Hi everyone
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there!

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:05 PM

Just rolled in from VA Beach. Dear God, Buck Martinez is doing color on TBS (hooks up headphones to listen to MLB feed).

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:05 PM

Did anyone see Bronson a few minutes ago professing his love for Fenway Park?

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:09 PM

Ah, what's not to love about Tek!?! "The camo was real fun!"
This in response to Watney's question (NESN) on the special Catchers gear he'll be wearing this Father's Day.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:12 PM

I did not need to know Wake colors his hair.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:12 PM

Is there a happier man on the planet than Sean Casey?

[ starr4 ] says:

Hi all...something is seriously wrong with my cable at the moment. I had on TBS and after Sleepless in Seattle they indicated that the game was next...and now what is showing on TBS but CNN Headline News (I checked to see if the channels somehow were reversed and Headline News is also in its customary spot). Off to call my cable company and raise Cain. :-(

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:14 PM

Oops. Computer behaving badly. Apologies for the double post.

Do heart Casey!

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:14 PM

starr, do you have the hiccups?

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:16 PM

Hi fc, yep or something like that. :)

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:16 PM

Ellsbury off to a great start again.

[ starr4 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:17 PM

Go Jacoby!!! Nice steals.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:18 PM

Unbelievable - he can't be stopped!
For ecl's benefit: he got a single, then stole second, then stole third!

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:21 PM

YAY Jacoby!

Thanks for the update fc. I too am without baseball resources today. :)

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:22 PM

Wow, we're beating up Bailey.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:22 PM

That's good to know, fc -- I see he scored.

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:24 PM

Hi Y'all!

We just got home from church and put the game on just in time to see Ellsbury score.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads. God bless you!

My late father is who gave me my love for baseball by taking my brother and I to see the Giants play. I remember learning everything from how to score games to ticking off the fans by cheering for the Dodgers ;-). Yeah, i learned to be a smart ass from my Dad, too. I miss you Dad.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:26 PM

Well my Dad didn't give me my love for baseball but he did take me (& family) to my first Red Sox game. So thanks, Dad.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:27 PM

HELLOOO JOSH

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:28 PM

BecKett!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:28 PM

So, after trying to sell me bundled telephone service (SHUT UP I WANT MY BALL GAME), the customer service agent has sent a signal to my cable box. If I don't get TBS back by 2:00 I'm supposed to call them back. Grrrr...have never had this channel bleed in 10+ years with this cable company. It happened at a really. bad. time.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:29 PM

The MLB feed of RKO is lagging behind TBS big time.

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:29 PM

ecl...ugh! I feel for you. That would drive me crazy. I have so little patience for poor customer service, especially when they're trying to sell me something.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:30 PM

WRKO always lags way behind...even worse than Gameday. Sometimes you guys are talking about a play and it's already up on Gameday and WRKO is still on the previous batter!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:31 PM

Jules, unsolicited sales pitches are one of my major pet peeves.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:33 PM

How bout unsolicited sales pitches on a game day thread

ecl want to save money by switching your car insurance to Geico. ;)

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:33 PM

Ha, the crowd has to be told when to cheer.

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:33 PM

Come on, Josh!

LOL..Remy on the crowd noise.

Gotta run.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:33 PM

Ouch, was that Youk's or Lugo's error?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:33 PM

Only if I can keep the gecko, Ian.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:34 PM

there's a shocker....another lugo error.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:34 PM

E6

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:34 PM

Should have tossed it to Pedroia, he was in a better position. Dumbass.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:35 PM

Maybe we should start calling him by the number of errors... E14.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:37 PM

Crap--the second TBS flashed up the "Josh Beckett hasn't given up a walk in the first inning this year" I knew he was screwed.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:38 PM

trish that was lowell at second. they were in the shift.

remy explained that perfectly. he should have gone across the bag and then thrown it over.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:39 PM

Except for Josh and Tek I can't tell any of the Sox apart with a casual glance. ;)

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:40 PM

Did Josh have his Wheaties this morning?

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:40 PM

I am sure you can tell Manny apart too. :D

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:41 PM

BecKKett

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:41 PM

phew

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:42 PM

And Papi, Ian... :-D

BecKKett!

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:42 PM

I should have clarified "Sox who are playing right now."

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:43 PM

And at least one other but she's being SO well behaved, I won't go there.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:43 PM

We'll have to give you a tutorial, Trish. Many of them are distinctive looking...Youk, Pedie, Lugo, Lowell especially.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:43 PM

C'mon, Trish, get it out of your system.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:44 PM

OOPS, fc...didn't mean to invoke that name! My mind isn't good today.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:46 PM

Millinary wear by Youk.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:49 PM

Okay, this is weird...the game is on Fox Sports South. Guess I'll go watch it, and call the cable company after the game if I still have Headline News on the TBS channel!

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:50 PM

COCO! This is insane!!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:50 PM

i'm cuckoo for coco

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:51 PM

Sorry, I was talking to my dad and wishing him happy Dad's Day.

Oh--F KEVIN YOUKILIS for those anxiously waiting.

[ Meghan ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:52 PM

Just like "Balfour," Homer isn't a great name for a pitcher:-P

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:53 PM

Late post -- nice work, Covelli!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:54 PM

someone remind beckett you get 3 outs in the big leagues

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:54 PM

JOSH SMASH--oops, right at the second baseman.

[ Ellen ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:54 PM

Maybe Fox Sports South has an exclusive and they're putting CNN on TBS to block it? You think they would have told you that, though.

Gosh it's so cute to see pitchers bat!

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:55 PM

That's 3 STRIKES, Ian.

[ Meghan ] says:
on June 15, 2008 1:56 PM

Beckett made decent contact with the curveball...I hope he gets a hit today.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:02 PM

thanks fc, my bad. i was too busy laughing...

[ Meghan ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:04 PM

Maybe that's why he keeps getting to 0-2 and then walking guys or giving up hits! He thinks thyey only get two! C'mon Josh.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:07 PM

btw this is a great day for sports. Red Sox baseball, US Open Golf with Tiger leading and the Celtics going for #17.

My couch will have a nice lasting impression of my ass print today.

Oh who am I kidding, it gets that everyday.

[ Meghan ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:09 PM

I'm making myself stay home until the C's game, otherwise my bank account would have a nice big impression from my bar tab.

Ellsbury!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:09 PM

homer throws his best changeup of the day and then hangs a breaking ball to jacoby to give up the homer.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:09 PM

Ellen, Fox Sports had something else listed for this time slot. I'm wondering if the channel switch is a systemwide problem and my cable provider pulled in the Fox Sports feed from Cincinnati because TBS was acting up. We get lots of Midwestern games down here, so it makes sense and hey, I'll take it. Anything to see the game! I don't watch TBS except for games, so fixing the problem can wait.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:09 PM

Jacoby!
I thought the Home Run Derby wsn't until July.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:10 PM

Homer off of Homer --- I love it!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:10 PM

JD DREWWWWWWWWWWWWWw

[ Ellen ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:10 PM

Holy Smokes! Keep that pitcher in there.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:10 PM

Well this is just silly. And delicious.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:11 PM

At this rate, Drew could contend for the batting title.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:11 PM

A dugout full of happy Sox. Is there anything better?

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:12 PM

that was good impression of griffey there by drew.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:13 PM

ecl - and to think, it's not long ago that that was a joke

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:14 PM

when did cincy fans become new yorkers? booing your starting pitcher off the mound.

[ Meghan ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:14 PM

Maybe Bailey just doesn't want Dusty Baker to blow out his arm. So he sucks on purpose, knowing he will get taken out early, and hoping he will get traded.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:15 PM

Youk doing bernies ads.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:15 PM

I suddenly have a burning need for a TV from Bernie's.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:16 PM

ecl, I managed to find a way to get the live feed at work, and it's showing on FSN for me too. So it's not just you, apparently they have it all kinds of screwed up in NC. Aren't we special? :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:16 PM

fc -- interesting! And funny! I'm glad it's not a joke anymore...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:17 PM

Leave it to the Old North State to be screwed up, Bethie!

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:17 PM

btw....drew hit 11 home runs all of last year. his HR today was his 11th of the season.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:18 PM

Easy with that equipment there, boy.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:20 PM

tek's wearing eye blue as well

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:22 PM

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the eye stuff?

And as for Drew - :) :) :)
I kind of wish I got a Drew jersey last year so I could still be wearing it this year and not seem like a JD bandwagon jumper.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:23 PM

Drew is currently listed at #8 BA in MLB. That was before today, though, as he was at .320 on the list and is now at .323. So he could move up a bit on the list today...

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:25 PM

Drew's phenomenal. I loved him before but I never would have guessed he could be this good.

[ Jolie ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:26 PM

me too, fc :(

I remember someone on the T laughing at some other guy with a #7 jersey and saying that he probably tells people it's a Nixon. Well, harharhar, look who's probably laughing now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:28 PM

When I can again afford to buy player shirts, JD is on my short list.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:29 PM

And Trot just made it back to the bigs with the Mets! Atta boy!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:29 PM

And I know I mentioned this before, but he's also much better looking than I initially realized.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:29 PM

ecl, he's on my other short list as you recall. ;)

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:30 PM

Oh my God, my Dad's become a Sox fan. This is the fifth sign of the Apocalypse.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:30 PM

Way to go Trot! The Mets are alright by me!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:31 PM

Ha ha, fc!

Trish, did your dad just reveal this to you? They do have a way of creeping up on people...

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:31 PM

I'm loving this home run derby. I've been doing things around the house (getting ready for a family get together later) while having the game on.

Did the Cincy fans really boo their pitcher? No matter how poorly they pitch, you just don't do that.

Ian, your day sounds like ours: Sox, Tiger, Celtics. Thankfully we're a family of sports fans.

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:33 PM

Trish, was he a Yankees fan previously?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:33 PM

Nice going, Lugo/Beckett!

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:33 PM

He was a Mets fan when I was a kid, but he lives close to Tampa now and sees a lot of AL ball. It's like that line in "City Slickers"--when we couldn't talk about anything else we could talk about baseball. My mom died when I was a kid so he's been my only parent for a while. We've had our issues, but he's my dad and I love him EVEN IF HE'S A SOX FAN NOW. :D

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:35 PM

Trish, I'm sorry about your Mom.

That's how it is with my father-in-law. The only thing we see eye-to-eye on is the Sox (and how wonderful his son is).

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:37 PM

Trish and jules, you are lucky to have immediate family who love baseball. My sis and BIL pay it cursory attention, and my mom sometimes enjoys good sportswriting when I send it to her, but just as often the reaction is a yawn or "that's niiiiiice." Dad couldn't have cared less about sports.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:38 PM

Thanks, Jules.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:38 PM

BecKKKKKett

[ jules ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:40 PM

My Mom is a huge sports freak. She loves NASCAR (sport????). She and my Dad (technically step-dad, but he's been my Dad for over 30 years) love coming over to watch sports on our big HD tv.

I'm off again. Time to clean the floors. oh joy ;-)

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:42 PM

man the rain finally stopped here and it's suddenly very chilly outside.

jules when i called my father to wish him a happy dad day earlier my mom said they were doing the same thing as me.

my family is huge into sports. been that way since I was a kid. There's nothing like calling your mom to talk about the game.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:43 PM

What's the over/under on Josh punching Lugo in the face sometime during this game?

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:44 PM

2-1 odds on that although as long as Josh keeps executing pitches it may become a long shot

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:48 PM

Plant City---strawberry capital of the world

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:48 PM

My family baseball talk mostly includes my cousins. The ones in NY are mostly Yankees partisans, which makes discussions a bit dicey. My phys ed teacher cousin in Houston is much more nonpartisan, although he has that "guy" perspective of stats, scores and little else. But at least they understand...

[ Jolie ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:51 PM

my parents came over to this country when they were in their early 30s, so I had to start to baseball watching tradition. my parents, especially my dad, have become hooked.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:56 PM

Beat LA chants in Cincy.... ya gotta love it...

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:57 PM

Hits, runs - they remembered how to do it on the road! Whee!

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 2:58 PM

I love the Beat LA chants too, but is that kind of thing why people hate us?

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:00 PM

Aw, look at Tek rocking the eye blue.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:03 PM

I think so fc....

Did they move today's game to Fenway Park and didn't tell us.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:04 PM

newest Red Sox nation ad is up.....

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:09 PM

BecKKKKKKett

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:11 PM

Hey, ECL, you'll appreciate this--Swish? Sees Tek's eye blue and raises him a blue chin beard, LOL.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:13 PM

Interesting little whirlaround by E-14...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:15 PM

Trish -- are you talking about the Red Sox Nation ad? I'm so confused (my antibiotic kicked in and I'm waaaaay groggy and dizzy at the moment).

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:17 PM

No, Nick Swisher (I'm watching Rockies/White Sox on MLB TV). My other boy besides Josh. :D

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:17 PM

I just bought some Savignyoouuk Blanc. Maybe I'll open a bottle...

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:18 PM

Holy crap, another homer.

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:18 PM

Damn, it's like batting practice.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:19 PM

Tek-Pedie hug again! LOL...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:20 PM

Ahh, okay Trish. I was sitting there scratching my head about what Swish had to do with Tek! (grin)

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:22 PM

No biggie. :D Although I must admit the blue suits Swish much better than the pink beard he had for Mother's Day. Did Tek wear eye pink?

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:24 PM

Whoever came up with the idea for the "Viva Viagra" commercial? Needs to die a very slow and painful death.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:24 PM

Men in pink. Does. not. compute!

Did anyone else here see the pic awhile back of Lugo and Pedie off field? Pedie looked just fine in his black T-shirt. Lugo was wearing a polo shirt with wide horizontal stripes in tan (fine), brown (also fine), and...bright pink. WTF? Who is his fashion advisor?

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:26 PM

Remy to DO: Pedey to Youkie. :)

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:26 PM

GO PEDIE

Some guys do look good in pink. There's a guy who works at my company who likes pink dress shirts and he looks sweet.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:27 PM

Someone PLEASE make Remy & DO tell us what Tito calls Josh.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:29 PM

I love these Beckett stories they're telling on Fox Sports.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:31 PM

Trish, our clinical director wears pink dress shirts anbd looks just fine in them. But he's Northern European, not caramel Latin-American. That skin tone and pink are totally horrible together!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:31 PM

Whoops.....*and*

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:32 PM

Like what?

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:43 PM

Mighty quiet here.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:43 PM

Trish -- they were talking about his brash cockiness when he was a young pup with the Marlins in the WS, and how he told the guys that if they just got him ONE run, he would win the game. Etc etc etc. They went on about "young Josh" for awhile there.

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:44 PM

and yet yesterday you were "complaining" about people talking too much fc ;)

[ Trish ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:48 PM

I enjoy stories about Puppy Josh.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:52 PM

I reserve the right to be inconsistent.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:55 PM

Sean!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:59 PM

He is quite a guy, Trish. I remember seeing him pitch for the Marlins in the WS...he was electrifying even then.

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 15, 2008 3:59 PM

I believe everyone loves Sean Casey.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on June 15, 2008 4:00 PM

Bethie, did you hear the announcers talking about how Sean hugs everybody and "squeezes the breath right out of them?"

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 4:01 PM

it's ok fc we still love ya.

[ fc ] says:
on June 15, 2008 4:02 PM

"BEAT LA"

[ Ian ] says:
on June 15, 2008 4:02 PM

someone needs to explain to RemDawg that it's tip-off not tap-off for basketball

[ Bethie ] says:
on June 15, 2008 4:04 PM

Yep, doesn't shake your hand he hugs your neck. :) Bet the guys on the team love to see him coming towards them.

[ Trish ] says:

Oh, yeah--WHEN HE WAS BEATING THE SNOT OUT OF MY YANKEES. If I ever meet Josh, I'll say "I love you now, but I may or may not apologize for calling you a douchebag punk during the 2003 WS."

Speaking of the Yankees, they are beating the Astros by the identical score that the Sox are beating the Reds, 9-0.

And now that Josh is out, so am I--I have a metric ton of laundry to do. See y'all next Josh start!

Trish, I guess that's why I remember the game so well. I was still very much into the Yankees at the time!
