Anyone else catch Lowell's one-on-one with Heidi during the pregame? Good to see him back with the club, even if he's still on the DL. Just seeing him smiling makes everything better. This is not the same team without him around.
Well, fc, back in the day it would have entailed actually firing something up. Now, however, I performed the exciting task of booting up my computer. Got knocked off line last night when the tropical remnants arrived. It's still raining hard here, but no power flickers while I was at work, it appears. So now I've got my mlb.tv, my Gameday graphics (just in case), and CF, so I'm all set. All I need to do now is get into comfy loungewear and get some food into me and life will be good. Oh yeah, and a win would make it even better, of course!
Bethie - Jed struck out on a 2-1 count? (I wasn't paying attention during Jed's and Coco's at-bats...) I'm suddenly reminded of Coco's three ball walk in Baltimore last week.
Jenny, last I checked, our airport had recorded about 3.5 inches since last night. The mountainous terrain makes for wide variations, though. There are reports in the area of 10+ inches.
Ecl, are you getting the remnants of Fay? Florida could have a hurricane for Labor day weekend. Hurricane Gustav. And there are 2 more developing behind it. I really hate the tropics.
That's a lot of rain, Faith. You guys are getting a lot more than we are. Break out the floaties and be safe!
The river in our back yard is out of the bank already, and the neighbor is not happy it's taken over his back yard. Luckily our bank is higher, but it's getting awful close to coming out on this end too.
Yep, Karen, this is "remnants of Fay" coming through. Bethie is getting it too. I saw the reports on Gustav but didn't know about the two trailing it -- that's scary. The 5-day projection has it in the Gulf as a Cat 3 headed towards New Orleans. Whether that projection holds true remains to be seen. My area got whooped by remnants of Frances and Ivan in 2004...unbelievable amounts of rain and flooding. We need help with this current drought, but I don't relish the thought of Gustav taking a similar path to that of Fay.
Bethie, I don't know how your rainfall compares to that of Charlotte, but the airport there has well over 4 inches so far. Maybe that's why your creek is trying to jump its banks?
The Red Cross and National Guard are still out here, the roads are still flooded and some of the schools still closed. Then there is the damage from the tornadoes. And there's another one possibly coming. I so want out.
My birthday is the peak of hurricane season, there was a hurricane in 2004 on my birthday, don't wish to repeat.
Jessi- I don't mind Tiger, but I get tired of seeing him EVERYWHERE. He can't even rehab his knee without showing up on my computer or television. :)
Faith, the river has been out of the banks only once this year, and that was back in April when we had thunderstorms just about every night. I haven't been keeping up with how much rain we have gotten today, I just know it's been a lot.
Bethie, I feel fortunate that in all the years I have lived in this house, which sits below street level and literally 5 feet from the creek, it has never ever jumped its banks. Not even in 2004. If we can just get this one good soaking, the vegetation and the water tables will be much happier, so I don't mind the several days of rain.
Melbourne, FL, is still a disaster area, about 30miles from me. Fay brought 7days of rain, about 16" a day. That explains why it is so flooded there. I wonder how Wakefield made out, he lives in Satellite Beach, on A1A, east of Melbourne. I heard it was bad out there.
WHy is he growing a mustache again? Has he not looked in a mirror and realized that it looks horrible, and just as greasy and disgusting as the rest of him? But then again, maybe that's the look he's going for.
Jessi - Bay singled, Jed singled, Coco singled, Bay scored, Jed to third, Coco stole second, Bailey hit one off third base, throw was wide, Bailey was safe, Giambi wasn't looking, Jed and Coco scored.
I read a quote once that some of the Yank pitchers (such as Mussina and Pettite) don't like throwing to Pudge because he calls pitches that give him a better chance to throw out runners. Ever since that I've noticed that with speedy guys on base, he does pay a ton of attention to them. Am I imagining this?
Sources confirm to WEEI.com that the Red Sox have agreed in principle on a trade that would send outfielder Mark Kotsay to the Sox from the Atlanta Braves for a minor league pitcher not on Boston’s 40-man roster. The teams are now just awaiting the results of the medical reports on Kotsay, who did do a stint on the 15-day disabled list this year with a bad back.
Nice win! Even if we lose the series, we will only lose a game in the standings - I can breathe a bit now.
Good game overall. Wake was solid. The score would be 7-1 w/o Damon. The bottom third of our lineup hit (!). And our relievers did not allow a single run.
