Just popping in for a moment to say hey. Won't be home and on line for close to an hour. Looking forward to hanging out with y'all when I get back here.
I might be alone on this, but I think Crisp is a bit of a thug. I've never really liked him personally (I have stories), and this is sort of sealing the deal.
Given the comments yesterday about Crawford's knee, a shot to the head isn't necessary (or recommended). Just hit him in the leg and he'll be out for a while.
Coco got hit in the leg, and instead of taking it, he decided to charge the mound. Coco has been wrong in this thing all along, and this just makes it worse. His teammates have to come out to defend him, so now he's earned some suspensions for his teammates, too. Way to go, ass.
Hey guys! Just walked in the house. turned on SportsCenter, and here "Coco Crisp rushed the mound and threw a punch" WHAT HAPPENED?! I can't believe I missed it!
Navarro was only doing his job. He gets a free pass. Gomes, Iwamura, and Crawford? Screw them. Ganging up like that is shitty especially with teh head punches of Crawford.
Word, piney. Navarro is cool. Gomes and Crawford need to get the BOOT. Crawford, especially- everyone here has heard me rail about what a douche he is.
No question that the Rays went a little overboard, but Crisp brought all of this on himself by behaving like a child from the beginning. Everyone acted like an immature brat, but Coco absolutely led the way.
Well this day has certainly been um interesting - I pretty much bombed my Spanish speaking final, almost got hit by this huge pickup truck, and now a Sox brawl.
Brawls are a part of baseball, they happen. I just hate it when people fight dirty. Did Coco act mature? Oh hell no. I'll openly admit homeboy went crazy and should've just manned up and went to first. However, the human aspect of teh game and the idea of vengeance comes into play. I like brawls. They're a part of baseball and it's fun to see poeple get all pissed off.
It's just the cheapshots that piss me off.
Also I think retalliation only comes if there's a sizeable lead in the game. I don't think Lester is THAT stupid(I hope)
I'm often alone in my opinion that brawls absolutely should not be a part of baseball. I hate them, and I think they everyone involved look like incredibly ridiculous babies. Retaliation wouldn't be necessary if someone didn't start something first. It's all absurd. And in this case, it was especially unnecessary, because Crisp was wrong to get so pissed about Bartlett blocking the base. He thought he needed to retaliate, and he did in a big way. And then he asked for them to hit him. Fine. Let them do it, if that's what you want. But when you charge the mound, you immediately endanger your entire team, and that's just not cool.
I think Lester's smarter than to hit someone.
He knows he's gonna get thrown out if he does, and he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do that; he's not Beckett XD
Well...I see I have some catching up to do. All this action while I was stuck at work and then dealing with the blue screen of death when I powered up here at home.
I just saw the video on Gameday. Such an overreaction, and I can bet that Coco (and everyone else involved) will regret it. I'm used to the "brawls" when they just push each other, but this was... a lot. And don't they play like 19 times this season? I wonder if it'll carry out. But yes, I agree, Lester is smart and I doubt he'll retaliate.
Liza, I'll have to watch the replay a few dozen more times. It was such chaos that I couldn't see much of what our guys were doing, other than Lugo trying to pull Rays away from the fight. Mostly all I saw was piles of Rays.
hi All...I just turned on the game after a long day. Score is good, but I just heard that Jacoby is hurt. wow. And a brawl? I need to catch up, but still have work to do.
I am so glad that I'm taping this game for my mom who is "out with the girls" so maybe I can watch this all again and find out what the hell is going on.....
Why couldn't THIS be the game that's on ESPN? Guess I'll be watching the archived game this weekend.
Yanno, today I said to the guy in the next cube that it must be a full moon (nope) because things are really haywire at work. Of course, it's 90+ weather and a high-stress time of year at our office. The same cannot be said of the game in Boston. What's gotten into them?
PawSox first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss has been removed from Pawtucket's game in Charlotte. He was serving as the DH when he was taken out in third inning.
Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury suffered a strained right wrist in the fourth inning at Fenway Park tonight and was removed from the game. Coco Crisp was ejected for charging the mound after getting hit by a pitch in the second inning.
So, it's a safe bet Moss will be on his way to Boston.
I was super excited about Petey Paramore (as I think I may have mentioned once or twice or a million times). He was taken by the A's, though (which makes sense--he's a total Billy Beane type).
Hey, y'all....got the XM fired up tonight....last night I was in power outage darkness until 11:00 pm...missed all of ESPN = WAH!
How's Jacoby? XM said x-ray was negative.
Now, I know I have been MIA for a while..but I can't feed a newborn, round up 3 other kids, and watch a game in peace...let alone comment as I watch....BUT...what in the world is going on tonight? Did I just see that right? Did Manny bitch slap Youk???
And let's see. Manny started off the night with a 3-run homer. Coco got hit by a pitch in the second, charged the mound, and got ejected along with Shields, the Rays' starter, and Gomes. Jacoby rolled his right hand over his glove sliding to make a catch in the fourth and strained his hand (above the thumb). By this point Chris Carter is in left, JD Drew is in center, and Youk is in right (after supposedly having the night off), with Casey at first. Manny, who's DHing, seemed to have some words with Youk between innings, then it looked like he slapped him, you're right. At the next inning's break, Don and Remy start mock-fighting and, of course, hilarity ensues. Next time Manny gets up, he hurts his hamstrings dodging a pitch, but walks, and is pinch-ran for by Kevin Cash, who had to run in from the bullpen, where he was warming guys up. Meanwhile, Chris Carter is so far 2-for-3 in his major league career, with a good 8 or 9 total bases and two runs scored.
so since i dont get the Red Sox games and Im a huge Celtics fan, Im watching the game and there's a commercial on ABC for a new reality show....
I survived a Japanese game show
I really just dont get it
Thanks, Liza.
My house is in total chaos. A newborn, a two year old, a 4 year old, and a 6.5 year old. What the F was I thinking???? I'm as close to a nervous breakdown as I ever have been!!!
Danielle, I saw that commercial too! Have you ever seen japanese game shows? They are ridiculously weird. Search for Human Tetris or the marshmellow one on youtube. :)
LOL starr...Ian has posted the big fight. The Manny-Youk thing is unknown at this time. Jacoby made a great catch but bent his wrist very awkwardly (I can't describe it because I didn't see it).
Thank you for the videos, Texy, Ian and Gameday. Thank you loyal and accurate game thread folks for filling in the details, which I sped read through so I'm as up to date as possible.
I wasn't able to comment during the game because I'm studying for finals and I knew I would be way too distracted if I came here, but that has to be one of the weirdest games ever.
Short recap of interview: He sounded pretty excited. He has a game ball, which made him happy. They asked him if anyone was injured in the madness tonight. He said Coco is a bit scratched up but he's alright. He said he talked to Jacoby, who said he felt fine. It wasn't very long, but you could tell he was excited.
Across town the cheer roared after seeing Coco charging the mound then the score of the game and John Henry sitting along the baseline according to the Celtics Blog
I just watched the Manny/Youk fight on ESPN, and they're just as flabbergasted as we are. They had a pretty nice recap on all of the madness to make it somewhat understandable, so you might want to watch that when you get a chance.
Well I just found out it was weirder than I knew.
I had no idea about the thing between Youk & Manny - scanning comments for clues on what that was about.

Sox have a shortstop and a RHP so far in the draft.
Anyone know if there's a reliable, up-to-the-minute draft-tracking program online, other than MLB.com's? That one makes my computer freeze.
