Sox have a shortstop and a RHP so far in the draft.

Anyone know if there's a reliable, up-to-the-minute draft-tracking program online, other than MLB.com's? That one makes my computer freeze.

[ Liza ] says:

Oh my god. GENIUS Mass Lottery commercial. Video goodness? Pretty please?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 5:47 PM

Of course!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 5:49 PM

Thank you! Whoever came up with that is amazing.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 5:53 PM

Everyone saw the giant spelling error in the Red Sox Nation commercial, right? I think that deserves a post all to itself.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:00 PM

Just popping in for a moment to say hey. Won't be home and on line for close to an hour. Looking forward to hanging out with y'all when I get back here.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:01 PM

YAY! NESN on mlbtv!!!!

Hey everyone!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:04 PM

TG - In which commercial? I don't really watch that closely...

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:12 PM

which rsn commercial has the spelling error? and what mass lottery ad did i miss. i'm late to the party since i was trying to get my tv tuner updated.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:13 PM

and no i won't steal your idea :D

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:15 PM

I'm cracking up at the bat. Pleats accidentally tossed it when he got hit and it smacked the ump on the helmet.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:16 PM

JD is freakin' HOT right now.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:18 PM

Manny!!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:18 PM

ummmmmmmmmmm that was crushed

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:21 PM

Yay Sean!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:29 PM

Just leaving the office. It would figure that when I'm not home to "watch" the game as it happens, Manny would go yard again. Replays here I come...

See you all in a few.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:34 PM

So is anyone else actually... here?

Crap, Lester. Cmon.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:36 PM

Weird inning for Lester so far. Two outs followed by three straight hits, one of which scored that run. He needs to settle down.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:39 PM

Well this is interesting.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:40 PM

Holy crap.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:40 PM

I might be alone on this, but I think Crisp is a bit of a thug. I've never really liked him personally (I have stories), and this is sort of sealing the deal.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:41 PM

well well

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:42 PM

These Rays like brawling. Huh. Feisty little things.

Wow, that almost hit him in the balls.

Jeez--they all started punching each other. It wasn't just Shields and Coco, it's everyone else.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:42 PM

coco had like 4 guys on top of him

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:42 PM

I also don't get fans applauding the behavior overall. The whole thing is stupid. Don't cheer for this nonsense.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:43 PM

i hope someone fucking nails carl crawford in the head

[ Kara ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:43 PM

Well, this game just got interesting.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:43 PM

Hah. Shields is gone too.

I guess Jacoby goes to center and Chris Carter goes into left?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:44 PM

Seconded, Ian.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:44 PM

Both these teams are going to have a few suspensions. Crisp should have known better, since we need all our outfielders.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:45 PM

Given the comments yesterday about Crawford's knee, a shot to the head isn't necessary (or recommended). Just hit him in the leg and he'll be out for a while.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:46 PM

Hey so could someone explain what happened..... Im in FL with no visual just Gameday which only says on field delay

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:46 PM

there will be a lot of suspensions on guys who dont get ejected in the days coming.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:47 PM

coco got hit. charged the mound. big brawl

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:48 PM

lovely... no surprise though after last night

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:48 PM

Coco got hit in the leg, and instead of taking it, he decided to charge the mound. Coco has been wrong in this thing all along, and this just makes it worse. His teammates have to come out to defend him, so now he's earned some suspensions for his teammates, too. Way to go, ass.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:49 PM

i think i saw justin masterson in the middle of that trying to pull guys off unless that bald head was brad mills

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:49 PM

Ian, that was definitely Masterson. Mills isn't that big.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:50 PM

Is Navarro not ejected? You didn't need a replay to see that he should be the first one ejected.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:51 PM

Hey guys! Just walked in the house. turned on SportsCenter, and here "Coco Crisp rushed the mound and threw a punch" WHAT HAPPENED?! I can't believe I missed it!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:51 PM

*hear (not here)

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:51 PM

If Lester hits a guy tonight, I will be pissed. These are grown men out there, right? Could any of them consider growing up?

[ Kelly ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:51 PM

Damn Navarro...I'm so mad he isn't getting kicked outta the game!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:52 PM

Navarro was only doing his job. He gets a free pass. Gomes, Iwamura, and Crawford? Screw them. Ganging up like that is shitty especially with teh head punches of Crawford.

This game will be interesting

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:52 PM

Holding down Crisp might have been Navarro's job. Throwing four punches to his head certainly was not.

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:52 PM

Can someone give a little summary of the changes now? Like who's ejected etc?

That was about 8000000 shades of unnecessary. 3 guys on Coco punching him is just not right.

Even Julio Lugo getting punched.....are you for real??

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:53 PM

Word, piney. Navarro is cool. Gomes and Crawford need to get the BOOT. Crawford, especially- everyone here has heard me rail about what a douche he is.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:53 PM

Aw, Jacoby tried to pull them all away. And is it just me or did a whole bunch of guys get all over DeMarlo Hale?

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:54 PM

My mistake. Gomes was throwing those punches, not Navarro.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:54 PM

Hey everyone. Wow this is an interesting game so far. Did Gomes get kicked out of the game?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:54 PM

One good thing that comes out of this?

CHRIS CARTER'S MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT (running for Coco)!

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:54 PM

Ok, please tell me that the Rays aren't so low that they would get all over poor, amazing Sean Casey.....

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:55 PM

if lester hits someone, he might get ejected since i'm sure they were warned now.

plus what a way for Chris Carter to make his debut

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:55 PM

Ok I'm caught up and I hope Lester nails someone.

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:55 PM

Just got here :) Ian or TG, will one of you guys have video of Coco being ejected later? You two are the best...

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:56 PM

No question that the Rays went a little overboard, but Crisp brought all of this on himself by behaving like a child from the beginning. Everyone acted like an immature brat, but Coco absolutely led the way.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:56 PM

The Sox got a high school shortstop in the second round. (WHY?)

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:57 PM

Well this day has certainly been um interesting - I pretty much bombed my Spanish speaking final, almost got hit by this huge pickup truck, and now a Sox brawl.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:59 PM

Chris Carter just scored his first major league run!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 6:59 PM

Of course. I'll put up video soon.

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:00 PM

Thanks TG. Chris Carter is cute.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:02 PM

Brawls are a part of baseball, they happen. I just hate it when people fight dirty. Did Coco act mature? Oh hell no. I'll openly admit homeboy went crazy and should've just manned up and went to first. However, the human aspect of teh game and the idea of vengeance comes into play. I like brawls. They're a part of baseball and it's fun to see poeple get all pissed off.

It's just the cheapshots that piss me off.

Also I think retalliation only comes if there's a sizeable lead in the game. I don't think Lester is THAT stupid(I hope)

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:02 PM

Avery - he definitely is! Especially when he smiles...

Here's the commercial! ...and they cut it off.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:05 PM

I'm often alone in my opinion that brawls absolutely should not be a part of baseball. I hate them, and I think they everyone involved look like incredibly ridiculous babies. Retaliation wouldn't be necessary if someone didn't start something first. It's all absurd. And in this case, it was especially unnecessary, because Crisp was wrong to get so pissed about Bartlett blocking the base. He thought he needed to retaliate, and he did in a big way. And then he asked for them to hit him. Fine. Let them do it, if that's what you want. But when you charge the mound, you immediately endanger your entire team, and that's just not cool.

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:05 PM

I think Lester's smarter than to hit someone.
He knows he's gonna get thrown out if he does, and he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do that; he's not Beckett XD

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:06 PM

Correction: ...they *make* everyone involved...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:08 PM

Well...I see I have some catching up to do. All this action while I was stuck at work and then dealing with the blue screen of death when I powered up here at home.

(running to see who is in, who is out)...

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:10 PM

I just saw the video on Gameday. Such an overreaction, and I can bet that Coco (and everyone else involved) will regret it. I'm used to the "brawls" when they just push each other, but this was... a lot. And don't they play like 19 times this season? I wonder if it'll carry out. But yes, I agree, Lester is smart and I doubt he'll retaliate.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:10 PM

THE A'S TOOK PETEY PARAMORE.

Oh well--it's not the Sox, but it's a team I like!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:11 PM

Sorry, that wasn't really relevant--but I had to say it.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:12 PM

Well all I can say is wow I watched it twice on Gameday... that went a bit farther than I expected

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:12 PM

Bryan Price is ADORABLE.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:13 PM

video is uploading on my end right now.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:17 PM

i will say this. it was mighty stupid of him to charge the mound. he got in the leg. at least shields didn't go for his head.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:18 PM

I have to say it's really funny that gameday calls it the Rays-Sox "incident".... but after a long day like today anything seems funny

Oh and here's the link to my ST photos. I know I put this link up last night but everyone that loves Chris Carter, his pic is 2nd to last in the album

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2282911&l=5d133&id=5125911

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:18 PM

great catch by jacoby. let's hope he's ok since we don't have an extra outfielder now because of coco.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:19 PM

Jacoby!!!

Is he ok....?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:19 PM

Just watched it for the first time. It's amazing that no one was seriously injured in all that pile of punching. Geez. Bad news.

Lovely catch, Jacoby!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:19 PM

YEEOW. He had better be okay.

Shit shit shit shit shit.

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:19 PM

Injury delay? AHHH

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:20 PM

It was his right hand. He's flexing and grimacing.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:20 PM

The replay sure makes it look like Ellsbury is seriously hurt. His wrist was not meant to do what it did.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:21 PM

Shit shit shit shit shit

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:21 PM

Crap! He's coming out right now.
Apparently it's the area above his thumb?

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:21 PM

Nooo Jacoby

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:21 PM

Oh no...what did he just do to himself? I'm about in tears here...

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:22 PM

And now Crisp looks like an even bigger idiot.

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:22 PM

Man. Youk's playing outfield!!

Hopefully hopefully it's a one or two day thing.

[ choco ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:22 PM

oh crap!

not only is he hurt but we don't really have any extra outfielders...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:22 PM

Thank goodness for Youk.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:23 PM

Ok my day officially just got worse.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:23 PM

And...better Youk than moving Lugo out there.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:24 PM

Ecl, his wrist rolled over his glove as he dived to make the catch. It definitely could be broken. (big knocks on wood)

With Coco almost certainly suspended, a whole bunch of other guy possibly suspended, and Jacoby out, we might lose like half the team here.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:24 PM

Mine too, Jessi, and it was already pretty darned bad to start with. Dang, my head hurts...

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:25 PM

according to extra bases, gomes was ejected as well

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:25 PM

Liza, who else may possibly get suspended?

Can't even picture wrist rolling over glove. Is that humanly possible?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:27 PM

Ecl, I didn't mean anything in particular by it, I was just saying it was possible.

And yeah. It looked pretty friggin' painful.

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:27 PM

Not good....
Focus Lester!

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:27 PM

Didn't Drew hurt himself the same way a few weeks ago?

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:28 PM

This outfield isn't exactly inspiring my confidence right now.

[ Erin-2 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:28 PM

Ellsbury's looked way worse than Drew's. Doesn't mean it is, but it looked that way.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:29 PM

Erin, I think it was similar. Yeeowch.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:29 PM

Liza, I'll have to watch the replay a few dozen more times. It was such chaos that I couldn't see much of what our guys were doing, other than Lugo trying to pull Rays away from the fight. Mostly all I saw was piles of Rays.

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:32 PM

Not a good day. I keep watching hte replay too, and I've mostly seen Rays. But AHH

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:32 PM

3b coach demarlo hale had a nice tackle of shields

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:33 PM

I thought I saw DeMarlo get in there at one point.

I'm also not having the greatest day ever. Sigh.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:33 PM

They're surely going to suspend Crawford, too. They can't eject and suspend Gomes and not suspend Carl "I'm A Douchebag" Crawford.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:36 PM

Chris Carter yaaay!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:37 PM

Carter!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:37 PM

Agreed, TG.

Chris is batting 1.000! :D

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:37 PM

Alright Carter!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:37 PM

1st AB, 1st hit. have to like that

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:37 PM

First hit!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:38 PM

AWWW! He's smiling!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:38 PM

most definitely crawford will get suspended once they look at the tapes.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:38 PM

To clarify, Chris doesn't seem to smile very often when there are cameras around him.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:39 PM

Sweet -- way to go Chris!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:39 PM

Yeah, a hit for Lugie!

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:41 PM

Yay. balfour must be an awful name for a pitcher.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:41 PM

LOL, lulu!

Catching up on replays...that was one heck of a long ball from Manny!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:42 PM

X-rays negative for Jacoby. Sprained wrist. Per WRKO.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:43 PM

Thanks, Ecl. NESN hasn't said anything and the Globe doesn't have anything either yet.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:43 PM

So how long could he be out for then?

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:44 PM

Thank you ecl - my day now is slightly less worse.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:44 PM

You're welcome, Liza. I should qualify that by saying that they stated it was preliminary. More info to come after official exam, I guess.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:44 PM

Ohhh. That was a HUGE hit.

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:46 PM

hi All...I just turned on the game after a long day. Score is good, but I just heard that Jacoby is hurt. wow. And a brawl? I need to catch up, but still have work to do.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:47 PM

Yep - definitely not broken, just a sprain/strain.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:48 PM

Okay JD, you know what to Drew...

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:48 PM

strained wrist

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:51 PM

(holds breath)

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:52 PM

the sox have drafted two more pitchers so far. one from University of Utah and one from Notre dame

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:53 PM

I'll take it!

Wow--Carter's 1 for 1 in the majors with 2 runs on 7 total bases. That's a strange line for sure.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:53 PM

Hey, I'll take it!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:53 PM

Okay Manny, make me smile...

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:56 PM

YESSS

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:56 PM

what makes that line even better liza is that he only has one official plate appearance.

Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnny. 5 RBIs

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:57 PM

YAHOOOO :D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:57 PM

Good work, Manuel!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:57 PM

MANNY - 7 runs in 4 innings even w/o Papi

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:57 PM

and now the beat LA chants start

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:58 PM

That too.

C'mon Mikey...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:58 PM

5 RBIs, and his BA has crept back over 300.

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 7:59 PM

*does happy dance*

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:00 PM

"Here, Bucky has a middle name."

HAHAHAHA... I mean.

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:01 PM

Youk and Manny fighting? WTH?

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:02 PM

great now manny and youk fighting in the dugout

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:02 PM

Whoa, what? Manny and Youk? That is STRANGE.

But yay Carter!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:02 PM

Wtf, Manny?

This is one hell of a game.

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:03 PM

Manny?!?!?!? That was weird. Who spiked the Gatorade?

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:03 PM

what's happening??? I'm listening on the radio.
Manny's mad?

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:03 PM

Yeah Carter!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:04 PM

Isn't that the same exact catch he made a minute ago?

Carter is definitely impressing.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:04 PM

i'll take that from Lester since it hit Crawford even if it wasn't on purpose

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:04 PM

This place sure gone crazy........

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:04 PM

Crawford hit. Hackles go up all around the ballpark...

It wasn't intentional, for those without TV. It was supposed to be a breaking ball away.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:05 PM

Wait a minute? Manny and Youk fighting?

Ow that must've hurt...haha Rays don't too happy.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:05 PM

lulu no one really knows what happened. you could see youk say to casey what was all that about

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:05 PM

Yeah, it was a curveball.
Wow, that was fast.

wait, what happened in the dugout?

[ lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:06 PM

oh, okay. thanks

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:06 PM

Fighting? Or play fighting? I can't imagine Manny getting into a fight with anyone...

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:07 PM

I am so glad that I'm taping this game for my mom who is "out with the girls" so maybe I can watch this all again and find out what the hell is going on.....

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:07 PM

oh it was real. Manny had to be restrained and brought into the runway

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:08 PM

This game is crazy on so many levels

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:10 PM

you have to love don and jerry. that was pretty fahkin funny

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:10 PM

HAHAHAHAHA. Don and Remy are amazing.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:10 PM

May I request a tape of the Manny-Youk fight.

Oh god now the announcers are fighting haha.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:11 PM

orsillo: what do you mean. i'm in fantastic shape. lean and mean

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:12 PM

I am going to have 100000 videos to post tonight. This game is insanity. In the very best way.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:12 PM

jessi honestly you don't see anything on the tape other than being restrained.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:13 PM

Thanks TG! Jesus I wish Upton had gotten thrown out.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:13 PM

Why couldn't THIS be the game that's on ESPN? Guess I'll be watching the archived game this weekend.

Yanno, today I said to the guy in the next cube that it must be a full moon (nope) because things are really haywire at work. Of course, it's 90+ weather and a high-stress time of year at our office. The same cannot be said of the game in Boston. What's gotten into them?

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:13 PM

tell me about it texy

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:13 PM

Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance, TG.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:14 PM

I second that, Liza. Texy rocks!

[ Ellen ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:14 PM

I just had to pop in and say that this game is possibly the weirdest I've ever seen.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:14 PM

TG- Thanks in advance for putting up videos from tonights game.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:15 PM

A little more clarification from WRKO about Jacoby...the sprain is just above the thumb.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:15 PM

carter 2-for-2

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:15 PM

2-for-2!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:15 PM

Oh ok sorry, I was gone for a few minutes and didn't know.

CARTER

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:16 PM

And he's STILL batting 1.000!

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:16 PM

Go Carter!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:20 PM

Finally watched the replay of Jacoby's catch. That hurt to watch.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:22 PM

i guess i shouldn't say i have the fight video up

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:24 PM

*****crickets chirping*****

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:26 PM

Thank you Ian!

[ Mary ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:26 PM

You can tell he's trying to not let loose on Lester....

Please don't break him X(

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:30 PM

Ah -- 10-minute clip. Will watch it after the game. Thanks, Ian!

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:36 PM

Upton is sure good out there in CF. Unfortunately.

I'm working off some notes I took in a meeting this afternoon and can't make sense of an abbreviation I wrote down! ugh!

Woah, Lester. Boy, things are tense in Fenway, eh?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:36 PM

Ian- always stealing my thunder. Sigh.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:37 PM

Jules...look at it in context. But you probably already tried that, right?

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:37 PM

I like Lester's approach to this - almost hit em then strike out.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:38 PM

from extra bases:

PawSox first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss has been removed from Pawtucket's game in Charlotte. He was serving as the DH when he was taken out in third inning.

Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury suffered a strained right wrist in the fourth inning at Fenway Park tonight and was removed from the game. Coco Crisp was ejected for charging the mound after getting hit by a pitch in the second inning.

So, it's a safe bet Moss will be on his way to Boston.

[ Avery ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:38 PM

This is a long game. But I'm back :)

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:39 PM

Summary of Red Sox draft picks so far:

Casey Kelly, SS, Sarasota HS (FL)
Bryan Price, RHP, Rice University
Derrik Gibson, SS, Seaford HS (DE)
Stephen Fife, RHP, University of Utah
Kyle Weiland, RHP, Notre Dame
Peter Hissey, CF, Unionville HS (PA)
Ryan Westmoreland, CF, Portsmouth HS (RI)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:39 PM

Good lookin' out, Ian -- thanks for the info!

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:39 PM

ecl, not really! It was a meeting to figure out a complicated workflow and I jotted it down thinking I'd remember. ha! So here I am...CL...CL...WTH?

Yeah, watching the game won't help, but it makes me feel better.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:39 PM

This game has me nervous. :|

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:40 PM

I've seen both Bryan Price and Kyle Welland play - both are solid picks.

[ jules ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:41 PM

Another hit batter. Wow.

Well, I better get back to work. My husband is sweet enough to go out to pick up the kidlet so I can get some work done, so I should do it.

Go Sox!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:41 PM

I was super excited about Petey Paramore (as I think I may have mentioned once or twice or a million times). He was taken by the A's, though (which makes sense--he's a total Billy Beane type).

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:42 PM

Well, jules, unless it's medical, I'm as lost as you are, I'm afraid...

[ Katherine ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:49 PM

Is there going to be a full moon or something? What's with all the drama?

Good to see Timlin's doing well, though.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:49 PM

i'm sorry texy. i really am. I won't say anything anymore. You know i really don't like to step on your toes.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:50 PM

GOOD, Timlin.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:51 PM

Katherine, I already checked for full moonage. Nope. That will occur on 6/22. So it must be something else...

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:55 PM

Manny, this is NOT FUNNY.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:57 PM

Please no? Please no...no...no...

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:57 PM

Please don't tell me that we have lost three outfielders in one night?

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:59 PM

NO

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 8:59 PM

This is NOT looking good. At all.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:01 PM

I don't want to jinx anyone by listing who is still healthy on this team, but this is getting weirder by the minute.

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:01 PM

Oh no I missed it? What happened to Manny?

They said it was precautionary...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:01 PM

Good work, Mayor!

[ Katherine ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:03 PM

Welcome to Bizarro World.

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:03 PM

How many more things can happen in this game?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:04 PM

Aww, Carter's batting average just shrunk to .667.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:04 PM

it looked like manny's knee buckled on the swing. it was actually the rays catcher who called for tito to come out.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:05 PM

have i been banned??? my last comment didn't show up :((

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:06 PM

phewwww.

now that was just strange. i even refreshed.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:06 PM

The Sox just took catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Yale.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:08 PM

Jeez--Lavarnway led the entire NCAA in batting average in 2007. He hit .467.

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:12 PM

yay, a catcher.

What happened to manny?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:15 PM

Manny's hamstrings were bugging him after he moved out of the way of a pitch. He walked and Cash came in.

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:15 PM

Hey, y'all....got the XM fired up tonight....last night I was in power outage darkness until 11:00 pm...missed all of ESPN = WAH!
How's Jacoby? XM said x-ray was negative.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:20 PM

(wiping sweat from brow)...

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:21 PM

is that the mass lottery commercial y'all were talking about?

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:23 PM

Yep, Ian.

Did Manny... slap Youk?

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:23 PM

wow!!!! manny got a shot in on youk in the dugout during that skirmish

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:24 PM

WTF? Hope you'll post that too. That is just bizarre with a capital B.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:24 PM

these are going to be some fun games the rest of the season between these two teams.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:24 PM

Is it just me or has about half of each team been hit by a pitch today?

[ shark ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:24 PM

Now, I know I have been MIA for a while..but I can't feed a newborn, round up 3 other kids, and watch a game in peace...let alone comment as I watch....BUT...what in the world is going on tonight? Did I just see that right? Did Manny bitch slap Youk???

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:26 PM

yes shark he bitch slapped him.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:27 PM

big dilemma.

postgame show or celtics game

[ shark ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:29 PM

Holy Moly! Does anyone know WHY?

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:29 PM

There's at least a few other games in the NBA finals - go for the postgame show.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:30 PM

nope but i'm sure we'll find out why after the game unless they all decide not to talk about it.

[ shark ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:30 PM

Ian, did you hear about the little girl who was hit and killed on Whalley Ave.? Her sister was in my class this year. So very sad.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:32 PM

Hey shark! A newborn? Congrats! :)

And let's see. Manny started off the night with a 3-run homer. Coco got hit by a pitch in the second, charged the mound, and got ejected along with Shields, the Rays' starter, and Gomes. Jacoby rolled his right hand over his glove sliding to make a catch in the fourth and strained his hand (above the thumb). By this point Chris Carter is in left, JD Drew is in center, and Youk is in right (after supposedly having the night off), with Casey at first. Manny, who's DHing, seemed to have some words with Youk between innings, then it looked like he slapped him, you're right. At the next inning's break, Don and Remy start mock-fighting and, of course, hilarity ensues. Next time Manny gets up, he hurts his hamstrings dodging a pitch, but walks, and is pinch-ran for by Kevin Cash, who had to run in from the bullpen, where he was warming guys up. Meanwhile, Chris Carter is so far 2-for-3 in his major league career, with a good 8 or 9 total bases and two runs scored.

Did I miss anything?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:32 PM

If I had the choice I'd go for the postgame show too. I'm dying of curiosity here.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:33 PM

Haha Liza pretty good summary. This is by far the most interesting game I've seen in a long time. I just hope that Jacoby is ok though.

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:34 PM

so since i dont get the Red Sox games and Im a huge Celtics fan, Im watching the game and there's a commercial on ABC for a new reality show....
I survived a Japanese game show
I really just dont get it

Oh Celts up by 5 at 2:30

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:34 PM

"Dizzy"!?

[ shark ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:34 PM

Thanks, Liza.
My house is in total chaos. A newborn, a two year old, a 4 year old, and a 6.5 year old. What the F was I thinking???? I'm as close to a nervous breakdown as I ever have been!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:34 PM

HAHA Dizzy!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:34 PM

I just wish that this was the game on national TV. Oh well...I would have missed all the early excitement anyway because I got home too late!

[ Erin ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:35 PM

Wow A lot of fans have left the game

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:35 PM

Just got in, and just saw the game summary! Can someone fill me in on the fights, and the Ellsbury injury?

STAT!!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:36 PM

Gee I wish there was a way I could see some clips from the postgame show since I don't have NESN....

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:36 PM

Well, good for you--I'm sure the Sox aren't helping the nerves, though!

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:36 PM

Oh, and I forgot--it's the first day of the draft.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:37 PM

Starr4 - GameDay has all the necessary clips:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2008_06_05_tbamlb_bosmlb_1&mode=gameday

Jacoby didn't break anything, but strained something in his hand.

[ Lulu ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:38 PM

Danielle, I saw that commercial too! Have you ever seen japanese game shows? They are ridiculously weird. Search for Human Tetris or the marshmellow one on youtube. :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:39 PM

LOL starr...Ian has posted the big fight. The Manny-Youk thing is unknown at this time. Jacoby made a great catch but bent his wrist very awkwardly (I can't describe it because I didn't see it).

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:39 PM

Wow. Lugo made a really nice play. This is definitely a surreal day.

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:39 PM

An even stranger night - a good barehand play by Lugo

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:41 PM

C'mon, A-A-R-D-V-A-R-K!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:41 PM

Shh, y'all, you'll jinx Lugie! j/k

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:43 PM

Thank you for the videos, Texy, Ian and Gameday. Thank you loyal and accurate game thread folks for filling in the details, which I sped read through so I'm as up to date as possible.

It's already been said, but weird game.

Looks like we did OK in the draft today.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:44 PM

Starr, don't you mean you read them...STAT? ;-)

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:44 PM

Of course this night must have a interesting ending...

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:45 PM

W

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Well. That was one bizarre game.

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Can you read stat? Then, I did. :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:45 PM

YEAH Aardvark!

[ Jessi ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:45 PM

THANK GOD its over

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:45 PM

i missed the pre-game show but TC just said Stephen King was on during it.

That explains everything that happened tonight.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:46 PM

Yes of course you can read stat. It all comes out the same no matter what you call it! :-)

[ njdevils ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:47 PM

I wasn't able to comment during the game because I'm studying for finals and I knew I would be way too distracted if I came here, but that has to be one of the weirdest games ever.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:48 PM

Hi nj! Good luck with your finals. Yes, it was a very, very weird game.

[ njdevils ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:49 PM

Aww, Chris Carter interview on WRKO. =)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:50 PM

Yep, I was going to say the same thing, nj.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:51 PM

What's he saying? NESN doesn't even seem to plan to talk about it.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:54 PM

liza, it's a longggggggggg postgame show. I'm sure he'll be interviewed

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:55 PM

They're talking about Jacoby now...

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:56 PM

Awww. They're sending Chris back down and calling up Moss.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:56 PM

carter got sent down.

[ njdevils ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:57 PM

Short recap of interview: He sounded pretty excited. He has a game ball, which made him happy. They asked him if anyone was injured in the madness tonight. He said Coco is a bit scratched up but he's alright. He said he talked to Jacoby, who said he felt fine. It wasn't very long, but you could tell he was excited.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:58 PM

"We had a lot of testosterone going on tonight."

Nicely phrased, Tito.

Haha: "I was ready kick Millsie's ass." Yay live TV!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 9:58 PM

i didn't figure we'd find out what happened between youk and manny from tito

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:03 PM

Across town the cheer roared after seeing Coco charging the mound then the score of the game and John Henry sitting along the baseline according to the Celtics Blog

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:08 PM

Aww. Carter's adorable.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:09 PM

liza, you get a carter interview in a bit

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:11 PM

I still say it's amazing that no one was seriously injured in that melee. What an ugly fight.

[ njdevils ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:14 PM

I just watched the Manny/Youk fight on ESPN, and they're just as flabbergasted as we are. They had a pretty nice recap on all of the madness to make it somewhat understandable, so you might want to watch that when you get a chance.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:17 PM

upcoming is coco's reaction.

this oughta be great.

[ Liza ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:20 PM

Please, please, please, Ian or TG put up video of Coco? and Carter? And the rest? Please? I'm on an ultimatum right now so I can't watch it.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:21 PM

nj, you mean on Baseball Tonight, or is it on the ESPN website?

[ njdevils ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:23 PM

Ecl, It was on Baseball Tonight, so you'll be able to catch it again later.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:26 PM

coco said the rays fight like little girls. scratching, pulling hair.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:29 PM

Later...I will be in bed.

LOL Ian...I guess with a dad who was a fighter he would know about the proper method, right?

[ Piney61 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:36 PM

Okay this game was too weird for me. I vote that no more 6:05pm starts if shit like this will happen.

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:38 PM

I'm with you, Piney. No more 6:05 starts and no more Stephen King on pregame shows.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:42 PM

I guess NESN forgot about showing the Chris Carter interview

[ fc ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:46 PM

Just back from the circus - I mean, the game - no, I mean the circus!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:51 PM

fun night at the Fens fc????

Paul Pierce just left the Celtics game with an apparent knee injury.

[ fc ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:55 PM

Well I just found out it was weirder than I knew.
I had no idea about the thing between Youk & Manny - scanning comments for clues on what that was about.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 5, 2008 10:56 PM

phew pierce is back

[ Danielle ] says:
on June 5, 2008 11:03 PM

There is definately something in the air in Boston tonight
