After all the recent crap, I doubt they'll pick up his option unless he seriously turns his act around. But I think it's equally unlikely that he'll be traded before the season's over.
I quite literally have no clue. Objectively speaking, they should do. In a vacuum, his numbers (even on the slight decline) are worth it. But this is not a vacuum.
One thing's for sure: the front office is not reactionary, and does not give a crap how much shit the media stirs about it.
The only time I'd ever boo a player, personally, was if he was A-Rod or Barry Bonds. I'm a believer in cheering for those you like and giving the silent treatment to those you don't.
I've never booed a player. Like I was at this game and Lugo made 2 errors and then next time he was up people were booing him and I was so sad because it was at Fenway and they were booing him so I was cheering, but we were really really high up, so according to my dad "the only person that heard you was Jesus". He did hit his first (and only) home run of the season!
I'm pissed at Manny now too. I'm pissed that he's screwing around when they need him. I wish that he'd leave yet don't want to see him any other uniform either.
How awesome would it be to have a frame to put around your TV that you could throw things at when you were mad at a player... but would protect the screen?
Just stopping in for a bit. I'll be watching the game with my husband, who is out getting Chinese food. yummmmm
I'm already *sick* of Jon Miller. Shut up! I miss Remy & D.O.
My hubby's take on Manny: he's very insecure and is acting out because of the uncertainty of next year. /psychologist speak It's counterproductive because if he'd grow up and play, he'll be here next year and later.
Texy, years ago I gave my Mom a "Bad Call Brick." It's made of nerf-like stuff and looks like a brick (with the 49ers logo). It's soft enough you can throw at your TV.
I paid too much for my HDTV to throw anything at it even if it was protected. Knowing my luck I'd miss and it would hit the wall and hit the tv on the rebound.
Wow...just realized that we're on ESPN tomorrow night as well. Boo to ESPN, but yay to getting to watch. I'm going to do the mlb.tv sub as of 8/1 because I have a feeling that I'd get charged for an entire month if I signed up now.
ESPN has the stats for every single count. (For example: Ellsbury after 1-0 count: ---, Ellsbury after 1-1 count: ---, Ellsbury after 1-2 count: ---, etc.) I'm not sure if I like it or not.
I'm glad there was a delay, this way I only missed 1 1/2 innings. Just got home from work, and getting gas. So happy gas is only 3.88 now, 4.35 was getting old.
Jacoby hitting.....another run, this game is starting out nicely...and I believ we have now scored more runs in two innings then we did in two games =)
How do all of you feel abt the whole Manny thing? Do you think that the Sox should trade him before the deadline? Or just hold on to him for the rest of the season?
I am seriously conflicted about the whole Manny thing. He is a great hitter, and it will be tough to find some team to take him that is willing to give something Manny's value in return. But Manny is seriously wearing out his welcome, and this may be getting like the Nomar thing.
I know, right? I'm sooooo tired of Manny now. I don't give a damn about whether we have him next year. I'll worry about that when the time comes. Right now I just want to see him play ball.
I love Cape league ball too. My kids think it's great. Last year my 9 yr old got to go on the field with a player for warm up & national anthem. He was thrilled....
Jules, I've never used a Mac. No blue screen of death?
No. I haven't had to reboot my Mac at all for anything other than a software update. Solid machines. I've had my PowerBook for five years now and it's still going strong. I want a new, intel-based MacBook Pro, but I have to start saving more cash ;-)
I'm going to see come Cape Cod league later this week I think... My great aunt has a house there. I'm thinking about staying with her for like 2- 2 1/2 weeks next summer...
Must be nice, jules. I get a blue screen about every couple of weeks for no apparent reason...and with the tons of security I've got on this computer (and totally clean virus/adware etc scans every time), I don't think it's anything external coming in. It seems to happen after my desktop comes up but before everything has finished loading. The "details" say live kernel event, whatever the heck that is. I know zero about software so if it keeps on happening I may have to call the techies associated with my warranty plan...because it makes me really nervous to see that screen.
My friend got a bunch of Arod bobbleheads for free 'cause he knew someone who could get him some. Jake (the friend) took them into his backyard and had target practice with them. Priceless.
I was raised to hate the Skanks. And I mean that quite literally. When I was a baby, I had onesie that said "Yankees Suck."
Jon = fine piece of man.
However, my pick for best looking Sox player would have to go to Justin Masterson. No, not Jacoby. J-Mast. It's the crooked grin, the amazing calves, the bald head, the sense of humor...he's just amazing.
I was, too, Jennifer. My grandfather was an ardent Sox fan and my clearest memory of him is sitting by his recliner and listening to him curse out Billy Buckner in '86.
Jon is a lovely man, but...my favorite Sox player to look at is, was, and always will be Tek. I fell *hard* for him when he first came to Boston in 1999. That may have been one of the Sox' best trades ever.
I also think Masterson is pretty cute. But looking at him and Jacoby and even Jon in that way kinda makes me feel dirty, since they're all younger than I am. (Not by much, but I like older guys.)
Kim - Us Tek fangirls are everywhere. I see him as the type of guy who has no idea how attractive he is, which is incredibly hot. And ohmyGAWD that butt and those thighs...choice.
varitek came to the red sox in July 1997, made his debut that year in a September callup and played in 86 games in 1998. Took over as full-time catcher in 1999.
Sounds like my grandpappy, Melissa. I've heard stories about him. My first memory of a Sox game would probably be the one I was watching on my birthday at my uncle's house...all five of my uncles (yeah, five) were slightly drunk and were swearing at the TV. I joined in, much to my mother's horror. My uncles were proud of me though - I swore at all the right players.
Tek = amazing. How can you not love him, looks or otherwise?
Jacoby is gorgeous, but I've always been a sucker for the J-mast type. Plus, his arms...and his ass...
Looks liek I've come in onto some "Hot Sox" talk. The ones who talk about Masterson makes me kinda laugh because there's a kid I work with who looks like teh improbably manbaby of Masterson and Michael Bowden. It's pretty much awesome.
Oh and my vote is for Jacoby on pure looks. Add in personality and it's Mike Lowell.
As for the Hot Sox...I'm also a big Becks and Paps fangirl, not to mention Lowell. I also used to heart Trot Nixon (the epitome of a dirt dog) and Derek Lowe, despite his mood swings.
Okay, Cathy...to answer your question, what took me so long is that my head is generally turned by the ethnic look. So I didn't notice Jon physically because he doesn't have that look.
Melissa, how do you think I feel, fangirling about guys in their 20s and 30s when I'm a few weeks away from my 50th birthday? I am such a pervert, I know...but they're beautiful!
And your comment about your cat nibbling on your toes was so cute...
Paps, Beckett, Tek for me. Those three in one game makes me very happy.
Bowden, very nice.
Only recently have I noticed Lowell more. Still enjoy watching Derek Lowe.
things we have learned from ESPN scholars tonight....there's Manny drama...Jon had cancer...the bullpens been shaky...and don't forget the head circling to let us know that's Theo (cause we've never seen him before...
Ecl - That's got to be strange. A lot of the younger guys on the Sox are around my age, but the older guys thing is very much a personal preference. Not that our young guys aren't absolutely adorable and incredibly awesome players.
And yes, my cat has a thing for nibbling. He started in my lap, sniffing at my fingers on the laptop keyboard, then moved to my toes and the laptop cord. I had to move him into the bedroom so he wouldn't chew through it.
No worries at all. I'm used it. It was funny to me that I came back after taking care of some things while watching the game, that hotness was being discussed.
Things are good mhc, how are things with you? Better than the other night?
Oh and I think Javier Lopez is up there on my list. Tall, dark and handsome for sure. Add on the fact that he has a degree in psychology and he's on my *hearts* list :)
Sam Fuld is my perfect baseball crush: good-looking, smart (he has a degree in business from Stanford, and is working on getting his Master's in statistics during the offseason--he actually interned at STATS, Inc. while at Stanford), flashy defensively, and nice to a fault (he won an award for being nice, and then donated the money to charity).
Enough talking about Sammy--how about Jacoby tonight? :D
My Theory About ESPN Announcers: They are given five or so things to talk about due to their inability to come up with their own ideas. Because they have no idea how to expand on an idea and apply it to other topics, they cover their topics in the first inning, leaving them with eight more innings to cover and with nothing to say. Therefore, they keep shuffling the papers around, hoping to find something new to talk about. Occasionally they find an old subject that was over-talked the night before, and pounce on that instantly.
Topics of the Night:
- Shaky bullpen
- Manny
- Manny
- Jacoby's slump
- Arod
- Jon's Cancer
Melissa, now I miss the cat I used to have. She used to do cute affectionate stuff, as is typical of the little critters. I'm allergic and can't have any more. :( About the guys, I've always had a strong preference for younger men. The ones who turn my head at this point are the "older" players, as in the 30-somethings. The young'uns are cute but just don't look "finished" yet to my ancient eyes.
Yes, Ecl, that's his name. He only weighed about 2 pounds when we adopted him - he'd been abandoned by his mama and her owners. That was the first thing out of both my and my roommates' mouth when we first saw him, and it stuck. It'll be a little silly when he's full-grown, but oh well.
Ecl - LOL yeah, we thought of that when we named him, too. However, we also call him Trouble because he's always into everything, and he seems to respond to both names. He's such a sweet, curious baby, I'm so glad we found him.
Baby kitties are so incredibly cute. I and a roommate, many years ago, adopted a little tiny stray who was brought to our door one rainy night by a passing stranger who found her by the side of the road. She was just a few weeks old at the time. What a little doll she was...
Hi everyone! I'm new here just wanted to say hi and that I love the site! Awesome game tonight, and found the similarities between Giambi's pornstache and this dudes uncanny:

I may be too afraid to watch today. :( Yesterday was rather unpleasant.
