The Jason-Jon-Jason Show

I really enjoy days like today - when there were so many great performances during last night's game, that it makes it difficult to pick a favorite. It was hard to even narrow it down to three. For the first time in the history of Center Field, I'm awarding three-way tie honors for Baseball Boyfriend of the Day to Jason Bay, Jon Lester and Jason Varitek.

It's just too tough to decide between the new addition who pounds out two homers in a game, the newly crowned ace pitcher who always seems to deliver new life to the clubhouse, and the veteran captain who gained a toehold in digging his way out of a slump with a long bomb. So I didn't choose. Rather, I'm choosing them all.

I must give bonus props to Jason "Beaker" Bay for this gem:

Bay was asked, given his time languishing in Pittsburgh for most of his career, exactly how long it's been since he was in the middle of a pennant race. He smiled.

"Little League?"

Yesterday was, all in all, an awesome game. I was just thinking that I was still kind of getting used to Bay exactly a second before he belted out the second home run. Yeah, you could say that changed my mind.

Jon did an awesome job like always. I love watching him pitch.

And I'm really happy for Tek. Hopefully his slump will be over. I love seeing the captain doing well like yesterday.

Some people are wondering if Youk will be the MVP this year... but if I had to pick an MVP for the Sox right now... I think I'd have to pick Lester.

Matsuzaka has similar, if not better numbers, but I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop with him... and I'm starting to fear that it might drop in October...

Bottom Line: Lester is officially the ace right now.

Thoughts?

The role of "The Ace" is not just performance on the field - it encompasses a leadership aspect. It's the #1 guy in the ordered rotation. And I think that role will continue to be Josh Beckett's.

Jon Lester, while delivering ace-level stuff, is not The Ace. I prefer to think of him instead as The Stopper.

Jason Bay is such a narcissistic manchild.

Jeez.

I betcha he cracked a smile when he gave that quote. Let me guess, it was a written quote and not on video, right?

Ah, posted before I read the article.

That's the same Bay who was asked, given his time languishing in Pittsburgh for most of his career, exactly how long it's been since he was in the middle of a pennant race. HE SMILED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bay is so adorably humble and self-depracating in his responses. kind of, well...the opposite of Manny.

mhc, isn't that supposed to be capitalized?

:: grin ::

I love Bay's response, Little League. That's funny.

When Lester pitches, my stress level is down. Not so with Daisuke. I know he has a great record, but he always makes me nervous.

Interesting news regarding Beckett's numbness in his right hand.
