Boston's Favorite Almost-But-Not-Quite Sox Player

Kevin Millar just can't get enough of Boston. Papi, Lester and Schilling and the rest of the Sox crew weren't the only ones at Sunday night's Celtics-Lakers clash, Mr. Millar was live and in person -- and made an appearance on the jumbotron in the Garden to a rousing ovation. Per the Globe, he was parked right next to David Ortiz at courtside.

As usual, some folks in Baltimore are getting their feathers ruffled about Kevin's Boston proclivities.

I don't know what to make of this. On the one hand it's just some dude enjoying an off night among friends. On the other, it just looks bad.

Basically I think it comes down to this: Millar is kind of a big oaf, and he knows not what he does. Some of the best years of his life were spent in Boston and he probably really does wish he was still there. I don't doubt that he gives the Orioles 100%, but he's not now and will never be "one of us" (for lack of a better way to put it). He's just a warm body at first base, holding a place for Mark Teixeira or whoever else we settle on to man that position for real.

C'mon? You can't honestly get your panties in a wad when a professional athlete, who is already in town to play a game, uses whatever connections he has to get tickets to go to an epic NBA Finals game. I mean, it's not like he taped a go-get 'em message for a divisional rival before a playoff game... or threw out the first pitch for that same rival before another playoff game.

Have I mentioned how much I love Kevin Millar?

He is definitely my favorite non-Red Sox! You can't help but to find him hopelessly adorable!

At Baltimore games, he is simultaneously booed by O's fans and cheered for by Sox fans. It's great.

We should get rid of those scary sox mascots (Leftie and Rightie?) and trade them for Kevin Millar. I mean come on. Kevin Millar and Wally. IDEAL.

Oh Kevin Millar, he is truly the ex-girlfriend who will not stop calling you. He probably annoys the crap out of Baltimore players with his "Boston Stories" and when he reminisces with Bradford about the 2005 season (Payton would, but he kinda left on a bad note) But I kinda like it that way. You know once he retires(which could be as soon as after this season), he is gonna make sure he works with the Red Sox in some capacity. Not sure exactly what, but he'll do something....hell he'd probably even be a groundskeeper or clubhouse manager.

No one has mentioned his fashion sense! How about that designer shirt? So sexy for such an old dude.

Some of us Oriole fans (I think there are about a dozen) really dig Millar. You can't take the couple who happen to blog as representative of the other 10.

AGT: It looks like he raided Papi's closet.

OTA: There are definitely more than 12 fans. Y'all are not the Rays, after all. You have at least a couple hundred.

I think he's wearing most folks down in Baltimore - mostly because he always seems to get big hits and/or plays against Boston. So as much as his shtick riled people up at first, I think people in Charm City now see it's mostly just the Wooderson in him... reliving old glory days.

I love how he's Mr. Chatty Cathy on the basepaths. someone hits 1st and he's all "how you been, man? I heard you had some kind of groin issue, man, but let me send you to my chiro, man, he's the best. so how's the wife? what, preggers again? awwww look at you, dawg! hey so me and Roberts are hittin some spots after, wanna come with?"

Wooderson, TG? hahaha nice ref! post-game in the clubhouse he's like, "PARTY AT THE MOONTOWER!"
Surviving Grady did a post last year on "works of literature made better by Kevin Millar" - hilarious and classic.
