I'm A Certified Bayniac

It seems Jason Bay got the party invitation for Jason Bay Day, because he celebrated by going 2-for-3 with a triple (!), 2 walks -- and scored the game-winning run on a soft rolling hit by Jed Lowrie. In between, he found time to make a spectacular diving catch in the outfield that saved a run, and cemented the love of pretty much every Sox fan across the country.

The extra innings walk-off win also brought back something that has been missing from the Fens for awhile now: the sight of the guys jumping around like little kids in celebration, hugging and high-fiving and grinning like madmen. As a team.

It's pure poetry that today, on Jason Bay Day, I'm giving my Baseball Boyfriend of the Day honors to Jason Bay.

Yeah, I think Jason is going to fit in here just fine.

How's that for a welcome? Scoring both runs, including the game winner.

Y'all gotta promise not to start hating when hes watching strike threes in the near future ;)

I'm with you on this. I don't know much about Bay, but after last night I'm sold. It seems like he's another that puts in his all no matter what the circumstances. If we had to lose Moss, I'm ok with it being for bay.

I decided he was my Baseball Boyfriend last night, too, on my way home with one of the giddiest post-game crowds I've seen in a long time. Love him. Love his slight awkwardness and humility, love his batting eye, his sharp baserunning, and his hustle in the field. Fenway showed Bay a lot of love last night, and he delivered. I know every night won't be like this, but he showed us it's in him. Say it with me now: "JA-SON BAY! JA-SON BAY!"

I was almost as giddy reading the paper this morning as I was after the win yesterday. From his numerous quotes, he seemed both very humbled and very excited to be in Boston. He's exactly what this club needs right now.

I'm sure Coco's not quite happy, though.

Welcome to Boston, Jason Bay. Nice first impression. We wish him much success and happiness here. And welcome back Red Sox. I attended Wednesday night's game I didn't recognize the home team. They fielded, pitched and hit like a team covered by a giant black cloud. The cloud has been blown out to the West Coast by a breath of fresh air from Pittsburgh and it was nice to see our boys jumping up and down as a team after grinding out a win.

How nice to watch 25 guys whose collective mission is to play good baseball and stay in this pennant race. It's going to be a fun 2 months (hopefully 3!).

Great photo! I never did get to see game and probably won't tonight, either (grrrrrrrrrr). I did follow the game on gameday and was excited to "see" him do well. It's the heart and hustle I love.

I just subbed to mlb.tv so am looking forward to following all this rejuvenated goodness with y'all! And whoever said he looks like Jed was spot on. They could be brothers, no doubt about it. Can't tell the players without a scorecard, I swear! :::grins:::

Bay actually went 1-3, with 2 BB and a HBP.

And not that it much matters, but his catch in the the 5th was actually a sliding catch, not a diving catch. That pic you've got is a bit deceptive I think, it's from after he slid and made the catch, then rolled over.

Either way, a hell of a game, and Bay's been excellent so far.
