I just saw on ESPN that they put Joba on the DL. And the Rays won today grr

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:00 PM

Yeah, I watched the Rays win on tv. Just turned it on for the 9th inning, was hoping to see them lose. Just finishing dinner, good timing. I guess I missed a good game last nite, got home from work right after it ended.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:04 PM

Joba to the DL...interesting. Guess being a starter was too much for him or something...

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:11 PM

So missed KC announcers.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:12 PM

Joba has slight tear in his rotator cuff and will take some time off before beginning a throwing program.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:14 PM

Ugh, KC announcers again.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:14 PM

Well hey there, Ian...been awhile since I've seen you around. Hope you're well.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:14 PM

Ian- does this mean he'll miss the rest of the season?

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:15 PM

So is this really the proverbial straw for the Yankees, or can they really overcome it, with Chamberlain unavailable as either a reliever or as a starter?

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:18 PM

Aw no Pedie tonight. And I really hope Joba is out for the rest of the season

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:18 PM

JD seems to like that leadoff spot just fine.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:21 PM

Well, how about that. Youk sweats a lot, according to the KC announcers.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:21 PM

Pete Abraham of the Journal News seems to think we won't see Joba again this season.

I don't see the Yankees rushing him back at all. He's the future of that pitching staff and if he got hurt rushing him back they lose him for even longer.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:21 PM

Aw, poor youk.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:21 PM

Please let that be histrionics.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:22 PM

Ouch!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:23 PM

"If you look at it relation to the plate, it wasn't that inside." WTF?

[ Julie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:24 PM

YOUK!! ouch that musta hurt...

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:25 PM

Ouch it looked like it hit him in the heart! That must have hurt A LOT.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:26 PM

Youk out of the game? Disappointed kid here.
I just hope it's not serious.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:29 PM

I'm sure Ian will keep us apprised of Youk's status. Isn't that right, Ian? :::wink:::

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:30 PM

Ian: X-ray, MRI, and full medical records, please.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:43 PM

I spaced out and came back to... :::crickets:::

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:44 PM

...and a 3-pitch K by Wakey.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:44 PM

david murphy just took out Pudge at the plate and both are still laying down.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:45 PM

Wow--that was fast. Top of 3 coming up.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:45 PM

Manny just hit another HR.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:46 PM

Ian, really? Lying down? Ouch...

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:48 PM

knee to knee and head to head. Murphy got up and appears to be OK. and pudge is being pinch-hit for in this inning.

[ pm ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:48 PM

my favorite with these announcers was in the first game of this series, they said "ortiz has got to be uncomfortable in his new spot in the lineup, he's been batting cleanup behind manny for years now"

[ pm ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:50 PM

this joba thing is a cover i think... they're just delaying announcing that he's going to have surgery

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:52 PM

PM, I heard that too. I was like 'what the hell are they talking about?'

My favorite thing has been their whole discussion about our guys' necklaces.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:52 PM

Ouch, Pudge. Yeah, I know, wrong team, but I enjoyed watching him catch in his prime. Tough little bulldog.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:53 PM

My favorite was the whole Buchholz glove thing where they said they would call it a triple just because they could.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:54 PM

So glad I get RemDawg & DO on a nightly basis.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:55 PM

Wow. 5 pitches. I think the last commercial break was longer than this half-inning.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:57 PM

Xrays were negative on youk

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:58 PM

I heart negative x-rays.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:58 PM

Just some swelling for the Youk--he'll be fine.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 8:59 PM

From Clubhouse Insider:

It’s a bruise, not a fracture, to Kevin Youkilis’ right hand. He was hit by a pitch in the first inning and had to leave the game. The impact was at the base of the thumb, near the wrist. X-rays taken here at Kauffman Stadium were negative. His status is day-to-day.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:01 PM

Thanks Ian. :)

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:12 PM

Yankees got a hr, 4-2 now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:14 PM

Hey wow...didja know that Terry Francona has a big nose? Who knew? :::sigh:::

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:18 PM

That's 11 RBIs for Jed in the last 6 games.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:18 PM

Yes.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:18 PM

And the Jedster strikes again!!! WOOHOO!!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:18 PM

Yay, Jed! Doubles power!

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:18 PM

Lowrie is impressing the hell out of me.

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:18 PM

LOWRIE!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:19 PM

Though everytime I see him now, I think Jeb Lowrey.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:19 PM

JED!!!!!!!!!

He's a keeper

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:19 PM

Better by the minute.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:19 PM

Papi coming out of his funk...

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:20 PM

So apparently, Papi is a big guy.

In other breaking news, dog bites man.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:22 PM

Jed Lowrie is Mr. RBI I tell ya

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:23 PM

I have the game on mute. I just couldn't take it anymore.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:28 PM

NOT COOL, guys.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:31 PM

Awwww, shit.

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:32 PM

Oh man, so not good.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:32 PM

Holy Tumbling Catch, Batman!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:33 PM

JACOBY!!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:33 PM

Now THAT's going to make some highlight reels. . . .

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:33 PM

Loving that, way to go Ellsbury.

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:33 PM

Shit! That's definitely gonna be a web gem

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:34 PM

And Jacoby is standing there grinning like that was nothing. :::cracks up:::

[ amanda ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:34 PM

nice catch by ellsbury

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:40 PM

Geez, Jacoby really is back!

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:41 PM

I want to go tickle Bay just to see if he'll smile.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:42 PM

I can't remember who was saying it, but I think the slump seemed so bad just because our expectations for Ellsbury were so high.

But it looks like he's getting things figured out just in time.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:42 PM

Restraining order, party of one!

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:50 PM

Thank you Mr. Drew

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:51 PM

Yay for runs!!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:51 PM

Yeah, JD! And here's some table-setting for little Jedders. . . .

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:52 PM

See, we don't need anything flashy - just keep stringing together those hits.

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:52 PM

wow nice catch by Teahan there

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:55 PM

Hey everyone, just got home from work. I'm liking the score! Hmm I see Jed was amazing again. I believe that he has more RBIs than Lugo now. And Jacoby's hitting and diving - very nice.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:58 PM

So whats the news with Joba? All I know is 15 DL...is his injury bad?

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 9:59 PM

Jessi: Both Lowrie and Lugo have 22 RBI's now. Of course, Lowrie's only needed 98 AB's to get that many RBI's--Lugo, 261 (!).

[ Jennie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:00 PM

I'm looking to change my life - should I get a new TV?

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:00 PM

How many pitches did Wake throw?

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:01 PM

Jessi read up at the top here for Joba news.

80 pitches for wake

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:02 PM

Wait--forgot Lowrie's AB's tonight--but it's still 101 versus 261.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:04 PM

So why pull Wake now?

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:05 PM

Joba news: I just read he has rotator cuff tendinitis. I don't know what that is but its the same injury that Posada had who ended up having season-ending surgery.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:06 PM

::scrolling and reading::

Sorry about that, I didn't really read anything near the top. Well that is good news for us. He'll either miss just a few starts or the Yanks will shut him down for the season.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:07 PM

Jason Bay is making me very happy. On a daily basis.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:08 PM

Lone1c - Haha figures Lugo would need 2x as many ABs as Lowrie. If Tito plugs him back into the lineup when he's better...

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

OMG JACOBY!!!! He is BACK!

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

So good. Loving ya Jacoby.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

Way to break out of a slump!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

Woot!

That one snuck up on me!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

JAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Kara ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

TACO!!

(eeh, sorry, I mean Jacoby, I spend too much time with my brother)

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

Tacoby Bellsbury

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:09 PM

Yea Jacoby!! It's so nice to have him back.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:10 PM

Sorry all was off watching Project Runway.

Jacoby!

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:10 PM

I don't know fc. I was as surprised as you and DO and RemDawg were.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:11 PM

I love seeing him laughing in the dugout.

[ Los Angeles Lexi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:11 PM

i've been praying every night that Jacoby would break out of his slump!

Glad to see him back in the SWING of things :)

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:11 PM

about Wake that is.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:11 PM

Wow, no one took my straight line about Bay and ran with it.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:14 PM

Maybe Wakey's back was stiff or something, and Tito didn't want it to get worse?

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:15 PM

Well fc since i'm the only guy here, I'd probably be the only one to run with it.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:16 PM

Hi everyone!

I am so happy for Jacoby!!

[ Anonymous ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:16 PM

Defense leads to offense!

[ Lindsay ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:16 PM

I still have a smile on my face after seeing him hit that homer. =D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:17 PM

TB came back and beat Cleveland 10-7. grrr

[ Ian ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:18 PM

that happened this afternoon ecl. 6 runs in the 9th to beat the Indians

[ Lindsay ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:18 PM

Yanks are up 5-3

Forgot the check the inning though...

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:19 PM

Yanks in the bottom of the 7th with one out.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:20 PM

Sorry, Ian. Didn't realize that was an old score. I'm behind the times.

Fun random baseball news: Pujols hit a grand slam a little while ago.

[ Rusty ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:20 PM

I forgot to wish Timmay happy birthday last Saturday.

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:20 PM

Naaah, Ian, gender is no excuse - anyone can play.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:20 PM

go Manny!

[ Lindsay ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:22 PM

Anyone going to the futures games on Saturday?

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:23 PM

Youk spits on your silly wrist brace.

[ Rusty ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:23 PM

Ian and fc, if I'd been here for the comment, I would have run with it.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:24 PM

Did they just say that Hansen had a great arm?

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:25 PM

Hansen may have a great arm, too bad he doesn't know how to use it.

[ lone1c ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:26 PM

Actually, Ian, you're not the only guy in here. . . .

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:32 PM

Why the hell did the guy tip his hat to the crowd? His team is down by six runs.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:35 PM

K-Mast!

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:37 PM

Masterson, Jed and Jacoby in the same game!

cuteness overload.

[ Erin ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:43 PM

All three of which are on my fantasy team.

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:43 PM

Aww Mikey...

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:45 PM

My man warming up.

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:55 PM

Man, Papi looked really bored in the dugout. I'm so glad this is the last time I have to listen to these awful announcers.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:56 PM

Papi must be bored with them too. :::grins:::

[ Jessi ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:58 PM

Win!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:59 PM

Nice defense! Yay for wins!

[ fc ] says:
on August 6, 2008 10:59 PM

Jacoby is one happy boy tonight.

[ Cathy ] says:
on August 6, 2008 11:00 PM

Did anybody see that fan giving somebody the finger?

[ Karen ] says:
on August 6, 2008 11:00 PM

Loving my Paps. Off to bed, early morning, since I work evenings anything before 10am is early. Be back sometime over the weekend.

[ Angie ] says:
on August 6, 2008 11:01 PM

Yea I saw that too Cathy

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on August 6, 2008 11:01 PM

I'm gonna be sensible again and try to get enough sleep to deal with the fray at work. See everyone Friday night. Enjoy the off day!
