With both the Rays and Yanks winning today, the Sox really need to win this one.

Lets hope for a playoff-like performance from Beckett. Or just a win, I'm not too picky right now.

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 6:58 PM

I agree. I'll be happy with any sort of a win right now.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 6:59 PM

A win would be very nice tonight.

[ Hurricane ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:02 PM

Is anyone else totally perplexed by the farnsworth / pudge trade?

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:03 PM

The Yanks must be working on another deal for somebody to replace Fanrsworth.

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:04 PM

Everyone wants to be a Yankee. :)

On a serious note, Pudge hasn't been happy in Detroit in a while and probably this has been in the works for a while since Posada was clearly unable to play.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:06 PM

Pudge is on my fantasy team.

Any word on the Sox making some kind of deal?

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:07 PM

That was quick, BecKett.

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:10 PM

BecKKett

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:10 PM

wow, hello BecKKett.

[ jules ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:11 PM

The Pudge trade took me by surprise. You know the yanks aren't done yet. Weird to see Tex in an Angels uni.

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:16 PM

I think Farns was actually tearing up when they talked to him about it. It's a little weird to me.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:29 PM

BecKKKett!

[ jules ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:29 PM

BecKKKett!

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:31 PM

BecKKKett

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:36 PM

I lurve Manny, but if we got Jason Bay I'd be pretty elated.

[ jules ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:36 PM

Manny to the notoriously cheap Marlins? That would be interesting.

[ jules ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:37 PM

I haven't been paying enough attention and don't know a lot about Jason Bay, but if Texy is happy, that's a good sign ;-)

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:37 PM

Can the Marlins even afford Manny?

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:39 PM

I think with any deal, the Sox would be paying a good chuck of Manny's salary.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:41 PM

I wonder who the Pirates would get - because Bay is a potential franchise player.

[ jules ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:41 PM

BecKKKKett!

[ Matt ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:42 PM

It looks like Manny to Fish and Jason Bay to Sox in a three way deal...more here http://www.fenwaywest.com

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:42 PM

Hey all! Detoured to buy gourmet coffee beans on the way home (my biggest vice). Did I miss anything other than BecKKKKett? :D

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:42 PM

I guess it would be Hermida and maybe a prospect or two going to the Pirates.

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:42 PM

BecKKKKett

[ jules ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:44 PM

BecKKKKKett!

Love that.

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:45 PM

BecKKKKKett is smoking tonight.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 7:51 PM

Pedie! He is ON FIRE!

[ Trish ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:01 PM

BecKKKKKKett

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:02 PM

Crap!

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:04 PM

SHIT!

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:04 PM

Crap

[ Angie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:07 PM

Fuck. This isn't looking too good

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:08 PM

Uhhhh...I go to change out of my work clothes, I hear 1 run score, and next time I turn around it's 3-0. WTF???

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:09 PM

ecl, you may have to go put your work clothes back on.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:10 PM

Hide the water coolers!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:14 PM

Cathy, if they were more comfortable I'd be back in them in a second...but it's just too hot in this house! :(

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:15 PM

Yay Papi yay..... :D

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:16 PM

Does it actually seem like Manny'll be traded? I don't know if I should start thinking of this as one of the last games he'll play in Boston.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:18 PM

Was the bullpen band just playing?

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:18 PM

It really does seem like he'll be traded, Lulu.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:19 PM

I Love the bullpen band!

[ EricaC ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:21 PM

I'm really disliking this lack of run support

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:21 PM

Does everyone in the bullpen play or is it just a few members?

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:21 PM

I think it's everybody except Paps.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:22 PM

I should have made my self more clear, what I meant is dose everyone in the bullpen play in the band?

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:24 PM

>:(

This is not looking good. This team has got to pull itself together!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:24 PM

Cathy, I'm starting to think you may be right about the trade. Who'da thunk it just a couple of weeks ago, yanno?

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:26 PM

This trade talk makes me sad.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:27 PM

Hey everyone. This ump's zone is a mile wide and a mile tall. Whee strikeouts?

Also, Sox bats: WAKE. UP.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:28 PM

Me too, Erin.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:29 PM

Me three, Erin and Cathy. I'm conflicted...but I'm still sad about the possibility.

Nice work, Pleats!

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:29 PM

Pleats!

Erin, these trade talks make me sad too. If Manny does leave, I just wish it could have been on better terms, and with our team actually playing better than it is at the moment.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:31 PM

Lulu- I feel the same way. If something were to happen it would seem like a very bitter break up.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:32 PM

If this trade actually happens, and Manny leaves on these terms, do you think that he will get booed or cheered in his return to Fenway?

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:33 PM

I don't know Cathy. He did get us two championships.

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:33 PM

:O
Coco....

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:33 PM

Coco!

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:33 PM

Cocococococococo!!!!!!

[ EricaC ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:33 PM

COCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:34 PM

Coco, will you marry me? ;D

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:34 PM

Manny... the guy just needs to shut up and play the rest of the season. After that's done, the Sox will decide whether to pick up his option or not and everyone can move on.

Coco! Loving the power and the hair.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:35 PM

Yooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuk!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:36 PM

Youk is a double machine! :D :D :D

[ EricaC ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:36 PM

As much as I love Manny, and all of my friends will verify this, I do wish he would just be quiet and play the game

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:37 PM

Liza, I can't see...what has Coco done to his hair this time? (ecl loves the microbraids)

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:37 PM

The Band!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:39 PM

I didn't get too good a look at it, but it seemed like his cornrows had been french braided into two big braids. Whatever it is, it looks awesome.

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:42 PM

lol, I'm trying to imagine Liza's description.

C'mon, Mikey!

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:43 PM

I think that's right, Liza. And it looks awesome!

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:45 PM

ok, well we closed the gap to one run.
Keep it up bats!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:49 PM

Crap.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:50 PM

This is getting awfully tiring to watch. Could we just get a solid pitching performance and score some runs?

[ Piney61 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:52 PM

Move on back two squares.... *sighs*

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:52 PM

I'm trying to picture Liza's description of Coco too. Will have to check the media for pics after awhile.

I am so not liking this score...

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:54 PM

In a little bit I'm going to switch over to Project Runway but I'll still talk w/ you guys.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:54 PM

What's up with the Yankees totally dismantling their bullpen?

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:55 PM

Can they do ANYTHING anymore? Can't hit, can't pitch, can't throw.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:56 PM

They must be working on a big trade to get some bullpen people.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:57 PM

This is ugly. And, from Beckett!!! Yikes.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:57 PM

I guess so. But their pen's been surprisingly stable thus far. I can see why they wanted Pudge Rodriguez, for example, with Posada out, but why give up Farnsworth, who finally seems to be finding his stride?

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:58 PM

This might be the first time I turn off a Josh Beckett start.

After today, this is not making me happy.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:59 PM

Awww, I'm sorry, Bethie. Was hoping tonight would cheer you up.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:59 PM

This is ugly. Are the Angels just this good, or are we just crappy right now?

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 8:59 PM

Cathy- Maybe its a bit of both

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:00 PM

I was going to say the same thing, Erin.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:00 PM

Both. We're lifeless, and they're good.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:01 PM

Is it possible for us to borrow Millar from the orioles? I`m sure he could get Manny straightened out, and lighten up the clubhouse. I miss El Bencho!

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:02 PM

Anyone know the last time Beckett gave up 6 runs in a game?

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:04 PM

I'm not to sure about everyone else but I'm watching Project Runway now. (I'm following the game online)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:04 PM

I'm actually surprised that having Papi back (and Lugo back in the clubhouse as he rehabs) hasn't straightened Manny out.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:05 PM

6 earned runs against the Brewers on May 18th

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:06 PM

Ecl, I read somewhere that Lugo's not with the team. He's mostly rehabbing by doing weightlesss work in a pool.

The hell is up with the defense tonight?

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:06 PM

What. The. Fuck.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:07 PM

Can we blame this on the upcoming solar eclipse?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:08 PM

My MS Paint rendition of Coco's hair--forgive the crappiness; I'm a terrible artist and on a laptop.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:08 PM

Fuck this shit!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:08 PM

He's definitely around, though, Liza. I saw Manny sit down next to him in the dugout during one of the weekend games, and I've seen several recent articles where he's mentioned as "walking around the clubhouse." He's staying in Boston to do pool therapy rather than go on the road trip, though.

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:09 PM

What.The.Fuck.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:10 PM

Oh, I guess he is there, then.

THE FUCK, DEFENSE?!

And this without Julio Lugo.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:10 PM

Heck, Liza, you did a lot better with your rendition than I could have. Now I get what you were describing, thanks!

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:10 PM

I sure know what (or whom) I'd like to blame it on, but I won't go there.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:10 PM

This game is making me cry.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:10 PM

I know we're watching some bad, bad baseball but that shot of the players moving around the field was pretty neat, watching the players all moving around like that.

Glad that's over.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:11 PM

I sure know what (or whom) I'd like to blame it on, but I won't go there.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:11 PM

Ah, that was a more interesting thought in my brain than in these comments. Sorry.

[ Angie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:12 PM

Ugh, that God awful inning is finally over. I really hope defense will step it up the rest of the game

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:12 PM

It sounded like a mad scramble, starr.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:15 PM

Hey guys. I checked the score before I came home and it was 3-2. I come back and it's fucking 8-2?! And four errors on the board?!

Are we really this bad? I watched Pedroia's interview after last night's game and he was talking about playing better baseball. So much for that...

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:16 PM

Something needs to be done to get this team back on the same page. it's like they're 9 individuals out there doing whatever the hell they want. They need to get back to working as a TEAM.

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:16 PM

Jessi - one of those errors was on Jed, and I swear to god that was not his error. Tek threw to second because of a steal and it hopped up and over the base and dustin missed it. Jed dove to try and get it and he missed it.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:17 PM

It was definitely Tek's error. Tek should've had two errors by this point.

(subs Kevin Cash for Tek in mind)

[ Kara ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:18 PM

Just checking in..

WHAT THE FUCK was up with that inning?!

[ EricaC ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:18 PM

It was definitely Tek's error but Jed was the one covering the bag not Pedroia

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:18 PM

Can there be a July 24th 2004-like game sometime this week? Maybe even tonight?

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:19 PM

Oh ok, thanks. I'm also watching the Cubs and Brewers game on Espn and the guys have spent the last five minutes talking about Manny. This night is not making me happy.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:20 PM

I like that Red Sox spirit!!! We'll need to get our bats out of their comas, and remember how to field.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:24 PM

Ok I'm going to try to be positive about everything...

- If Manny does get traded, it will be like that Nomar deal. After he was dealt, everything seemed to fall into place.
- The Angels will go into their Yankee series hot.
- Bullpen has been better.
- Um...

Oh god, I just saw a quote flash across EPSN from Manny "The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me."

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:27 PM

The mental health patient in me is beginning to wonder if Manny needs the services of a psychiatrist. Seriously.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:27 PM

Expanded quote: "During my years here I've seen how they [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them. The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy. I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don't have peace here."

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:28 PM

I was trying to forget about that quote, Jessi. But that quote pretty much says that Boras is in Manny's head.

Here's the full thing:

"The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy," Ramirez added. "I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don't have peace here."

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:28 PM

Seriously Manny - WTF?! Your attitude is almost as bad as this game.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:33 PM

Manny, Manny, Manny....

The Red Sox brass didn't make you hold the bat on your shoulders when you came in to pinch hit on your day off against the yankees and stare at 3 straight strikes.

They didn't make you pick a fight with Youk in the dugout during the Rays series.

And they didn't make you push around an old Man in Houston.

Or take yourself out of the lineup last week.

So Manny, for the love of god, put on your big boy britches and own up for your own shit. Your actions speak for you buddy.

Shut up and play fucking baseball.

The End.

(sorry guys, I'm just a little bitter today)

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:36 PM

Bethie - I think you said it PERFECTLY.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:40 PM

OK, I've got to get this off my chest, and I might be better leaving this unsaid. But, that's never stopped me before! For someone making twenty million dollars a year, I'd really like to see better behavior. I know Manny works hard at the game of baseball. But, I guess I just wish he'd work at keeping his mouth shut regarding the Sox, the money, the madhouse that is Boston sports. It's disrespectful on several levels.

What did Texy say about work the other day: the three things that have to be there to make it worthwhile? One of them was compensation. Manny is well compensated for his talents. If he's looking for peace, he can go out a buy it. Just do it already and ah, be quiet.

Done.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:40 PM

As soon as he started running his mouth last week I was afraid this would happen. We all know what he's saying to the media, but have no idea what he's saying in the clubhouse.

I think his attitude is affecting the team in more ways than one. I love Manny as a player, when he wants to play. But I don't want his attitude polluting my team and distracting them from playing the awesome baseball that we know they are capable of.

As of right this second, after hearing his comments earlier, I don't care if he takes his ungrateful ass somewhere else.

Just my opinion thought. It could be different tomorrow. :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:41 PM

Bethie...yes. Well said.

The spectacle of a nearly middle aged man...acting out, seeing how far he can push his employer, just daring them to give him the boot...it's ridiculous. And sad. But again, it makes me wonder about the state of his mental health because I used to do crazy shit like that before I got help.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:41 PM

"MLB.com says we're moving closer to the three-team deal. The Pirates could receive a minor leaguer from the Red Sox. Dejan Kovacevic says the Pirates would receive four or more prospects for Bay, as well as Hermida. John Grabow could end up in Boston or Florida. Perrotto says it could be expanded to have Jed Lowrie go to Pittsburgh and Jack Wilson to Boston. The Bucs also like Red Sox prospect Hunter Jones."
-MLBtraderumors.com

NOT JED. But they can have Hunter Jones. He deserves a chance at the Show, and that's not gonna happen here...

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:41 PM

I think this is the lowest I've felt all season. We need:

-Beckett to be an ace
-Manny to shut up
-Ellsbury, Tek, Cora, Crisp, and Lowrie to HIT
-A reliable bullpen

THANK YOU Masterson!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:42 PM

Justin Masterson is amazing and I love him.

The same can't be said for the rest of this team at the moment.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:43 PM

At this point I just want Manny gone. He is clearly becoming a cancer in the clubhouse, and despite his hitting abilities, this team would be better off without him.

i am pissed off at him right now, and want him to just STFU and play, but that doesn't seem like it is going to happen, so all I have to say is Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Manny.

I'm sure I will be less mad at him later, and be sad that he is gone, but not right now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:44 PM

My current feelings on the matter can be neatly summed up by this: Last night I removed all my active LJ icons that involved Manny and replaced them with icons of other players. If he stays and behaves, I'll consider putting some of the back in the active file, as until all this junk started he was one of my very favorite guys on the team.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:45 PM

I said this before, but Manny just needs to shut up and play his heart out.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:45 PM

Papi, you're wonderful. I needed something to make me smile.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:47 PM

I'm getting sicker of Manny by the minute. Let him go. I think he is weighing down everyone.

Grabow? Just checked his stats - 54 innings, 19 ERs, and 8 HRs. Not exactly encouraging...

Last AB by Manny? That line did knock me back for a second.

[ Jessi ] says:

[ Liza ] says:

Yeeesh. I'm not gonna lie: when DO said that could have been Manny's last AB in a Sox uniform, I felt like crying.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:48 PM

Sorry for the double post!

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:48 PM

The whole team just looks tired, and like they are just playing the games because they have to, right now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:49 PM

Yeah, that is depressing. There's still a part of me that wants everyone to hold hands and sing kumbaya and make things all better... D:

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:51 PM

I wish Torii Hunter would quit doing that.

There's clearly something up with the team, something that's making them.... just not themselves. I want to pin it on manny, but I still feel a little bad for doing so. Although, if I was on a team with someone making those comments, I think I would be a little down, too.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:53 PM

110% agreed, Ecl.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:54 PM

They need to have a team meeting as soon as this game is over.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:55 PM

I wish he wouldn't do that either.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:55 PM

If Manny goes, I'll miss his bat. I'll miss the times when he actually looked like he cared about playing baseball because he loves it. You can almost tell that now he's hitting that field because he has to.

But if this is the kind of stuff we have to put up with in return for his numbers, then we'll make the adjustment without him. I don't see this getting any better if he stays. I really don't.

It won't be the easiest thing ever, but resilience seems to be strong suit for the sox. They know when they have to step it up.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:56 PM

Do you think the players know this might be Manny's last game with them? If it is, I'm confident that Manny out of the clubhouse could only better the mood. Think of the potential "dream" line-up:

Ellsbury
Pedroia
Drew
Ortiz
Lowell
Youk
"Insert unknown player, maybe Moss for some time"
Tek
Lowrie

Oh god, how long can this torture continue?

And I have never seen Fenway so empty.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:56 PM

Again? ()_()*&^%$#

Liza, which post are you agreeing with 110%?

Can we have Hunter? Man is dangerous.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:57 PM

Oh my god...is he really gone?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:58 PM

Kim, WRKO or WEEI or whatever this feed is...they just mentioned it too.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:58 PM

Kim, all I can tell myself is that they said the same thing about the Lester-and-Lowrie-for-Santana deal last winter. But that scares me.

Ecl, the "Torii Huner needs to stop doing that" one.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:58 PM

Wow, I just checked three other sources and Manny is done. No more with the Sox.

Wow. Even with every I just said...just wow. I'm tearing up.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:59 PM

From MLBtraderumors...

"Will Carroll believes the Commissioner's Office has been informed of a Red Sox-Pirates-Marlins trade even though the teams haven't agreed on the prospects. Here's how he sees it:

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow"

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 9:59 PM

Why am I about to cry?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:00 PM

Torii is awfully good. I like him when he's not playing directly against us. Actually, pretty much the Angels in general. Damned good team.

I think I'm in shock...still trying to process what is being said here.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:01 PM

OMG! i don't know what to think.

The Manny era in Boston is over.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:01 PM

Listen everyone. The deal is agreed on, not done. HOPEFULLY.

That said, Erin, you are so not the only one about to cry.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:03 PM

All good things must come to an end folks.

It's either now or at the end of the year. We'll know which one soon.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:03 PM

Manny behaving badly or not...it's hard to think of the lineup without the DLP 3-4 punch.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:03 PM

While watching Project Runway I was following along w/ the trade rumors.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose about to cry

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:04 PM

Lets pray this is like that Nomar trade....

Does NESPN know? You would think they would mention it.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:04 PM

If this goes through now...or even if it waits until after the season, I wonder if and how much he'll regret all of this?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:04 PM

There's no way they pick up his option by now. But I want NEED him for the rest of the season.

Whoa, wait. Tek got a hit?!

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:05 PM

I'm still trying to process all this.....

I wonder how many people know (ie the team and nesn)

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:05 PM

I'm happy he is going to the Marlins though. I've rooted for them ever since Beckett made that final out in the WS against the Yanks. I like the idea of the underdog winning.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:06 PM

I guess this don't know....

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:06 PM

I'm sorry guys. This is obviously a topic I should not be talking about when I'm in such a bad mood

Didn't mean to help bring down the mood. :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:07 PM

Bethie, I think we're all sort of upset right now...it's not you.

[ starr4 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:08 PM

DO's sounding like Manny is gone. Well, tomorrow should be an interesting day.

I'd do it but I sure wouldn't like the rest of the season looking like this game here.

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:08 PM

...it's over.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:09 PM

Ugh I just realized I am gone from 7:30 am to 9:30pm tomorrow.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:09 PM

I'm without any news access between 9 and 3 tomorrow. I'm fucked.

i can has trade rumor/freaking out open thread?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:09 PM

:::sigh:::

I'm actually going to leave the WRKO postgame feed on to see what they say.

This sucks. Sucks. SUCKS.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:10 PM

So am I, Liza. So anybody around me had better watch out.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:10 PM

Peter Gammons says not till tomorrow.

The Manny Ramirez trade conversations are expected to continue into Thursday, according to a source. Because it's a very complicated deal, involving a player who has the right to veto the trade and other parts, it is still unlikely to happen. But the negotiations will go on.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:11 PM

Yeah, an open trade/rumor thread would be great, actually. Please, TG?

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:12 PM

Bleh.

Can this day be a do over??? :D

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:12 PM

We could just continue talking here.

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:12 PM

I'm really...REALLY going to miss our 3-4 combo.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:13 PM

Just got this from a Yankee site:
Yanks vs. Grabow
.563 BAA
.619 OBP

Awesome.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:14 PM

Yeah, Lulu...that would be probably the hardest thing for me. How can Papi not be followed by Manny, down time for injuries aside?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:16 PM

Jessi, that is a good point.

Plus, am I the only one freaking out about not only potentially losing Manny but also three minor leaguers? (holds entire farm system close)

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:18 PM

Liza I am also freaking about our minor leaguers. I just want to know which ones we would lose. If the deal includes either Lowrie or Moss, I will cry (more).

[ lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:18 PM

THREE minor leaguers? I hope it's not Lowrie...or Bowden...or dangit, I like everyone.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:19 PM

Golly, I hope we don't lose Lowrie or Moss. They're our future.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:19 PM

Golly, I hope we don't lose Lowrie or Moss. They're our future.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:20 PM

Oops, sorry for the double post. Server slowed down and I thought the first one didn't go through.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:20 PM

I think that if it's any of those(Lowrie, Bowden, Moss) then the deal won't go through.

The Minor leaguers are going to be the deal breaker.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:20 PM

I have to ask: How do the freakin Yanks give up basically NOTHING and get three of the best players up for trade? We give up a futre HOF and get average guys.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:22 PM

That's what I'm holding out for, Cathy. The Sox like their farmhands too much to give up the ones Florida and Pitsburgh might want.

"I'm going to Green Bay for Brett Favre" gave me a much-needed laugh.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:22 PM

They're the yankees. That's how.

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:23 PM

Damn you, Manny!

You have no idea how much I have wanted to not like you over the years, but I'm in love with you, and that sign is part of the reason why!

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:24 PM

Jessi, I was wondering the same thing. What the heck?

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:24 PM

I can't remember the reaction when the Nomar deal occured. Was it like this?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:24 PM

Cathy...I can't see what sign you're talking about. 'Splain, please?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:25 PM

P.S. I should mention that even though I'm pretty perturbed with him right now, there *is* still a part of me that loves him...

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:25 PM

before the game, Manny held up a sign that said, "I'm going to Green bay for Brett favre."

[ Mary ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:25 PM

I HIGHLY doubt that Jed would be traded. It's not just me clinging to him, but if we get who people say we're going to get, we wouldn't get a shortstop in return. ANd without Lugo.... why would we get rid of Jed?

*clings*

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:26 PM

Ecl, he had held up a sign that said "GOING TO GREEN BAY FOR BRETT FAVRE STRAIGHT UP" in the dugout before the game.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:26 PM

He DID? Hahahahaaaa....

Somewhere on line I saw a photoshopped pic of him in a Green Bay uni. Pretty funny.

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:27 PM

Cathy- :'( Manny can do some really stupid things but he can be so entertaining and lovable at the same time. Garrr....

[ Liza ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:27 PM

You mean here? :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:32 PM

Liza: D'OH! :::cringing at my own bad memory:::

Lulu...and he manages to look rather cute in his own oddball way while he's being entertaining and lovable.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:34 PM

Can we have a "we just got swept by the angels" support group meeting in here tonight?? :)

[ Cathy ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:35 PM

Manny has been my favorite player for about 12 years. I just can't hate him, no matter how hard i try(not that i try to hate him). But i do think that the team is better off without him.

[ Jessi ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:37 PM

I can't hate him either, though I can hate his attitude over the past few weeks.

I totally agree the Sox, in the LONG run (maybe not thsi season), will be better off. I bet everyone on that team knew something was going on and maybe that helps explain the lack of energy.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 30, 2008 10:37 PM

Are you guys staying here or moving to the new thread? I'll be up for a little bit. Was gonna do dishes, but fuggedaboudit. Those can wait until the off day.
