Texy, I didn't realize you're from Houston. My favorite cousin is down there, although he's an unreconstructed New Yorker even after 20 years in Houston, and he pulls for the Yankees. He sent me an e-mail a couple of days ago telling me that he hopes the Astros win these games. I'm tempted to go down there and put a hurting on him for that, LOL.
Anyway, I'm still at work and am having a goof-off moment. Check out Gameday while you're all waiting for the game to start. It has a new set of viewing options, with panning and zooming and all sorts of fun stuff. I'm non-TV again, so will enjoy the new toy when I finally get home!
I'm so looking forward to enjoying this game. After watching (and loving) the Yankee pitching get destroyed this afternoon, I'm hoping for a good game by the Sox.
I'm so mad at myself because I have David Wright on my fantasy team and I forgot about the afternoon game today and he wasn't on my starting roster for today
Hey, did anyone see what was up with Dustin after they first tried to get him out at first? He was messing with something and stuck it to the bottom of his helmet....
It doesn't have a roof for rain - it has a roof because it's over 100 degrees throughout the summer (and over 90 degrees into late October) plus 100% humidity (thanks, Gulf! thanks, swamps!). It is like having a wet wool blanket draped around you... in 100 degree temperatures.
Put it this way: Houston has tunnels underneath the city that connect all the buildings downtown. Not steam tunnels, to get out of the snow -- but because the heat is so awfully oppressive.
BUSY day. My kidlet is going to camp and am getting her packed and ready to ship out. DH and I are going to Tahoe tomorrow to see Alison Krauss and Robert Plant (I'm so excited to see him!!!!) There WILL be a margarita in my near future.
Interesting ball park with the hill and pole that is in play. Real margaritas and mexican food? I can live with that.
I didn't know that about the tunnels, TG. That's pretty amazing. I'd love to visit my several family members who live in Houston, but it would have to be in the dead of winter because I can't deal with 90+.
Back in high school, I was on dance team - and we used to have 2-a-days in the summer like the football team. How more kids don't die while doing that stuff outside in the Houston heat for 7 or 8 hours a day in August, I have no idea.
Then again, it sure is awesome to go home at Thanksgiving or Christmas and wear short sleeves and shorts.
P.S. about Alison Krauss...the very first time I heard her sing, she had just released her first album (on vinyl...it was around 1986). She was about 16 years old, and the sound guys at the festival had to keep tweaking the system because her voice was so powerful that she kept overloading it. I actually was rather sorry when it became evident in later years that she had reined it in so much...but she's still an amazing singer.
I love, LOVE, LOOOOOOOVE Robert Plant (BIG Led Zeppelin fan) and have always been a fan of Alison Krauss. I couldn't believe it when I heard they were doing a CD (which is awesome, btw). An outdoor concert at Lake Tahoe is too much to pass up.
TG, my aforementioned favorite cousin down there is a phys ed teacher/coach/personal trainer, and he coaches both indoors and outdoors. How he stands it or survives it I don't know. It does explain why he keeps his head shaved the majority of the time (he's got thick curly black hair...can you imagine how much that would hold the heat?).
Yup - the park is A/C'd when the roof is closed. They'll blow fans when the roof is open, to keep that thick heavy air from getting stagnant - but it's not A/C'd all the way. Their utility bills must be outrageous.
ecl: I have long (like, waist length) hair - so I can definitely sympathize.
How bad do you think it annoys other baseball fans that there are always enough Red Sox fans at away games to get a nice "Let's go red sox" chant going???
YAY JD! Gameday and WRKO are slow...but I figured that's what happened. Now doesn't it figure that JD was the 4th batter, not the 3rd...otherwise somebody-or-other would have won something, per WRKO's blabbering before this inning.
Now I know what you're talking about, fc. They look really sharp. Long hair makes me look dreadful so I will never again have anything but short hair, so I won't be attempting to figure them out. By which I mean, I'm very challenged when it comes to figuring out spatial relations by touch alone, as they describe in those instructions.
Oh, she was included -- that's great! I wasn't sure if she meant her roommate kicked her out so roomie could cavort. That must've been the hockey guy who is their neighbor?
HA! Well, I'm sure Newington is about as tame as Sodom Laurel, NC, where outsiders dare not venture unless they have business there (Sodom Laurel is so way back in the way back that Bethie has never even heard of it, I'm sure)...
Just got home from work, get to watch some game. Got home in time for the final out last night, but did tape the game last nite, to watch after I knew the outcome.
And along the lines of being not too swift, I'm having way too much fun manipulating the new Gameday toys. I was just watching from an aerial perspective. Wondering what to try next...LOL...
So ecl, for your benefit, Youk is sporting a clear pair of glasses tonight, which make him look like your high school shop teacher, or maybe your neighbor's Uncle Murray.
And I'll have to check out Gameday, sounds like a lot has changed since spring training.
And on that note...I'm gonna do something that I haven't done since the winter holidays. Someone gave me a bottle of beer today at work. She was cleaning out the office fridge...we have beach volleyball parties every Wednesday in back of the office and it was a leftover. It's hot in here, fc is on the floor, and I'm gonna open that beer! :-D
heh erin i dropped him about 3 weeks ago myself after that 3-4 run .1 inning disaster. then again dice K's 63 ERA last week didnt help matters and i still have him but thats another story.
i kept Oki wayyyyyy longer then i should have and drafted alot of red sox higher then they usually go. there was another sox fan in my league too so that made it harder too since he was shooting for alot of them as well. working out OK though i'm in 2nd for now.
It's a fallacy that it doesn't happen at all at Fenway - but then a little game of leapfrog ensues, as we all keep moving down for free seat upgrades. It's like the food chain.
It tastes great...and I can tell that I'm very out of drinking shape. I can feel it after just 1/2 the beer. May have to go buy some and get back in shape (in moderation, of course).
Ian -- looks like he's in the middle of making his "turtle face." The jury is out as to whether it's a facial tic or something to do with his contacts. Yikes.

Yes, I am outrageously happy the Sox are playing my hometown Astros.
Yes, I am overwhelmingly distraught I am not back home to watch them.
