All Star Game/Home Run Derby Open Thread

Anyone else out there weirdly excited about the prospect of the Home Run Derby and All Star Game, despite all logic and reason? Yeah, me, too.

We can all use this thread tonight and tomorrow as an open thread to talk about all the festivities going on at Yankee Stadium.

Derby? It's called the Home Run DERBY?

I was under the impression it was called the Home Run Wankathon.

Curious.

Probably won't watch the HR Derby...I want to focus on miscellaneous chores, e-mails, and an early bedtime. Will definitely be around for tomorrow night's festivities, though. Anyone know if the game will be on mlb.tv, or am I stuck watching it on cable?

[ Kim ] says:
on July 14, 2008 7:54 PM

Unlike the lovely poster above me I don't have my priorities straight. All the chores will wait and I'll be watching tonight's derby. Did I read correctly, I forget where, that there will be a red carpet? Did y'all see Julianna Ramirez on the Today Show this morning. God, that women is beautiful!!

[ jules ] says:
on July 14, 2008 8:03 PM

I've got the Derby on, but have to leave in about an hour for golf lessons.

The players' kids are adorable--dancing to the music!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 14, 2008 8:04 PM

I'll probably be popping in and out both tonight and tomorrow... but I'm loving these shots of the players and their kids already. They are SO CUTE.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 14, 2008 8:09 PM

These unis are way, WAY less hideous than last year's.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 8:35 PM

Uh oh...am I missing cute Sox kids?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 8:39 PM

Hmmmm, Kim and jules and Liza have convinced me. TV is on...there goes any pretense of getting stuff done tonight! :O

[ fc ] says:
on July 14, 2008 8:58 PM

Deathly boring except for shots of Youk and almost-step-son which nearly killed me with cute.

[ fc ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:01 PM

And apparently while typing I missed JD and his little boy. AARRRG.

[ Kim ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:04 PM

What a cutie JD's son is! They also just showed Jason and his adorable daughter with her killer eyes.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:34 PM

Josh Hamilton is SICK. SICK, I tell you.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:37 PM

Josh Hamilton is one my favorite players not on the Red Sox.

[ Meghan ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:37 PM

This is insane.

[ Kim ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:40 PM

He's freakin amazing! Did anyone just see the cop grab that kid in the stands by the neck? Dang

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:41 PM

Dayum. This man is INSANE.

Hits bombs like it's going out of style. Jeeeeesus.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:41 PM

Josh Hamilton is utterly UNREAL.

[ fc ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:42 PM

OK, I'm impressed.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:43 PM

Is there anyway they would possibly skip the semis and finals?? Cause I don't think they are gonna need it.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:44 PM

This is crazy!

[ Kim ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:44 PM

and how about the 71 year old pitcher? Wow!

[ fc ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:45 PM

Papi's impressed too.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:46 PM

He's gonna go all night.

Like seriously.

[ Ellen ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:55 PM

Hamilton is just awesome. WOW.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:55 PM

Sorry for the late post. I was pretty well nigh speechless. Holy cannoli.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:56 PM

That was just... crazy. I don't think he made an out between numbers 18 and 28.

I got a huge kick out of the other Rangers guys--Bradley toweling him off, Young taking a picture of himself and Hamilton on his phone, and Kinsler running up and hugging him--as well as Papi's stunned reactions.

But... wow. Just wow.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 14, 2008 9:59 PM

I loved when Volquez brought out the briefcase to Hamilton. I can only imagine what was in it!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:01 PM

Josh Hamilton is pretty much ridiculous. That is all

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:04 PM

The Rangers just gained thousands of new fans, courtesy of fireworks from one Mr. Hamilton.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:09 PM

I actually didn't know until the announcers just mentioned it that Hamilton had gotten mixed up with heroin. I had assumed it was cocaine related. (shuddering)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:12 PM

Wow...you know we're coming into the second half of the season when "There's Only One October" ads start showing up!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:13 PM

ESPN Magazine has had a couple of great stories on him. SI did one as well. He seems like a pretty cool dude.

Here's a great one.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:16 PM

Braun is awesome. Hamilton stole the show, but Braun is not doing badly.

Also, that October ad was SO much better than last year's Dane Cook ones.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:24 PM

Those Dane Cook ads were horrendous.

At the ALCS and World Series games, my friend and I would holler, "THERE'S ONLY ONE.... AAAAACHTOOOOHBER." We thought we were funny. Maybe that's why the people in Cleveland hated us...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:31 PM

Thanks for the link, TG. Very inspiring story, even to someone like me who dislikes overt religiosity. Once upon a time I went though crack addiction and walked away, so I can definitely identify with what a rough road it is.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 14, 2008 10:32 PM

Hey guys, just stopping by.

Is there a reason Papi was sitting with the NL guys? I kind of loved it when he walked back over to the AL side after home run # what, 19?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 14, 2008 11:10 PM

TG: A good friend of mine (who I mostly just talk to through emails and text messages) and I still joke about that--"There's only one. OCTOBER!!"

Kara: He said his buddies from the NL were calling him over so he just dragged his chair over and sat with them. He's so silly.

But wow... props to Morneau, but Hamilton just... I can't even describe it. And how about his 71-year-old pitcher?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 14, 2008 11:24 PM

Liza, Papi is wonderfully silly! Just the sight of him makes me grin.

Hamilton and his 71-year-old pitcher -- just astonishing. That old guy practically threw a complete game tonight.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 7:12 PM

You're not the only one. I taped the Derby, so i could watch it today before the red carpet parade. I worked too late last night to do so. I will be watching tonight.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 7:29 PM

Did anyone notice at the beginning of the Red Carpet Jeanne said she was "sending it down to the Red Sox carpet, I mean the Red Carpet"

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 7:51 PM

Hey there folks...I'm actually pretty excited about this. And have already shed some tears over the baseball history stuff, true to form.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 7:53 PM

Duchovny -- grew up watching the Yankees on WPIX in black and white. That sounds just like my childhood...(apologies for growing up where I did).

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 7:53 PM

Hi kids! I had a CRAPTASTIC day at work so I'm ready to be VERY silly.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 7:58 PM

I had a harrowing day at work and am considering having a beer...but will mostly be running back and forth from the bedroom in between innings. Will attempt to get silly with you eventually.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:01 PM

Maybe it's just me but I was a little disappointed with the parade coverage. I would have liked to actually see the parade a little more than trying to see who was riding behind the players being interviewed. I'm not saying for the whole time because I did like the interviews but just a few minutes of the parade is all I'm asking for.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:07 PM

"Craptastic" pretty much describes my day... that is, if you remove the two-hour window in which I saw the Baseball As America exhibit at the MoS. That was awesome. The rest of it was terrible.

Made more terrible by the boos for the Sox. :P

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:08 PM

I have to say there is no other sport that truly honors its past like baseball. This is gonna be a good night!!

Drew sitting front and center with Brett talking was adorable.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:09 PM

Liza, I wish so much I could get up there and see the Baseball As America exhibit. It just sounds so fascinating!

We've only gotten through the nonstarter intros and my eyes are wet already. This is not a good sign. Sometimes I hate being such a sentimental softie.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:11 PM

Danielle, it's that honoring of the past that totally reduces me to a shivering pile of tears. The old stadium (and it doesn't matter which one), the old players...some of them in wheelchairs...the old historical videos. Gaaahhh.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:16 PM

They're booing, not saying YOOOUUK.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:16 PM

The awesome thing about Youk is he can just pretend that "booo" sound is "Youuuuk" instead.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:18 PM

Why aren't any of the former players wearing Sox hats? Eck was wearing an A's hat and Boggs wore a Yankees hat.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:20 PM

I MISS PAPI

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:21 PM

I have been looking forward to this. My sister and mom could care less, they don't understand why I am into this. I think it is fun watching your favorite players represent their team.

[ jules ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:23 PM

Willie McCovey. I stood and cheered! /Giants fan

MANNY!

Shut up, Yankees fans. Just shut up.

Of course, I boooooooed A-Rod. Does that make me a hypocrite?

Willy Mays! Reminds me of my late father, the one who got me hooked on this great game.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:23 PM

Winfield: 2 hats - classy.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:23 PM

I really enjoyed watching Hamilton last nite. Of course, I didn't see the tape until today, cause of work, but still good.

[ jules ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:25 PM

That's one of the things I love about baseball--the history of the game. it's wonderful. I just LOVE seeing these old guys.

[ jules ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:26 PM

Booing Tito.

SHUT UP.

[ jules ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:26 PM

How ADORABLE is Yogi???

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:28 PM

Well, the Yankee Stadium guys do know how to put on a show. Even if Yankee fans don't know how to be classy.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:30 PM

I know all the boos are annoying but I love them. The Red Sox have been kicking ass and winning and Yankee fans can't handle the Sox winning.

And yes, I know that is not the only reason they're booed but it's the way I handle them or at least how I try.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:30 PM

Erin they were wearing the hats in to which they were inducted to the Hall of Fame with.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:31 PM

Yogi = awesome. So many of them, but him especially.

I found myself wondering what the current crop of future Hall of Famers will look like 20 or 30 years down the road as they're being introduced as the old-timers at an ASG...picturing Manny at 60 and stuff like that.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:32 PM

My mom was annoyed at them booing the Sox players;

Her comment was "Hey, it's not their fault your team has sucked in the post season for the past 8 years"

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:32 PM

ecl, way to ruin the moment.
;) (as always)

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:33 PM

ICK ICK ICK

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:34 PM

Ian thats what both my mom and I thought. But we were wondering why they didn't have any that were inducted in a Sox hat.

I should have worded my question better.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:34 PM

Big Stein isn't looking good at all

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:35 PM

This is its own parody.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:37 PM

Uh oh...what did I say, fc? Does the idea of a 60-year-old guy with knee-length dreadlocks gross you out? ;)

Is it me, or is Yogi about the same size as Pedey? He's so wee!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:38 PM

actually my bad Erin. Boggs went into the Hall of Fame wearing a red sox hat. and did anyone notice that any of guys from the Red Sox in the Baseball Hall of Fame weren't asked to be there.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:39 PM

Yogi = Mr. Potato Head

[ Jess ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:39 PM

Aw, that was so lovely. Gosh it'll be weird to see all our favorites like this many years from now..

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:40 PM

Well, ecl, let's just say your comment filled my head with unpleasant images, up and down the lineup.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:42 PM

Ian- My mom was pissed when she saw Boggs tonight. Where was Carlton Fisk or Yaz?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:45 PM

Awwww, fc, are you feeling squeamish tonight? I sowwy! I bet Papi will still be a big smiling adorable teddy bear 25 years down the road. Is that better?

[ aggiegal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:47 PM

So my husband and I are wondering... He has worked the All Star Game before for MLB and says they take the stadium over and the home team doesn't have a say in anything. That leaves us with the question of were the Red Sox hall of famers not ask to be there or did they say no to coming to Yankees stadium???

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:48 PM

Actually I bet Old Manny will be one cool dude.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:50 PM

The Steinbrenner clan do not hand over anything especially power, you know they had some "influence" to say the least

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:52 PM

*clan does not

sorry for the horrific grammar there

[ aggiegal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:52 PM

So true, guess when they play at the Ballpark in Arlington it is quite different than yankee stadium

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:55 PM

Ok Fox, do not put the AL lineup directly over Youk... just not right

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:57 PM

Sox in the dugout: beautiful.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:58 PM

My mom says she needs alcohol because of the Fox guys.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:58 PM

So hate A-Rod's at bat song. To A-Rod: YOU ARE NOT HOT.

[ aggiegal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 8:59 PM

Too bad the World Champions didn't get to pick the announcers

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:00 PM

It's the amazing ball girl!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:01 PM

fc, Manny will be forever cool.

Missed the Sox in the dugout shot, darn it!

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:04 PM

Chipper is cute. My aunt is a big fan of his.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:06 PM

This is super weird, to actually be rooting for Jeter to get hits and ARod to make outs.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:07 PM

LARRY (hee! we always holler LAAAAAAA-RRRRR-YYYYY at him) loves to cheat on his wife with Hooters waitresses.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:11 PM

Did they say dominating Yankee Pitching or Yankee Bitching, either way is okay with me

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:13 PM

I can't get myself to root for Jeter or A-Rod.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:16 PM

Is it just me or did he just say that was the first AL steal? So does Jeter not exist or something?

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:17 PM

In my mind, Jeter doesn't exist.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:19 PM

Is A-Rod cheering for Pedroia? Now, I think pigs will fly.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:20 PM

It's better to try and tune out the announcers, they have no idea what they're saying

I mean it was quite obvious that Hamilton would have another AB so they could talk more about his story

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:21 PM

I'm fine with Jeter. Not A-Rod, though.

Karen, you should have seen Chipper when he was a young player. He was amazingly adorable back then.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:23 PM

A-Rod annoys me so much.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:24 PM

My father used to mute the tv during baseball games. Now I understand why. I just am always afraid I will miss something. Maybe not.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:25 PM

Karen I mute the TV during the Fox and ESPN games.

Anyone else having issues with Fox? It keeps on going to commercials for me

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:26 PM

No commercials here. Just annoying announcers.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:27 PM

How bout SJP? She's here
Yogi: She's not bad

So adorable

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:28 PM

The commercials have stopped for me.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:33 PM

No thank you, Jeet.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:35 PM

Love Josh H. Love that he got out of the horror he had made his life. Loved his prformance last night.
But enough with the maudlin story.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:37 PM

fc, absolutely. And...for the life of me I don't understand why he "regrets every one of his tattoos." Just because they're a reminder? Or does he think they're immoral or something? I caught a glimpse of the one on his arm last night and it looked like a work of art to me.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:38 PM

Doc!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:38 PM

HALLADAY! (lovelovelovelovelovelovelove)

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:39 PM

Halladay is on my fantasy team.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:40 PM

Everyone should check out this great little story in Extra Bases... I love Papi

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/07/no_madonna_here.html

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:40 PM

Pujols learned that from Sean Casey.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:41 PM

lol fc. that was good.

is it papelbon time yet

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:41 PM

Is it me or has Albert shed a few pounds? He doesn't look quite as beefy. Still cute as hell, though.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:41 PM

Yeah, fc, he should know better than to try to dig for second. He's not a speed demon.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:41 PM

everyone looks smaller off the juice.

totally kidding by the way

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:43 PM

Yeah, I hope so, Ian. :P

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:45 PM

looked like Big Z put a little extra Madonna, i mean mustard on that ball past Arod

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:45 PM

Speaking of Aramis, in almost every single HRD picture I saw, they misidentified Zambrano as Aramis.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:46 PM

they also Pedroia, Justin not Dustin

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:47 PM

they also called Pedroia, Justin not Dustin

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:48 PM

Sounded so nice they had to say it twice?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:48 PM

Yes, but they at least only messed his name up by one letter. Aramis and Zammy look nothing alike. It made me think they were like, "Eh, all Hispanic Cubs players are the same."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:49 PM

no fc the fingers forgot to type all what the brain sent it.

the fingers are tired and the brain is fried

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:50 PM

Big Z = big
Aramis = not

It's pretty easy.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:50 PM

Or the fingers tried but the brain was fired.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:50 PM

Red Sox are on the road and we are getting a freaking heatwave starting tomorrow. Gotta love summer

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:52 PM

Or the brain tried but the fingers were fired

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:54 PM

I'm thinking about going on a Holliday

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:55 PM

And just to think...once upon a time Holliday was doing that just a few miles from my house in our little A-ball stadium.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:56 PM

Ian, I think ARod's girfriend had a few things to say about that.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:57 PM

Or, like ARod, are you thinking about going on a holiday! Celebrate!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:57 PM

And to think that NYC Police has sharpshooters up there for every game

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 9:58 PM

Tex: Hat tip. Same idea, wittier than me.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:01 PM

I don't know that I'd agree with that...

Nate!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:05 PM

OK, since it's just me in here, I can say it: Kinsler is hot.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:05 PM

Buck, McCarver - Still annoying

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:05 PM

Gee, that mask slipping must've been distracting.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:06 PM

someone give some food to SJP, she looks like if the wind blows she might fall over

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:07 PM

"It's a fallacy to think that pitchers get it exactly where they want it all the time."

WHO THINKS THAT? SERIOUSLY?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:07 PM

DJ DJ DJ DJ DJ

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:08 PM

I'm so conflicted...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:09 PM

I just wanted him to hit a single. Anything more would have been uncivilized

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:10 PM

I'm conflicted too....

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:10 PM

Jeter - clutching his way into an out and 2 runners stranded.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:11 PM

i'm guessing Pedroia is done with Kinsler coming in

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:12 PM

Just a bit late, but yes, Kinsler is VERY hot.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:12 PM

Well now if the AL wins it, only one Skanks player has a chance for MVP and I find it highly unlikely he'd win it either

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:13 PM

If Rivera somehow manages to save the game, you better believe they'll give him the MVP.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:13 PM

How do we fill our nights now with no baseball until Friday

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:14 PM

With alcohol and empty, meaningless sex.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:14 PM

DREWWWWW

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:14 PM

Yay -- more of our guys are in!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:14 PM

you have to love it. take two Red Sox players out, put two more back in. SUCK IT NEW YORK

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:15 PM

I still can't believe Tek is in there. Though I do like having him behind the plate.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:15 PM
empty, meaningless sex

so someone is going to visit it me then ;)

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:16 PM

Sounds like someone's been reading my diary.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:16 PM

Ian...with blogging and catching up on e-mails and house chores. Although Texy's answer sounds like a lot more fun.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:17 PM

I flipped the channel, and Tek is in now. Yeah.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:18 PM

what that you're coming to visit me fc ;)

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:18 PM

This is starting to aggravate me. Because it could cost us something. Which is asinine.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:20 PM

You mean... like another run?

It's not like Tito has a bullpen full of ace pitchers or anything.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:20 PM

Triple-A All-Star Game is tomorrow night at 7 PM on ESPN2

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:21 PM

Okay this inning is pissing me off

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:21 PM

Phew! Dodged that baseball-less night bullet.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:22 PM

That decision to bat Bacon last year instead of Pujols is looking better and better by the second.

And by "better" I mean "stupider".

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:23 PM

Tito should bring Mariano in now to keep the score close

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:23 PM

I don't know that many AAA players. But at least it's baseball.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:24 PM

Hey look, an out!

...that's something I normally only say in Daisuke starts. Yikes.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:25 PM

It'd be awesome if Tatboy McHeroincrack would knock just 1/28th of his tater production from last night's first round.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:26 PM

Joe Thurston, Jeff Bailey, Chris Carter and Jonathan Van Every will be there for the PawSox. Charlie Zink was also elected to the team but won't be there because they told him his services weren't need since he pitched on Sunday.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:26 PM

Ouch! That's harsh!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:28 PM

another inning from Haren. This is different

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:28 PM

Tatboy McHeroincrack? HA.

And yeah, I'm psyched for the AAA ASG. Possibly more so than this one. (I mean, really--Thurston, Bailey, Carter, and Van Every all on my TV at the same time!)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:29 PM

You're right, fc.

TatMAN McHeroincrack

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:30 PM

I read Zink was disabled.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:31 PM

that was Michael Bowden

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:32 PM

yawn to the all star game. I'm waiting for the Varitek pitch hit home run

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:32 PM

From the ProJo:

In the No-Good-Deed-Goes-Unpunished Dept., knuckleballer Charlie Zink was the beneficiary of the PawSox’ first offensive largesse of the four-game series. He used it through seven innings to pick up his International League-leading 12th victory, then learned that his services were no longer required in the Triple-A All-Star Game, Wednesday at Louisville. “I’d like to go to the game. I’d like to at least be part of the opening ceremonies,” Zink said after surrendering six hits and striking out six before leaving with a 10-1 lead. “But they said no.” The IL said it wanted fresh arms to play against the Pacific Coast League All-Stars, so Zink will have to settle for three days off.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:33 PM

Can't be a pinch hit HR - he was defensively subbed in already.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:35 PM

welll it will be his first AB. You get the idea

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:37 PM

looks like Papelbuns in the 8th

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:37 PM

CAR-LOS QUEN-TIN!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:37 PM

My bet?

Nathan - 7th
Paps - 8th
Rivera - 9th

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:39 PM

Clearly George Sherrill is coming in for the 9th

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:39 PM

How loud will the boos for Papelbon be, on a scale of 1-10? I'd say 37.

[ karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:40 PM

My man warming up. That was a good view. Now I just need a close up of Tek.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:40 PM

scale of 1-10. i'm going 50

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:40 PM

I'm surprised Tek wasn't given special catching gear

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:41 PM

Paps is getting the John Rocker treatment!

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:41 PM

Oh, one of my favorite singers.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:41 PM

Josh Grobin??? Come on they could have done better

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:41 PM

You're both wrong. On a scale of 1-10: cinqo ocho.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:42 PM

I feel a cavity forming.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:42 PM

Oh, yay. Josh Groban. I wish they'd gotten Michael Buble and and John Mayer, and then they'd have had the Trinity of Sappy Suck.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:42 PM

Oh, I love Groban. At least they didn't get some pop princess who can't sing to save their life.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:43 PM

You mean like Sheryl Crow?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:44 PM

Papsicle is gonna get booed so intensely. I already feel bad for him.

I love Josh Groban's voice.

By the way, TG--Papelbaby is due New Years Day!

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:44 PM

My mom hates Josh Groban. She jokes that shes given birth in less time than it takes for him to sing a song

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:44 PM

I'm actually suprised they got someone who can really sing. Sporting events usually equal pop singers who can't sing.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:44 PM

Do the math: what happened around opening day?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:45 PM

I figured they would have gotten a New Yorker to sing it. Shit they could have let Ronan Tynan done it

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:45 PM

OK OK i'll say it---

they could have gotten Madonna

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:45 PM

Oh, yeah - I'm moving to Southie in a couple of weeks. Whee!

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:46 PM

Shipping Up to Boston!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:47 PM

Papelbaby = conceived on April Fool's Day. That's so perfect.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:47 PM

geez you just get there and you're moving again.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:48 PM

Well, "moving" in the sense that I'm putting my clothes and TV in my truck and driving it to Southie. But I'm only there until October 1. Then who the hell knows - hopefully Back Bay.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:49 PM

Did Tek even bat?

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:49 PM

No, I saw that coming though

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:49 PM

if only Tito did this during some regular season games. WTF i'm pissed. I wanted the captain to hit here

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:49 PM

I have friends who can see the Citgo sign and Fenway's lights from their apartment in Back Bay. I'm insanely jealous of them.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:50 PM

Liza that can be remedied by asking your parents to move to Back Bay

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:51 PM

What the hell, leave home and strike out on your own. For the team.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:51 PM

I'm on the 34th floor of my building at work, and my office window looks out onto the State House to the right, and across the Common and Newbury and down to Fenway on the left.... with the Charles spread out behind. It's pretty awesome.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:51 PM

Not gonna happen. I wish.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:52 PM

Better watch out with that view Texy, Marky Mark might shoot you.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:53 PM

DREWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:53 PM

JD DREWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:53 PM

DREW!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:53 PM

DREWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:53 PM

YEEAAAHHHH!!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:53 PM

Omg, is that awesome.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:54 PM

DREW!!!

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:54 PM

DREW!!!!!!!!

I love that GA boy!

[ Kara ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:54 PM

So basically, JD Drew is amazing right now.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:54 PM

that must have killed all those SKANKS fans having to cheer for a Red Sox player. SUCK IT NEW YORK

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:55 PM

So can we have JD go up for the next 10 outs like its the HRD

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:55 PM

that was the happiest ive been all season as a red sox fan (minus the Lester no hitter)

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:57 PM

If I could live anywhere, personally I would live in the Ritz Carlton Towers in Back Bay.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:58 PM

Personally, I would live in the EMC Club in Fenway. :)

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:58 PM

Pappy, Yum Yum.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:59 PM

The back bay is my favorite part of Boston.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 10:59 PM

I don't think I have ever heard this many boos.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:00 PM

Such classy fans that New York has and they say Red Sox fans are bad.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:00 PM

What are they chanting?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:00 PM

Fruit Bat, ready to close.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:00 PM

They weren't booing, they were chanting Mari - ano

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:01 PM

Seriously, the skanks fans can kiss my ass when they don't make the playoffs with fruitbat

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:01 PM

Weren't Paps comments taken out of context?

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:01 PM

well, if i'd have known you'd all be here, i would hvae dropped in sooner.

i screamed invectives at the stupid woman waving the back page of the new york post at pappy-boo and yelling at him.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:01 PM

now it's overrated

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:01 PM

I HATE Yankee fans.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

I'm going to laugh very hard if Rivera gets the loss in this game

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

That sucked.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

Oh man.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

WTF?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

should have left Tek in there Tito

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

this is about the time he should be waving his WS ring at the stadium.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:02 PM

It is a good thing I am not in the NYC for a weeks because if I was there for my conference now I would be in too many fights

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:03 PM

Fuck

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:03 PM

the worst part about this is that Paps gets booed because Navarro made the error

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:03 PM

Aww man, this really sucks.

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:03 PM

or, perhaps, a few minutes before this incident, that would have been the move

[ Kara ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:04 PM

Well, New York's gonna love this in the morning. Anything that's Paps fault is golden.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:04 PM

Rays always find new and inventive ways to suck.

Thanks for ruining the tie, Rays!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:04 PM

That's not Paps fault Kara. Navarro is the one who threw the ball away

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:04 PM

caryn he still should Navarro made the E, not Paps and they won't see a ring up close in this decade otherwise

[ Kara ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:05 PM

Yeah, but they're going to blame it on him.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:05 PM

Aww I love David Wright and all but I'm glad he got out.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:05 PM

It would have been great if Papelbon lost it and walked off the field with the 1-finger salute double fisted

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:05 PM

That run was earned by Papelbon. Sorry, but it's his fault.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:05 PM

Maybe they'll Blame it On the Rain...

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:06 PM

The Rays must know they're not in WS already and want to screw the rest of us over for it...

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:06 PM

Or maybe on the stars that shine at night.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:07 PM

Annnnnnnnd they reversed the ER.

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:07 PM

oh, i know it wasn't his fault, but the gesture would hvae been better at the morons.

at lunch today: three yankees fans, two red sox fans, and me.
what was sad?
i knew more about the sox than the two alleged fans

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:07 PM

how is the run earned? If the ball isnt in center, the runner is still on 2nd. And Wright Ks to end the inning

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:07 PM

It just blows my mind that a stadium crowd that is likely AL partisan (doesn't matter the team) can boo an AL pitcher in the ASG. Idiots.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:07 PM

All because of Papelbon, Caryn. Have you converted the boyfriend yet?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:08 PM

The run was earned because the official scorekeeper said it was.

And then they reversed it, so it's not.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:09 PM

That was a pretty quick reversal too

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:09 PM

not a chance, texy. not a chance.

i think i have reversed the hatred of the sox, however. at least a tiny bit

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:10 PM

I picture someone screeching and screaming as they run down the hallway to the scorer's booth, "THAT'SSSSS NOTTTTT AN ERRRRRORRRRRR!'

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:11 PM

Well, you made me not hate the Mets. So there's hope for us all.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:12 PM

did you mean earned run??

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:12 PM

No, I meant error. But earned run works, too- from the opposite viewpoint.

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:13 PM

now, you will hear booing.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:13 PM

And hear comes Mr. Never BlowsASave... right, caryn?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:15 PM

well it appears i may get my wish. Mariano NOT throwing the last pitch of the last All-Star game at Yankee Stadium

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:16 PM

okay, billy, take a few miles off that pitch, okay?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:16 PM

Come on Longoria, make up for stupid catcher

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:17 PM

Longoria attempts to erase the shame of Navarro.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:17 PM

Come on EVAN.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:17 PM

Texy, remember the bullpen catcher for the Rockies I talked to at the World Series, that was him next to Lidge

[ Huck8467 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:19 PM

Do the Yankee fans realize that they want the AL to win?? Why boo him now? Wait til the Sox come to town. Stupid.

I just said to a friend who is a Yankee fan that they threatened his pregnant wife and she says that's nothing, they shouted things to David Wells about his mother after she died of cancer. Oh great. That's just beautiful. WTF is wrong with people??

It sucks that this piece of trash printed in a newspaper ruined Paps time at the All-Star game. People should know that NY papers are trash. Ridiculous.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:19 PM

Atta boy Longoria!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:19 PM

FUCK YEAH EVAN!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:19 PM

Yeah Longoria?

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:20 PM

EXPLETIVE DELETED

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:20 PM

I credit myself for that. He was inspired after he saw me catch his homerun in spring training, and has been trying to impress me ever since.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:20 PM

Thanks Evan!

[ Karen ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:20 PM

That was good.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:21 PM

i still got my wish though for now

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:22 PM

That's the Billy Wagner I know and love. Some things never change.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:22 PM

Ian, that might be in the category of "careful what you wish for" but let's wait and see...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:22 PM

its KROD coming in not Mariano

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:22 PM

Wagner can still get the win and Rivera can still get the loss.....and JD Drew is the mvp so far

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:23 PM

Sweet. Okay, folks, I'm gonna be disciplined and shut this computer off and watch the remainder of the game (for as long as I can stay awake) in the reclining position in bed. Enjoy...will see folks Friday night. Go AL!!! :D

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:24 PM

It would be awesome if they leave KRod in this whole inning, and then the AL bats in a run and Rivera never makes it in.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:24 PM

hahahaha when JD hits the walkoff, Rivera wont even have been in the game

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:25 PM

Is KROD in for a few batters and then let Mariano get a nice ovation from the crowd in this inning

[ Jennie ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:25 PM

I'm coming in late for the Papelbon incident but can I express my seething hatred for those classless fools who dare DISRESPECT my fantasy baseball husband? They're just jealous and they have no stake in this game because the field advantage will not be theirs. Paps OWNS YOU!!!!!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:25 PM

orrrrrrrr KRod fucks it up and they bring in Fruit Bat after two batters.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:27 PM

Nice gesture here by Tito

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:27 PM

Like I said.

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:27 PM

sorry, ian.

[ Jennie ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:27 PM

is it evil for me to wish for a blown save?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:28 PM

Here comes Mo.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:28 PM

AND BAD FUCKIN PRODUCTION BY FOX FOR CUTTING AWAY

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:28 PM

This just shows how classless the skanks fans can be and how upstanding and classy Tito is

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:28 PM

as of right now i still get my wish because he won't throw the last pitch

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:29 PM

please, jennie, join me and the rest of the NL fans in wishing for a blown save :)

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:29 PM

New York fans (Skanks ones) don't understand that Tito has a great sense of baseball history. He knows what's going on.

[ Jennie ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:29 PM

then we can finally win a World Series at home!

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:31 PM

Jennie, I like you're thinking

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:32 PM

why mess with success, let them win it on the road ;)

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:32 PM

STRIKE EM OUT THROW EM OUT!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:32 PM

OK, Navarro - you are forgiven.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:32 PM

WOW. strike-em out throw-em out DP to end the inning. Navarro may be forgiven now

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:33 PM

Come on bats!

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:33 PM

a win is win, I don't care where they pop the champagne in the end as long as the parade is in Boston

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:33 PM

Kinsler, Navarro, Drew up

[ Huck8467 ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:33 PM

Navarro gets the throw right now. Putz.

I was hoping "Mo" would blow it and we would just take our chances on the road in the NL. LOL

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:34 PM

I'll forgive him for the previous throw but I don't have to like him.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:35 PM

I don't like Navarro. Haven't since the brawl, when he was just beating Coco mercilessly.

[ fc ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:36 PM

Liza: Exactly.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:38 PM

Please, for the love of god, shut up about the Yanks/Sox rivalry. Even people in Boston don't want to hear about it.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:38 PM

God I hate Fox.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:40 PM

JD walkoff, here it comes

[ caryn ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:41 PM

really? they're tearing down yankee stadium and moving it across the street? how did i miss this piece of information previously? thank you, joe buck, for showing me the light

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:42 PM

Damn that looked low

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:42 PM

JINXED!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:42 PM

That was SO low. Wtf.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:43 PM

Well, fuck. Drew hit his homer too soon in the game.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:43 PM

it's ok, another chance for Rivera to blow it. Lets have Tito make him throw another 30 pitches!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:44 PM

Who else do they have left after Fruit Bat?

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:45 PM

still got Soria, and Sherrill, and Kazmir (too much of a baby to pitch)

NL has Cook, Marmol, Lidge, Lincecum (food poisoning scenario), Webb (too tired)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:46 PM

So, it's probably Soria up next, then.

And probably Marmolade and Lidge going in the pen at the same time.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:47 PM

Yep--Soria's getting loose.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:47 PM

Wouldn't it just SUCK if this ended in a tie. Ahem.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:49 PM

come on TG.....this time it COUNTS!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:50 PM

Unless Bud says otherwise.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:50 PM

I'm exhausted. I want to go to bed. Why am I this enthralled by an All-Star game? Ugh.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:53 PM

Ok skank fans, each time you start cheering for fruitbat this inning he f*s up so how bout cutting that shit out

[ Ian ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:53 PM

Lincecum is not at the stadium. He was sent back to the hotel after being released from the hospital with the flu.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:53 PM

Mo was getting some advice from Pap--"give the audience headaches before getting outs, it's fun"--but at least the AL is up now.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:57 PM

Chutley would not have made that mistake. :)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:58 PM

If the AL wins this, JD deserves the MVP. But they'll give it to Mo.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 15, 2008 11:59 PM

Funny that they're pitching around to get to prettyboy Sizemore.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:00 AM

What did Mo do to deserve MVP? All I saw was an ok relief appearance. I really don't care that they're in Yankee Stadium, if he doesn't really deserve MVP, he shouldn't get it.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:00 AM

IBB'ing Guillen in favor of pitching to Fishy?

(Sizemore has fishylips, by the way.)

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:01 AM

That won't stop Selig from ensuring his beloved Steinbrenner gets what he wants

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:01 AM

Agreed, Kara.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:03 AM

Alright guys, something out of the infield would be awesome.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:04 AM

WOW

[ Erin ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:04 AM

How can they not score?

[ Kara ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:05 AM

Bases loaded. No outs. NOTHING?!

Some All-Star team.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:05 AM

Between Russell Martin and Miguel Tejada, that was an awesome defensive inning.

[ caryn ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:05 AM

did you know that one in three men may experience prostate issues?

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:05 AM

that reminds me of when JC Romero got out of a bases loaded 0 outs jam in the 9th last year in Oakland. Defying the odds! Who knew Tejada still had it?

[ caryn ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:07 AM

let's show some more random nyc landmarks that are NOWHERE NEAR YANKEE STADIUM.

[ Jennie ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:09 AM

they could show "landmarks" around Yankee Stadium but, um, that wouldn't be a pretty picture now, would it? :)

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:11 AM

as Gene Hackman told us in The Replacements, you have to have Hart

[ caryn ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:12 AM

i think the bronx county courthouse is a lovely example of art deco architecture. and the grand concourse was designed after the boulevards of paris.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:13 AM

another chance for the combo of Kinsler, Navarro, Drew

[ caryn ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:13 AM

texy, apropos of nothing except that i am thinking of it now, but did you ever read the "open letter to john fogerty" on mcsweeney's??

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:14 AM

calling the JD walkoff again

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:16 AM

You jinxed him the last time adam

Navarro bunts here

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:18 AM

I just didnt say what inning!

[ fc ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:18 AM

Can it with the predictions, please.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:18 AM

WTF

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:19 AM

He was so safe.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:19 AM

well he was 23 of 24 on the season. Picked a good time to get caught

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:20 AM

Did y'all know Brandon Moss was married?

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:21 AM

well if the ump just called Kinsler safe the game would be ova

[ fc ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:21 AM

I knew Mossy was married because he was talking about how his wife went bananas when he hit that HR in Japan.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:21 AM

Yep--Allie Moss is her name. Don't ask me how I know that, because I have no idea.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:22 AM

FUCK!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:22 AM

my gosh

[ Erin ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:22 AM

lame

[ Kara ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:23 AM

I think...I hate the world.

Yeah, that sounds right.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:23 AM

on this other board that I'm looknig at, someone called Navarro getting thrown out at home before it happened

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:24 AM

Let's go Car-los! clap clap clapclapclap

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:24 AM

Damn Devil Ray

here's a random fact for the day/night/morning Tim Drew (JD's brother) pitches for Bridgeport Bluefish and Tommy John

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:24 AM

Fuck.

Can this game just end already?

[ Kara ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:25 AM

Oh. My. God.

I give up. I'm going to bed.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:25 AM

still time to get Kazmir in for a couple innings!

[ lone1c ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:25 AM

Just get in from out of town and--top of the twelfth inning? Frak.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:25 AM

Tomorrow (well later today) will be fun. There will be a 1000 articles written as to why this game shouldn't count for home-field advantage.

Viva viagra

[ fc ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:26 AM

Liza, you know the rule about wishing for game lengths of any duration.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:26 AM

random fact to go with Danielle's.

I live 20 minutes from Bridgeport's stadium

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:26 AM

Very good fc. Way to make people stick to the rules :D

[ fc ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:28 AM

And I know that's nonsense, but still...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:29 AM

we've been living by it though all season.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:29 AM

Sorry guys. I don't care who wins at this point. :P

Did the ump looked really, really excited there, or was that just me?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:29 AM

the big question is, who will be left here until the end of the game

[ fc ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:30 AM

If Tito had any bench left I'd ask him to send someone in for me.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:30 AM

whether I should be or not, I will

[ Piney61 ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:31 AM

You know I bought hte book Red Sox Rule about Tito and such and they said how he is a bit like a baseball prophet citing some things he's said about Halladay, Matt Cain, and so on and being right on about them in and all. He had said the night before "I think we'll be talking about this one for years to come" which I find pretty funny.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:32 AM

I was reading that book today!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:32 AM

he sure sounds like one now Piney given what's going on.

I'd say he can send Kazmir in for you fc, but an extra large from D&D will get you through the day tomorrow.

[ caryn ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:34 AM

well, i'm glad i can continue to taunt dan uggla with my highly original HEY UGGLA, YOU'RE UGLY chants in future

[ Liza ] says:

Three straight pitches? HELLS YEAH.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:37 AM

As long as no one takes my Z-pack I'll make it, I swear

Here's another random fact about JD & Tim, they're the only 2 brothers chosen in the 1st round of the MLB draft

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:38 AM

Let me correct you.

All 3 Drew batters were drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft.

you forgot Stephen

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:38 AM

because B.J. Upton and Justin Upton were both drafted in the first round as well.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:40 AM

The two Drew brothers however are the only two brothers drafted in the 1st round of the same draft

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:40 AM

Oh boy... come on, Fishy...

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:41 AM

thanks Ian, I can only handle so much random facts this late and this sick...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:42 AM

you were techincally half correct because i think your sickness made you forget a word in your sentence.

hope ya feel better

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:42 AM

Wow, Martin is awesome.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:43 AM

I guess Hurdle wasn't planning on pitching Aaron Cook until the weekend

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:46 AM

Isn't this the shit?

[ Adam ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:46 AM

hahahah Bud isnt too happy right now

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:46 AM

he definitely didn't look happy at all did he

[ Liza ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:46 AM

I should have kept my fugging mouth shut.

Sorry guys.

But these Viva Viagra guys need to shut their mouths as well.

[ Adam ] says:

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:46 AM

after midnight, the viva viagra ads have sure picked up

[ fc ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:47 AM

Thought bubble over Selig's head" "My God, what have I done?"

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:49 AM

thanks Ian, Z-packs always work for me

I'll try a new fact: The only time Julio faced his brother he was 0-1 with a walk

And Julio and Hanley Ramirez have the same number of errors

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 16, 2008 12:50 AM

so far this season that is

[ Ian ] says:
on July 16, 2008 1
