Coco was supposed to be in center, drew in right, manny in left. but papi had some tightness in his knee, so they put manny as DH, jacoby in left, coco in center and drew in right.
Also, incase any of you missed Titos post game press conference or the pre-game show-- Brandon Moss had to go to Mass General Hospital last night to get his apendix removed. =(
I was seriously wondering what health insurance the players have, how it's negotiated....Glad to hear all is well with Brandon. That was certainly a surprise.
I can now say I have something in common with Brandon. I had my appendix removed in second grade. It was an interesting experience. Not very fun, though...
The bottom ticker on the screen notes that Moss is out indefinitely. That sounds ominous. Hope it's just a poor word choice. He was making great contributions in the Bigs.
Ian, you're probably right about the HMO. I remember the first time I took a call at a job from an HMO person who "recommended that Mrs. ______ have two days of hospitalization" for her admission. I was like WTF is this person talking about -- how can you tell the docs how long a patient should be admitted?
'Indefinitely' in this case should only mean a couple of weeks. He's getting out of the hospital today already...he's recovering even faster than I did!
Should we play the 'how do the Sox fill in the outfield' game? I've heard rumors about picking up recently DFA'd Wilkerson, but Chris Carter isn't a bad option, either...
Wait, i may sound stupid, but indefinately means unclear, correct? so are they saying that they arent sure if he will ever come back? or they're not sure when he will be coming back?
(is watching the PawSox game) Thurston's in the lineup, Carter isn't. Hmmm. But I'm also getting my first good look at Sean Danielson today, and that's exciting!
Lindsay, I think it means they don't know WHEN he's coming back, and they want to give him as much time as he needs. I don't think an appendectomy is a career-ending injury.
Nothing like Mother Nature's carwash! And the entire state of NC will gladly trade with you guys. We've been in an "extreme drought" for many months. Of course, we could do without daytime temps in the 40s at this time of year.
Does he really? I hadn't noticed -- just the batting glove fidgeting and the glaring. The game is on TV tomorrow night for me, so I'll make sure to check out the muttering. LOL...
Aw, man, those fouls into the on-deck circle. Bad news. I saw the one that wrecked Encarnacion's eye (Cardinals) last season. It was painful just to watch.
Hey all! I am in severe trouble today as our lovely work system won't let me into game day, so no glimpse of red sox action for me today! Crappus Maximus.
Anyway, can someone let me know what the store is please? :)
I've always wanted to watch a game with Japanese audio! I've seen clips of games with Japanese audio, and it's just the BEST. I love the way they pitch their voices. It's just so much better than the way we pitch ours over here... (I also know a lot of Japanese baseball terms, so I might actually be able to follow along now!)
Just keep reading, Bethie, you'll know what's going on!
Steph, I don't know much about Japanese. Do you mean that vocal inflection is very important? I think I've heard that about the languages in that part of the world in general...
Vocal inflection's really important - if you say some words with different inflections, they become completely different things. For example, the word 'hana' can be either 'flower' or 'nose' depending on how it's pronounced...
Steph, I remember my dad talking about the same thing being true in Chinese (he was over there in WWII). He still recalled a few words that he had learned there, and when he said "very good" he made a happy face and a happy sound, and when he said "not so good" or "bad" he frowned and sounded frowny as well, because to say those words without the facial expressions and inflections would change the meaning entirely.
It's interesting they've chosen to put someone so young in that role - part of the reason the Tina and Hazel Mae interviews always seem to work so well is that they're slightly older than most of the players they're talking to.
Yeah, that's how it works - a lot of it is in how you say it (the facial expressions definitely help, especially if you accidentally say the wrong thing!).
Much as people say that English is such a difficult language to learn, it sounds like the Asian languages must be even more so, because of the inflection/facial expression factor. And then there's the written form. Yikes.
Don cracked me up last night, admitting he travels with his own pillow, one from Japan. I guess if i traveled as much as they all did, I might have my own pillow, too.
Have the NESN announcers updated the viewing audience about the Celtics game the way they always did about the Bruins game? Maybe it's just because the B's were on NESN as well, but they are a fellow Boston team and I'm sure there are people watching the Sox who care about the score of the Celtics. Just something I found interesting.
I saw the wave at a sumo wrestling tournament once. Actually, my brother and I were joking about starting a wave, and we made the hand motions and the people behind us took it seriously and sent it all the way around the arena...
My kid brother and I didn't, that's for sure! But we were in Madison Square Garden, so I guess it makes more sense...he and I were kidding, too! I think the people behind us might've had something to drink...
Steph, in the future I will have to make a tag that says "I am obsessed with Manny." I've been sitting here pathetically searching the Internet for a few more pics of him.
...in addition, that would also be enough to prompt the Sox to bring up Chris Carter or Joe Thurston to fill the roster spot Brandon's appendix has given us...
Not in a situation like this, no - they need Coco's legs out there...although this reveals our lack of outfield depth again. If something more severe happened to Coco...
Liza, my best galpal is like that too. Kinda puts a damper on things when we hang out together, because I feel like I can't really talk about something I truly love.
My entire family is obsessed with baseball, which is all good. I'm the freakish one who follows the game down to the college level, though, but my mom and I like to watch the Little League World Series together...
I think I'm the only one in the immediate family who is REALLY into sports, with the exception of my 6-year-old nephew, who actually plays about 4 sports already and is good at all of them. Other than that, my sis and brother in law watch some sports but aren't that into it. And Mom couldn't be bothered.
Liza -- luckily most of my big stuff is over and done with. I just gotta rewrite a paper that I wrote by hand because I was in a rush and it was the day my group for my TV Production class was going so I just whipped it up in like 10 minutes flat by hand. I also have to look over the essay questions for my Ad Lit final and write down notes and little bits and pieces of info to keep in mind. That's really all.
As glad as I am that the summer is approaching, at the same time I'm kinda bummed this semester is over. I made a lot of friends in my classes and I had fun in my classes for once.
What's so weird to me about my mom's disdain for sports (specifically baseball) is that she was into it when she was a kid in Brooklyn. She told me that she lost interest when the Dodgers left town. You'd think that if she liked it as much as she thought, she would have just followed another team.
Piney, you're lucky. I've got to cut down a 15-page paper into a few pages of bullet points and put it all on a poster, then write up notes for a presentation. I hate presentations.
Okay all, enjoy the postgame chatter. I have a TON of things to do so am outta heah. Will stop through tomorrow night but will mostly be glued to the game on ESPN. Ciao y'all! (LOL)
That's my aim ecl. I'm gonna try my damndest to keep in touch with them.
As for my family and baseball -- my dad is more of a hockey fan than anything else. He grew up when Bobby Orr was ruling the roost in Boston so I can understand why there. He likes baseball, but he's not as into it. The real baseball fan in my family is my older brother. He's actually the one who got me into it. You see, he used to always try and quiz me about baseball related things as a kid and whenever I'd get something wrong, I'd look it up for myself or ask him. And it kinda just stemmed from a bit of a sibling rivalry. Though I never associated myself with a team(despite a brief phase of being a Rockies fan when I was 10) until 1999 which was all because of Pedro Martinez. My older sister and my mom are so-so fans. They'll watch and listen and my mom does love the game. My older sister doesn't get what the big deal is about it. So that kind of sucks.
Because he's just every kind of wonderful and is going for his MASTER'S DEGREE. I don't know of any other ballplayers with Master's Degrees! (That's how I am any time I live-blog for Jed - my Arizona Fall League ones and my PawSox ones are pathetic.)
My entire family loves the game - I just went along for the ride! (I found the Sox in the summer of '04 because I was writing a story and the main character was Bostonian, so I did my homework and got emotionally invested.)

Sorry the thread was late - today's been kinda hectic.
