Jeez. Sexson gets six games for yesterday's brawl.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 7:39 PM

I guess when she said she was putting this up early she wasn't kidding.

That's about right for what he did. It might have been less if he hadn't of thrown the helmet at KG.

Back later

Hi All!

I won't be around tonight. I'm taking my husband and daughter out for his birthday: 50's diner for some burgers, then bowling and laser tag.

The gift I got for the kidlet to give him: Sox/A's tickets for the end of the month. *I* can't wait! (note to Tito: PLEASE play Jacoby on the 23rd, a certain 12-year old is just dying to see him!)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 7:46 PM

Have a great time, Jules! And I'm jealous--I'd love to see the A's.

They're talking about Youk being awesome again. I love this.

[ jules ] says:
on May 9, 2008 7:50 PM

Thanks! He wanted to do something fun, heeheee...laser tag is a blast.

The Oakland Coliseum is about as ugly as a ballpark can be, but it's still a lot of fun to see the Sox play. If you're ever out west, go to ATT Park (SF Giants) because it's beautiful and you can see the bay.

[ jules ] says:
on May 9, 2008 7:51 PM

See Masterson this summer? That'd be all kinds of awesome.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 7:52 PM

I'd love to see Masterson in Pawtucket by May 26, Mike Hazen... ahem.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:08 PM

Hey all...once again I just got home from work, much relieved that I get two whole days away from the place. I haven't even started getting dinner together so will be listening to the broadcast as I do so, then joining y'all after awhile.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:10 PM

The guys in the booth at FSN North just said they sure are glad to have big PAPA back in Minnesota. he he.

Hey Everyone!!! Thank god it's game time!!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:11 PM

Buenos noches, amigos.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:12 PM

Hey, ecl! I'm just finishing up my how-to-make-a-userpic thing for you right now. It's really long, though, (about three and a half pages in Microsoft Word), so I probably won't be able to post it as a comment. Can I e-mail it to you, maybe as an attachment?

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:13 PM

Did I mention I love Jacoby Ellsbury? (Even though he just got out... darn)

[ jules ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:16 PM

PAPI!

I always get nervous when he slides.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:16 PM

Atta boy Papi!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:16 PM

Hey, Ecl - I've meant to make you an icon, really, I have. I've been absurdly busy, though. D'you want any particular players or colors or designs?

Papiii!

[ jules ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:22 PM

Manny!

Gotta run!

Night all!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:23 PM

phew

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:26 PM

I envisioned that going differently.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:28 PM

Silly Jacoby. :P

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:33 PM

THat's an afroturf run right there. Grass that ball doesn't get through.

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:33 PM

Well tihs sucks. Fucking lugo.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:34 PM

THat wasn't Lugo's fault. Shocking for me to defend him there but it really wasn't.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:34 PM

And the middle infield (ahem, shortstop) woes continue.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:36 PM

If you're going to place blame on anyone this inning, place it on Ellsbury for not hitting the cutoff man since the next guy grounded out (which may have been a doubleplay).

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:37 PM

I know it really wasn't his fault, I just wish he would pull a Pedroia, dive after the ball, and miracously (sp?) get the out.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:37 PM

Definitely. But I like being mad at Lugo more. :P

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:40 PM

I'm as disgruntled with Lugo's performance as the next guy, but turning on our own for fun? It's not fun, it's aggravating and sad.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:41 PM

Definitely. But I like being mad at Lugo more. :P

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:42 PM

Youk pretending to be Ellsbury?!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:42 PM

How is Youk getting on first scored?

And then stealing 2nd? Tres bizarre.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:43 PM

-fails at posting-

It's not for fun... it's just easier for me to vent at Lugo. If he'd made that play, it'd be a highlight reel one for sure.

Okay, Tek, let's go...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:44 PM

Whoops -- still haven't had dinner. Had to check back, though.

nj: Yes, mailing it as an attachment would be fine. I have Open Office, so Word should be usable. My regular e-mail addy is FaithD923@aol.com. Just please put something obvious in the subject line so I know what it is!

Liza: I know you've been busy, that's why I haven't mentioned it. I don't know anything about designs. Red is always good, or you can look at my page and see what you think coordinates well. Manny is my favorite, and as Papi is the other half of the tandem, he's certainly high on the list.

Youk steals? Yeah!

Okay, gonna go fix some supper for real now. Will be back after awhile.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:45 PM

fc - it's a strikeout in the book. reaches first on a wild pitch

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:46 PM

Ian- that's almost word for word what my dad said during the commercial break. not that you really remind me of my dad, just in the fact you both know a lot about baseball and stuff.

fc- I completely agree! ("I'm as disgruntled with Lugo's performance as the next guy, but turning on our own for fun? It's not fun, it's aggravating and sad.")

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:46 PM

Look at Tek getting more RBI!
Are we in bizarro world?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:46 PM

P.S. And yes, that's my first name, y'all can call me that if you wish.

YEE HAAAAA!!! On the board!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:48 PM

Faith? That's a pretty name. :)

I'll take it... 2-2 is just fine.

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:48 PM

Yayy tied game!

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:49 PM

Lookie! RBI for Lugie!! Wow!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:50 PM

Skanks down 6-1 to the Tiggers

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:51 PM

Thanks Ian. That's a weird concept - striking out but reaching.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:51 PM

Faith is a really pretty name! I love it.

So does anyone have a favorite player on the Twins?

"David Ortiz used to be a Twin?" -mom
"Yeah, you didn't know that?" -me
"Wait where's the other one?" -my little sister

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:51 PM

Kei Igawa started? HAH. (And Albaladejo's in by the fifth... no surprise there.)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:52 PM

Choco - Joe Mauuuuuuuer. (Predictable? Indeed.)

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:53 PM

Choco, I was thinking something like that when either Don or Remy called him "a former Twin" - another weird concept.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:55 PM

NO.
FREAKIN.
WAY.

Are you serious, Liza?! That is crazy! He is my favorite too! This is weird. Our brain is like, made out of the same... something. I don't know.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:56 PM

There was a fan that looked kind of like Youk.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:56 PM

This is freakin' creepy.

I'm going to make an LJ post listing my favorite player(s) from each team. I want to see how many we have in common!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:56 PM

LOL Liza and choco with your identical brains! And thank you for the compliment on my name.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:57 PM

So speaking of how plays are scored: at a recent game, after Youk singled and the runner who had been at first was thrown out at 2nd, the scoreboard told me that Youk had "reached on FC."

Insert punchline here.

I won't share my reaction but you can probably guess. ;)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 8:59 PM

HA, fc.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:01 PM

Aw, Manny. Well, you gave it a shot.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:02 PM

Totally not on the baseball topic, but ecl....did you guys get any bad storms up your way today?

Too funny fc! I can only imagine. lol

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:03 PM

E friggin six

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:04 PM

Now THAT one was E6.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:04 PM

From Extra bases:

Kevin Youkilis reached on wild pitch by Boof Bonser on a strikeout and then proceeded to steal second base. Drum roll: It was Boston's 21st consecutive stolen base, which according to Elias, is the most bases stolen consecutively by a Red Sox team ever since it became an official statistic in 1920.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:05 PM

That was painful to watch.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:06 PM

Bethie, it rained a little bit last night, not even 1/4 inch, though. We have a severe T-storm watch going right now. How about down your way? Scary about that tornado in the Greensboro area.

And I can't believe E-6 just did it again...

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:06 PM

This is one ugly inning.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:07 PM

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's JEB TIME NOW.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:07 PM

Note to Sox defense: When you have two outs, it's really good to get the third one.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:08 PM

Yeah you should definitely do that, Liza!

This is pretty much my first year getting favorites from other teams. I know it sounds stupid, but other years I was like "red sox, red sox, red sox" and I didn't really care about anyone else. Right at the beginning of this year (the first game actually) I started seeing them all as individual people and players. Last year the only person from another team I liked was Vlad. Now I'm actually getting other favorites from teams. I'm kind of choosing my favorites as the series go on with different teams we face. Last time (Tigers): Curtis Granderson. This time (Twins, in case you forgot): Joe Mauer.

The only person we don't agree on is Grady Sizemore. I'm not like in love with him or emotionally attached or anything, but I do like him. Though it's kind of annoying because he's a pretty good looking guy and there are all these girl fans that are like "OMFG!!!!1 he's the only reason I even watch baseball" and there have been things like "Grady Size-is-more" and it's kind of annoying.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:09 PM

Okay, someone needs to take Lugo behind the shed and kick the shit out of him. Where can I sign up? Dammit butterfingers.

We had a tornado touch down about 3 miles from the house last night, and we had hail earlier tonight and are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 AM. Guess spring has officially sprung around here.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:09 PM

Check your e-mail, ecl; there's a nice little surprise wating for you...!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:11 PM

Choco, that was me about a year ago. The whole liking-players-from-other-teams thing, that is.

Sizemore. :P I just... can't bring myself to like him. I just can't.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:13 PM

Albaladejo just left the game with an elbow injury.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:15 PM

Jeez... the Yanks can't catch a break. (Not that I mind...)

Aww, sad!Lugo makes me sad. But not too much.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:16 PM

I don't know if you've seen this, but it made me smile and I thought it was cute.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:16 PM

James Shields 9 IP 1 hit 0 runs 8 K's

angels-rays 0-0 heading to the bottom of the 9th

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:17 PM

Shields is turning out to be a little Doc Halladay down there.

Also, AWW @ MDC.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:18 PM

OMG Bethie, 3 miles? SCARY! I didn't know your area got them last night too. One perk of living up here is that the mountains break up severe storm lines, so we almost never have tornadoes, and any that do come through are barely worthy of the name.

nj: Thanks! Soon as I eat, I'll check my e-mail. Dinner's almost ready. I definitely need to make sure the attachment will open!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:18 PM

Call me a softie, but I kinda felt bad or Lugo there. That was just a really unlucky error. However, I still have no pity for him on the Detroit one. That one sucked.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:19 PM

ECL, Ok--just e-mail me back or comment here if it doesn't work.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:20 PM

Looks like MDC has always had those lovely eyes.

One more pre-dinner note: I wish I had time to watch lots of games on TV...I would probably have more favorite players on other teams. My list is fairly short. More on that after I eat.before.I.faint!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:21 PM

no no no - what's wrong with Jon?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:22 PM

Aww, Johnny... first the bat, then the leg?

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:22 PM

Uh-oh. I can't see anything through the radio, but this doesn't sound good...

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:23 PM

It looked pretty scary, but he seems okay.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:23 PM

Ian, I think I'm gonna need some video of this later...(please?)

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:23 PM

Those flying bat splinters were pretty scary too.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:24 PM

E-6 just took a pen out and Mike Lowell gave him the lesson on how to field the ball.

It just looked like he hit the bag awkwardly. good thing he's ok.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:25 PM

sorry NJ i didn't DVR the game tonight I don't think.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:26 PM

Ian, That's okay. I really should get MLB.TV, though...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:27 PM

Longoria won the game for the Rays with a walkoff 2-run hummer.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:28 PM

NJ check Gameday on MLB.com to see if they put the highlight up.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:28 PM

Cool. I like Longoria; I don't know why, I just think he's kinda cool.
The Penguins are beating the Flyers 4-2 at the start of the third.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:29 PM

Who doesn't like Longoria?

Okay... cmon, JD...

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:30 PM

Good idea, Ian. Usually they just have scoring plays on GameDay, but sometimes they have some random stuff.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:32 PM

You can tell me how smart I am now since I just checked and it's there.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:32 PM

You're right, Ian (like usual). They did have it up already. Ow, that looked pretty painful...

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:35 PM

Hey I had to check out for awhile...one question: can someone please tell me that Lugo is not responsible for that error on the board

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:35 PM

Ian is smart but apparently in need of constant reinforcement.

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:35 PM

Oh and what looked painful...?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:35 PM

ya gotta love Nick Cafardo from the Boston Globe:

Is it getting to the point where you just feel sorry for Julio Lugo?

It seems every ball hit to him is an adventure. You can tell he's in that 'hit it anywhere but to me" mode

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:37 PM

fc it's nice to get stroked every now and then. The ego that is. :D

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:38 PM

Jessi, Lester getting attacked by pieces of a shattered bat then having Morneau slide into him was what looked painful.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:38 PM

Credit where credit is due: nice steal by Lugo.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:39 PM

Bad news for the Twins:

According to general manager Bill Smith, Pat Neshek is expected to miss at least three months and may be sidelined for the remainder of the season with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament.

Smith said that Neshek won't be allowed to throw for at least three months and added that getting him healthy in time for spring training is the Twins' current goal. Losing Neshek is a huge blow to the Twins' bullpen, as he's gone 11-5 with a 2.91 ERA and 142/37 K/BB ratio in 120 2/3 career innings. Matt Guerrier and Juan Rincon will split setup duties in front of Joe Nathan.

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:39 PM

Oh god, that does sound painful - hope he's ok.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:42 PM

Yeah, he's fine, but it must have been pretty scary to have pieces of a bat flying at him.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:42 PM

the Portland Beavers are loosing 8-1 in the top of the 5th... (I never even knew there was a AAA team called the Beavers, but when I saw "Portland" I thought it was the Sea Dogs and then I realized it wasn't, because the Sea Dogs are AA. By the way- the Sea Dogs lost 7-3)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:42 PM

Oh Manny

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:44 PM

Jessi- Yes, it was Julio's error.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:46 PM

I don't like baseball.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:46 PM

Dang.

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:47 PM

Choco - I was afraid of that...

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:48 PM

Nicely palyed by all - including Lugo!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:49 PM

And, ftr, the PawSox were rained out.

Also, can't we just get some consistency from Lester?

DP--good.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:54 PM

Yeah, that's 11 on the season. I think his goal is to exceed his jersey number by the All-Star break. I hope not though. I hope he sneezes and all the Bad comes out. Let's just hope he uses a tissue. (I'm trying this sarcastic-funny thing. It's not my natural element, so if it's not funny then just ignore me. I'm really not a funny person...)

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:55 PM

ok so speaking of the Sexson brawl (1st few comments)...where can I see the video on it now? every link i click on says it isnt available anymore.

and, on a game note: fucking LUGO! send him down to AAA to learn basic fielding skills.

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:55 PM

what kind of a name is Boof?

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:57 PM

YEAH MIKEY!!!!

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:58 PM

thanks Mikey Doubles!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:58 PM

Choco--the post is up. :)

YEAH MIKEY

Bye-bye, Boof.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:58 PM

Yay, Mikey!

[ Jessi ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:58 PM

Yayyy Mikeyyy!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 9:58 PM

Where else would you see it?

Sexson fight

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:00 PM

Ian, you rock. Have I told you that lately?

C'mon Youuuuk!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:01 PM

John P. Bonser had his name legally changed to Boof Bonser in high school.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:01 PM

Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk!

Tie game (again)!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:01 PM

The comeback Sox do it again.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:01 PM

So I've been wolfing down the tacos with a smile progressively broadening across my face, both because I finally feel human again and because our guys are making me happy right about now!

I'm wondering what the chances are that a guy with Lugo's salary would be send to AAA for remedial work.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:02 PM

Never mind... 6-5!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:02 PM

I like baseball.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:02 PM

Wow, Ian. That wasn't even close! Well, maybe it was close but not close enough to attack him like that. (It was very funny, though!)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:02 PM

nice Mikey. We like it.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:03 PM

Lugo doesn't have options so they wouldn't send him to Triple-A.

They could phantom DL him or just give him a few days off to clear his head.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:03 PM

WOO HOO! The comeback kids! I'd better wait until they're done with this inning before I head for my AOL mail, nj!

And yes, Ian definitely rocks!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:05 PM

And there goes the Red Sox stolen base streak

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:05 PM

Aww, someone got caught. Oh well.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:07 PM

Ian, I have to confess, I don't know enough about the business side of baseball to know what "options" are. The DL would probably be a little bit too obvious. Maybe a head-clearing break is in order. Either that or a dugout exorcism. Hey, it worked for Papi.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:13 PM

An option is when they're sent down. You hear about players being "optioned" or the team "exercising an option" on a player, that's when they go to the minors.

What Wikipedia has to say

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:14 PM

ecl - read this when you have time.

It's a good write up on the transactions that take place in baseball.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/s/transanctionsprimer.html

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:14 PM

Again, if we're gonna criticize, we should also give props: another(!) nice play for Lugo.
Prove us wrong, Julio. I dare you.

Please.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:15 PM

actually Liza, exercising an option means they have an option on a player's contract that they are exercising.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:15 PM

yes fc that was a nice play by lugo and a nice hit to boot.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:16 PM

And, once again, my limited knowledge of baseball business shows. >.>

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:17 PM

Oh shit...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:17 PM

D.O. called him Loogie before he got hit on the head.

Nobody throws out Jacoby.

[ Ian ] says:

Wow that was close again for Tacoby

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:20 PM

WTF did RemDawg just call him. Rin - con

It's Rin - cone (spelled Rincon).

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:21 PM

Ian- I have DVR, too. How do you get it from the cable box to the computer?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:23 PM

Make 'em pay Manny

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:24 PM

Catching up now, finally.

Thank you, Liza and Ian, for the educational materials on baseball transactions (bookmarked to be read later this weekend).

Jacoby-run-like-deer, you amaze me.

nj: If you're still here, the document came through just fine. At first glance...I already have several hundred saved pics on my computer, so that's one major step accomplished. More education awaits.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:24 PM

this guy has crazy hair in his picture, haha

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:24 PM

Choco - I'm too cheap to get the DVR on my cable box. I have a TV tuner for my computer and a computer DVR program that I use. Makes it much easier.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:26 PM

Volquez LOVE.

Also, oh well.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:27 PM

Choco, that is some kind of hair. And I see he and Lugo are from the same place in the DR.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:28 PM

Yanks almost came back to win but they lost 6-5.

All I know is my fantasy pitching staff is taking a beating tonight except for sabathia.

Boof Bonser - 4 IP 6 earned runs
Todd Jones - 1 IP 3 earned runs
Gil Meche - 5 IP 5 runs
Sabathia - 7 IP - 1 run

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:29 PM

Oh okay...

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:31 PM

No problem, ecl. I'm glad it helped!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:31 PM

Aw, what a resigned expression on Jon's face as Tito approached the mound.

[ Ian ] says:

[ Ian ] says:

[ Ian ] says:

NICEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Great relay throw by SuperPedroia

[ Liza ] says:

YES. I am glad Jacoby threw to the farther cutoff man there.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:37 PM

GREAT WORK GUYS! I can't wait for the replay on that!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:37 PM

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she yelled, sending the cat scurrying off the couch to safety away from the crazylady.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:38 PM

I was about to start yelling at Jacoby for missing the cut off man (Lugo) until I saw Pedroia right behind him.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:45 PM

Well... that's different from the horrendous Pleats commercials...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:45 PM

LOL fc...poor kitteh!

[ fc ] says:

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:57 PM

C'mon, guys... insurance runs...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:57 PM

Double steal anyone?

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 9, 2008 10:59 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury and Jed Lowrie are the 1st Red Sox teammates from Oregon prior to September 1 since 1950, when RHP Jim McDonald and INF Johnny Pesky were both on the roster.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:00 PM

(sigh).....

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:05 PM

Pesky has a total mancrush on Jacoby. He gushes about his swing like I gush about his face.

Nice play by Lugie and Youkie.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:06 PM

Lugo owes Youk a steak dinner for saving his ass from another E-6

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:06 PM

Yeah Tek!

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:06 PM

TEK!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:08 PM

Oh captain my captain!

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:08 PM

hey everybody...Just got into Jacksonville and I missed all of the game so far. seems like an interesting one.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:09 PM

Hey Di! It's been a strange one, that's for sure...

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:11 PM

I've been calling my house every five minutes to find out the score.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:11 PM

Not too often you see Manny strikeout 3 times in a game.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:12 PM

Going to party at the Landing tonight?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:12 PM

Poor Manny...what's with all these Ks?

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:12 PM

are you asking me Ian?

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:13 PM

and by the way, how did the whole tie thing work out?

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:14 PM

(This is in response to ecl (or should I say Faith) saying "Choco, that is some kind of hair. And I see he and Lugo are from the same place in the DR." at like 10:30. But I was eating some dessert and paying attention to the game instead of writing it.)

I love the Dominican Republic! If I could go anywhere in the world, some of my picks would be: Florida (to see my big brother), Oregon (any guesses as to why?), Dominican Republic, or Germany (heritage and all).

I'm planning on going to the DR on a missionary trip sometime soon. It's the only reason I take Spanish. While I'm working on Spanish I just keep remembering why I wanted to learn it in the first place (to go to the DR). I have pictures of some Dominican players in my book, too. :)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:16 PM

I know tons of people from the DR... one of whom throws 75-80 MPH (at age 15 or whatever he is)...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:16 PM

Well Di. Yes I'm asking you. You're in Jacksonville, LOL.

The tie thing went well. I wore my Jerry Garcia tie that was hanging up in the closet already tied. It was buried in there. had to do some searching for it.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:18 PM

And for those of you who are going to ask (the youngens under 20ish) who Jerry Garcia is, he was the lead singer of the Grateful Dead, who by the way is one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen.

The other being Jane's Addiction live in St. Petersburg.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:18 PM

Well I asked because I've never heard of that place. I'm not really familiar with Jax,. Im visiting my bro and a friend from college.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:19 PM

but I will have to ask the boys about it. You've got me interested

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:21 PM

I didn't know who Jerry Garcia was, but I do know who the Grateful Dead are, and I knew they had ties, too. One of my 8th grade teachers had a Grateful Dead tie, and his son (who was in my class) had one too. It was these mummies walking around. Pretty funny...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:21 PM

If they go out, they most certainly have been down to The Landing.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:22 PM

Choco -- your book? Are you writing a book or something?

I too would love to visit the DR...I get chills just thinking about the number of awesome players who were born there. And the people of the DR are just so pretty. Something about the widely divergent gene pool, I guess.

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:23 PM

I'm having deja vu.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:24 PM

what happened? I dont have NESN here

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:24 PM

Laughing at the thought of people not knowing who Jerry Garcia was! (I'm dating myself, of course)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:24 PM

YOUUUUUUUK.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:25 PM

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:33 PM

Awww, Paps, don't break anything tonight. Those guys were just so damned relentless.

[ Liza ] says:

This is pathetic.

NO WAY!!!!!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:33 PM

Oh well. go get'em tomorrow boys

[ james ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:33 PM

papelbon's location seemed way off the past 2 games

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:33 PM

Fuck Indoor Baseball!

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:34 PM

Glad I'm not a water cooler right now.

The wrath of Papelbon cometh.....

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:34 PM

The Sox are now 1-8 this season in domed stadiums, with the only win coming back in Japan on opening day.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:35 PM

methinks someone should remove the water coolers from the dugout.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:35 PM

Agreed, Piney. Gimme an actual sky any day.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:35 PM

Lyndsay -- you're right...except the E6 was in a different inning. That's just eerie.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:36 PM

ok if he beats something up can someone post it? It's horrible but it really made me laugh

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:36 PM

Well since Texy is away, that would make me responsible for that and I didn't turn the DVR on.

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:37 PM

what the fuck? they seem to have these bizarre losses only when they're on the road.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:37 PM

aww thats ok. I always wondered how you posted videos from the game

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:38 PM

I didn't see him hurt anything. He's doing a good job controlling himself, unless it's in the clubhouse. He didn't swear or anything. I'm proud of him. :)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:39 PM

I figured out why Papelbon blew the game tonight.

He didn't get his entry music to get him pumped up.

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:39 PM

well...Lugo did cost them 2 runs tonight. if he hadn't bobbled and made that out, thats it, inning over.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:39 PM

locker room watch out.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:40 PM

you think so Ian? Could be a valid theory

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:41 PM

Ian: Entry music? I could have sworn I heard Shipping Up To Boston.

[ james ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:41 PM

they did leave a ton of baserunners on though, esp in the last 2 innings they left 2 per inning. so they had chances. oh well. theres tomorrow.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:42 PM

I would be very surprised if they did

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:42 PM

Well there is always tommorrow. We'll get 'em then!

Hopefully my computer will cooperate so that I can watch the game and post at the same time tomorrow. :)

Bye!!

[ Mary ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:42 PM

So, I've been out all night, but I managed to make it in time for the bottom of the 9th.

I do feel bad for Paps. He's clearly trying his damned hardest.

He just absolutely butchers himself for every single loss.... :(

[ fc ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:42 PM

Pap looked like he was working on a slow burn there - which I expect to be followed by an even greater explosion, probably in the locker room off-camera.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:43 PM

ecl, they may have played it on the radio but there's no way in hell they played it for him at the Metrodome.

[ choco ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:43 PM

I'm out. Talk to you guys later...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:44 PM

Like Britney Spears underwear during her crazy days, I'm off for the night.

[ Di ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:44 PM

night everyone!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:47 PM

See y'all. Better times await. Ian is no doubt correct about the radio.

[ Adam ] says:
on May 9, 2008 11:58 PM

since when does Papelbon throw his splitter this much???? He can blow his fastball by anyone in baseball, thats why he has a sick K/9 ratio. And he did it the other night against the Tigers, falling in love with his splitter. And tonight against Carlos Gomez and Mike fucking Lamb, he can't blow them away with a fastball???? Less dunkin donuts commercials, more fastballs!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 10, 2008 7:34 PM

I know Texy is running late with her post today so if y'all need a place to chat, use my afternoon post until she gets the post up. If you don't and want to wait, it's cool.
