Yeah, I'm pretty distracted here. I was SUCH a good girl...went to bed on time last night, and then I didn't sleep well. I held my focus during a long intense day, and now I'm pretty spaced out! So I hope our guys provide some excitement to snap me out of it.
Thanks Ian for that update, I was just about to check. Good news that he's struggling (he's already half way over his proposed pitch count). But God, 101 on the gun!
The ovation sounded lovely on the radio. As did the announcers' description of Manny wearing a white suit on the charter flight. They quoted him as saying it was his Miami Vice suit. (grins)
Ian, I hope you're right. He got a lot of press out here (A's and Giants are covered like a local team) and wow, is he ever a whiner. Not to mention his legal issues. He was a prima-donna with his demands for the club house.
i just can't see them signing him at all if he's out only a month. even if he's out for the rest of the season, i don't see him being signed. they'd trade for someone wayyyyyyyyyyyy before ever signing bonds. plus bonds is due back in court this month.
so i live in orlando for college and the red sox game is finally on tv! and here's what the announcers talk about:
guy 1: well the rays will be going through alabama on their way back to florida
guy 2: i think they're going through georgia
guy 1: well, you can go through either depending on how travel to florida
I saw that Ian. Pedroia is so little compared to Tito. I just noticed that when he came to check on Pedroia. I know Dustin's small, but he just looked like a little small baby teddy bear.
Did anyone else catch what looked suspiciously like our own Clay Buccholz snagging a foul ball on the third base line at Yankee Stadium tonight? I know that face anywhere
Okay, Boss! I'm getting home really early tomorrow and can knock 'em out before the game. Of course, I won't be on the computer much tomorrow night, seeing as how the game is on TV here (YAY!).
I second that question, Ian. Seriously, I don't know what I would do without these threads, so thanks so much TG. I think we'd all agree that we owe you.
Yep, Ian, I know. NJ left a comment on my LJ earlier (haha) (not cool, MDC) and I just saw him on the TV.
Avery, it was Henry Chadwick who named it that way--he said that as k was the "dominant sound" in the word strike, it should be marked as a k. He was quirky and imaginative like that.
Wednesday: Showers, mainly after noon. Patchy fog after 10am. High near 64. South wind 10 to 16 mph becoming east. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: A chance of showers. Patchy fog before 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 54. North wind between 9 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
He is credited with devising the baseball box score (which he adapted from the cricket scorecard) for reporting game events. The first box score was a grid with nine rows for players and nine columns for innings. The original box scores also created the often puzzling abbreviation for strikeout as "K" - "K" being the last letter of "struck" in "struck out." The basic format and structure of the box score has changed little since the earliest of ones designed by Chadwick. He is also credited with devising such statistical measures as batting average and earned run average. Ironically, ERA originated not in the goal of measuring a pitcher's worth but to differentiate between runs caused by batting skill (hits) and lack of fielding skill (errors). He is also noted as believing fielding range to be a superior skill to avoiding errors.
Some people erroneously think it's because "S" already stood for "save" - but that's not really true. The old dead dude who invented scoring just thought the "K" sound was more memorable in association with "Struck" than the "S" sound.
So the announcers in FL are definately jealous of the attendance at Fenway because they have mentioned the consecutive sellouts and hitting the 1 million mark already in the season at least 10 times in the last 5 minutes.
Just before Hansen got to pitch to Crawford, a fan came out of the right field stands, wearing a Celtics jersey. He made it all the way across the field, evading a couple of security guards, before jumping into the box seats on the left field line. That was where they got him, leading him up the stairs to get arrested.
So for the Yanks, Joba gave up two runs in less than three innings and the bull pen has given up another six runs so far (the Jays still have two guys on base)
Sorry Ian! All my friends are Yanks fans and I can't tell them how much they are sucking right now, so I decided to post it on here. Don't worry - no more updates from me.
LOL, Liza...when I talked to my NYY partisan cousin recently (the one who doesn't know I switched sides), she whined, "We're not doin' so good right now." I managed not to burst out laughing and tell her to speak for herself.
that just might be a question for Texy? not sure....I remember the female fan running out to kiss Fernando Valenzuala on the mound....wasn't Fenway tho...and she was wasn't streaking....
Well, I knew things had to be bad when my cousin said that she doesn't watch the YES network very much these days. She said she's too tired when she gets home. Seems like that was never an issue before, LOL...
Aw thanks Ian =] Don't worry about before. Oh and I usually check Yanks and Red Sox score (if I'm not watching the game). However I'm now always checking the Rays too.
Jen, I actually SAW the K on Gameday probably not too long after it happened. That's what I was referring to. That stupid audio is way, way behind. But you're right, it's better late than never, and it's certainly better than nothing. I'm really looking forward to actually *seeing* the game tomorrow night, though!
I didn't get to see his start, but I'll watch the recap--and he now has given up all of 6 runs in 18.1 innings. Not bad at all! (Better than Joba, in any case...)
Over and out...got some other things to check out and dishes to do and REALLY need some sleep. Will check in at some point tomorrow evening, but will mostly be glued to the TV (YAY!). Have great evenings, everyone.

Ok people now that i've made the first comment starting your writing.
