Mostly just watching TV tonight, y'all...have to get up super early in the morning so can't stay up late after the game, either. I will check in at some point a bit later, though...
fc, I'm still here...how would I do that? Buy a MLB.tv subscription? Or get a laptop or bring it into the bedroom? I don't know other ways to do that, so you'll have to enlighten me (you're welcome to add a comment over at my LJ if you don't want to clutter up the thread).
Whoops, sorry fc, didn't know you were kidding! I had an incredibly intense day at work and my head is still spinning to the point where I'm not thinking straight or humorously. I need a beer, obviously. And thanks for the love, BTW!
No affront, fc...on top of being tired and frazzled, I simply don't "get" humor most of the time. Has to do with a brain quirk that I'm saddled with. I forget, are you medical? If so, I inherited a few traits from my dad, who had Asperger. Makes for lots of social fun, not. I will say this, though...hanging out here is great bantering practice! I'm actually improving in that regard in my day to day life.
Howdy peoples! Just popping in to say hi. I'm not very good company today, but hope you all have a blast and enjoy the game. Pedey wants us to be happy! :)
fc, you can pass along to mhc that 'twill be I in the goddamn cubile farm tomorrow...not sure what time I'll actually get home. I'm taking a four-day weekend, though, so the homecoming will be oh so sweet.
Danielle, Lugo makes me laugh with his peskiness. He gave it a good try that last time around. Wish it had borne fruit.
Erin, they didn't get too annoying at the game last night til the end at least in my section. I practically lost my voice reminding the Rays fans what month it is since they seem to think the season ends tomorrow.
Erin - yes. He's actually from my hometown - another guy who grew up less than 5 minutes away from where I lived - and was drafted by the Mets out of high school. He was signed to play with UTexas, and I still blame the Mets to this day for that not happening.
I read in the Globe's notes sometime last week, that Pedey was all fired up because he hasn't been caught stealing yet (at the time, it was 8 out of 8 attempts) -- and that Francona had to sit him down and make sure he knew he wasn't allowed to try and run wild on the basepaths. I think someone's wanting to be another Ellsbury.
Naaah, fc, he's capable of turning on a big smile...but he definitely gets the current look when he's not pleased...or maybe just when he's in serious mode.
Since tonight's telecast was a last-minute surprise for me, I was planning on just watching...but I just can't stay away from my posting buddies! And with three more televised games this weekend, I'll have plenty of chances to really watch.
fc...cracking up! That is an old 14-year-old, I say!
Erin...I think there are others, but they're not here at the moment. And not being legal never stopped me for a moment...but then again, back in my day the age was 18. I wish they had left well enough alone, quite frankly.
I don't understand it either, Erin. I can *sort of* understand trying to curtail drinking in high school (and h.s. students buying it for their friends), but 21 effectively relegates COLLEGE students...legal adults...to the "punch and cookies" set, and I think that's just ridiculous.
I'm glad the game was inside because of the heat but it's still weird to watch. They need to make some contrast in the colors of the ceiling because you lose the ball too easily with the roof being white.
It was over 100 degrees outside on Monday when I was there. And to get parking in their lot, I had to arrive 1hr 30mins before they open the gates. So you have to wait outside or in your car. I was in my car, cause ac was better than standing outside in that. So could you imagine sitting outside in that? And the humidity on top of that.
We don't need to help convince themselves they're good we all get it they can play ball now it's time to show that we can play ball better yet that we can pitch
Btw that and the occasional lapses in game it sucks plus the fact that with my cable it picks and chooses which Sox-Rays games to show I can't stand it
of course they are Erin. And the jokes they make about our players makes me want to throw the tv. I could handle it if they were witty but they are sooooo stupid. And what really gets me is the fact that the stadium is filled with bandwagon fans.
I wish I could remember the one at the beginning of the game. I tried to block them out because I really really really hate rays tv. I will have to rewind the game later on tonight and get back to you on the jokes.
Pedey actually looks cute to me tonight. That alone tells me he's doing something right -- don't get me wrong, I think he's an awesome player...but he always looked funny to me before.
"And I think in his heart of hearts I think his (Manny) traveling secretary would have liked to have done that" said the commentator about that first pitch to Manny
I don't like to be Ms Manners or whatever, but holy shit are the Rays people classless. And man do I hope it bites them in the ass. I don't mind piss and vinegar from a team, but there's a certain line.
It'd be one thing if they were winning graciously and all and they were just piss and vinegar but respectful, but they just don't have any.
I have to agree with you Piney. Fans down here suck. They are bandwagon fans, which pisses me off more than anything. You are fan whether your team wins or loses not just for the wins
That was sad. So sad, in fact, that my mother--a life long red sox fan--decided that the current Sox batting order needed to be fixed. This is the point at which I suddenly realized that my mother, despite a lifetime of watching baseball, knows absolutely nothing about baseball. This is her batting order, also known as the line up from hell:
That was the WORST game I've seen in such a long time. The espn announcers would not shut up about how amazing the Rays are, the bullpen completely sucked, and Ray fans need to die. God this was just so sad.
Ok another rant about why the Ray fans suck. Espn would not stop showing clips of the drunk assholes waving around their brooms and fuckin cowbells. There were signs like "One EPIC sweep for first." What the hell is epic? You've swept us before and then we swept you. Other ignorant signs just said how much Sox suck. Excuse me but has your team ever made it to the playoffs?! They need to be taught some class.
With that being said, I appreciate the Rays. I'd much rather lose to them than the Yanks and they've made such a good comeback that you can't ignore it.
Honestly if I had the power to do so, I'd like to take anybody whose starting out as a baseball fan and give them a guide on how to be a fan and not an insufferable bandwagoning asshole. Not just with Rays fans, but all fans are like this. Red Sox, Yankees, A's, Dodgers, doesn't matter what teams. It's just that the new fans are just so cocky and think of basing their entire fandom on teh hatred of another team and it's pathetic and sad. I just wish I had the chance to pull them all aside and give them a handbook or something.
Piney, I get aggravated with any fan (not just new fans) who bases their fandom on hatred of another team. I just don't get the "hate" aspect of fandom and rivalries. Never have and never will, whether it be Sox/NYY or Duke/Carolina.
Ecl, I would not have minded as much being swept by the Rays except now their fans think they own the mlb. Every out and play they make it seems like the Rays have won the WS.
I'm rather bummed about the sweep myself. We had the game well in hand before the bullpen implosion. And then we were so close to coming back. Ugh. I agree, though, the Rays fan base has gotten more than a little bit cocky.
