The Jason Varitek Workout

Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda don't have a thing on Jason Varitek. He's invented a new kind of workout regimen - half football linebacker blocking, half weird yoga posing - that's guaranteed to really make you feel the burn... in just 5 simple steps!

Step 1: Snag a throw in from the outfield.
Step 2: Block home plate, while a baserunner barrels full steam ahead right at you.
Step 3: Collision!
Step 4: Go ass-over-teakettle.
Step 5: Hold on to the ball. Get the out.

If you can master those five steps, you'll earn all the benefits of the Jason Varitek Workout -- namely, helping captain your team to an extra-innings victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, avoiding a series sweep, and maintaining your team's lead in the AL East. Definitely better than Sweatin' To The Oldies.

YEAH TEK!

Chris Duncan is not a small guy either, around 6'5, 220.....that's a big guy chugging at you.

I guess Chris Duncan is just as nice as his brother when it comes to sliding.

But still--I was remembering Molina's collision last week and was really, really glad when Tek stood up.

Good catch, Liza.

Thanks for the clip, Texy. JD's throw in was impressive.

I was SO hoping for the still pic on that - thanks, Texy. What a guy - tough as nails.

that's actually called a shoulder bridge, and I don't recommend trying it in yoga class - terrible for your neck.

Love the pic. I love watching Tek, and I just read on boston.com that he has dropped in All-star votes. I use all 4 of my email addresses to vote daily. Now that probably says I have no life, but I actually do it usually while watching the game. I am hoping others will join me in voting too. I want to see him in the All star game.

I held my breath until he got up.

I only have two email addresses that I use to vote every day. I'm taking the cue from Karen to step it up.

I hate to be a snark, but I also hate to see photos used uncredited. Was that Winslow Townson's shot for AP?

Kelly - there is a credit for the photo, to AP Photo, at the bottom of the entry.

I do want to see him in the All-Star Game too because he is priceless at his position and simply the best, but stupid Joe Mauer had to go and get all "2nd in the AL in batting average" on us, dammit!

Sorry, and thanks--I looked everywhere (or so I thought) but didn't see it!

Absolutely NO need to apologize. I used to be so lax about remembering to credit photos- despite the fact I *always* credit videos. So I finally figured out by adding that extra line at the bottom, I would be forced to remember.

Varitek is horrible, time to get rid of him. All Star???? All Stars should be able to hit continuously over .250.
