On a serious note, Pudge hasn't been happy in Detroit in a while and probably this has been in the works for a while since Posada was clearly unable to play.
Erin, these trade talks make me sad too. If Manny does leave, I just wish it could have been on better terms, and with our team actually playing better than it is at the moment.
Manny... the guy just needs to shut up and play the rest of the season. After that's done, the Sox will decide whether to pick up his option or not and everyone can move on.
I guess so. But their pen's been surprisingly stable thus far. I can see why they wanted Pudge Rodriguez, for example, with Posada out, but why give up Farnsworth, who finally seems to be finding his stride?
He's definitely around, though, Liza. I saw Manny sit down next to him in the dugout during one of the weekend games, and I've seen several recent articles where he's mentioned as "walking around the clubhouse." He's staying in Boston to do pool therapy rather than go on the road trip, though.
I know we're watching some bad, bad baseball but that shot of the players moving around the field was pretty neat, watching the players all moving around like that.
Something needs to be done to get this team back on the same page. it's like they're 9 individuals out there doing whatever the hell they want. They need to get back to working as a TEAM.
Jessi - one of those errors was on Jed, and I swear to god that was not his error. Tek threw to second because of a steal and it hopped up and over the base and dustin missed it. Jed dove to try and get it and he missed it.
Oh ok, thanks. I'm also watching the Cubs and Brewers game on Espn and the guys have spent the last five minutes talking about Manny. This night is not making me happy.
Ok I'm going to try to be positive about everything...
- If Manny does get traded, it will be like that Nomar deal. After he was dealt, everything seemed to fall into place.
- The Angels will go into their Yankee series hot.
- Bullpen has been better.
- Um...
Oh god, I just saw a quote flash across EPSN from Manny "The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me."
Expanded quote: "During my years here I've seen how they [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them. The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy. I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don't have peace here."
I was trying to forget about that quote, Jessi. But that quote pretty much says that Boras is in Manny's head.
Here's the full thing:
"The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy," Ramirez added. "I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don't have peace here."
The Red Sox brass didn't make you hold the bat on your shoulders when you came in to pinch hit on your day off against the yankees and stare at 3 straight strikes.
They didn't make you pick a fight with Youk in the dugout during the Rays series.
And they didn't make you push around an old Man in Houston.
Or take yourself out of the lineup last week.
So Manny, for the love of god, put on your big boy britches and own up for your own shit. Your actions speak for you buddy.
OK, I've got to get this off my chest, and I might be better leaving this unsaid. But, that's never stopped me before! For someone making twenty million dollars a year, I'd really like to see better behavior. I know Manny works hard at the game of baseball. But, I guess I just wish he'd work at keeping his mouth shut regarding the Sox, the money, the madhouse that is Boston sports. It's disrespectful on several levels.
What did Texy say about work the other day: the three things that have to be there to make it worthwhile? One of them was compensation. Manny is well compensated for his talents. If he's looking for peace, he can go out a buy it. Just do it already and ah, be quiet.
As soon as he started running his mouth last week I was afraid this would happen. We all know what he's saying to the media, but have no idea what he's saying in the clubhouse.
I think his attitude is affecting the team in more ways than one. I love Manny as a player, when he wants to play. But I don't want his attitude polluting my team and distracting them from playing the awesome baseball that we know they are capable of.
As of right this second, after hearing his comments earlier, I don't care if he takes his ungrateful ass somewhere else.
Just my opinion thought. It could be different tomorrow. :)
The spectacle of a nearly middle aged man...acting out, seeing how far he can push his employer, just daring them to give him the boot...it's ridiculous. And sad. But again, it makes me wonder about the state of his mental health because I used to do crazy shit like that before I got help.
"MLB.com says we're moving closer to the three-team deal. The Pirates could receive a minor leaguer from the Red Sox. Dejan Kovacevic says the Pirates would receive four or more prospects for Bay, as well as Hermida. John Grabow could end up in Boston or Florida. Perrotto says it could be expanded to have Jed Lowrie go to Pittsburgh and Jack Wilson to Boston. The Bucs also like Red Sox prospect Hunter Jones."

NOT JED. But they can have Hunter Jones. He deserves a chance at the Show, and that's not gonna happen here...
At this point I just want Manny gone. He is clearly becoming a cancer in the clubhouse, and despite his hitting abilities, this team would be better off without him.
i am pissed off at him right now, and want him to just STFU and play, but that doesn't seem like it is going to happen, so all I have to say is Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Manny.
I'm sure I will be less mad at him later, and be sad that he is gone, but not right now.
My current feelings on the matter can be neatly summed up by this: Last night I removed all my active LJ icons that involved Manny and replaced them with icons of other players. If he stays and behaves, I'll consider putting some of the back in the active file, as until all this junk started he was one of my very favorite guys on the team.
There's clearly something up with the team, something that's making them.... just not themselves. I want to pin it on manny, but I still feel a little bad for doing so. Although, if I was on a team with someone making those comments, I think I would be a little down, too.
If Manny goes, I'll miss his bat. I'll miss the times when he actually looked like he cared about playing baseball because he loves it. You can almost tell that now he's hitting that field because he has to.
But if this is the kind of stuff we have to put up with in return for his numbers, then we'll make the adjustment without him. I don't see this getting any better if he stays. I really don't.
It won't be the easiest thing ever, but resilience seems to be strong suit for the sox. They know when they have to step it up.
Do you think the players know this might be Manny's last game with them? If it is, I'm confident that Manny out of the clubhouse could only better the mood. Think of the potential "dream" line-up:
Ellsbury
Pedroia
Drew
Ortiz
Lowell
Youk
"Insert unknown player, maybe Moss for some time"
Tek
Lowrie
"Will Carroll believes the Commissioner's Office has been informed of a Red Sox-Pirates-Marlins trade even though the teams haven't agreed on the prospects. Here's how he sees it:
Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow"
I'm happy he is going to the Marlins though. I've rooted for them ever since Beckett made that final out in the WS against the Yanks. I like the idea of the underdog winning.
The Manny Ramirez trade conversations are expected to continue into Thursday, according to a source. Because it's a very complicated deal, involving a player who has the right to veto the trade and other parts, it is still unlikely to happen. But the negotiations will go on.
Liza I am also freaking about our minor leaguers. I just want to know which ones we would lose. If the deal includes either Lowrie or Moss, I will cry (more).
I have to ask: How do the freakin Yanks give up basically NOTHING and get three of the best players up for trade? We give up a futre HOF and get average guys.
I HIGHLY doubt that Jed would be traded. It's not just me clinging to him, but if we get who people say we're going to get, we wouldn't get a shortstop in return. ANd without Lugo.... why would we get rid of Jed?
Manny has been my favorite player for about 12 years. I just can't hate him, no matter how hard i try(not that i try to hate him). But i do think that the team is better off without him.
I can't hate him either, though I can hate his attitude over the past few weeks.
I totally agree the Sox, in the LONG run (maybe not thsi season), will be better off. I bet everyone on that team knew something was going on and maybe that helps explain the lack of energy.
Are you guys staying here or moving to the new thread? I'll be up for a little bit. Was gonna do dishes, but fuggedaboudit. Those can wait until the off day.

With both the Rays and Yanks winning today, the Sox really need to win this one.
Lets hope for a playoff-like performance from Beckett. Or just a win, I'm not too picky right now.
