Me: "The game is about to start!"
Brother: "It's on channel 4."
Me: "No, it's on NESN."
Dad: "Oh, there's a baseball game today, too?"

Stupid Pats.

Anyway. Hi everyone.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:06 PM

Hey everyone!

I love Sundays in September. Baseball and football. What could be better?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:07 PM

Liza, don'tcha hate it when folks have sports tunnel vision that excludes baseball?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:08 PM

The game is on TBS too, for anyone on mlb.tv who wants to peek in on better def than the computer screen.

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:08 PM

On the other hand, I have sports tunnel vision for baseball, which annoys even some of my baseball friends.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:09 PM

Jacoby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Liza ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:09 PM

ELLS!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:09 PM

Atta boy, Ells. You can taste the postseason, can't you?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:10 PM

And he's not even out of breath. Haha..

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:10 PM

That'll do, Pedie!

[ Liza ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:10 PM

Triples are sexy. And falling over is funny, Snider.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:11 PM

fc, I'm the same way. Give me baseball or give me nothing (with the exception of March Madness).

Thank you Pedey and Jacoby...

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:12 PM

I watch pretty much every sport that's shown on tv.

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:14 PM

HAHAHAHA - I just had a fortune cookie left over from last week's Chinese takeout. I also happen to be feeling like crap.
My fortune: Solid gains are possible today, but with a headache.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:15 PM

Which bodes well for the Sox today, fc, but don't forget to take some Tylenol!

[ Liza ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:16 PM

fc, just about everyone I know is sick. That includes me. Do you have the same head cold everyone else seems to have?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:16 PM

I watched a recent NESN video clip of a Bay interview. He seems like such a pleasant, sweet guy.

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:18 PM

Liza, I have my own special variety that I get every time I get a little run down, but that's been going around my office so that probably started it - that plus my latest episode of The Berenstein Bears and Too Much Baseball on the last homestand.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:19 PM

I think the "change of season crud" is going around, Liza. Plenty of folks are sick down here too. I haven't been feeling well for a couple of days...sort of weak and woozy, but beyond that nothing that I can put a finger on. I'm really congested but it could be the fall pollens coming out.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:24 PM

Finally got myself out of bed. I felt so good for the three days in tampa then what was ailing me before came back full swing.

[ Mac ] says:

Dice-K

(by the way, hi everyone)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:28 PM

Why hello, Mac and Karen!

Nice work, Dice.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:32 PM

Hey everyone!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:34 PM

I had a good time in Tampa, despite the two losses. For Tuesday night's game, Beckett pitching, I was 4 rows from the bullpen. Varitek, and Beckett warming up in front of me, was so good. I got some pics. I didn't get any of my other fav, Papelbon, he was having headaches because of all the noise in there. It was worse than ever. I hear the same horns in the background in Toronto, so annoying, then there is the cowbells. Even I who doesn't get headaches got one.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:35 PM

What did Don and Remy just say...Cracker Cats or something like that? I was distracted with cooking and it just sounded so strange.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:36 PM

Karen, I can't even imagine how much Paps must have been hurting with those cowbells, poor guy. I'm glad you had a good view of our guys, though!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:36 PM

Someone came up from the Edmonton Cracker Cats. I didn't catch who - was too busy wondering what a Cracker Cat is.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:37 PM

I'm glad you had a good time, Karen! Seats close to the bullpen are quite awesome.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:38 PM

That's great that you had a good time, Karen!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:40 PM

Haha I just finished watching a interview of Masterson when he was pitching in the minor leagues. First off, he was incredibly nice and modest. Then he was asked something like: "Ok so say you're pitching against the Yanks, bases loaded with Arod at the plate - what do you throw?" Kinda sounds familiar eh?

He replied "sinker" by the way.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:41 PM

Thanks, fc. At first I thought it was someone's name, but then it occurred to me that it was one of those bizarre team names.

[ Mary ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:46 PM

I have to watch this on Gameday, because our RA is home for the weekend, and we've completely decked out our center lounge in red cups and boxers and panties.
He comes home today.
It's going to be the best prank evah.
So I'm not leaving this room :D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:47 PM

:::giggles at Mary:::

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:47 PM

That's an awesome prank, Mary!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:47 PM

You crazy college kids and your pranks.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:48 PM

Dice-KK!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:48 PM

The problem is that we have no idea when he's coming back.
So we're just kinda camped out here all day, doing homework etc.

[ Mac ] says:

[ Jessi ] says:

[ joyosity ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:53 PM

Jessi, where did you see that interview of Masterson?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:55 PM

Jacoby!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:55 PM

Jacoby is being SUCH a good boy today. Of course he had help on that one.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:55 PM

JACOBY!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:55 PM

I never get tired of watching him run. Just incredible.

on September 21, 2008 1:59 PM

Gameday is slow. What did papi do?

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:59 PM

AND THAT'S HOW WE DO IT

[ joyosity ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:59 PM

Thanks, Jessi! Go Papi!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:59 PM

Yeah.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 21, 2008 1:59 PM

It caught up. AND HES BACK.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:00 PM

Papi's RBI total is up to 87 now. Not bad at all!!!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:00 PM

yay papi!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:01 PM

Ugh just checked the score of the Pat game - how the hell are we losing to the freakin Dolphins? 14-3, not cool.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:02 PM

I love Wes Welker. And the Pats need to seriously sack up.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:02 PM

Jessi, yeah I wondered that too. I usually look forward to watching them play the dolphins, to see them beat them.

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:03 PM

Does anyone NOT think "pigpen" when this guy comes up?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:07 PM

Dice-KKKK!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:07 PM

Dice-KKKK!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:07 PM

Late post: I don't necessarily think "pigpen," but I do think it's an unfortunate name.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:07 PM

Dice-KKKK

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:09 PM

ecl, it must have been all the Charlie Brown cartoons growing up.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:10 PM

I watched them too, fc, it's just been awhile so that's not what immediately springs to mind. Instead, I just think "Thigpen" is not the most euphonious arrangement of letters that I've ever heard.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:12 PM

I love Charlie Brown!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:15 PM

That sucked.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:16 PM

And now 20-6 Dolphins. Blahhhhh.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:16 PM

Oh man, Miami just scored again, now 20-6. So are we only good with Brady?

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:17 PM

I cannot believe the Pats are getting beaten by Chad Pennington and the Dolphins. CHAD PENNINGTON. Seriously???

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:19 PM

A little communication issue there, boys?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:28 PM

Jacoby!! 3-3!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:28 PM

Jacoby!

[ Cathy ] says:

JACOBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anybody catch Sean Casey's instant replay?

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:37 PM

Nice catch Sean. And that sox fan in the stands in front of you thinks so too.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Apparently I missed something funny while I was in the other room. :::shrugs:::

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:42 PM

Hi, everybody:

Have been catching the game on TBS so far--and it is good. (Jacoby slugging 2.333 today--awesome!)

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:44 PM

Also--I just noticed the "100.0 m" sign in far left (I find it oddly humorous, but I'm not sure why.)

[ lone1c ] says:

:: watches the tumbleweed roll by ::

[ Mary ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:51 PM

If we get one more false alarm about our RA coming home, I'm going to go nuts hahaha

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:51 PM

I hate Chad Pennington.

Nice effort, jacoby.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:52 PM

Still here, just multitasking.

Mary, are you going to hide under the bed when the RA comes back?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:54 PM

Nice catch by Kotsay stops Inglett from scoring.

[ Mary ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:56 PM

No, we're all just hanging out in the center lounge with red cups and panties and boxers everywhere.
It's going to be an amazing prank.
We keep adding things, too.
Someone donated a pair of jeans, some empty cookie bags, capri suns, and a pack of Winstons.
When he comes back we all have to like act passed out and whatnot.

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:56 PM

95 pitches through 6 shutout innings. Not bad, Dice.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 2:57 PM

I wonder if the Pats know that they are playing the Dolphins. You know, the team that won one game last year. The team whose starting QB is Pennington.

28-6 Dolphins.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:02 PM

The Pats need to sack the fuck up!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:02 PM

My, how times have changed, if college partying would upset an RA. Glad I grew up when I did.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:05 PM

Pats just scored a TD (Cassel to Gaffney).

28-13 Miami.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:09 PM

Minnesota is up 4-1 on TB, end of 5.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:12 PM

Dice-KKKKKK!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:14 PM

Dice is ON today. What a great job.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:15 PM

Can we get this Dice-K for every start, please?

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:16 PM

Oh, and DIE, TG, DIE.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:16 PM

Awesome job, Dice! At least one game isn't the suck today.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:18 PM

Pedey Power!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:19 PM

OMG, I meant die TB.
What a horrible typo to make on this site.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:19 PM

Pedie!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:20 PM

That is a heck of a lot of doubles for Pedie this season. Wow.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:21 PM

Ecl, what's the number? Hits is like 205 right?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:21 PM

Pedie being Jacoby!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:21 PM

Pedie being Jacoby!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:22 PM

Pedey's being Jacoby, and Jacoby's being Pedey!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:22 PM

Pedie has 52 doubles. Don't know how many hits. I know he's over 200, though.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:23 PM

Avery - I think he's got 52 doubles on the season.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:25 PM

ecl, Avery: Pedey's at 205.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:27 PM

People I know only seem to call during Sox games. I think they should check the schedule first. I can't believe how bad the Pats are doing.

[ jules ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:31 PM

Hey everyone!

Just checking in to say HEY!

I'm working on the venetian plaster in the dining room but am taking a lunch break. I've got both TVs on the game and the small one dragged out from the den to the dining room door. LOL.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:32 PM

My sister called me the other night during our game, Karen. It was long distance and I ended up missing several innings aside from peeking at the mlb.tv screen a few times (I was trying to concentrate on the call).

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:33 PM

lone, that's a pretty impressive number of hits!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:34 PM

I love Dustin Pedroia and every single one of his 205 hits.

I hate the Miami Dolphins.

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:35 PM

My family knows better about when to call. And when they don't, I screen & call back.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:37 PM

Yes it is, ecl. Now if we could only find a way to clone his awesomeness (and Lester's, and Beckett's, and Youk's and Papi's while we're at it) so that we can enjoy it for years and years to come. . . .

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:37 PM

I'm using GameCast to keep track of the Pat game - what's wrong with them? Is it Cassel? Or are the Dolphins actually playing well?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:38 PM

Those of my family who care enough about baseball to take schedules into consideration are NYY fans who have no idea that I switched sides.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:39 PM

lone, I think we should clone pretty much the whole team. I love them just the way they are.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:39 PM

Ricky fucking Williams is mowing the Pats down, and CHAD PENNINGTON has thrown for over 200 yards. The D couldn't stop my 3 year old cousin and a one armed Rex Grossman today.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:40 PM

Paps, yes. Most of my family is good with calling. I do screen, I just have to pick up my mom's calls these days, since she has a new man, who doesn't understand why she wants to talk to her kids, so she has to call when he is busy. So if I miss her, I might not get to talk to her for days.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:40 PM

Jessi: Cassel has nothing to do with the Dolphins putting up 38. That's the defense being asleep at the wheel.

(Part of me also wonders if the Pats aren't being extra cautious since they have their bye week next week.)

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:41 PM

Thanks Cathy - how Pennigton has managed to throw over 200 yards is beyond me.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:43 PM

Oh I know lone1c - I just wanted to know if he could be putting up better numbers.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:43 PM

I fucking hate Chad Pennington. So very much.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:45 PM

I'm glad I'm not into football. The angst of following one sport is enough for me!

[ Avery ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:45 PM

I'm not a big football fan- but my dad is. Good thing I don't live with him- football confuses me so much. LETS GO PAPS

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:46 PM

Avery, you and me both. Confusing about describes it!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:47 PM

The angst is worth it, ecl, because football is an amazing sport. It helps make late fall/winter bearable for me.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:47 PM

My brother and my dad are into football, as you could probably tell from the first post up top. I'm the big baseball person in my family.

Nice throw, Jed.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:47 PM

Avery - Same here. I don't think I could ever understand football.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:49 PM

That was a nice throw, Liza. I've really taken a shine to the Jedster.

Cathy, once baseball is done for the season, I have nothing to make fall and winter bearable until March Madness/Spring Training. Nothing about football really grabs me. :::oh well:::

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:50 PM

NESN scoreboard on the fritz?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:50 PM

I hate Vernon Wells.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:50 PM

Ecl, I've decided to try getting interested in hockey. The Bruins' season is starting soon.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

Yes!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

W! Nice game guys!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

so looking forward to Nesn for rest of the year.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

I find that once you start watching football, you can catch onto it pretty quickly.

I watch football, baseball, basketball, tennis, hockey, golf, and pretty much everything else, except for curling. I love following so many sports, because it means that I am never bored.

Nice win, boys!!!!

[ fc ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

OK. Nice one, boys. See ya tomorrow.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

I think what bothers me about hockey, Liza, is that it can get quite violent. All those guys with missing teeth.

YAY BAY!!! YAY PAPS!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:51 PM

See ya next year, Toronto and Minnesota.

GO BIRDS!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:52 PM

Win! Nice!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:52 PM

Oh yeah, and YAY DICE!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:53 PM

Anyone else watching the Yank game tonight? I'm actually gonna cheer them on. One, because it would suck to lose the last game in the Stadium. Two, because I want the Sox to clinch at home.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:53 PM

Yes -- I'm watching the game and the pregame stuff, seeing as how I grew up in NY and several of my cousins are going to be at the game, etc.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:54 PM

And I have no problem with rooting for them to win their last home game.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 21, 2008 3:54 PM

I would watch it, but Joe Morgan + Jon Miller + last game in Yankee Stadium= me bashing my head against a wall, and screaming at the tv so much I'd give myself a headache.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 4:01 PM

I just get tired of the thousand replays of the freakin Boone HR. It would matter more if they actually won the WS that year.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 21, 2008 4:01 PM

Personally, I can't root for them to win this one. I just can't. After all the pain we've suffered at the hands of the MFY's, the possibility of them being eliminated in the final game at the Toilet is too much to give up.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 21, 2008 4:06 PM

Lone1c - I want the win for the franchise, not for the fans. Though having Mo come in to save the final game would be classic.

I guess it's a no-lose situation for me.
