Hi All!

:: waves ::

Rain delay.

It was a brutally long week, but it's Friday and I'm sitting on my bum ready for the game.

They just showed the fan who dropped the ball he caught (on Patriot's day, I think). First time I saw that--too funny.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:07 PM

Argh, I'll be missing the game...I just finally finished my paper, and I have a lot of things to do tonight...I'll miss everyone tonight!

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:10 PM

Congrats on finishing your paper. That always feels great. I'm *loooong* out of school, but I feel the same way when I get a project done (some projects are so big, just a deliverable is reason to celebrate).

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:12 PM

damn rain delay =(

so how was the chat last night? i was at the game, it was fun0 i just wish we won =(

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:16 PM

All of the Sox players looked so old in the 80's. they all look like their unathletic 60 yr olds..lol

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:16 PM

I missed the chat last night--spent five hours at my daughter's track meet.

I am soooooooo ready for some baseball.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:17 PM

its also weird to imagine what Fenway will look like 20 yrs from now. I mean look at how different it looks now than it it did in the 80's.

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:20 PM

What will be weird in 20 years is seeing the guys we love coming back as the old veterans. Just imagine Wake and Tek throwing out the first pitch in 20 years. My husband was just saying that the other day. "Just imagine Papelbon in 20 years!"

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:21 PM

Hi, long time reader, first time poster =P

The words "rain delay" always make me a little bit sad....

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:23 PM

Hi Mary!

Welcome!

Hopefully the rain delay won't take too long. It sounded like a lighter rain, but I haven't checked a weather site for radar or anything.

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:28 PM

Casey! He's just awesome. Funny story about his first all-star game and his jersey.

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:30 PM

Looks like another hour for the game. Too bad.

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:31 PM

Is that official or an estimation?

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:32 PM

d.o. just said they're hoping for 8:30 ...

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:33 PM

Don Orsillio just said they expect (hope?) to play at 8:30. NESN switched to tennis.

Yankees up 1-0 in the first.

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:34 PM

Well, Sweet and Lowdown is on one of the movie channels..... looks like I'll be watching that for a while... haha

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:42 PM

Hi all...

I didn't do my rain delay homework before I left the office at 7:05 (!), but am glad to hear that "it looks kinda promising." A "hoping for 8:30" start will give me time to feel human again after a long week of juggling medical charts and demanding physicians.

Welcome Mary! And jules, I'm giggling at the thought of Manny, Papi, Lowell, etc. as 50-somethings. And the current crop of young'ns as 40-somethings. Not that they won't all age well, mind you!

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:44 PM

My husband grew up a Sox fan (I married into my obsession ;-) and remembers all the old players. He was saying that some day, we'll see Wake and Schil come back like Buckner and Pesky do now and won't we feel old!

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:47 PM

I can only imagine what Beckett's going to look like in 40 years... the epitome of a cranky old man

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:55 PM

Mary, Beckett in 40 years is a scary thought!

Jules, I've recently been corresponding by one of my sorority sisters from college, who happens to be a Sox fan. We first met as freshmen way back in the fall of 1975. We were e-mailing back and forth, discussing some of the players, and when Papi and Lugo were mentioned, she said something to the effect of "I really feel OLD knowing that these two grown men were born during our first semester of college." Yep. Exactly.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 7:57 PM

Sorry, meant corresponding *with*...geez I hate making typos.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:07 PM

are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?

nope, still tennis. (makes me feel like i'm playing wii.)

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:19 PM

the latest reports at Fenway Park are that the game could start around 9 p.m

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:22 PM

Yeah, they were saying 9 a while ago.

Silly tennis :P

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:23 PM

I just looked at the animated radar loop on Intellicast and it appears that the area of rain is "training" from NW to SE over the Boston area. Not sure how long it will take to clear out of there.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:24 PM

9? I heard 8:30ish. ughh...lol

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:29 PM

if this games gets off the ground, i am going to be up way past my bedtime. eep.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:30 PM

game's rained out

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:31 PM

The latest announcement in the press box at Fenway Park has the Red Sox-Rays game starting at approximately 9:30 p.m

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:31 PM

From Extra Bases:

"The latest announcement in the press box at Fenway Park has the Red Sox-Rays game starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. Stay tuned."

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:31 PM

Aw, Ian beat me to it.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:34 PM

Ay yi yi...9:30? At least I don't have to get up early tomorrow, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm a night owl, but I'm so tired right now...don't know if I can make it to the end of the game. :-(

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:36 PM

And from the Herald:

"Curt Schilling said that his shoulder rehab is going so well that he could be starting a throwing program in a week to 10 days."

GO, SCHILL, GO.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:39 PM

The Schill things kinda funny, cus just last night i brought up they fact that we havent heard abt in in a really long time. and then i was watching the pre game show and they said "i know we havnt heard abt schilling in awhile, but..." lol.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:41 PM

I've got WRKO on Gameday Audio, and they just said that so far there's no word on "when or if" the game will be played. =/

They did say that more info may be forthcoming in 10 to 15 minutes, when the rain is possibly expected to let up.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:53 PM

Per WRKO, the grounds crew is out, beginning to lift the tarp, and the estimate is still for a 9:30-ish start.

[ Danielle ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:57 PM

Hey everyone!
Hope everyone had a great Friday. (Fingers crossed the local channel decides it will still put the "Rays" games when it finally starts!)

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:57 PM

they should just bang this game and play it later in the season

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 8:59 PM

This was just announced: Barring anymore rain, the Sox and Rays will attempt to begin tonight’s game at 9:30 p.m.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:07 PM

The rain's stopped and the tarp's off the field.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:08 PM

LOL, you should hear the caller on WRKO right now. He's ranting about the game delay and the children who will have to stay up late as a result and the people who will be drinking in the stands until too late in the evening blah blah blah woof woof woof...

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:10 PM

Why is drinking in the stands until late in the evening a bad thing, Mr. radio announcer guy?

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:13 PM

it's raining again

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:13 PM

It wasn't the announcer, it was the caller. The announcer was trying to defend it all against the ranting caller.

And the next caller was a woman who basically called the Sox a bunch of wimps because some Little League team played in the rain tonight. LOL!

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:15 PM

First pitch at 9:30. and whos anonymous?

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:16 PM

anonymous is anonymous

[ Texas Gal ] says:

[ Texas Gal ] says:

I still need to get to Shea before it's reduced to scrap rubble. Driving by it multiple times on the way to the airport doesn't count.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:21 PM

Come on Texy, you're taking the fun out of it.

I had a nice press release ready to go saying the game was canceled and would be made up a part of a day-night double header tomorrow.

But for real, tomorrow night if anyone is of unknown authorship or origin, it's not me. I'll be attending the nuptials of one of my best friends tomorrow night.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:23 PM

Celtics up by 1 at the half. and the Skanky team in NY is up 3-1 in the 7th

you were probably better off kristina. you really didn't miss much other than BJ's balk.

[ Texas Gal ] says:

If they ever did one of these "Down On The Farm" pieces on Kyle Jackson, I'd be as happy as a pig in shit.

Switch to NESN now, Ian.

Cmon, Clay!

Crawford's breathing clouds. Ugh.

It was SO COLD today in Boston. I was around UMass Boston today and it was frigid.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:37 PM

Saw a great post the other day dissecting Clay's pitching mechanics - pretty fascinating stuff.

MG: I insist it be a Phillies game, so you have to explain to everyone around your season tickets why you're friends with a Phils fan. :)

it is absolutely POURING here in western mass. (i'll try to keep it out here and away from boston.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:40 PM

Whew, thanks Jacoby!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:41 PM

Best Clay-vs-Joba piece I've ever seen was about mechanics. I hate that comparison (they're COMPLETELY different pitchers, style-wise) but this argument basically said Clay has near-perfect mechanics and Joba's scream injury! injury! injury!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:42 PM

Okay, Sox. HITS ARE GOOD. SO ARE RUNS. REMEMBER THAT.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:42 PM

Not too often you see KG get rejected on a dunk attempt.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 9:43 PM

Ian you do realize this is a Red Sox thread and not a Celtics thread.

[ Lindsay ] says:

yeah Moss...

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:00 PM

oh HELLS yes b-moss! also, TEK. nice work, boys.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:00 PM

Radio delay! Looking forward to the replay...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:00 PM

When will they learn, you can't run on Brandon Moss.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:02 PM

Refresh my memory, please...how did he come to be called Sunbeam?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:02 PM

The guy sitting behind me at Fenway on Wednesday was totally in love with Moss. It was funny. I said something about Drew and he just would not hear anything I said.

Wow, great catch by Bartlett.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:03 PM

I just can't bring myself to refer to him as "sunbeam" - mostly because it seems entirely too sweet, and he's very much a man's man.

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:03 PM

Has anyone else noticed that the center field camera seems to be in a slightly different position the last couple nights? It seems like it's maybe a little higher and angled down more. I'm definitely not imagining it, so I hope someone else is seeing it, too.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:03 PM

Yeah Mikey!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:03 PM

That was a great camera angle on the replay from behind of Mossy's throw.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:04 PM

My roommate knows my affection for Casey and Moss, so anytime either of them are shown on screen, she hollers, "WHO'S THAT?!?" She does not holler that at Beckett, however.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:04 PM

It's all in your head Erin.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:05 PM

Nope, Erin - it's definitely not just you. They moved the camera angle a few days ago. I saw a blog post somewhere about it- but for the life of me, can't remember where.

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:05 PM

Nah, Ian, I know my camera angles. It's been a little different.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:05 PM

b-moss apparently attempted to put a peanut butter sandwich into a toaster, thus: sunbeam (as dubbed by his minor league teammates).

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:06 PM

Thanks. I knew I was right. It's been driving me crazy. I want it to go back the way it was. This feels awkward.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:06 PM

I totally channeled Youk at my softball practice yesterday. I got nailed with a pitch in the elbow.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:06 PM

Erin if you tilt your TV screen a little, you get the camera angle back you're used to. :D

I don't like it either but at least they've gotten rid of the annoying sound effects

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:06 PM

jenny- I still can't hear that story without thinking, "RYAN STARTED THE FIRE!" (Office shoutout)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:08 PM

Ian, YES. The frigging "fshoom!" effect they had whenever a pitch over 95 MPH was thrown? SO glad they got rid of that.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:08 PM

I LIKED THE SHOOM-SHOOM!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:09 PM

Liza: were you completely bald, with a large goatee and sweating like a mofo all over your head? :)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:09 PM

It annoyed me. >.>

But they still do have the annoying "Call to the Bullpen" graphic. Still bugs me.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:10 PM

Ah, okay, now I remember the toaster story. For some reason I was thinking it had to do with the polite Southern boy thing that was very evident in the postgame the other night. I half expected him to say, "Well, bless your heart!" or some other Southernism.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:10 PM

c'mon, stickbug. BRING IT.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:10 PM

er, random question. Has anyone ever noticed that blondish guy that sits a little to the left of homeplate during just about every game?

..just wondering. :]

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:10 PM

The dang Hawks just won't go away. C's up 3 at the end of the 3rd.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:11 PM

TG, not quite. But I am the (backup) first base(wo)man.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:12 PM

well maybe if you were bald and had a goatee, you'd be the starting first base(wo)man

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:13 PM

blood and whiskey, yes. I always refer to him as "Robert Redford."

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:13 PM

I'll get right on that.

(Something makes me think the officials would doubt I was eligible for high school softball, though.)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:13 PM

I think it's safe to say that if she was bald and had a goatee, she'd be the starting first baseMAN.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:13 PM

Robert Redford, you say? I need to check him out, I think.

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:15 PM

Not nearly as attractive, but just an older man with blondish hair. When I was watching a game in standard definition, that's who he reminded me of.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:15 PM

Robert Redford, huh?
..I usually call him "Uncle Lauren."

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:15 PM

Clay, getting out of jams is only cool in the late innings. Just get outs now.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:15 PM

ruh roh stickbug. work it out, kiddo. work it out!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:16 PM

*he looks just like my, guess who, Uncle Lauren*

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:17 PM

Of course, with this new camera angle, the front row appears to be hidden behind the banner at the top of the screen, which makes it much more difficult (read: impossible) to see him.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:17 PM

any hot females in the stands for me to check out? ;)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:19 PM

Supposedly, the new camera angle is designed so you can see the paint on the corners better.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:19 PM

*Navarro

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:20 PM

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:21 PM

not sure how i feel about 52 pitches through 2 2/3 ... poorly, i think.

D:

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:22 PM

Orsillo just said that strikeout of Pena was the fourth, so I think someone's count is off somewhere.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:22 PM

BuKKKKKolz seems to be settling down.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:23 PM

What does Gameday say?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:23 PM

The box on Gameday is showing 4 Ks.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:23 PM

Gross didn't strike out. So its 4.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:24 PM

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:24 PM

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:24 PM

Ecl, which batters?

BuKKKKK(K)olz

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:24 PM

That goes for both the SO totals for the players and for Clay's stats.

Whoops make that 5.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:24 PM

NOW we've got bucKKKKK. eee. nice work out of both jams. ;D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:25 PM

Liza: Gomes x 2, and 1 each for Pena, Longoria and Navarro.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:25 PM

Gomes 2x, Navarro, Longoria, Pena

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:25 PM

Wait, what'd Gross do then?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:26 PM

LOL Ian! We're both right on it, aren't we?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:26 PM

Gameday has Gross flying out.

[ kristina ] says:

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:30 PM

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:31 PM

Pleats with the ribbie!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:32 PM

YES, Pleats, beautiful!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:32 PM

now that's a slumpbuster right there.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:32 PM

yeah pleats!!!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:32 PM

It's really nice to say that.

[ jenny again ] says:

ATTA BOY SMUG LITTLE BASTARD!!! ;D ;D ;D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:32 PM

YEAH! THAT'S what I'm talkin' about, people!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:34 PM

Is it just me or did Don just say that Manny is the Rays' worst month?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:35 PM

Manny Ramirez can't hit in the clutch

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:35 PM

hey everyone

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:35 PM

mmmm, i smell a two-out rally ...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:36 PM

Manny, I wore your shirt to work today......

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:36 PM

No he said May

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:36 PM

come on Manny

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:36 PM

I know, but it sure sounded like Manny.

Oh, what are you swinging at?

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:37 PM

Let's go for 497

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:38 PM

This game is getting away from the Celtics

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:38 PM

What ARE you swinging at?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:38 PM

Be patient, Manny....

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:38 PM

Ok I have to say it's messing me up listening to FL telecasts and not NESN

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:39 PM

Di, are you on delay like me?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:39 PM

and they're gonna have to do it without Paul Pierce who fouled out with 4 minutes left in the game.

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:40 PM

ecl, I don't know if I'm on delay. I live in FL and I can;t watch NESN if satellite is broadcasting the game on a FL channel

[ Erin ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:40 PM

Hey everyone. I thought I would miss tonights game because I had to see a play, but I was happy to see that the game was still going on when I got home.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:40 PM

How about some of that piney magic: Hawks always come through in the clutch.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:41 PM

I don't trust the Celtics in the clutch....

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:41 PM

Brandon Sunbeam wins the world (aka my heart).

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:41 PM

Ah, you're actually watching, okay. I'm in NC and don't get much Sox on my cable. Next Monday is the first time in three weeks (can't wait!). So I rely on Gameday.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:42 PM

Moss appears pretty darned impressive so far!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:42 PM

be economical, stickbug. we need you!

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:43 PM

Well I purchased extra innings from direct tv. It's the only way I can get NESN but as I said if a game is being broadcast in FL I can only watch the FL station and NESN is blocked

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:43 PM

bucKKKKKK! nnnnnnnnnnnnngh. CURVEBALL.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:43 PM

After three decades of keeping mum, Barbara Walters is disclosing a past affair with married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, whom she remembers as "exciting" and "brilliant."

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:44 PM

lol, Ian where did that come from?

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:44 PM

(this is all my girlfriend's fault. CURVEBALLS DID NOT USED TO MAKE ME SWOONY.)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:45 PM

I'm always finding random stuff like that during the game. Trying to keep the peeps up on their current events.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:45 PM

sheesh, bucKKKKKK. 70 pitches already? sigh.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:46 PM

All I know on the trivia is Eric Hinske.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:46 PM

Clay's curveball is sexy.

Nice inning for Clay there, too.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:47 PM

It appears the guessing game has finally been put to rest, as Access Hollywood has confirmed Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are married.

Celtics down 5 with a minute to go.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:47 PM

Ian, that was on the news a couple of days ago, I think. You're SO far behind. ;-)

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:48 PM

wait, what? married?

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:48 PM

Yes, his curveball is super sexy.
As is his change up :P

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:48 PM

I feel like I've been living in a cave

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:50 PM

You go Mariah -- let's hear it for older women & younger men. :-D (my favorite combination)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:50 PM

Same, TG. Per Wiki, Ben Grieve, Ozzie Guillen, and Jose Canseco are the others.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:51 PM

THey're married?! I didn't even know they were dating in the first place. Also older women and younger men -- that's my parents! :)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:51 PM

Haha, Brandon's dancing.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:51 PM

You too can own the Dwight Schrute/Andy Bernard Xterra from the Office episode last night.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:52 PM

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:52 PM

Jenny stole my line

[ kristina ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:53 PM

YEAH MOSS......he's bidding for some sports center time tonight!

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:53 PM

Seeing Jed's MASSIVE GRIN afterwards

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:54 PM

[ jenny again ] says:

Oooohh, I am liking this!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:54 PM

Sportscenter will be over by the time this game gets done.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:55 PM

Is Papelbon wearing four coats under there or what? He looks like the Michelin Man.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:55 PM

I like Paps' coat.
(grammar? whatevs.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:55 PM

BABYSOX. happysigh.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:56 PM

He's got at least 4 or 5 coats on. He'll probably be sweating when he makes his jog at the end of the inning.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:56 PM

Re the Celts...where is Reggie Miller when you need him?

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:57 PM

Ok you guys are making me really jealous that I can't watch NESN and see Paps in his 4 coats

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 10:57 PM

Yeah, Lugie

[ ecl1958 ] says:

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Where was Crawford aiming for on that tthrow.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:03 PM

That hit was so SCRAPPY.

[ Liza ] says:

on May 2, 2008 11:06 PM

And with that hit, Papi has gone above the Mendoza line!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:06 PM

The roar that we hear when we place a seashell next to our ear is not the ocean, but rather the sound of blood surging through the veins in the ear. Any cup-shaped object placed over the ear produces the same effect.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:06 PM

EPIC HERO TIME THIS INNING. two-out rally wins at life.

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:06 PM

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:08 PM

Oh well. The multiple-vowels thing worked for a while. (I guess y wasn't being vowely there.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:13 PM

I bet all those radio callers who were committing verbal bitch slaps over the 2-1/2 hour rain delay are eating their words now.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:14 PM

Ohh, I'm good.

"It's tough to forget Hinske, he's here tonight."
Oh, Remy...

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:16 PM

how much longer do you thing buchholz has?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:16 PM

Crawford needs to not ever hit against Clay ever again.

(He sure can hit against, you know, other teams' pitchers, though...)

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:16 PM

oops I meant *think

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:17 PM

My guess is Clay is done after this inning. High pitch count and it makes him eligible for the win.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:17 PM

c'mon sticKKKKKKbug!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:17 PM

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:22 PM

Offense is SO nice.

[ Mary ] says:

I hear a lawnmower too.....
I kept thinking it was my phone on vibe

[ jenny again ] says:

>:D

[ jules ] says:

LOL, a neighbor is mowing their yard. I have my rear door open for some fresh air. I mean, that's what Saturday mornings are for!

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:24 PM

I legit hear a humming like a lawnmower coming from somewhere.....

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:24 PM

The 9:37 train from NY should be rumbling by any second now.

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:25 PM

pitching change! and hubby is dishing up some ice cream. I'm soooo going to the gym tomorrow.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:26 PM

...my phone should've rang three hours ago. (A friend was at Yankee Stadium tonight and she was going to call from her cell, haha)

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:27 PM

Ian I have a random fact for you:

If an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:27 PM

Moss is just adorable...he's full of smiles and "just happy to be here!"

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:28 PM

Who is going to be the first to die off here tonight. And by die off I mean go to bed. It won't be Jules since she's on the left coast.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:28 PM

Di i have a better elephant one for you. The elephant is the only animal with 4 knees.

[ Mary ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:28 PM

I think I might be the first to go..... I've been sick all week :(

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:28 PM

have I mentioned that last year, when I was at the Pats-Steelers game, we were in the Pats gift shop and there were player shirts everywhere and this teenage son and his dad were looking at Brady and Moss shirts, and the dad went "Brandon Moss?"" and the son just shook his head. now whenever I see Randy Moss I like to say "Brandon Moss!"

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:28 PM

it won't be me. I'm a night owl

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:30 PM

here's another one:

It is considered an offense to shower naked.

I just love stupid laws in FL

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:30 PM

I think I'll be awake till the end...I just got here and missed all the action already! and I don't have to work tomorrow.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:30 PM

Sickness is an acceptable excuse. Having to work at 6am is another. Other than that, grab a Red Bull and suck it up :D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:30 PM

I'm a night owl but currently a very tired one. I'm still hanging in there, though. Hopefully I can go the distance.

I was doing a kitchen chore during all the excitement at the plate. Nice work, guys!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:32 PM

I'm a total night owl. I could have a 3AM-to-noon sleep schedule and be completely content.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:32 PM

The stupidest laws in Florida at least when i was there was the times you could buy beer to.

I went to school in Polk County where you could buy beer until 2 am. But you could go to Hillsborough County and buy beer until 4 am.

Although that's still better than CT. here you can only get alcohol til 9 oclock and you can't buy it on Sundays.

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:33 PM

I live around Orlando and they limit the time you can buy alcohol as well. I think it's 1am

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:34 PM

Liza you're pitch count from earlier was a little off. He's at 92 or 93 now

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:35 PM

Ian -- 9:00? In stores, or do bars close at 9:00?

Liza: I do the 3:00 to noon thing on the weekends sometimes. And then pay through the nose for it on Monday mornings.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:35 PM

It worked out nice though. We'd leave the bar at 1:45 AM to go CircleK to get some beer for the after party in the dorm.

Or if we were going to Clearwater we'd stop once we got in Hillsborough county to get beer.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:35 PM

a little sleepy over here....but will make it to the end...saturdays are good days for sleep!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:35 PM

Ugh. Lemme recount.

Yeah, 93 now--I guess 12+12=34 in my mind or something.

Nice, Jacoby.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:36 PM

96? What?

D: I fail.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:36 PM

ecl stores.

bars are open until 1 AM Sunday to Thursday and until 2 Am on Friday and Saturday.

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:36 PM

so Clay will be 2-2 now?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:37 PM

Di i loved the nightlife in Orlando. It was always a fun time.

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:38 PM

It is nice having the games on earlier. I get home from work around 3:30, so it's perfect.

CA shuts down all alcohol at 2am. Not that I know personally since I'm never out that late.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:38 PM

Ian, the bar times sound pretty normal. Do they actually stop selling beer in convenience stores and groceries at 9:00 up there?

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:38 PM

I unfortunately don't know. Ever since I moved back down here I haven't gone to clubs. I plan to change that soon

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:39 PM

I'm a night owl as well by nature - but I've gotten out of practice this month. If I let my natural body clock do what it wanted, I'd get up at 11am and go to bed at 4 or 5am.

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:39 PM

ecl,

yes and yes. Liquor stores close "early" and grocery stores don't carry that much of a variety of alcohol except wine.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:40 PM

having gotten up at 6:30 this morning and having come down with some sort of horrible cold today, i may do some couch-sleeping in front of the game here. ;D

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:40 PM

i'd be a night owl if left up to my own devices, but I get up at 3:45 to workout (most mornings) and get to work at 6. I've been working 9-10 hours a day, so getting to the gym has been tough.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:41 PM

Yup ecl they do. It used to be 8:00 PM until a year or so ago.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:41 PM

Jenny, I get that. I've had the worst allergies all week and woke up way early this morning. Not feeling so hot now. =/

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:42 PM

Are the liquor stores in New Hampshire run by the state? We were there last summer that's how it looked.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:42 PM

Jenny sickness is an ok reason to bow out early.

Thank god for the rain lately to get rid of some of hte pollen.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:42 PM

Hey I've got an alcohol story for y'all. Down here there are a lot of dry counties or dry towns, but sometimes restaurants will let you "brown bag" your own stuff if you want to have a drink with dinner. One time during my gigging days, my band did just that. As soon as the waitress saw us pull the beer out of the bag, she moved us from the main room of the restaurant into a windowless back room, because in that particular NC county, it's illegal to be seen drinking in a public venue by cars driving by on the highway. I was like, WTF?

Of note, this was the same county where, when we played an outdoor gig at a street fair on a very hot summer day, I was told by the guy who hired us that I needed to put something on over the (very modest) tank top that I was wearing that day. It was "not appropriate" for street wear in that town. Fortunately, I have a habit of bringing layers with me, having lived up North for the first 30 years of my life. So I threw on a T-shirt over the tank top. @@

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:43 PM

you get up at 3:45???? I just can't imagine doing that. nevermind having the discipline to work out at that hour.

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:43 PM

jenny & Mary, I hope you feel better!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:44 PM

North Carolina is weird like that. I enjoy my visits to NC though.

I was there last summer at Ocean Isle. I have relatives in Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham, Chapel Hill, Southern Pines.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:45 PM

That is a seriously fancy sign. I'm jealous of the glitter.

Also: PEOPLE WHO HAVE SOX TICKETS- WAKE UP! You are killing those of us who aren't as lucky.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:45 PM

yeah jules, they are, but you can grab beer and wine at the grocery and convienient store....(no, I can't spell).....I do love that our biggest liqor store is right off the highway....good ole NH

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:46 PM

Texy they must have gotten a hold of Big Papi's BEDAZZLER

[ jules ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:46 PM

I do and I don't like it, but ya do what ya gotta do. The main reason I work so early (I can pick whatever hours I want) is so I can pick up my daughter right after school. I love spending the time with her after school to help with homework and hear about the drama.

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:46 PM

Longoria you stupid fuck. you'll never get rookie of the year!

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:47 PM

come on jacoby!!!!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:47 PM

When I went to New Hampshire for work, I'd always stop and pick something up.. it was cheaper and no tax.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:47 PM

The pollen down here has been horrendous. I'm asthmatic and have needed my "rescue inhaler" just about every day despite taking all my other stuff plus OTC meds. Can you guys send some of that rain my way?

Ian, that is just plain bizarre about the liquor and wine and beer sales, at least for a state in a not so conservative area. I mean, our liquor stores stay open until 8 or 9 here, but the grocery stores have an incredible selection of beer AND wine...and beer sales, IIRC, are until well past midnight. I don't hardly drink anymore, but I think the biggest restriction is no beer sales until noon on Sundays.

[ Di ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:48 PM

I used to stop there on my way to Bangor from Boston.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:48 PM

Yeah, two on, none out. I'm lovin' this!

[ jules ] says:

ecl...funny stories!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 2, 2008 11:49 PM

I can see the Sunday thing since almost everyone in North Carolina goes tto church there.

Speaking of that, when my grandmother passed away 5 or 6 years ago in NC, when we were driving in the funeral procession, everyone pulled off the road to let us through. I thought that was the coolest thing ever.
