Ellen, at this point I'd trade with you. 90 and humid is more than I can handle, especially this early in the season. When it's in the 50s one can layer up. In the 90s...one suffers.
Well, yeah. But they make such a big deal about replay and the need for it, and talk about how they have the luxury of looking at replays while the umps do not, and then they show one sh*tty angle, and that's it.
I wish I could watch NESN. But I have been far away from my home for three weeks now, and therefore far away from my Extra Innings package. I've been dealing with crappy MLB.tv (not the greatest internet connection in my hotel), so I'm just happy to see the Sox on something bigger than my 13" laptop screen.
For replay to even work, it all depends on how many cameras they have following the ball at one time and from how many angles they're coming... in reality replay won't help unless they have the correct angle to view which means more cameras, more cameramen and more money... plus cameras don't show in 3D
personally im still on the fence about replay because even with it, they still might not have had a decisive answer for Pleat's HR
I guess with the exception of this one tonight, although I know I've seen better angles of calls near the Pesky Pole, so I don't know where those cameras were tonight.
...did ESPN say the Astros were trying to remain "relevant?" Is it just me, or is that an unusual word choice? I suppose it works, but it sounded a bit weird...
Here's a random question--anyone recently traveled to England with a pet, or know the rules for quarantine there? I heard they lifted the requirement for quarantine, but finding solid info is a little bit difficult.
Yeah, the overseas plans are a little iffy right now. Maybe going there if my girlfriend takes a job that would require her to be in England for a while. But I'm currently sitting in a hotel room in Chicago, and I live in Los Angeles.
I'll be interested to see how Bruce adjusts once teams get a real scouting report on him. I'm sure he'll figure it out, but it will be interesting to see if anyone learns how to pitch to him.
Mihashi can! Except he's kind of fictional. According to Wikipedia, Daisuke has one...if he throws something that looks kind of like a reverse slider, then that might be his shuuto.
Brett Myers has a no-hitter in Philly. I know you're a Phllies' fan, TG, but I'm jinxing him now because of that whole "beating his wife" thing. Just doesn't feel right to root for him.
I've been out at the same bars as he and his wife, and she is a bitch on wheels. And yet, he still manages to be a bigger ass than she is - and that is no mean feat. So I take your point.
Ooh, they're talking about the draft! I'm going to try to live-blog the first round on ESPN...I'm so stoked! (...and please, let the Sox get Paramore...)
Ugh. Not hearing Remy and Don kills me. I'm going to try to deal with MLB.tv tomorrow, and see if it will be a little better. I have to hear those guys soon. I'm suffering.
Well, I don't know the first thing about Brett Myers, but I looked up the wife-beating story, then read Texy's comment about what they're like at bars. They both sound like real pieces of work. Sounds like I'm not missing much by not knowing anything about him.
I'm not a fan of shopping either. I do enjoy browsing in bookstores and CD stores, and that's about it. Clothes shopping is something to be done only when very necessary.
I'm sure his wife is a piece of work, since they both seem trashy, which is not to say she was asking for it, either. Frankly, anyone who hits his/her significant other should be arrested.
I had this weird experience when I was sixteen, when a woman called my personal line thinking it was a battered women's help line. She was crying and freaking out about her husband coming home any minute, and she was too scared to call 911. So, I got her number and called for her, and the 911 operator called me back to let me know the cops got to the woman's house and got her to safety. Long story short, wife beating stories tend to be a little sensitive for me, even though it hasn't technically affected me personally.
Yeah, it was pretty crazy. I was way too young for that responsibility! :) But I have always wondered what happened with that lady in the end. I never got her name.
I almost wonder if the help line wouldn't have called and gotten her help as fast as you did? Like, if maybe their protocols and procedures would've gotten in the way.
ESPN was talking about the draft earlier, too. And I am so, so stoked. ...I'm really hoping for Paramore, what with SoxProspects.com even hinting at a potential link between him and the Sox. Imagine if he could get some tutelage from Tek...
Okay, those photos were gorgeous - I really, really want to go to Spring Training even more now. And JED. (Also, you got a shot of Chris Carter, too, and that makes my inner Stanford geek all happy...)
Steph, glad you enjoyed... Im trying desperately with no luck to get a time share for next year near Fort Myers so we don't have to go back to Fort Lauderdale and have a 2 hour drive back and forth
They'll definitely show this one on Baseball Tonight on ESPN later. It was WEIRD. Coco got caught in a rundown between third and home because he overran third, and he ended up trying to dive under Navarro to get to home. The umpire called him out, though, when he sort of awkwardly tripped Navarro with the dive...
A timeshare in Fort Myers? That would rock! We have a family friend with a condo down there (that I might, er, borrow on Spring Break one year)...I need to get her to go and see them for me.
Erin, that's quite a story -- good for you for helping that woman!
I thought Coco should have scored, seeing as how there was nothing in Barlett's glove. Steph, I'm with you, I hated to miss his at-bat. I get such a kick out of him. That scrunchy little old man expression that he does...just cracks me up.
Steph, I got a picture of Chris Carter in the dugout last night, but didn't realize it was him until I could check the online roster...didn't know who 51 was.
Some guy sitting near us tried to tell me it was Aardsma, and I asked him if he knew where the bullpen was and who sat there. :)
Yeah, Aardsma's not 51...nor does he have hair. You got a picture of Chris, though? Awesome. I can't wait to see him start hitting! He's got a great bat and I am contractually obliged to like him because he went to Stanford.
Also, I have to say, that Bob's "anti-gimmick" commercial pisses me off. Like... if you repeat constantly that you're anti-gimmick, that's kind of a gimmick.
My dad called today-he's going to the celtics game tomorrow. How he got tickets, I don't know. I'm not a big celtics fan, but I know a bunch of you guys are, so I thought I'd share.
Avery - he got pissy and started yelling in the umpire's face. Then he was thrown out, proceeded to slam his helmet in the ground, and finally left after a team mate (or manager?) walked him back to the dugout.
!!! Opinions from the assembled. Was Coco trying to break the 2nd baseman's ankle? The ESPN announcers have been ranting about it throughout Jacoby's at-bat.
Yeah, that's what I heard on ESPN - that it was clearly intentional. I'm hoping Coco just made a mistake there and slid too late, but from one angle it looked like a clear shot at Iwamura.
I guess I missed the replay of the confrontation when I came in here to catch up on the thread. Last I saw, Lugo was walking out of the batter's box muttering to himself.
Aw thanks Di. I always struggle with speaking portions even though I'm pretty good at Spanish. Last year my teacher told me to go on meds before I take another speaking test because I was so nervous.
wanna hear something cute? and also indicative of our advertising-influenced culture? watching the game a few nights ago with my 5 year old nephew, he said, "are the red sox playing the Bank of America team?" (and he can't even read yet!)
ESPN is still perseverating about Coco. That and retaliation by the Rays.
Liza, Di and Jessi, I'm amazed how much I can understand just by trying to read Spanish. Looks like translating questionnaires at work is teaching me something.
Ian, you'll have to keep us posted about the Coco situation too. Geez, it didn't look like much when I saw it, really it didn't. It's not like they took time away from Lugo's at-bat to deal with it, other than Coco dusting himself off and leaving the field.
Yeah, the more I see of it, the less intentional it looked...I initially thought it was a take-out attempt, but he was stealing, not trying to beat out a double play, so it's more likely to be accidental...
