Over/under on how many blog posts and newspaper articles will talk about how this is a battle of old dudes and/or make an age joke?

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 6:53 PM

what no rain today?! yay!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 6:54 PM

I for one, wish we could hear more about NASCAR during the pregame. I'm really crossing my fingers they have more in-booth interviews tonight... hopefully about NASCAR.

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 6:54 PM

yup it's the battle of the old timers!

[ EricaC ] says:

Hey everyone!

[ jenny again ] says:

i'm hoping for a big game for ellsbury.

am i being greedy?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:00 PM

Hey all...will be mostly in the other room but will, of course, check in during commercials and pitching changes. Hope everyone is doing well!

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:02 PM

I'm gonna ask this now before i forget, but I wanted to know how/when the "Sweet Caroline" tradition started? I love that and was just curious

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:02 PM

Naah, not greedy, Jenny! I'm hoping the same for Manny. For the whole team, actually, but you know how it is...

[ jenny again ] says:

remy loves pedey as much as ME!

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Yep, they're at it already..."the oldest pitching matchup in history."

Hey everyone!

TG on ESPN2 Nascar News they interviewed the Fenway Rousch drivers and Jon Lester

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:05 PM

thanks TG. we went to a Greenville Drive game this summer and they played it there too. the replica Green Monster was pretty neat too!

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:05 PM

Hey all. I'm pretty excited about seeing this pitching match up tonight. Cause I love Wakey, but RJ is pretty bad ass.

Here's hoping for a good game. If it starts out bad, I will be forced to sleep through it like I did last night so that they might win. ;)

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:08 PM

WOW those are ugly jerseys, arizona.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:09 PM

Thanks, Danielle!

So we had Byrnes + pornstache on Monday.
But no pornstache yesterday or today. I feel cheated.

Good evening, all.

do you think Paps might pull some shananigans down south?

[ starlight-d ] says:

(FYI--Formally starlightmusic)

Erin: I AM! Can't wait to see what kind of "sneaky" retaliation they go for.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:15 PM

Erin, I can't wait! I'm actually going to the second game so it will be a great first regular season game for me.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:16 PM

I wonder how close Beckett will pitch if he's up against them...

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:16 PM

hi, jacoby.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:17 PM

Do you suppose there's a mullet under that cap?

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:18 PM

Every time I see Randy Johnson pitch I think the same thing.

Damn, he's huge.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:18 PM

I just hope there won't be any cowbells at the games

nice hit!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:19 PM

Oh my god... his eye still looks terrible.

It's okay, Youk--it'll turn from black to yellow soon enough! :)

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:20 PM

Oh, no sexy orange specs. Boo.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:20 PM

man, i love that smug little bastard. oh, pedey.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:22 PM

Does anyone else out there have kids?

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:23 PM

dback announcers just said that in rj's last 4 starts at fenway (all as a yankee) manny has hit a homer off of him every game. foreshadowing?!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:24 PM

Youk's eye actually looks much better than I expected.

And every time I see Randy Johnson pitch all I can think is how unbelievably homely he is, "bless his heart."

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:25 PM

This is my favorite moment of the day: kids asleep and Red Sox on the tele. Only thing missing is the correct pitcher...

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:26 PM

Youk has the glasses!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:26 PM

OH! Tito! Someone took your lunch money in 3rd grade? Oh, cruel, cruel world.

Oh, there're the orange specs.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:26 PM

Yaaay sunglasses!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:27 PM

Hmmm...#49 and #51...are those their ages. (yuk, yuk, yuk)

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:29 PM

haha ecl "bless his heart"

southern terms rubbing off on you?? Johnson does kinda look hobo-ish. Hmmmm.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:30 PM

And this is why I love Mikey

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:30 PM

Hey everyone!

Wake v. Big Unit. LOVE THIS!

Long week--have a big demo (show and tell ;-) tomorrow and I'm working hard getting ready for it. Of course, the dummy data is full of Sox names. I have to keep myself amused.

starlight, yep. I've got a 12-year old daughter. I missed yesterday's game because we had a Mommy-Daughter date. I hope she knows how much it meant that I missed Masterson ;-).

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:30 PM

myglowal!

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:31 PM

Woo hoo Coco!!!

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:32 PM

So far I would say that Randy Johnson is not exactly fooling anyone.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:32 PM

Jules, I can't wait until mine is old enough for Mommy-Daughter dates. :) I'm sure she can appreciate the sacrifice...my kids know every time Josh pitches.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:32 PM

How tall is Johnson?

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:33 PM

6'10"

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:33 PM

Erin, he's 6'10''.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:33 PM

Erin-2, except himself.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:34 PM

I don't know who that guy was, but he just might make me interested in Nascar

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:34 PM

Nice one, starlight.

Man, everyone is tagging the ball. The outs are hard, and the hits are solid. Let's hope we can capitalize.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:35 PM

starlight, she's not a big sports fan (oh *where* did I go wrong?!?!?!?!), but she loves Jacoby.

How old is your daughter?

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:35 PM

Nothing against anyone who likes Nascar but I can't get into it.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:36 PM

That would be David Ragan, starlight. Roush racing's "newest" driver.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:36 PM

jules, she's 2. Having surgery tomorrow...tubes in her ears. I hope all goes well.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:37 PM

Erin, my Mom is a huge Tony Stewart fan and my brother is a huge Jimmy Johnson fan. The most entertaining thing about NASCAR for me is watching *them* watch a race--pure comedy.

Now that they have a Red Sox car with baseball stitching, I might watch a game while I work. If the Sox aren't on, anyways.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:38 PM

Erin, I'm with you. I like the idea of a race, but can't watch cars drive around in circles for hours. But, like Beckett said, it is the only sport you can take a nap in the middle of watching. Follow this link:
http://www.boston.com/partners/worldnow/nesn/landingpage.html?clipId=1237648&topVideoCatNo=80782

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:38 PM

I know I'm far from the first to mention it, but it has to be said: Lugo needs to quit grabbing at his crotch. He must know people talk about it all the time, so just stop doing it already. Or get a different cup if it's such a problem.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:38 PM

starlight, I remember when my daughter was 2--it's a fun age (she didn't have "terrible twos," but the "threes" were more interesting).

I'll say a prayer for your daughter. It's a common procedure--I'm sure it'll go well!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:39 PM

*hat tip to yankeessuck-mcb for that link*

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:39 PM

I remember seeing a commerical for this special on CNN about Nascar drivers and the type of training they go through.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:41 PM

Lugo needs to learn the difference between ball handling himself and the baseball. If he could separate the two, that would be great.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:42 PM

Sure, if he treated the baseball as well as he treated his own pair, we'd be looking at a Gold Glove caliber shortstop.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:43 PM

Bethie -- I said "bless your heart" with you in mind. I knew you'd know what I meant! :-)

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:45 PM

Sure, if he treated the baseball as well as he treated his own pair, we'd be looking at a Gold Glove caliber shortstop.

That's funny.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:47 PM

Erin-2 that was great.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:47 PM

That IS funny. I've seen so many references to his adjustments. Haven't actually seen that much of it myself (although I did see that one tug during his at-bat), but that's probably because I don't get to see very many games.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:47 PM

Jules, Thanks for the well wishes. I'm sure it will be ok, too. Bet she'll ask for ice cream as soon as we leave the hospital.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:47 PM

waKKKe!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:49 PM

Starlight, tympanostomy tubes are very routine. Don't worry, she'll be fine! And I'm sure she'll love the ice cream afterwards...I remember having it a lot after I had my tonsils out. :-)

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:49 PM

Does anyone know how to find out who will be playing at an upcoming Pawsox game? They have the probably pitchers on the Red Sox site, but I can't locate that on the PawSox site.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:49 PM

I thank starlight-d for the setup for the joke.

Some have speculated that Lugo's problem is that he wears his pants up at his nipples, thereby creating a tightness in the crotch area that he wouldn't ordinarily have. I don't know. I just wish it would stop. Maybe it wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't hate him as a player.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:52 PM

Erin-2, me, too. I can't STAND Lugo. I groan every time I see his name and realize that it should be Lowrie playing instead. Boo. And what the hell is he doing with pants up to his damned nipples?!?

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:52 PM

starlight, ice cream cures a lot of ills ;-). I'm sure it'll more nerve-wracking for you.

Pleats! I'm glad to see him hitting again.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:54 PM

My mom just came into the room and is commenting about Randy Johnson.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:54 PM

When I've seen Lugo live and in person, I have to resist the urge to run out on the field and just pull his pants down a few inches. Loosen the belt, Lugo. I'd like to see how he wears his pants in his civilian life, actually. Wonder if it's the same.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:54 PM

The probable pitching match-ups for the remainder of the series vs. Richmond:

Thur. 7:05 pm (COX) LHP Chuck James (3-2, 1.88) vs. RHP David Pauley (9-2, 3.78)

NEXT ON TAP - The probable pitching match-ups for the upcoming series at Rochester:

Fri. 7:05 pm (COX) RHP Edgar Martinez (2-1, 4.22) vs. RHP Danny Graves (3-2, 5.40)
Sat. 7:05 pm RHP Charlie Zink (8-2, 2.33) vs. RHP Kevin Mulvey (3-7, 4.06)
Sun. 1:35 pm RHP Devern Hansack (3-8, 4.81) vs. LHP Brian Duensing (4-7, 4.10)

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:54 PM

Johnson looks like someone we'll see later this week on an episode of Cops. Seriously, he needs to cut that stringy mess sprouting out of his cap.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:55 PM

Of course, I exaggerate about the nipples thing (TG, how many times did you figure to see the word "nipples" on your site tonight?). It just seems like they're that high. Maybe it has something to do with Lugo's body type.

Anyway, back to the game.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:56 PM

Whatever DID happen to Urkel, anyway? Perhaps we've found him?

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:57 PM

TG: Is it too early to know for the July 4th game? We're taking the kids to see the Pawsox and the fireworks, and I'm really hoping to see Zink pitch. And Lowrie in the infield.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:57 PM

Yes. It is WAY too early to know that.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:58 PM

That's the flying pizza corner.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:59 PM

Starlight, it's too early. I shouldn't be talking, though, I've been imagining pitching matchups in August for months now.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 7:59 PM

They need to put a sign up officially naming it that.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:00 PM

Yeah, I figured it was too early. It's killing me wondering who'll pitch the Sox game on Aug. 3rd, too. But, I guess the anticipation is half the fun.

Com'on Lowell!!

[ Dan ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:01 PM

Salt & Pepper, Lowell, baby!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:01 PM

I'd pay money to see Pleats standing next to Johnson.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:03 PM

Is Remy off tonight? I don't think I've heard him all night.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:03 PM

starlight, the best height matchup is in the minors on the same team is the tallest and shortest players in baseball at like 7 ft and 5 ft 2 or something like that

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:04 PM

On what team?

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:05 PM

Pizza! the dbacks guys spent like an entire inning discussing that last night haha and apparently it is the funniest thing Mark Grace has ever seen in his life!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:06 PM

The teenybopper in me laughed a lot at the name Greg Biffle. Heh.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:06 PM

What is this about Pizza?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:07 PM

I think you mean Mark "Slumpbuster" Grace.

Mark was my first baseball crush.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:07 PM

Im pretty sure its one of the Twins minor league teams but I honestly don't remember. They were on ESPN First Take earlier in the season and it was hysterical to see the height difference

[ Dan ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:07 PM

Here Comes a Pizza moment is one of the best play-by-play analysis I have ever heard.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:08 PM

Erin-2, I think you're right about Lugo's body type affecting how he wears the uni pants. He's so thin...maybe they won't stay up unless he hitches them WAY up. But I've seen pics of him in street clothes and he appears to wear pants in a normal manner, so maybe it's just wearing the uniform that's an issue? I dunno.

Starlight, LOL about Urkel.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:09 PM

Oh is the pizza thing the from last year with the fan throwing the pizza?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:09 PM

WaKKKey!

Has he even walked anyone yet?

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:10 PM

Showalter just used the phrase "assume the position" on the ESPN broadcast. Interesting.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:10 PM

Never mind, WaKKKKKe

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:10 PM

WaKKKKey!

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:10 PM

waKKKKKey! yahoo!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:11 PM

Hmph. Five? Gameday is running behind. That's what I get for trying to catch up on posts!

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:11 PM

I was wondering the same thing about the flying pizza--the incident last year? The play-by-play was great. Is that what the D-Backs announcers were discussing?

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:12 PM

Erin: yes
TG: Im not kidding, Mark "Slumpbuster" Grace almost peed his pants he was laughin so hard! They've shown it a couple times since last year and that's definitely a classic

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:13 PM

jules: yes because somehow that worked into our "key to the game" don't ask me how but it was awesome regardless

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:14 PM

We blew some early chances when Johnson was throwing hittable stuff. Not it would appear Johnson has settled in. Let's hope Wake can make do with a 1-0 lead.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:15 PM

Thanks. Key to the game is interesting, but it was great analysis.

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:16 PM

are hitters traditionally better the second/third time around the lineup vs Wake or is it not that much of a difference!

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:20 PM

oh, atta boy, waKKKKKKey!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:20 PM

WaKKKKKKey!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:21 PM

Clay's gone scoreless through 4 innings tonight for Pawtucket.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:23 PM

I wonder I Clay will up w/ the Sox again sometime soon.

[ EricaC ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:24 PM

I hope Clay makes it back soon

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:26 PM

Great throw, Cash!

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:26 PM

ladies and gentlemen, KEVIN CASH!

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:27 PM

Way to go Cashie.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:31 PM

oh hells yeah lugie!

byrnes, you are clownshoes.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:31 PM

Yeah Lugie! Now let's the rest of us get something going!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:32 PM

Joe Thurston just walked to score a run after an 11-pitch at-bat in Pawtucket, for those who care.

And Fresno State is ahead 3-0 in the final game of the CWS.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:33 PM

Oh, Jacoby.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:34 PM

Unbelievable!!!!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:34 PM

So... are they going to show the bullpen band?

Lugie!

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:34 PM

This might be a dumb question but who started the bullpin band?

Nice Lugo!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:35 PM

And the Poland Spring drums echo in the field, pumping Pleats on...

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:36 PM

YOUK. Bad, bad Youk.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:36 PM

Dammit -- someone hide the water coolers!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:37 PM

BOOOOOOOO. Youk has seriously GOT to work on that temper. It's ridiculous. His helmet has taken more beatings than Paps' water coolers.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:37 PM

awww, YOUKIE. biscuits.

i love that pedey is 3-for-3, though. nnngh.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:38 PM

Has Beckett beat up a water cooler this season yet?

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:38 PM

isn't it manny delcarmen's bullpen band (tm) .... ?

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:39 PM

I thought I had seen the worst of furniture commercials (thanks to Bob), but I was wrong. So painfully wrong...

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:40 PM

Nah, Beckett is too skilled for watercoolers. He'd go to the source. Or write about it in his diary.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:40 PM

AHA! I knew it! Totally mullet city.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:42 PM

I'm seriously wondering why were aren't trouncing these National League teams. It's a little embarrassing.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:44 PM

Josh has kicked a water cooler or two in his time, but generally, Paps is the one who massacres them.

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:46 PM

c'mon now starlight-d, we are a first-place team! ; )

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:46 PM

ladies and gentlemen, MYGLOWAL.

(i'd hit it.)

[ Dan ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:47 PM

Byrnes is really having a hard time reading those balls hit off the wall. He had one just like that last night.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:48 PM

Rachel-O, exactly my point! We're the best. Why aren't we whipping these fries.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:48 PM

holy crap, IBB to cashie? that's gotta be a first. ;D

[ Erin-2 ] says:

Yeah, but first place in the N.L. West. And barely holding onto that. There's a reason they call it the "N.L. Worst."

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:49 PM

Hmmm...that was...interesting,

Come on mossie, knock the shit out of it

[ Anonymous ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:49 PM

starlight-d: oo sorry i'm a dbacks fan! i like the sox too tho so don't shoot me!

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:51 PM

Wooo! Two runs in. Good job, Moss.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:51 PM

Oops, one in. I'm sucking at multi-tasking.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:52 PM

Anon, there will be no shooting of anything other than watercoolers. ;)

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:52 PM

Dear NESN, please show the bullpen band.

Pretty please!

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:52 PM

Jules you're still right because Mossy brought the 1st run in too

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:53 PM

b-moss with both RBIs so far! atta boy. that was a great at-bat.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:53 PM

I'm working while watching the game and when I looked up, NESN had the Sox score at 3. I blame DO ;-)

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:54 PM

Rachel-O, oh! Oops, I get it. You're a DBacks fan. My bad.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:54 PM

Doesn't Lugo always look terrified when he's at bat?

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:56 PM

He does. I'm just glad he stopped pulling at his sleeve. But I have to wonder why he stopped...they're usually so superstitious about that kind of thing. Why did he stop?

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:56 PM

haha thats ok. and as much as i love my guys, the way things have been goin lately, i really didn't expect us to come into Fenway and win a series. it has definitely been fun so far though!

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:57 PM

Baseball players are so superstitious at bat. Their rituals crack me up.

Speaking of making me laugh, the clip they keep showing of Remy's first day kills me. His voice sounds so odd.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:58 PM

Damn, Pedey! Awesome.

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:58 PM

PLEATS! He's a one-man highlight reel.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:58 PM

Nice out Pleats!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 8:58 PM

I haven't seen Lugo fidgeting with his batting gloves as much lately either. Maybe he changed superstition routines? Does he still smudge his left shoulder? I forgot to look.

I've never thought of him as looking terrified...more like he's trying to psych out the pitcher with his intense eyes because he's too little to intimidate with size. Or something like that.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:00 PM

Pedey = Web gem

:)

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:00 PM

PEDEY IS MY WEBGEM.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:00 PM

The Rays and Yankees are obliterating their National League opponents tonight. That's really what we should be seeing from the Sox, but as long as they get the win, I guess I don't really care.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:00 PM

SWEET CAROLINE...

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:01 PM

Not time for Sweet Caroline yet. Next inning.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:02 PM

8-0 PawSox in the top of the 6th and George K has 2 HRs already
[in case anyone wants to know ;) ]

[ jules ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:02 PM

Time to go make dinner and chauffeur the kidlet.

Go SOX!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:05 PM

There's always time for Sweet Caroline. (I thought it was during the stretch? No?)

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:06 PM

No, they play it between the top and bottom halves of the eighth inning. I agree, though. There's always time for it.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:07 PM

Oh, right! They do the America the Beautiful now at the stretch. Oh, well.

I wish they would release a CD of the Red Sox at bat and pitching songs. I'd buy it.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:08 PM

For the love of helmets and water, Youk, get a hit!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:10 PM

Yay for dropped balls.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:11 PM

pedey's average is all the way back up to .290.

good boy. ;D

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:12 PM

That's a good idea, actually, Starlight. The CD idea, that is.

Come on, Manny...

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:12 PM

Pitch the ball knuckle-head.

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:15 PM

how many pitchers throw as hard as their weight? geesh cruz!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:15 PM

Manny is making me sad, mang...

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:16 PM

hi, manny del!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:17 PM

This Manny is making me happy. :)

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:17 PM

manny del-K!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:18 PM

Yes, *this* Manny is very much smile producing of late.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:19 PM

Come on Vanilli!

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:19 PM

God, Showalter is hard to listen to. He has now referred to Wakefield as "Candiotti" (a former knuckleballer who now broadcasts for the D-Backs) at least twice.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:19 PM

Flying Pizza Corner witnesses an out.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:21 PM

That was beautiful.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:21 PM

manny del-KK! god, that was gorgeous.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:21 PM

Wow. Excellent, excellent inning for Delcarmen.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:21 PM

Ooooo...can we do it now?

Sweet Caroline...BA BA BA

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:22 PM

He's a lot of fun to watch.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:24 PM

Erin-2: Candiotti actually threw bp to our hitters today to get them ready for the knuckleball. clearly that helped loads

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:24 PM

I know why the DBs keep dropping the ball. It's the damn humidity. Arizona has a dry heat. Like an oven. Yeah, that's it.

God I love that Mikey Lowell. MUAH!

[ Erin ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:25 PM

Yeah, the ESPN guys mentioned that. It's what seems to have Showalter so confused.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:26 PM

The way Cruz chews....it looks like my cat hacking up a hair ball.

YES!!!!!!

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:26 PM

oh man, covelli. NICE RIP.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:27 PM

Dear God,

Am I a bad person for sometimes wishing there would be collisions in the outfield?

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:27 PM

oops forgot my name before. ahh i love this dry heat! and we have clouds for the first time in like a week!

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:27 PM

As if I needed another reason to hate Coco Crisp, now he's giving disappointed looks to Mike Lowell because Lowell had to hold up to make sure that ball wasn't going to be caught (which it almost was). Get over yourself, Crisp. No one cares if you hit a triple.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:27 PM

Coco = pleased with himself. LOL...that smile!

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:29 PM

I'm not so sure Showalter knows who plays on our team. I swear he just called Coco Drew.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:29 PM

Coco is another player I'm too impressed with...at least off the field. He's so cocky.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:30 PM

I strongly, strongly dislike Coco Crisp. I will be the happiest Red Sox fan on the planet if/when he gets traded.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:30 PM

common Cashy. Give us a nice, deep, sac fly.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:31 PM

Attention: That was NOT a pizza.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:32 PM

Will you take that instead, starlight-d?

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:32 PM

HOLY CRAP!!!!

Go CASH!!!!!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:32 PM

Oh, yeah. We love you Cashy!!!! LONG BALL BEATS SAC FLY!!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:32 PM

EEEEEEE!!!!!!!

HEEHEEHEEHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

:-D :-D :-D

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:32 PM

K-Money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:33 PM

I only WISH I could catch a ball at Fenway. That might be the same day I get hit by lightning, but it'd be worth it.

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:33 PM

wow. does this guy only start the days Wake pitches?!

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:33 PM

Oh my god...I think I might cry, I'm so proud.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:34 PM

Right before that second really hard pitch, I screamed, "GO DEEP!" I guess he heard me. :)

[ EricaC ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:34 PM

THAT was beautiful!!!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:34 PM

Yeah, but I think this is his first HR since, like, 2005 or something. Tho I may have read the screen wrong...

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:35 PM

Liza, He totally heard you. Wish I was on Lansdown St right now to collect that ball...

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:35 PM

well Cruz can join Qualls in the walking-to-miami parade!

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:36 PM

No, you're right. First HR since 2005.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:37 PM

kevin cash, up over EVERYTHING. i love it. LOVE it.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:38 PM

I just checked on it, and the last HR by Cash was when he played for the Devil Rays in 2005, and he only had 2 that year. But, hell, we love that 3 run HR.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:38 PM

I've had a soft spot for cash since the beginning of the season. My friend always calls him "your boy cash". :)

That just warmed my heart big time.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:39 PM

I like it, I love it, I want some more of it!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:39 PM

FINALLY he gets a hit.

Go Superman!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:40 PM

Does Pedey wear contacts? He's always rubbing his eyes and making funny faces to open his eyes wide.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:40 PM

"Three runs in on a cash bomb."

My favorite phrase of the night. :)

[ Rachel O ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:41 PM

that definitely wasn't a cheap shot either! Bombs away!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:42 PM

Starlight, is THAT what the deal is with Pedey? I thought it was just a facial tic.

Cash = awesome!

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:43 PM

apnea free hansen is apnea free!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:43 PM

Let's go Hansen. 1-2-3

G

!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:44 PM

ecl, I'm not sure. But I used to wear contact lenses, and I'd be rubbing at my eyes or opening them wide, that kind of thing, to get the lense to settle back in the right spot. I'd be curious to know if that's why he makes those goofy faces.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:45 PM

Come on Craig...

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:45 PM

Loved the closeup on Beckett!

Rachel, Cash is the personal catcher for Wake and the backup for Tek when (God forbid) he's sick ....

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:46 PM

Yeah, Lugo can generally *catch* the ball. It's his trowing that makes us nervous...before I realized Lowell threw the ball, i thought for sure it was Lugo that threw the ball at Youk and nailed him.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:47 PM

Missed the Beckett close up. Waaaaaaahhh.

Am I the only one that thinks THIS Drew got the looks of the family? Our Drew got the game.

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:47 PM

c'mon, apnea free hansen ...

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:48 PM

WTF was THAT? Guess I was wrong. Guess he can't field the damned ball either.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:48 PM

starlight it was on ESPN not NESN since Im in FL

Baby Drew is def cuter but I haven't seen any pictures of their other brother Tim who also plays baseball

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:49 PM

nothin' hurt, nothin' hurt -- go right after this guy, hansen.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:49 PM

That's it. ONe more!

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:50 PM

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:50 PM

hey now, hey now, c'mon now ...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:51 PM

Starlight, all I know is that when he makes those goofy faces he looks for all the world like a turtle...

Hansen is not apnea free...

[ EricaC ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:51 PM

not cool... but yay PAP

[ jenny again ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:51 PM

damnit hansen. are you kidding me?

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:51 PM

Wild Thing, I think I love you.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:51 PM

That infield hit from Hudson wasn't really Hansen's fault. He was in an awkward position and the ball was hit slowly and to a strange place. He couldn't have done much with it even if he had picked it up.

[ starlight-d ] says:
on June 25, 2008 9:52 PM

Ecl, he totally does!
