that was a strange montage. Now time to figure out the band.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:04 PM

I'm sleepy.
Don't these people know it's a school night?

[ jules ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:05 PM

I didn't see the montage--was finishing cleaning the kitchen. It sounded like something about a bad day? Way to keep it positive, NESN.

I can get used to this west coast time--dinner: done. dishes: done. wine poured: done. Time to sit down and watch the game. I'm hoping for some serious Mariner ass-whopin'.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:06 PM

Apparently, Ricoh is now using the Citgo logo.

[ jules ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:08 PM

DO is the master of the understatement: "The road has been a tough place for the Red Sox."

We're a much better team than we play on the road. Time for some fire, boys.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:09 PM

Jon's left ear just waved at me. Apparently we can still see each other even though its owner is engaged.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:09 PM

Hey all...just dropping by for a little while before bed. Stayed up late last night and will be a mess if I'm not a good girl tonight, but maybe once through the order or something...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:10 PM

tampa bay won and the skanks are about to win. so the boys need to win.

[ jules ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:11 PM

dammit--the A's let us down.

We need this game.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:13 PM

Joe C sounds like he has a cold.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:13 PM

Pedey Bear cannot be stopped.

[ jules ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:14 PM

Pleats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacoby needs to drink what he's drinking.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:14 PM

He continues to amaze.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:15 PM

I sure hope you weren't dissin' my dear Jonnie's ears, fc.

Also: ideal game start time would be 8:30 pm.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:16 PM

7:05 is fine by me. These late games suck. Although tomorrow night is the last 10 PM start of the season.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:17 PM

8:30 I could do. I'll be glad when this week is over.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:18 PM

Dissin' Jonnie's ears? Never. I'm totally infatuated with them. Among other attributes, but I'll stop at the ears for now.

[ Meghan ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:20 PM

Aaah, the beloved Safeco train horn.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:20 PM

Were you looking at his Fenway Frank again fc? LOL.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:21 PM

Ichiro looked REALLY dumb on that last pitch.

BRYAN LAHAIR! (hearts)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:21 PM

7:00 pm is too early - I'm lucky if I make it home from work by 7:30 or 8. 8:30 would be early enough to avoid falling asleep, but late enough to actually, you know, allow me to watch.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:22 PM

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, never talk about any player's "Fenway Frank" again.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:24 PM

that wasn't me. that was my evil twin.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:24 PM

If I was Ichiro, I'd come up to bat to a spoken word montage of all my famous Ichiro-isms.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:24 PM

7:00 is a stretch for me too, but as my schedule is somewhat flexible, I just plan accordingly on game nights.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:24 PM

Isn't that MHC's hospital right there. Brighams

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:26 PM

I'd tell Ian to behave but I set myself up for that one.

I'd make a comment about low-impact jobs in academe but I wouldn't want anyone from work to see it!

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:27 PM

Ahh hi. My family wanted me to watch Mr. Bean with them.

It was actually pretty funny. But my sense of humor is wack sooo

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:28 PM

Nice play by Washburn. Unfortunately.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:28 PM

you did set yourself up nicely but I will behave myself and not mention FF ever again.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:30 PM

OK, where's the strike zone tonight?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:31 PM

Awwww, Ian, nothing wrong with Feeling Frisky! ;)

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:31 PM

you're guess is as good as mine fc

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:34 PM

Nice play by Mikey - I almost thought that was through.

Hi all!

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:34 PM

Nice one, Mikey, even if you couldn't get both.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:34 PM

Lester's ERA is 8.00+ at Safeco.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:35 PM

(Pssst, Ian, read what you wrote - I know YOU'RE smarter than that.)

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:35 PM

hey if you hadn't heard, bryan lahair is from worcester

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:36 PM

Bryan LaHair! As DO mentioned, he was born in Worcester, and as Remy is saying now, he did actually grow up a Sox fan.

Thanks, Bryan!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:37 PM

muchos gracias fc. i friggin do that all the time.

dumbass ian it's your not you're

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:37 PM

Yikes, let's hope that ERA improves tonight.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:37 PM

I still hold out hope Tommy Glavine ends up somehow on the Sox. He raised all his kids to be Sox fans, like he was.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:38 PM

i was kidding liza. there was no need for DO to mention twice that he was from Worcester but then again that's why he's announcer boy and i'm here on my couch.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:40 PM

Oh I know, Ian--my computer's being slow, so I didn't see your comment before mine posted.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:41 PM

Tek has a hit! YAY!

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:42 PM

Yay Varitek!

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:43 PM

Yay El Capitan!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:44 PM

jed you dropped your shoulder. but it's ok. get'em next time.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:45 PM

Tek and Jacoby getting hits?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:45 PM

Tek AND Jacoby get hits? BIZARRE.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:46 PM

Sshhhh. If it's a dream, this time I don't want to wake up.

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:46 PM

Hey, Jacoby gets hits a lot more often than Tek.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:47 PM

Up is down and down is up?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:47 PM

Left is right and right is left?

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:48 PM

But apparently out is stull out.

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:48 PM

The world must be all sorts of screwed up if they get hits and Petey flies out to left.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:48 PM

(sigh)....I was hoping...

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:48 PM

Saying Jacoby gets hits a lot more than Tek is like saying someone makes a lot fewer errors than Julio Lugo. It's hard to do worse.

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:48 PM

Aw, Pedey.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:48 PM

Or still. Whichever.

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:50 PM

Well, that is true.
But Jacoby isn't much of a hitting machine.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:50 PM

That was my point.

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:51 PM

Wooo runners on 2 and 3 with Ian Kinsler up.
:x

[ Kate ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:51 PM

Dammit I'm confusing myself.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:52 PM

Ellsbury will be fine. As long as Tek continues to get the job done behind the plate, that's what matters. His hitting will come around soon enough.

I do agree with what RemDawg said during the pre-game show. Ellsbury needs use his speed by trying to bunt for a basehit.

[ Lulu ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:52 PM

Reading this thread and the Mariner's open game thread at the same time is quite interesting.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:54 PM

And now, my favorite Ichiro-isms.

"Yesterday when I played, inside my head I said 'I want to go home quickly,' and I swung and I was able to get a hit because I wanted to go home. Today I thought, 'I want to hurry up and get something to eat,' and I swung and got a hit today."

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:55 PM

"The ball became the same color as the sky. So, I wasn't able to see it ... I was sending mental signals for the ball not to come my way, because during that time of day it's impossible for me to see the ball so I lacked mental signals. I lacked in that area. Usually, I don't send mental signals. So, because this is the first time, I thought, please don't come my way."

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:55 PM

Pretty sharp play there by our little stuffed bear.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:55 PM

"If I'm in a slump, I ask myself for advice."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:56 PM

I'd still like to hear what Ichiro said at the All-Star Game for his pre-game pump up job.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:56 PM

"Once I turn 40 I can become a pitcher. I'm kind of serious about it. But I'll have to learn to throw a knuckleball."

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:56 PM

So apparently Ichiro does acid?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:56 PM

And my all-time favorite...

On his personal battles with Dice-K: "I hope he arouses the fire that's dormant in the innermost recesses of my soul. I plan to face him with the zeal of a challenger."

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:56 PM

Ells has a weird swing--that's okay with me, but the one thing that really bugs me is the way he buckles his right ankle in his follow-through. He doesn't do it all the time, but when he does, it takes away a lot of his power.

Lester has 5 Ks already? Wow.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:57 PM

Jonnie "Big Butt" Lester - fantastic.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:57 PM

Yikes! Can you imagine the conversations that Ichiro and Manny might have? Waaaaaaay.out.there....

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:57 PM

"Tiger is a great golfer, but when you say athlete, I think of Carl Lewis. When you talk about golfers or race-car drivers, I don't want to see them run. It's the same if you were to meet a beautiful girl and go bowling. If she's an ugly bowler, you are going to be disappointed."

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 10:59 PM

I lied. I can't believe I forgot this quote, which (after my experiences during the ALCS last year) I actually had taped up on my mirror at home.

"To tell the truth, I'm not excited to go to Cleveland, but we have to. If I ever saw myself saying I'm excited going to Cleveland, I'd punch myself in the face, because I'm lying."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:00 PM

what about this one thanking his dog for helping him in his contract negotiations.

When asked whose counsel he valued most during contract negotiations that began in January, he said, "Ikky, my dog."

"He said, 'Ruff, ruff, ruff,"' a smiling Suzuki said through an interpreter. "That means, 'Stay, stay, stay."'

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:01 PM

I would pay to see Ichiro punching himself in the face.

Now, all together" "Cow tongue tacos."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:01 PM

-1 Ian for the double comment

[ Meghan ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:02 PM

My favorite: "Playing on this team and seeing what is happening around me, I feel that something is beginning to fall apart. But, if I was not in this situation, and I was objectively watching what just happened this week, I would probably be drinking a lot of beers and brewing it."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:02 PM

After eating tacos tonight for dinner, I know feel sick thinking about "cow tongue tacos".

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:03 PM

Ichiro is fantastic. He was once asked what was his favorite movie, and he responded with "Miss Congeniality."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:03 PM

fuck ian give up using words that are similar.

it's now not know

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:03 PM

I had no idea Ichiro was so awesome. I am now enlightened.

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:03 PM

I never noticed until now that Justin Masterson looks very much like Billy Zane.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:03 PM

This is all new and wonderful to me. I had no idea about his reputation for oddball quotes. Very cool!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:04 PM

Abby, Justin says he likes to think of himself as Mr. Clean.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:04 PM

fc - he is a TRIP. In every sense of the word.

Abby - it's the bald head. It totally transformed him.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:04 PM

Asked which superpower he would most want, Ichiro said: ''Invisible. I could go anywhere and see anything and without telling anybody.''

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:05 PM

Billy Zane? (scratching head because I don't see the resemblance, but maybe it's just me)...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:05 PM

I like this one:

Asked his dog's name, Ichiro said, ''I would not wish to say without first asking its permission.''

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:06 PM

Mr. Clean, that's a good one too. When did he go bald again?

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:06 PM

Ooh, cool shadows--look closely at the Wii sign behind home plate.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:06 PM

Again? You mean Justin grew hair for awhile? I wish I had seen that!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:07 PM

Abby - In an interview he did with BPR, I think he said seven years as of this past winter.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:08 PM

Joe Morgan loves those Pleats double plays!

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:08 PM

We got infield!

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:09 PM

Liza - maybe it was the hit of Ichiro but I am totally enjoying those shadows.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:10 PM

now we need bats that produce runs

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:10 PM

ecl - by again, I meant I forgot when he shaved his head. I remember hearing about it but I am not sure I've ever seen him with hair either.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:11 PM

I know someone's said this before but it's weird watching baseball where the sun's out at this hour.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:11 PM

Me neither, Abby. I'm just curious what he would look like with hair, although some guys actually look better bald, even at a young age.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:15 PM

TEK!

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:15 PM

OMG OMG OMG
TEK

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:16 PM

See I told y'all he would come around.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:16 PM

It's very weird to hear people call him "Jason".

Also - WHEEEEEEEEEEE!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:16 PM

Nice way to start hitting again, Tek!!! :D :D :D

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:16 PM

That was a BEAUTIFUL swing.

[ aly ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:16 PM

yay tek!!

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:17 PM

Nice hit, Varitek! 2-2!

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:18 PM

I love it when I'm so articulate. And mature.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:19 PM

OMG I LUV TEK SO MUCH!!1!one! :-) HE IZ SOOOOO HOTT :P

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:20 PM

Do you ban yourself for text talk?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:20 PM

ZOMG LOLZ TG! ;)

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:21 PM

no way omgz teck iz minee

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:22 PM

Bonus points to Liza for using no capital letters, plus a superfluous 'e'.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:22 PM

OK, that's quite enough.
The Captain does that to me. Sue me. :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:23 PM

Pardon me, TG, but what does "1!one!" mean? Or was that just random?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:23 PM

I think you meant to say...

OMGZ GUYZZZZ jeeeezzzz :-P

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:24 PM

:::cracks up:::

Awww, Pedey. That Ibanez fellow got in the way.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:25 PM

I should have said "omqz"--a bunch of my friends (er, acquaintances) substitute qs for gs when email and texting.

[ fc ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:25 PM

I fear for the English language.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:26 PM

Pitching line of the night:

Jimmy Gobble (Royals) against the Tigers

1 IP, 7 hits, 10 runs (all earned), 4 walks, 1 HR allowed

[ Abby ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:26 PM

So glad we're almost done with the 10pm games. I'm off to bed, all. Have a good one.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:28 PM

fc, you are so not alone. Basically my entire school is like that.

Night, Abby!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:28 PM

And Rich Harden had a no-hitter going for awhile, too.

I can't tell you how psyched I am to see him in Cubbie blue.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:29 PM

Wow -- a 5-pitch inning. Love it!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:30 PM

I'm glad that half inning was quick, because now I get to "watch" the big guns one more time before I check out for the night.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:31 PM

Hey, TG, do you know how Ben Broussard ended up back with the Yankees?

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:33 PM

Liza isn't Ben Broussard with the Brewers since I saw him pinch-hit in the game tonight against the Cardinals.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:34 PM

Is he? I don't know--I lost track of him after he left the Iowa Cubs, and his Wiki page seems to say he's in the Yankees organization.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:36 PM

Ok Liza. I was wrong. Like seriously wrong.

I confused him with Russell Branyan. Same type of player.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:37 PM

Erm - do you mean Branyan, Ian?

Last I saw, Ben was still with the Yanks.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:38 PM

Uh-oh...WRKO has Jacoby and his "Vul-vo" ad. :::cracks up again:::

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:40 PM

Yup - he's in Scranton.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:41 PM

Ha, okay, Ian. I really like Broussard's music, so I follow him in baseball as well.

And thanks TG.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:42 PM

HAH!

"Ben Broussard, who now plays for the Yankees’ Class AAA team, got more All-Star votes than Rays catcher Dioner Navarro, who actually made the team as a reserve. Broussard got 535,177 votes, Navarro 533,276."

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:43 PM

The transactions page says he signed there on July 4th.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:43 PM

Just got home after Tek hit the hr. Sad, I missed it.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:44 PM

Interesting, TG.

Okay, y'all, I'm trying to get a decent night's sleep so am going to bow out for the evening. Will poke my head in for awhile tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of the game, and GO SOX!

[ Liza ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:45 PM

Wow. That's hilarious.

And thanks, Ian.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:48 PM

ummmmmm where did the game go. they went to a commercial

[ aly ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:49 PM

what happened to the game? it went to a commercial

[ Ian ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:50 PM

wtf is up with NESN.

they didn't even show Bloomquist ground out to Lester.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:56 PM

Just thought I'd pass this along

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/44725/Madge-in-sex-video-shock/

The ammo for the Red Sox/Yankee series just got far greater

[ Meghan ] says:
on July 21, 2008 11:59 PM

I'm really hoping the Fenway PA people play the chorus from "Material Girl," or something similar, when A-Rod comes up to bat this weekend.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:02 AM

"Helping him look for an apartment" is so a euphemism for "screwing him in every apartment in NYC." (/dredges mind out of the gutter)

Either "Material Girl" or "Like a Virgin" would be hilarious...

[ Karen ] says:

My sister's friend, works at Fenway. He is working on that.

[ fc ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:05 AM

How about "Respect Yourself." Naaaahhh.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:08 AM

"Justify My Love" would totally work.

[ Liza ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:08 AM

Did Remy just imply that Lester's cup was misplaced, or was that just me?

Aww, Jed. WEAR THE GAME, but make the play.

[ fc ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:09 AM

That wasn't good.
Could've been worse I suppose if it kept going up the middle.

[ Karen ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:10 AM

Aw, I miss Remy and Don. Mlb.tv isn't as fun, but the best picture quality I have ever seen tonight.

[ fc ] says:
on July 22, 2008 12:15 AM

Read Liza's comment about the cup then mine in sequence as if I was replying to her. Either I'm simpleminded or that's funny.

Aww thanks, man. Propers are the best. I wish I could make it to Fenway so I could dress as Madonna...not a big fan of girly clothing, but for a laugh I'll make the sacrifice.

[ Liza ] says:

[ Piney61 ] says:

I have to work tomorrow...I work at a Subway by the highway which is the gateway to the beaches here. It's a very surprisingly weather dependent gig. It's not so bad it can just be annoying sometimes. I just need to stuff my face before I head into work or I'll be eating everything in sight(I like to limit myself to a bag of chips and a soda...maybe 2 bags if I get ripped off on chip amount). I think I may have to get an energy drink.

[ Liza ] says:
