Silver Lining

The silver lining of the grey cloud that was the pummeling of Clay Buchholz by the Twins' bats last night? Thanks to NESN, we got to witness Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez making fun of the batting stances of Jason Varitek and Sean Casey.

Youkilis is one to make fun of anyone. Watch him some time. He goes *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *wiggle* *wiggle* *wiggle*. LOL

I already saw this last night, but I still laugh. I love the Red Sox... so much.

Ellen, that was my first thought too. I have never seen anyone wiggle so much.

That doesn't make any less hilarious.

Ellen, you beat me too it. I *always* crack up at Youk at the plate. And Pleats, too. We call him "Nomar lite" for his routine of adjusting his batting gloves. Every time. Then the face stretch.

haha! the face stretch, I thought i was the only one who noticed it was like he was trying to loosen boogies out of his nose. yeah I'd like to see one of the other guys do Youk's stance - he always looks like he's preparing to fight a samurai.

that was the first time I noticed the Sean Casey horse routine though...I pretty much have everyone else's tics down though...Tek hitting his heels with the bat, Coco's scrunched-up face, Lugo trying to be like Manny with the bat held out, Ortiz's two claps (so glad now for the nesn.com commercial!)

Lyndsay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves all the batting rituals. Don't forget Papi's spitting in his glove, too. I like Coco's flapping his fingers on his bat (you have to have a close-up to see it).

Is there anything *more* superstitious than a professional athlete? I don't think so.

Thank you! I can never get too much Youky goodness. And I need to time my game breaks to fit precisely within the commercials so I don't miss these 'special moments.'

And yeah, Youk is one to talk. What we need to see tonight is someone getting him back, making fun of his bouncy-corkscrew stance.

If it wasn't for this, and Manny's early homerun, last night would have been a very sad night.

Also, I don't think you can have a batting ritual convo without mentioning Nomar. Come on, OCD much?!

ahaha. brilliant.
I kinda make fun of Coco Puffs everytime he flaps his fingers up and down his mouth/chin. I mean, what IS that?

...and Jacoby taps the bottoms of his cleats with the end of the bat after almost every pitch.

Youk has no right to be making fun of ANYONE's batting stance. I honestly mimicked his BOUNCE BOUNCE BAT-JIGGLE BOUNCE at my softball game yesterday. And then he went and did this... hah.

I love the batting rituals. Youk cracks me up with the bouncing routine. I never noticed Manny point the bat until this year. I think Lugo was already doing that, along with the murderous glare. Dustin's face stretch makes him look like a turtle. Coco's face scrunch makes him look like a toothless old man. And I've gotten to the point where I pretend-spit and clap twice every time I see Papi up to bat.
