Tito's juggling his outfielders dealing with a difficult situation, showing what a deft baseball and people manager he is - although he's been 'helped' in this regard by illnesses and injuries.
Hiya! Glad to be here, better late than never. Just walked in the door from voting (I have NEVER seen that many people show up for a primary!). Time to change out of my work clothes, throw supper together...and enjoy the game.
Lindsay, the issue isn't whether Coco wants to leave, it's whether a good deal for a trade presents itself. Of course they do have to wait until they get the rest of their potential bench back.
but i dont understand the last part? wearing a jersey for 70 hours is a record? that seems pretty easy to do...and how does he have the new record if this little boy wore it for 1561 days? Hmm, a typo maybe?
Jacoby's 0-for-5 didn't factor into Tito's decision at all today.
If you've paid attention when Coco is healthy, he starts against left-handed pitchers. And if you're paying attention, Nate Robertson throws the ball with his left hand.
definitely check out mike's book - it's called "deep drive" and he wrote it w/ rob bradford of the herald (who is awesomesauce). beckett's forward is all awkward and heartfelt and book-report-y. ;D totally worth the $23.95 (says the bookseller).
mhc, good to know I'm not alone. This class is a 300 level class and thankfully that means the paper only has to be 12-15 pgs. Thank God because I have 3 more papers to write by Friday. Congrats on your last final. I can't wait for mine.
don't get me wrong i LOVE ells, but i love how secure i feel with coco in center. like, 'oh they hit a flyball no worries coco will go snatch it no matter what.' i'm sure i'll get there with ells, but he IS only a rookie. ;D
So who is bringing what to mhc's e-party? I'll bring eggplant parmigiana if you like...or lasagna...or if that's too elaborate I'll bring oodles of Reese's peanut butter cups and Hershey's dark chocolate kisses! :-)
And I feel for those of you who are writing papers. I can't even imagine that anymore. I would probably end up with a great big FAIL macro if I was asked to write one.
I'm looking at pictures of the Sox, and look at this pic description, its kinda funny...lol
BOSTON - APRIL 12: Jacoby Ellsbury #46 of the Boston Red Sox heads to third on a hit by Jacoby Ellsbury in the sixth inning against the New York Yankees on April 12, 2008 at Fenway Park in Boston,Massachusetts.
Ok I just have to vent for a second. I've been at the library since 11am and I have more writing to do. I feel like I'm never going to finish. Somebody put me out of my misery...please
Hey Lindsay- I think I know what that article about the little boy's record or whatever. The boy holds the record for wearing the same shirt the most days in a row, but that other guy (that wore a shirt for 77 hours) was without taking it off or washing it. Obviously the kid washed his shirt...
Mike Lowell has an iPod in his locker place and it looks EXACTLY like mine. The case and how we wrap the headphones around and stuff. The weird thing is that I can't find my iPod anywhere.
mikey stole choco's ipod =P.....don't worry Di, it feels like it will never end, but it eventually all gets done...i've been there more then enough....relax, it'll be over soon
LOL, choco -- don't worry, I know that phrase! Mmmmm, don't even get me started on the death of free speech. You missed going to school in the good old days. Nobody would have batted an eyelash over that.
mhc -- you beat me to it on the A-Rod story. Hilarious!
Di, if it makes you feel better, I'm all cheerful tonight, but I also have to face the fact that I have years of post-bac sciences + med school (hopefully) + residency.
Just remember that by being in college and heading to grad school you are already several steps ahead of the curve. You're doing fine just as you are.
If you think undergrad is bad, law school is even worse. I have nightmares that I'm back in law school and am about to graduate but I haven't written that last huge paper yet.
thanks mhc. My bro is going to med school and I know he has a longer road ahead of him than I do. I just need to relax a bit. I was getting overwhelmed.
I'm looking at a couple years of post-bac sciences and then 3 years of physical therapy grad school, but to tell you the truth, I'm looking forward to it. The job I have now, where I stare at the computer all day, is driving me nuts.
But in an ideal world I'm actually interested in hospital medicine-- maybe geriatrics if I'm feeling like a little more time in fellowship. But as it is, hospitalist for me. It's who I work for right now, all my mentors are hospitalists and I love the systems and quality research that they do. Teaching too, lots of patient care, INCREDIBLY high demand.
From time to time I ponder anesthesiology too. I'm leaving my mind open at this point.
Sometimes I feel like the Yanks pushed them so hard because they wanted to be like WE HAVE FUTURE ACES TOO! when in fact their prospects are damn good, but ours are brilliant right now.
lol, well at least you can say you went thru law school and actually finished. My plan is to go into entertainment law. Dream job: working for the Red Sox and drawing up the contracts for the players. A girl can dream right?
mhc: Hospitalist = good choice. Our residents (family medicine) do a lot of rotations with them. I like geriatrics even better. There will be a huge demand for them as time goes on. And a fellowship in it is only a year, at least where I work. All I know about anesthesiology is that it pays extremely well.
Ellen: You're not alone -- I have a masters in vocal music education and now enter stuff into the medical records at a residency program.
Hi, I love this blog and I don't normally post during games, but this has been bugging me. Has anyone else noticed that it looks like Dustin Pedroia went all Kevin Youkilis and shaved his head? It really looks like he did and my roommate and I have been trying to figure it out. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Maybe I am just crazy.
Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I just never noticed his head shaved before. My roommate is in love with Pedroia, so I have been watching him more closely now. As for me, I am a Lowell gal.
Ellen - I'm way out west in Asheville. I work for a residency program that is affiliated with UNC Chapel Hill, but we draw residents from all over the country. I'm in the family med division, but we also have ob/gyn and dental, as well as fellowships in geriatrics and sports medicine, and plans are currently in the works to have a rural track branch of the UNC-CH School of Medicine for 3rd and 4th year students.
Cool! I've heard great things about Asheville and how artsy it is. My sis is a hem/onc and went to duke and did her res there and now she's at dana farber.
Ellen: AVL is artsy, but in many ways it's a mixed bag. It's a "blue" island in a red area, and the locals have a lot of issues with the newcomers, and there's a HUGE amount of development that is a) crowding the infrastructure and b) ruining the lovely scenery.
mch: I'm losing track -- what did you specialize in prior to your MPH? Are you currently working in general/primary? I'd say that's the best path to hospitalist!
Ellen: Hem/onc = angels walking among us. I have so much respect for them.
Those heme-onc MDs are INSANELY smart. I spent a day with a few of them on their stem cell/bone marrow transplant patients on the wards. Amazing people, really amazing.
I have never met any of the Sox, but oh my lord I have a million and a half connections to them.
Also, my mom's boyfriend was drafted in 1965 by them and pitched one game at Fenway. He met Yaz and all the other 1967 guys. I think that's the most impressive connection.
its the Prudential building, in the middle of Boston.
Let me know when it is so I can change my commute around the crowd.
Honestly, I've never really wanted to go so far as to meet them. No, I mean, I'd love to, but I just can't bring myself to. I'd feel so weird about it.
Plus my Boston cynical soul would be like... this is SOOOO fake, they're on autopilot.
I know that's cranky and everything, I don't look down on people who do go out to meet them, but I can't be the only one who feels this way.
I've got an image in my mind of their awesomeness and I wouldn't want it to be shattered by meeting anyone in person in case that person turns out to be a jerk.
if they've told you stories about Beckett then don't tell me. I have my perception of him and I want to keep that way...unless he's even better than what i thought
mhc and Ellen: I see where you're coming from too, although I think it would be fun to meet some of them in a more relaxed, less "autopilot" setting. Say, maybe lunch w/Papi and Manny. I can see that being a blast, although maybe the former waiters would beg to differ.
I have adopted and am trying to stick to a policy of only believing what is publicly substantiated or what I see and hear for myself. Lord knows, out of context (or maybe even in context) some of my behavior would make me look like a world-class asshat.

Why is Crsip leading off?! I demand Jacoby back!
