Hey y'all!

Back from vacation, missed a lot of Sox games (saw one while in Boise). I wish I couid've seen the 19-17 game! Yesterday's game was a wreck. Let's hope our bats wake up and we win this one.

I'm here. Was supposed to work, however due to the storm, I stayed home to prepare. Now bored, waiting. Feel like I should be doing something, but can't go anywhere.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:05 PM

I'm here. Just getting ducks in a row after work. Have to make a phone call and scrounge up dinner, then will be multitasking as I follow the game. So many things, so little time...will check back in a bit.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:06 PM

Wellcome back Jules!

And be careful in that nasty weather, Karen. Looks like it might creep into my neck of the woods when it's finished with your area.

Come on Sox!!! The playoffs are coming and we have to start playing like we wanna BE THERE!!! Dammit.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:10 PM

Oh the mlb.tv local announcers, oh yeah. It's like Christmas for the weather channel, they love this stuff. Yeah we have a ts warning, and now a tornado warning, gets better by the minute. I have all the shutters up, I am good.

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:14 PM

Papi!

Thanks, Bethie. We were in Yellowstone and it was spectacular! Truly breathtaking. We saw black bears, grizzly bears, a bull mouse(!), coyote, fox, osprey chicks, bald eagle, and a bazillion bison. I'll post photos later.

The downside of the trip was getting pulled over in the wastelands of Nevada. I was doing 78 in a 75 zone. The jerk said I was doing 102! Now I have to take a day or two off work, and drive six hours one way to fight it.

Bummer. I was hoping for some runs!

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:14 PM

As long as you don't catch Jim Cantore roaming around. Anywhere he goes the uber bad stuff follows. he he

I always tell my parents if we have bad weather coming and he's anywhere in town, I'm getting the hell out of dodge.

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:14 PM

Karen, where are you?

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:16 PM

I had to look Jim Cantore up. You'll love this from Wikipedia: Cantore has reported from so many hurricanes that residents along the coast have given him the nickname "The Angel of Death".

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:16 PM

That sucks Jules. I wish they could find a way to have a lawyer or someone go in on your behalf so that you wouldn't have to drive 6 freaking hours to contest it.

And how the heck did he get 3 digits on his radar gun out of a 78 in a 75??

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:18 PM

I am on the east coast, Vero Beach. I am supposed to get the bottom part of it. It will be a hurricane cat. 1 when it hits, not too bad, I was in town for a cat. 4. Yeah Cantore is on the other coast, although some of his coworkers are down the street.
Jules, where in Nv were you? Also I noticed you said you were in Boise. I have a friend moving there, wonder what's it like.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:19 PM

That's just about the truth Jules! Accurate nickname. He brings the destruction with him, and they always send him out to stand in the middle of record breaking blizzards. Poor guy.

I love quick, 8 pitch half innings!! Woo hoo!!

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:20 PM

That's the rub. He said he clocked me at 102. He also said that I passed him (never saw him and I know what their HP cars look like). He said I was flying down the road. The funny thing is that I had just gone through a long construction zone and had my cruise control at 55.

Also, I was driving my *husband's* Rav-4. Rav-4, not a Porche!

I'm calling a lawyer to see what my options are.

Gotta run for a bit. Kidlet needs school supplies. By tomorrow!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:20 PM

Cracking up about Jim Cantore -- before I read ahead I was thinking to myself that he must be in his glory right about now.

Bethie...we NEED the rain -- I'm looking forward to it! I think we're due on Saturday.

And jules, that really sucks about the speeding thing. Ugh.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:20 PM

BAY!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:20 PM

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:20 PM

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:21 PM

Good evening everyone....just turned on the TV....BAY!

[ Bethie ] says:

JAY BAY!!!

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:21 PM

Jason!!!!!!

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:23 PM

Karen,

real quick before I run out...Boise is very nice. The downtown is great. They have the Cubbies A team and Boise State sports is *huge*. It's an arid climate and the housing is cheaper than CA. Your friend should like it a lot.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:23 PM

Ha, I was so excited about that I posted twice.

And Jed sure knocked the snot out of that one. Shoulda been a homer.

Yeah, faith. We do need the rain. But they are saying it might get here on Thursday and I have an outdoor concert to go to. I'm hoping the will reschedule it. I hope I hope.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:24 PM

TEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:24 PM

TEK...this is definetly a better start then yesterday

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:24 PM

It's the attack of the Jasons!!!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:25 PM

TEK!!!!

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:25 PM

Attack of the Jasons... I like that!

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:29 PM

Just got in and saw on GameDay that Bay and Tek homered. Yay!

ecl- hahaha. "Attack of the Jasons." That's brilliant.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:31 PM

Bethie, who said it will get here on Thursday? I haven't been following the Weather Channel predictions, but the National Weather Service and Weather Underground both have it tracking farther west than was earlier thought...more towards Georgia/Alabama. As of Thursday it's supposed to be just crossing from Florida into southern Georgia.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:32 PM

Thank you Mac. :::brushes self off in triumph:::

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:32 PM

Oops -- and thank you too, Mary!

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:33 PM

I heard that on the weather this weekend. It might have changed by now which is good news. I like your forecast better. :)

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:38 PM

Way to go Tek. Sorry the comment was late, was giving my mom a weather update. She is out of state, and it's her condo.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:40 PM

Bethie, here ya go:

http://tinyurl.com/6am5oj

I just hope we get some rain someday. It's getting scary. The water pressure at my mom's in Hend'vl was noticeably low yesterday.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:43 PM

Thanks Faith. That looks a little better than what they had been saying. Looks like we won't get much of it here.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:43 PM

"Kevin Millar with those quick feet helping him out."

When did Millar get quick feet?

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:48 PM

I just noticed, Pedey shaved. Yeah, I didn't like the beard.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:50 PM

Did anyone catch the Kevin Millar "music video" during the pregame...I was speechless

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:52 PM

The "Oriole Magic" one, Kristin?

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:53 PM

No I didn't catch the video. They usually don't show that stuff on mlb.tv

[ Kate ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:56 PM

Hi guys.

Random bit of info: Brian Roberts is my desktop background. Heh.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:56 PM

Yes, that one Cathy...maybe one our technologically talented friends can post it

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 7:57 PM

Kristin, I didn't see it either. I wish they would show that kind of stuff on mlb.tv.

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:00 PM

Oh, it was "Orioles Magic?" I love that video. It was up on YouTube and dailymotion three or four months ago, but MLB made them take it down.

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:05 PM

I saw that video, it's so bad it's good. heeheeehee

MLB spoils all the video fun.

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:06 PM

damn.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:06 PM

Oh man.

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:07 PM

Dammit

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:07 PM

Crap. Don't let that happen again, Lester.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:07 PM

I can't believe the Angels are getting beat by the Rays. They cruise through the AL and beat up on everyone else, and they Rays are beating them.

Weird I tell you.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:08 PM

Well, let's look at it this way. He's 7 runs shy in the 4th inning of what Beckett gave up in 2 innings yesterday.

So it's not all THAT bad. :)

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:09 PM

Am I the only one who caught the "thrown as high as Casey is tall"?

I think that's hilarious.

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:11 PM

Mary - I don't think I caught that. Hilarious, though.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:12 PM

I missed that one Mary, but I'm wondering what a Casey-Millar first base conversation would be like

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:15 PM

I guess Youk tossed one to first and it was a high toss so they said "He threw that as high as Casey is tall" and they cracked up and started talking about how tall he is and that they should "work it into out repertoire."

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:28 PM

These O's announcers obviously don't like Bay's predecessor.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:40 PM

:::tumbleweeds:::

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:42 PM

Hahaha, ecl. It's been awfully quiet here tonight.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:43 PM

Sorry, I'm over here thinking about mental squeezes. Has me slightly distracted.

I want Masterson to pitch in relief today.

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:44 PM

It is quiet....

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:45 PM

I'm completely expecting everyone to start commenting on how quiet it's been hehehe.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:47 PM

:::cracking up at Bethie and the mental squeezes:::

I'll be less quiet after I get some food into me. Just a couple of minutes.

Aw dammit Coco...

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:49 PM

I kinda miss Dustin's scruff.
He looks 12 again without it.

[ Kate ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:50 PM

Kinsler put on disabled list
Infielder may miss rest of season

AHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT
sorry I couldn't help it.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:50 PM

WRKO says he shaved cause it was getting "itchy"

Adorable little hot pocket.

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:55 PM

Ummm Dustin... I don't think beards are supposed to be "itchy".

Oh how I love him.

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:56 PM

Did Millar stop wearing the neon orange shoelaces?

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:57 PM

Mac - yeah he did, sadly. I liked those bright things.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:58 PM

I like Pedey better shaved, yeah he looks young, but wasn't fond of the beard. Maybe a goatee would be better?

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:58 PM

Damn. Those things were hideously epic.

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 8:59 PM

I can't imagine Dustin with a goatee.
He might look like a little, less-bald Youk.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:00 PM

I like bright colors. I have these red sketchers I wear with my red sox shirt. They are falling apart and I have been trying to find others to replace them. Red sneakers aren't easy to find.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:02 PM

Good job getting out of that Jon....I've been scarce tonight, I'm trying to clean my house, the realtor is showing it tomorrow and we've been crazy busy that stugg has just piled up everywhere

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:03 PM

I like bright colors as long as they're offset by black. My favorite color scheme is red and black, and I even wear my red Sox shirts with black pants on casual Fridays.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:04 PM

Rocky Cherry sounds like a Ben and Jerry's flavor

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:05 PM

What a hilarious name -- puts our little Coco to shame!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:07 PM

THAT'S the Millar I know!

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:07 PM

Kristin - that's the same thing I thought of when he was up.

Thank you, Millar.

[ Mary ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:08 PM

ecl - When I read that you like the bright colors with black I thought to myself "oohh, I like red and black..." and when I kept reading I laughed.

It seems to be a common favorite combination.

[ Kristina ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:09 PM

And LA made it 5-3,...go angels....and YAY BAY!

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:09 PM

WOO HOOOOOO!!!

JASON BAY!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:09 PM

Oh my freakin' doG...BAY! You amaze me!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:09 PM

JAYBAY!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:09 PM

Woohoo!!

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:09 PM

YAY! BAY!!!

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:10 PM

I'm so glad Jason Bay belongs to us.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:11 PM

Mary, red is sort of my "power color," if you will. And in a meme you did awhile back on LJ, I decided that you and I were separated at birth. Some of the similarities were pretty freaky. Including that color combination.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:12 PM

Ecl, I wore red pants, black sneakers, and black top the other night to work. I was told I could be Mickey Mouse. Now I'm not sure if I will ever wear that combo to work again.

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:12 PM

I can hit two homeruns in one game and never crack a smile!!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:13 PM

Yeah, Bethie, I've got to hand it to him. He's a bit bland for my personal taste, but he can hit the tar off the ball!

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:15 PM

Yeah, he's not quite Mr. Personality, but he can go yard and haul ass when he needs to. That works for me.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:15 PM

Wow, Mary, red pants -- pretty bold! I don't own any of those.

Amazing...Rocky is NOT this guy's nickname. That is his real name. Oh, the teasing he must have endured as a kid.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:17 PM

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:19 PM

Rocky Cherry is an awesome name, but I like Lance broadway better.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:19 PM

Yep, that's why we got him, Bethie, right? :::grins:::

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:21 PM

The Dodgers got Greg Maddux from the Padres??

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:22 PM

Cathy, my all-time favorite oddball name (not baseball related, just someone I met years ago) is...:::drumroll please:::...Cash Register. And that was his real name, not Cassidy or Cassius. Cash. I don't know what his parents were thinking.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:24 PM

They DID, Bethie??? MLB.com lists him with San Diego...

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:24 PM

ecl - I believe that wins oddest name in the universe.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:24 PM

That's a great one, ecl, but I have a better one. My dad's a professor, and one of his students was named Shithead, except it was pronounced she-ted.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:27 PM

Just heard it on WRKO Faith.

Apparently they just acquired him. Breaking news.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:27 PM

Mac, when I was introduced to Mr. Cash Register I came very close to bursting out laughing.

Mary, you mean Shithead isn't an urban legend? I've heard about that one before, except it was pronounced shi-THEED.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:29 PM

WRKO is definitely on top of their news, Bethie! Wow.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:31 PM

Nope, it was pronounced she-ted. And I think her middle name was douchebag.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:35 PM

Yeah it's time for Pap

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:35 PM

Alright Manny Del, calm thyself.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:35 PM

Come on, MDC! Throw strikes!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:36 PM

:::giggles at Cathy:::

Enter the Papelbeast!

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:36 PM

Oh yeah, my man is coming out. This is when I go to full screen.

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:38 PM

ecl, I would probably burst out laughing if it were me. Cash Register isn't a name one hears everyday.

C'mon, Pap. GET THE OUT.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:39 PM

Alright Papelbuns.....throw strikes!

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:40 PM

Double shit.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:40 PM

Crap!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:40 PM

Mac -- I couldn't laugh in the guy's face. It was a business situation.

DAMMIT!

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:41 PM

DAMMIT.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:41 PM

Aw, Paps. I'm gonna cry.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:41 PM

Okay seirously Papelbon -- cut the shit

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:42 PM

Phewww....dammit Manny, this is why walks are bad...some insurance runs would be nice right now

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:42 PM

Okay, c'mon bats!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:42 PM

Maybe Manny shouldn't have shaved all his hair off.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:43 PM

It's a shame I don't trust Pedie in the clutch.

[ Mac ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:44 PM

Insurance runs would be nice right now.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:46 PM

Ha.

thanks Pedie for making my reverse psychology work.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:46 PM

I would be scared if Millar was on my team, with those catches.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:47 PM

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:47 PM

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:48 PM

Okay Youk...I'm not watching so you can hit a home run now.

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:48 PM

PEDIE and PAPI...they listened to me!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:50 PM

Papi!

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:50 PM

Yeah Sox.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:50 PM

Jason Bay is made of win.

And Citron...thanks for that wild throw. We appreciate it.

And more BAY-goodness!...nice running PAPI

[ ecl1958 ] says:

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:53 PM

I *LOVE* bad throws to first. Love, love, love!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:53 PM

I swear Millar has to be doing this on purpose. He still wants us to win.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:53 PM

Can Millar catch?

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:53 PM

OK - I may be the only one who cares but PAPELBON DID NOT GIVE UP A RUN IN THE ALL STAR GAME! NAVARRO GAVE UP AN ERROR!!!

[ Kristin ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:53 PM

Nice taking out the short stop!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:53 PM

Yeah, I'm feeling bad for Millar. He's like the mole.

[ Bethie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:54 PM

I see a big swirly waiting for Citron and Millar after the game.

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:54 PM

Jennie, you are correct! I agree!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:54 PM

Yeah, Jennie, and then he makes a perfect throw for Mo the very next inning. That pissed me off so much!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:55 PM

thank you. do not disparage the name of my man Papelbon.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:56 PM

Jennie, you're not the only one. I so wish they would stop blaming Papelbon.

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:56 PM

Jennie, you are my kindred spirit. I love Paps. My hubby gave me his jersey for Christmas.

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:57 PM

I have a Papelbon poster up at work, and a bobblehead and a Papelbon "action figure" (though it doesn't really move).

[ jules ] says:
on August 18, 2008 9:58 PM

You've got a Papelbon action figure!!??!?!?!?!?

:: jealous ::

I have his SI covers on my wall next to my Fenway poster.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 18, 2008 10:00 PM

I have the sportspropaganda papelbon poster on my wall next to my bed. I have 2 papelbon shirts, and a papelbon fire shirt.
