Pedroia extends hitting streak getting thrown out. DUMB

[ jenny again ] says:

fox sports theme makes me think it's october! SO CONFUSED.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:04 PM

ian - i'm ok with him testing the rookie left fielder. i think the wet-ish field slowed him down on that slide, otherwise he might've been in there.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:05 PM

BTW the 4 Red Sox starters in the All Star Game are Youk, Pedroia, Manny and Big Papi.

[ fc ] says:

Pedey thinks he's fast...and tall.

sry bout the double post...

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:09 PM

From what I read it will probably be Milton Bradley

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:09 PM

Thanks, Ian

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:10 PM

Most pointless heckle I've heard at a game:
"Hey Milton, Chutes and Ladders!"

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:11 PM

New York Post -- always ruining the Selection Sunday fun. It's supposed to be a surprise, Post!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:11 PM

MY FAVORITE IS AN ALL-STAR. WHOO HOO!

atta boy, pedey. way to avoid that sophomore jinx. (wood knock.)

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:12 PM

Most pointless comment I've heard today: Ian calling Pedroia dumb

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:12 PM

At least the Post only announced 1 reserve. That leaves a little fun

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:13 PM

Nice job baldy

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:14 PM

Ahh, the Post, okay. I too was wondering how the info got out this soon.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:16 PM

Hello everyone!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:19 PM

i don't really feel bad for kinsler because pedey's doing great, especially lately, but WOW kinsler's numbers are incredible so far this year. his bad luck that he's a) a ranger and b) competing with pedey for that 2B spot.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:20 PM

where's the amica pitch zone

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:20 PM

Kinsler will probably be the backup at 2B

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:22 PM

i sure hope kinsler gets the nod, he certainly deserves it in my book.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:23 PM

hey everyone.....hope you all had a good 4th....here comes the mustache

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:24 PM

It appears young jedi masterson was afraid of the pornstache

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:25 PM

i'd pitch around the pornstache, too. ::shudders::

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:26 PM

it's ok, masterson, ground ball out here. c'mon, kid. you can do it.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:27 PM

My 4th was pretty cool because my brother got married yesterday in CA.

They picked that day because a) he had the day off (he's in the air force. and b) they didn't want to forget their anniversary

What is up with the pornstache?

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:27 PM

awwww BISCUITS.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:28 PM

lame

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:28 PM

I absolutely cannot stand Mr. Pornstache. Never could. He is definitely in the top spot on my "NYY players I can't stand" list, w/A-Rod a close second.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:28 PM

let's get it right back, guys!

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:29 PM

shucks...at least it's only 1

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:30 PM

P.S. to the above. My NYY partisan cousin, for reasons I am completely unable to fathom, has a major thing about Mr. Pornstache, although when I helpfully sent her a picture I found of him from quite a few years ago, she wrote back saying "Now THAT is the Jason Giambi I fell in love with!" So I guess even she can see he has become totally disgusting.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:31 PM

ecl- I can't stand him either along w/ A-Rod and Damon

I do like Mariano Rivera though

*braces self for insults*

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:32 PM

You mean the Fruit Bat?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:34 PM

I like Rivera, always have. I know his skills are declining now, but in his prime he was absolutely amazing, the best closer I've *ever* seen, bar none.

I'm still fond of Abreu too (although he's only in his second season w/NY so almost doesn't count). Patient at the plate, really pleasant sort of guy, sort of reminds me of Bernie Williams in his demeanor (an old favorite from years past). He also has wonderful dimples. /shallow

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:35 PM

Cool. Gameday thread back after the holiday! Woo!

I need to find a way to get over my supreme dislike of A-rod. I find myself growling at the TV whenever they show him.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:35 PM

... that'll be ANOTHER hit for pedey. JEESUS.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:36 PM

Didn't Rivera tip his cap to the crowd at Fenway on opening day 2005?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:36 PM

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:37 PM

WHO THE FUCK DRESSED ROSENTHAL? THAT OUTFIT IS AWFUL!!!!!!!

AND HIS HAIR WASN'T MUCH BETTER

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:38 PM

He IS a fruitbat!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:38 PM

::snickers::

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:39 PM

TG- thats kinda creepy but funny at the same time.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:41 PM

I'll freely admit that Mo is no looker by ANY stretch of the imagination. He definitely wins my vote with his career history, though.

Bethie, I pretty much have to avert my eyes at the sight of A-Rod. Or Giambi. Or Damon. Even Jeter anymore, and he used to be one of my faves. I will say this about A-Rod, though -- he's got stunning eye color.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:41 PM

that flick of the bat and helmet was JD's southern gentlemen Youk impression =)

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:42 PM

is Jeter's at bat music the humpty dance

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:43 PM

kristina - that's what i just heard. o.0

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:43 PM

kristina, I thought I heard that yesterday when Jeter was up.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:44 PM

That is too funny -- the Humpty Dance?!?

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:44 PM

"Your little cribbage partner"

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:45 PM

fc - i'm dying over here.

c'mon, little ground ball here, little GIDP.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:47 PM

my plea stands.

c'mon, kiddo.

oh a-rod - "this is why i'm hot" ... ? really?!

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:47 PM

at least it's not "this is why i'm hot"

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:47 PM

Is ARod's walk-up music "Material Girl" by Madonna?

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:48 PM

humpty dance > this is why i'm hot

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:49 PM

it's too bad they weren't in boston. They could play some madonna and lenny kravitz when ARod comes to the plate.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:50 PM

nice jedi masterson

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:50 PM

down with the pornsatche!

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:51 PM

Ian I vote for "like a virgin"

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:52 PM

you have to like the poise of Masterson. He didn't let the situation affect him right there

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:52 PM

Pedey for president!

And Justin...please don't scare us like that again!

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:52 PM

Pleats!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:52 PM

FUCK YEAH! (!!!)

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:54 PM

i like this masterson kid. i really, really do.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:54 PM

Justin definitely has poise. I even noticed some intensity during those last two outs.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:57 PM

Moose is scared of Manny

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:57 PM

If he's going to hit him, why not just intentionally walk him

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 4:59 PM

unimpressed lowell is unimpressed!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:00 PM

"his hot zone is after he makes an out"

oh, tim mccarver. really.

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:02 PM

Gotta give Fox credit - that shot of Youk at-bat feet was pretty funny.

[ Mary ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:03 PM

I hate fox. I really do.

I'm tempted to throw the radio on and mute the TV.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:10 PM

c'mon masterson, little ground ball out here.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:11 PM

hey, lookit! pedey is dirty again! ;D (have i mentioned recently how much i love that kid?)

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:14 PM

tek, cora, ells ...

sounds like hits?

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:15 PM

Come on bats!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:15 PM

It's a shame that everyone's already gotten used to Jacoby's mediocre bat. And kind of waste of his wheels, too.

[ Danielle ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:18 PM

time for some real hits, no more HBP

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:19 PM

Well he's been bunting more lately to get on.

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:19 PM

Whoa, looks like Youk gave the goggles to Lugo.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:22 PM

well that sucked

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:22 PM

Apparently we can't steal bases against the Skanks.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:22 PM

I think we are learning a valuable lesson. No matter how fast you are, don't run on the Molina.

Radar isn't looking purty.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/sports/map/interactive/USNY0996?from=36hr_maps&zoom=8&interactiveMapLayer=radar

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:23 PM

Dammit! What is the matter with our Ells' legs? And the stupid FOX announcers laughed about it. (grrr)

On the other hand, that was pretty funny, Molina backed right up into Mussina during that catch.

[ james ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:23 PM

since when did molina get so good at throwing runners out??

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:23 PM

Girardi and this FOX team tongue-bathing Mussina and saying he MUST be on the All-Star team is ridiculous. He's not anywhere near the Top 10 pitchers in ERA or WHIP or even K's.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:24 PM

My back was turned so I missed Lugo in goggles. I bet he looked completely dorky.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:24 PM

I hate Fox.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:26 PM

this molina brother has always been good defensively. He's thrown out 42% of base stealers in his career.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:26 PM

they weren't laughing at Ellsbury getting thrown out. McCarver was laughing at the "Rear Window" joke he had made.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:28 PM

Nasty radar, Ian.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:28 PM

I must have missed the Rear Window joke, Ian. I'm a little bit scattered today...

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:30 PM

How can he not know that it was Grace Kelly in in Rear Window?! Yet another reason for me to hate McCaver

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:30 PM

sometimes ells looks like the rookie he is.

growing pains, kiddo. we still love you.

[ james ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:30 PM

McMcarvers "jokes" make me again wonder why i dont hit the mute button.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:32 PM

HEY DUMBASS: if the catcher's mask shifting really was "disconcerting" to catchers, they wouldn't fucking wear it. JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK IT IS DOESN'T MAKE IT SO.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:32 PM

since when did we get joey cora?

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:32 PM

JOEY CORA!?!??!?!? oh mccarver.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:33 PM

mcarver is an idiot.....nice catch Youk

[ james ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:33 PM

seriously, this announcing is just sad. how does he have a job?

Nice play Youk BTW.

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:36 PM

"A lot of people think you have to get injured to make a comeback."
Huh?

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:37 PM

Sigh....

I have a real problem with announcers who screw up players names, especially when they have the lineup right in front of them.

And it's not like the team who's names they are screwing up don't have it on the back of their f'n jersey.

Dumbasses.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:38 PM

HA, Moose, if you're skeered say you're skeered!

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:41 PM

awww Manny

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:41 PM

that one almost looked like a make-up call for the first one he missed there

[ Jennie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:42 PM

Glad the announcers aren't just bugging the crap out of me.

Love the pics TG!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:46 PM

little ground ball out here, kiddo - little GIDP?

please?

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:52 PM

Oh noes.

This is not good for business.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:52 PM

time to show off s'more poise, mr masterson.

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:54 PM

OK, that could've been worse.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:55 PM

ok, crisis more or less averted. now, BATS. THIS TIME I MEAN IT.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:55 PM

Now its time to score some runs.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 5:56 PM

that wasn't as bad as it could've been....bats would be good right about now

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:00 PM

how can you not score 1 run of Mussina? How?

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:04 PM

Damn

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:12 PM

Just an FYI...checked my favorite radar site and the rain is light and spotty throughout the area.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:15 PM

Adam - he's the best pitcher in the league! Just ask Girardi! (and McCarver)

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:18 PM

Well I do generally turn to McCarver for all my insight on baseball. I wonder if Tito will take Mussina on the All Star team, especially over someone like Lester/Dice K

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:19 PM

Like I said earlier, he's not even in the Top 10 in the AL in ERA, WHIP or Ks.

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:19 PM

and just think tomorrow night we get the ESPN guys

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:20 PM

I don't know which announcing team is worse, FOX or ESPN.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:23 PM

took them two pitches to tell us that casey is pinch-hitting for cora

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:23 PM

I don't know which announcing team is worse, FOX or ESPN

Depends on whether it includes Joe Morgan or not.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:24 PM

It's sunday night baseball so it includes Morgan

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:24 PM

Fox is worse when the game is on Saturday, ESPN is worse when the game is on Sunday night.

[ Bethie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:25 PM

Then there's the answer.

MUTE will be in full effect tomorrow night.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:25 PM

Eck & Harold Reynolds will be hosting the ASG show tomorrow -- and, supposedly, TBS is going to have them call the playoff games for them in the fall. YAY!

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:30 PM

great job by Fox for not showing more than 1 replay on Pedroia's foul(?) balll

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:32 PM

this game is pissing me off

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:38 PM

Okay bats...do or die time.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:38 PM

nice inning, timlins. you make me pleased.

ok, heart of the order coming up against mo. as my dad would say, THIS IS WHEN IT IS FUN.

let's go red sox!

clap

clap

clap
clap
clap!

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:39 PM

Nice to see a clean inning from Timlin, but otherwise this game has been dreary.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:39 PM

odds are if you can't score off Mussina, you won't score off Rivera. At least Iron Mike Timlin is back!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:40 PM

Agreed, fc. Not one of the more scintillating baseball afternoons I've witnessed.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:40 PM

i would LOVE to spoil mo's perfect saves record.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:42 PM

c'mon, drewski!

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:42 PM

Manny double play coming up

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:42 PM

ATTA BOY, DREWSKI.

MAN RAM! LET'S GOOOOOO!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:42 PM

time for man-ram

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:43 PM

well thats a good start

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:43 PM

good piece! straighten it out, kid.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:43 PM

Manny, the king of getting on base

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:44 PM

owie.

way to take it for the team, kid.

MYGLOWAL.

COME
ON.

[ Jennie ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:44 PM

That can't be a coincidence.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:44 PM

um can you please stop hitting Manny...they're obviously scared of Man Ram

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:45 PM

YEAH!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:45 PM

YAYYYYYYYYY!

MYGLOWAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:45 PM

Mike LOL

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:46 PM

ok, YOUKIE, your turn, kid. little poke. little poke here.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:46 PM

Mikey-Clutch

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:46 PM

Sorry, I forgot:
DREWWWWW!

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:46 PM

no sign of a bunt.....did joe buck really think Youk is going to bunt.

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:47 PM

love you, red sox line-up, keep battlin' kids!

[ fc ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:48 PM

What's with the target practice?

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:48 PM

Crisp K, Tek double play, gotta keep being negative

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:48 PM

jeesus. seven hit batsmen.

dad's best quote bears repeating here: THIS IS WHEN IT'S FUN!!!

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:48 PM

youk getting hit....don't like...tieing run at 3rd.....like a lot

[ Kara ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:48 PM

Surprised Youk had nothing to say about that...

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:49 PM

new life, cocos. new life here, kid. little poke. go get 'em. love you, need you now kiddo. c'mon, c'mon.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:49 PM

thanks to the guy in the blue shirt for preventing jeter from catching that

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:50 PM

nothing hurt, nothing hurt here, we can do this, c'mon sox. c'mon.

(don't whine, coco. still love you.)

[ Kara ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:50 PM

Come on, Coco, what was that?!

[ jenny again ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:51 PM

ok, captain america. you can do this. hero-time, tek money. do it, do it, do it.

[ Ian ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:51 PM

[ Kara ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:51 PM

COME ON TEK! SERIOUSLY!?

[ Erin ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:51 PM

Wow Lugo should do something here

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:57 PM

I had tears streaming down my face during those last three at-bats. If only, if ONLY Youk hadn't hit that ball foul...

[ Kara ] says:

And now I get to go get rained on at a bonfire. Awesome.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:58 PM

So close, so very very very close. :*(

[ james ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:58 PM

ump was very inconsistant with his strike zone in the 9th though. not that that is an excuse but it defenitely didnt help. that last one lugo missed was pretty down the middle.

[ Kara ] says:
on July 5, 2008 6:59 PM

Ump was inconsistent with the strike zone all game.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 7:00 PM

And it cost us.

And, may I add, Manny is going to be going for the ice packs tonight. Owie owie and owie.

[ james ] says:
on July 5, 2008 7:00 PM

this is true, i guess i just saw it multiple times there in the 9th. oh well you get that some games. win tomorrow and take 3 outta 4, woulda been nice to pull this one out though.

[ Adam ] says:
on July 5, 2008 7:03 PM

how many times do the Red Sox get a chance to go into Yankee stadium and have a big series middle/late in the season and then lose 2-3, split, get swept, etc. etc. Rivera was horrible that 9th and trying to give the Sox the win on a silver platter

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on July 5, 2008 7:03 PM

Would have, yes. As I said...so close. Just not close enough.

[ kristina ] says:
on July 5, 2008 7:03 PM

owell, we'll get it back tomorrow.....go Royals =)
