Open thread - yay! Moving must be/must have been fun.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:37 PM

I missed last nights game since I went to see Dark Knight again.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:37 PM

Hey y'all!!

Ready to see the sox sweep today!

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:38 PM

Can I tell you how much I'm loving Jason Bay?

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:40 PM

Yay a gameday thread! And I'm kinda in love with Jason Bay.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:44 PM

I think we all kinda love Jason Bay. He's been the right kind of medicine for our team, that's for sure.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:48 PM

Is there even a word that exists to describe out fucking awesome Dustin Pedroia is?

I mean really.

[ jules ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:49 PM

Hey everyone!

Happy beautiful game day! I'm just happy I get this game, even thought it's non-hd and their announcers.

Bay has been great. I'm glad to see the reception he's received at Fenway.

I won't be around much--we're going on a 10-day trip to Yellowstone tomorrow and I'm packing.

[ Angie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:50 PM

Aw that kid announcing the line-up was so adorable. I'm feeling very good about this game especially with Bay

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:50 PM

Yay back-to-back doubles!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:51 PM

Yeah--the kid was adorable. (Especially calling everyone "Mister.")

And way to go Dustin and Youuuuk! That's how you start a game!

[ Jennifer ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:54 PM

Nice to see that Mikey Lowell is playing - I was worried about his hip, but it looks like it's all good.

How about Jason and Jed? Our new guy and our rookie seem intent on being amazing.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:55 PM

Hey everyone.....Pedie and Youk, gotta love em...Love the article on Dustin, "I'm the real #15"!

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:55 PM

I'm as taken with Bay as anyone you'll find but the "Manny Who?" signs are uncalled for.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:55 PM

Its funny how much Jason and Jed look alike.

[ Jennifer ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:57 PM

Jason looks like he could be Jed's dad. =]

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 1:58 PM

I think his roster photo looks like Lance Bass. Or maybe Lance Bass' dad.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:00 PM

After that walk-off win and everyone was jumping aruond, I was having a hard time telling Jed and Jason apart. They look so alike!

[ Jennifer ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:01 PM

Man...that was an incredible game. I almost passed out I was screaming so loud. Only way I was able to tell them apart was Jed's enormous grin, and the fact that his hair was longer.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:01 PM

Jason could be Jed's long lost brother or something.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:04 PM

Hey, jules--thanks for the link. It's a great story.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:04 PM

No trouble telling them apart here. Jed's much more slight (kinder than "skinny").

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:06 PM

I wonder what the team is going to make Jed , Justin and the other rookies dressed up as for the rookie hazing.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:07 PM

Erin when does rookie hazing happen?

Last year's video of it was pretty funny!

[ Jennifer ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:08 PM

Man...I can't wait for that. Jacoby's still technically a rookie...wonder if they'll put him through it again. =P

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:08 PM

Whatever they decide to do, it will be hilarious!

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:09 PM

They happen when the team travels on their last road trip of the season.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:10 PM

It's possible Jed could be back down in Pawtucket by then.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:10 PM

Can't see why they wouldn't--who's gonna pass up an opportunity to haze?

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:11 PM

They expand the rosters, so Jed will be up.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:11 PM

fc- There is always the September call ups

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:13 PM

Ah, that's right! So even if Lugo is off the DL Tito could still play Jed. This is a good thing.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:15 PM

BTW - in that picture at the bottom of the ESPN article on Dustin, that's me and my friend holding up the "TEAM OF DUSTIN-Y" sign.

Of course, I'm the one with my head turned. Of course.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:16 PM

What are the chances Jed replaces Lugo? His defense and offense are so much more solid.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:17 PM

TG, Woman of Mystery.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:24 PM

Dice-KKK

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:26 PM

Dice-KKKK!

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:30 PM

I'm also watching the Yankee game and just saw one of the worst examples of base running by Bobby Abreau. Bases loaded, one out, and Nady hit a sac fly to left field. However, Bobby decided to tag up from second and go to third. He was tagged out and no runs were scored. Haha

Angels up 5-0.

[ jules ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:30 PM

whoa, Jacoby!

[ Anonymous ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:30 PM

Ellsbury on base! Nice to see.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:31 PM

Oops, I was anonymous.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:35 PM

Ugh Ells..not smart.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:35 PM

Hideous baserunning, guys.

[ jules ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:35 PM

Cathy beat me to it. Bad decisions in that inning.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:36 PM

Ugh. Way to ruin a potentially good inning

Trust me though, Bobby's baserunning made this look good.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:36 PM

...by guys who know better.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:39 PM

5-1 Angels....Pudge homered.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:43 PM

Dice-KKKKKK

Too bad Ks will run up the pitch out. I would rather have a five-pitch inning w/o Ks.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:43 PM

*pitch count

[ Karen ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:46 PM

Here. Slept in, enjoying my weekend off, first off days in 2wks.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:50 PM

Atta boy, Mikey Doubles.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:50 PM

Man, he is having a super hard time running.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:53 PM

Hi all, just popping my head in. Had to stop home in between errands. May or may not be back before the end of the game. Enjoy the game, and GO SOX!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:55 PM

JED!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:55 PM

Jed!

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:56 PM

I freakin love the Jed-Jason combo!

[ Angie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:56 PM

Man, Jed is an RBI machine!

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:57 PM

How could Tito put Lugo back in the lineup when Jed continues to impress?

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:57 PM

Lowrie's having a nice series, isn't he.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:58 PM

Jed has been on a tear ever since we got Bay. I like to think this is because he was subconsciously missing his long lost brother, but now that they are re-united, he is finally truly happy.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 2:59 PM

Yeah, Jed's not doing so bad. (He's driven in just under half of the runs this weekend!)

[ mermaidmarian ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:00 PM

See Jason Run!

Run Jason, Run!

Score Jason, Score!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:03 PM

See Jed tag!
Tag, Jed, tag!
Score, Jed, score! :-)

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:11 PM

See, Dice-K, that's where those walks will bite you.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:16 PM

::Sigh:: If only we could cut your pitch count in half.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:17 PM

Dice-k may be the most frustratingly good pitcher ever.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:21 PM

Where would Colon fit in the starting rotation? Clay's spot?

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:23 PM

HE DID NOT JUST DO THAT!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:23 PM

It's hard to see where else you'd slot him. Wake and Lester are firing on all cylinders, Beckett's still doing well (if not exactly 2007-Becketty), and Dice-K is maddeningly uneven, yet still managing to do well.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:23 PM

Who's more graceful, Papi or Sean Casey?

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:23 PM

WHAT?!!!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:23 PM

Did I just see that???

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:24 PM

Papi. Casey is the least graceful person EVER. and the slowest.

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:24 PM

Need a replay of that - NOW!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:25 PM

Wow--what just happened? Ortiz stole a base?

What's next? Eric Gagne not sucking?

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:27 PM

Ugh Yanks just tied up the game 5-5.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:27 PM

Ohh, Mikey is NOT pleased with himself.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:31 PM

Mossy hit a HR against Mets Zambrano! Good for him!

[ mermaidmarian ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:31 PM

Coco!

Way to work for the job security.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:31 PM

Woot! Mossy!

[ Kim C ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:32 PM

Ugh, Yanks just got a HR. They're winning 6-5

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:32 PM

And Nady just hit a HR to put Yanks ahead 5-8. Screw that.

[ mermaidmarian ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:33 PM

It is pouring buckets here on the North Shore. Can't believe it isn't raining at Fenway

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:33 PM

Mossy? Did Mossy just do something good?

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:34 PM

Fc - HR against Mets Zambrano.

[ Kim C ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:34 PM

Opps, my bad they're winning 8-5

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:34 PM

Never mind, already answered.

And in Somerville it's doing weird things, like thundering with the sun out.

[ Kim C ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:36 PM

FC - I wouldn't be surprised if it rained and hailed with the sun out.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:38 PM

Whoa - Kim, it now sounds like it's doing EXACTLY that. No kidding - loud noises on my roof.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:38 PM

Can we call this team the "J brigade"? there are so many J names!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:39 PM

Bay isn't very smiley.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:42 PM

Prediction: rain will hit Fenway. Soon.

[ mermaidmarian ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:43 PM

Boner move.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:43 PM

Didn't Tek get a hit today?

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:44 PM

Out here in New Mexico, we get thunderstorms with the sun out fairly often. We also have times where it's sunny where you're standing, but you can clearly see a thunderstorm off in the distance.

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:44 PM

Woah! You can hear the thunder on TV! I miss weather. :(

[ Angie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:44 PM

Jeez those dark clouds look FREAKY. I'm glad I'm not there

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:45 PM

Nooooo. I wanna watch baseball!

[ Kim C ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:45 PM

And the tarp is on.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:47 PM

You know when you can hear the thunder online it's bad.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:49 PM

It was LOUD. Scared the kitty upstairs and under the bed.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:51 PM

YES! A grand slam gives the Angels the lead 9-8!

[ Kim C ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:52 PM

WOOOO HOOOOO!

[ Rachel O ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:53 PM

it was The Big Tex! Welcome to the Angels and beat those Yanks!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:54 PM

Wohoo Angels!!!!

I'll guess I'll have to take shower now. :(

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 3:55 PM

I'm doing laundry and washing my two favorite Sox sweatshirts (WAY overdue!). Wish me good washing karma! I'm so afraid I'm going to wreck them.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:02 PM

Annddd the Yanks tie it up with two hits, a stolen base, and a wild throw.

Still no one out.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:02 PM

*Wild throw by catcher to third base trying to catch the guy stealing

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:05 PM

@&(#in' Yankees!

In not nearly so sucktastic news, Detroit's scored again in the top of the 8th to make it 3-1 over TB. . . .

[ Rachel O ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:06 PM

ugh well that lead was short-lived!

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:06 PM

Rain's done, sun is out now,
It shouldn't be long before they pull up that tarp.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:11 PM

Ugh. While they do that we get Sox Appeal, instead of the rest of the Ultimate Red Sox Show where we could've watched Youk & Pedey holding their batting clinic for kids.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:12 PM

Yanks take lead on what should've been an inning-ending DP from A-Rod but the damn third baseman dropped the ball. Bases still loaded, still one out.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:14 PM

Yanks now lead 12-9...I hate baseball.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:19 PM

Sounds like quite the defensive game they have going there.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:22 PM

And of course TB's now up 4-3.

Idiot Tigers and Angels. Can't they do their frickin' jobs? (Namely, take the fall when we play them, and beat up the rest of the division?)

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:22 PM

And now the Rays are ahead 4-3 too. :(

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:24 PM

Good job Coco.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:26 PM

Detroit ties it up 4-4

[ Angie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:32 PM

Ugh Yankees won 14-9

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:33 PM

Yanks win 14-9. Good news is that usually when they have a huge offensive outburst, their bats quiet a bit for the next few games.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:34 PM

Ouch--one off-day for Oakland in all of August? (And I thought our schedule this year sucked.)

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:43 PM

Youk!

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:44 PM

Second-half slump? I think not.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:45 PM

Fc - exactly my thoughts.

I'm suprised they're walking Ortiz with only one out.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:45 PM

I'm totally loving watching Pedroia and Youk battle for batting average lead. It's awesome.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:46 PM

Youk KNOW they're trash-talking each other in the clubhouse.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:47 PM

Detroit leads 5-4 in the 10th

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:49 PM

Weather update: sun-pouring again in Somerville, so Fenway should expect a shower too.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:55 PM

Just discovered who blew the game for Detroit: ex-Yankee Kyle Farnsworth. In one inning he gave up two HRs (one was Eric Hinske) and 3 ERs.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:56 PM

Um...Frank Thomas and mdc.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 4:57 PM

Phew.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:09 PM

RI looks like Vermont.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:16 PM

When I heard Jed has 18 RBIs, I decided to check his and Lugo's stats...

Lugo: 261 AB / 27 R / 70 H / 13 2B / 22 RBI / 1 HR / .268 AVG
Jed: __ 85 AB / 8 R / 25 H / 6 2B / 18 RBI / 1 HR/ .294 AVG

Lugo has 16 E in 81 games, Jed none in 34 games.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:16 PM

Wooot! Sweep!!!!!!!

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:16 PM

YEEEAAAAH!!
Thant felt good.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:16 PM

GAME! What a nice series. I think everyone needed that.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:16 PM

Nice

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:18 PM

Rays have bases loaded, one out in the 10th.

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:20 PM

And they tied it up and I shut it off. :(

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:23 PM

Look at Tito all proud of his boy.

[ Twinkie ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:25 PM

I want to meet the people who were chanting Jack Cust's average at him the whole game. They're my new heroes. I hate Cust so much and was bummed that he didn't play when I was there last night. Not like he would have heard anything I said, but still...

[ Ian ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:27 PM

Rays won. Rodney walked in the winning run with 2 outs

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:28 PM

My family kinda knows Cust...went to my brother's high school.

I hate Rays and Yanks.

[ fc ] says:
on August 3, 2008 5:35 PM

I refuse to not enjoy this sweepy goodness because of Rays and Yanks.
