Hey all...just checking in. The game is on TV here again, so I'll be in the other room for the most part, but will probably pop back in here and there...
jenny, Pleats autograph on your jersey is so cool. I'd love Paps' autograph on mine. I hear they sign more readily for kids, I'll send my daughter out with my jersey ;-)
Sorry for the double post.
Sorry for the double post.
LOL...the only trouble, jules, is that there's no guarantee I'll get to see 500 as it happens. C'est la vie. I knew 498 was gone as soon as it left his bat. Pretty, pretty, pretty HR, Manny!
a nice lady at the airport this afternoon saw me wearing my blue beckett t and came over to tell me that she'd just seen josh beckett - and had him sign an autograph for her 87-year-old aunt, which she showed me - and that he was with another ballplayer she didn't recognize. we pieced together that it was lester flying to baltimore with beckett, ten gates away from where i was flying home. i did not have a chance to go see beckett (my flight was boarding when i learned of his being there) but it was so awesome to hear he was there - with lester - and the nice lady's husband wanted me to know that they were both wearing cowboy boots. man, i love stuff like that. eee. ;D
So Ian, if your prediction is correct, I'll get to see #500. The Saturday and Sunday games are on TV here. I'm also planning to watch the Mets/NYY Sunday night. Overload? Naaaaah. BTW, Bethie and I are NOT having good weather down here. Cold and very windy. In the 40s last night, too cold for May in NC.
I must say, of the ESPN announcers, I don't mind Orel Hershiser for some reason.
Our weather has been bizarre down here the past few weeks. I got to see the remnants of a tornado wall cloud pass by my house yesterday. Followed about 15 minutes later by hail. The 4th day of that we have had in 3 weeks. Weird.
I think Mother Nature is having a killer mood swing in the South.
Bethie, you got that right about summers down here. I'm heat intolerant due to having MS. The ONLY reason I'm able to live here is because the mountains are just a tad cooler than everywhere else. Still, it's pretty unbearable during high summer. There's a part of me that wants to move back up north because one can always add layers when it's cold. When it's hot, there's not much to be done about it.
BTW, Ian. Thanks for posting the Tito/Ortiz video from last nigh on your sitet. I had missed it. Totally worth locking up my piece of crap computer to see it! :)
Hey, everybody!
I just got in from National Honors Society inductions. It was pretty boring (and I would have rather been watching the game), but I guess it'll look good on college apps and stuff.
then, beneath the picture of the batter there, you can go to pitch-by-pitch, play-by-play, or scoring plays. Go to scoring plays and you can see video and stuff.
1st inning: Coco got a double and scored by a single from Ortiz. Then Manny hit a home run. That's ours, and I forget how they got theirs.
I hope the Celtics win! Though I've been told I'm not allowed to follow them, because everytime I start following a team, they make it to the playoffs and then fail (see for reference: 2003 Red Sox, 2007 Patriots, 2007 Bruins). I'll start following them next year...
HIMYM, The Office, and Top Chef are seriously the only three shows I watch on a consistent basis. And good to know, but don't gimme spoilers yet, it's being DVR'd and I'm gonna watch it soon.
Also, I'm not too concerned about the Red Sox....I got a feeling they could win this even if they're down by 4
Yay, video! Thanks, TG!
(By the way, I sent you an e-mail last week, and I was wondering if you got it...I don't remember if I put a subject or not, so it might have gone to your spam folder...)
Oo yeah, 30 Rock! That's one I've been slowly getting into.
I'm not too sold on much TV these days. Hell with How I Met Your Mother, it took me a little bit to get into it(It didn't really pick up until like halfway into the first season) and most other actual sitcoms are just godawful or used to be good but are in their final seasons and suck(Scrubs, anybody?)
Casey at bat is so funny. I saw him at Pawtucket and whenever he was up I started laughing hysterically. I was with a girl who didn't know (or really care) about baseball and she's like "what's your problem?" and I'm like "dude, look at Sean Casey! I love him..."
(For the record, the only reason I went with a girl who didn't even care about baseball is because we got AWESOME free tickets and my mom was taking my sister horseback riding, my dad had to work, my neighbor was celebrating his anniversary, so we asked some family friends, so the 22 year old guy was taking me along with his girlfriend, and so he took his younger sister that's my age.)
Jolie, I've been a JD supporter, although I can't say I've always liked his performance (and neither did he). And I just caught the tail end of Youk/Manny but I think the video will be coming to a blog near you soon.
I... don't watch any TV except baseball. I'm a cool person like that.
Choco, do you ride horses too? (I'm not being creepy, you don't have to answer if you don't want--I ride, and if you do too, then I think we really are the same person.)
Jolie- I've loved J.D. for quite a while! Even when he was struggling.
By the way- does anyone know what his son had? I thought I heard some kind of hip problem... (I was born with some hip problem but the doctor caught it and fixed it so it's pretty normal now. I have some limitations as to sitting positions and my running is slow, but other than that it's fantabulous)
Yeah as much as they lost their luster, I still think Scrubs should at least get a proper sendoff. I think they're moving to ABC for their final season just so they can do that last season over and end it on a good note. They were gonna end this year but due to teh writer's strike, they got a little screwed over. Though I probably won't watch the episodes leading up to the last one, but I'll watch the last one. I'm weird like that.
Liza-- I don't think that question is creepy. Anyways, I used to ride in the 6th-8th grade (actually, it was with the friend that I went to the Paw Sox game with) but then I started playing softball and I started choosing sleeping over waking up early to go riding and stuff. My sister is the real horse person, but sometimes I go to the barn and ride a little.
And do you like Carlos Gomez? I really love him. Just throwing this out there- he's adorable. And go figure he's a centerfielder. I love Mauer, too.
Better safe than sorry. And that's awesome--I've been taking lessons for almost four years and I totally love it. Of course, my teacher's at college now so I haven't actually been taking lessons this winter, but I still ride when I can and love love love it when I can.
And fc, don't forget, his wife was pregnant throughout the entire season. She had the kid (a girl) literally a few days after JD got home from the victory parade in Boston.
Choco, YES to the Carlos Gomez question!
The only part about him I don't like, aside from him not playing for the Sox, is that he has the same last name as Scott Gomez (Scotty used to play for the NJ Devils, but then he went to the Rangers).
CLEVELAND'S ASDRUBAL CABRERA RECORDED AN UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN THE TOP OF THE FIFTH INNING against the blue jays. IT WAS THE 14TH UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN MAJOR LEAGUE HISTORY.
I have that up on my blog somewhere Choco and I'm too lazy to look up what posts it is in. I'm sure it's up on NESN's site though since they revamped it.
I didn't realize Drew was so religious; he cried during Passion of the Christ:
"The film moved Drew in ways he'd never felt. There, on the big screen, was the man to whom he had devoted his life; a man who suffered and suffered, then finally fulfilled his destiny. Besides causing tears to stream down Drew's cheeks, it gave him a new perspective.
"I've had my trials and tribulations," he says. "But whatever happens, in the end I'm just a baseball player. I'm not the savior. I'm not special. I'm just human. I can only be me.""
like i said NJ, I'm too lazy to go look. I can only multitask so much. I'm working on my softball site, watching the Red Sox and the Celtics plus watching the Indians/blue jays game.
di - yeah, i'm kind of regretting my decision to be responsible and get on my plane this afternoon. i was wearing my beckett t, too! should've taken one for the team and gone looking for him. ;D could've been epic if the airline had had to page me to get the hell on my flight ...
If I could I would call a do over for you and send you my shirt as well. I've been hinting to my bro to try and get me an autograph [insert item here] from Becks for my bday. We'll see how that goes
I found out a few weeks ago that the daughter of a close family friend is dating a Sox pitching prospect -- and since he's (the prospect) also from the Houston area, he's tight with Beckett. I will shamelessly work that connection, yes.
I was watching "Becket" in AP Euro today (the story of Thomas Becket), but instead of the movie, my mind was thinking about a certain other person with a very similar last name...
I too am going to do the sensible thing. Couldn't sleep last night. Today at the office on 4-1/2 hours of sleep was NOT fun...I'm surprised I stayed awake through the game tonight. So I'm about to get horizontal to make up for it. See everyone tomorrow night!
Sorry about tonight. Twins were hot....poor Stickbug. Wasn't able to make it for the chat tonight but I now see Beckett is pitching tomorrow night? I'll be at the game in Baltimore....can't WAIT!!!!!! Catch you all later.
Oi guys
I read this in some essay somewhere and thought it was bizarre.
" Becoming a member of a Christian dating service is not considered false, as long as the person takes in the rules of dating in Christianity. A search for a good Christian dating service produces countless results — there are too many to choose from. However, it pays to exercise prudence while contacting and signing up to these services."

Since people hate being first with the comments, I've started it off for y'all. LOL.
