Awww, you guys I have a class from 7-9:20.
I think I'm going to cry.
I'm going to miss Joshy and almost all of the game.
Wah.

But Go Sox!!
(Especially in my absence.)

[ Avery ] says:
on September 22, 2008 6:27 PM

I'm going to miss most of the game too- stupid science study halls. GO SOX and JOSHtober

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 6:36 PM

I'm leaving the office right now so won't miss the game, although I'm so tired that I may have to bow out early. GO SOX!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 6:46 PM

I definitely would be a bad influence in school. I would skip class. I am finishing cooking before game time.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 6:55 PM

While we're having a missing-the-game pity party, I have to do all the reading I was too sick to do yesterday and most of today...

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 6:56 PM

I actually get to watch the whole game for the first time in ages.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:00 PM

Hey y'all!

Happy JOSHTOBER! ha. Love that.

I'm not missing the game (well, a few minutes to pick up the kidlet from volleyball practice). I can't wait for this game.

I heart Eck: "why be afraid of Anaheim?" (paraphrase, but yeah)_

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:01 PM

I'm totally exhausted and bleary eyed right now, but having not seen red sox baseball since Wednesday....I will NOT miss this game.

I don't care if I have to break out the scotch tape to keep my eye lids open!!

Hey everyone!! GO SOX!

And the commander takes the hill!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:01 PM

Hey everyone!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:02 PM

how great was that. Two Josh Beckett montages in a span of 4 minutes

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:02 PM

Hi everyone.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:02 PM

Dangit! I don't get to see Beckett montages with MLB.tv. . . .

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:04 PM

I suppose I could help you out

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:06 PM

That would be wonderful, Ian!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:06 PM

Would be most appreciated, Ian.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:06 PM

Josh! Ooh am I happy. Although it was better in person last Tuesday. He was about 4ft away.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:06 PM

Going to be a bit though. I need to wait til the end of the inning to do anything.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:07 PM

BTW how great was that picture of Josh from our hostess with the mostess.

BecKett

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:07 PM

Hey, I usually have Gameday open to catch me up on anything I miss if I get distracted. Is anyone else having trouble opening it tonight?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:08 PM

BecKett!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:08 PM

Hello, all! Showed up just in time for BecKett, I see.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:08 PM

nice first inning, Beckett!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:08 PM

JOSH. I LOVE YOU. CALL ME.*

*will also accept 10 K's in lieu of phone call.

[ Mac ] says:

BecKett

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:09 PM

Ian: No rush.
TG: Only 10?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:10 PM

So if he gives you 10 grand you'll be happy.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:11 PM

Well, the nice hotel suites cost about that much. ;)

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:11 PM

Texy, you would have appreciated my view in Tampa. I was 4rows from the bullpen watching him warm up. Him, and Tek, so so good.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:12 PM

I need another DVR Too many good shows on tonight.

For those keeping score at home. Saturday's game time has been moved from 7:05 to 3:55 and will now be broadcast on FOX.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:12 PM

Karen: I was wondering how you got so close to Beckett. . . .

Dang--Ells hits a ball back to the pitcher and STILL is about thatclose to being safe.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:14 PM

PAPI!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:14 PM

Thanks for the info, Ian.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:14 PM

Take THAT, Grady "Fishy" Sizemore.

-blows raspberry-

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:14 PM

Yeah.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:14 PM

Note: I really don't like Fishy Sizemore.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:15 PM

Liza - "Fishy?" I don't get it...

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:15 PM

and another for those keeping score at home.

Beckett is penciled in to start Saturday as well..

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:15 PM

That sounded like that hurt.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:15 PM

Ian: Thanks. I had seen on ESPN that the game would be on Fox--but I hadn't heard about the time change.

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:15 PM

Wasn't Garko the one who made the Champagne comment?

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:16 PM

Mac - It's because of his weird fishy-lips.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:16 PM

Grady Sizemore is actually a legitimate MVP candidate this year, and his defense has improved. Naturally, this means he will not get a Gold Glove - whereas last year, he got an undeserved one.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:16 PM

Thanks for the heads up on the Saturday game, Ian.

Every time Papi gets a good hit it's like the sun comes out... :::late sentiment:::

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:17 PM

Zack Jackson's name really annoys me for some reason.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:18 PM

Missed church 2 Saturdays in a row, due to not feeling well, not another. It's harder to explain due to a game.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:18 PM

Wow, I'll have to take a break in the Drunken Birthday Rampage in Baltimore to watch Josh.

Speaking of birthdays, I know someone here who's having a BIG one tomorrow. Birthday, pervs. ;)

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:18 PM

ecl: Whenever Papi gets a good hit, an orphaned kitten gets rescued. . . . Won't Papi think of the kittens?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:20 PM

I don't believe it, it's Jim "Fucking" Rice

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:22 PM

Liza - haha. He DOES have have weird fishy-lips.

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:22 PM

Is it weird that I'm nervous about this game?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:23 PM

Apparently the NESN cameraman wanted to give the ladies a more appreciative view of Beckett.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:23 PM

Oh, it was much appreciated.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:24 PM

Enjoyed the view.
I take it it's cold at Fenway.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:24 PM

Mac - Don't forget his tendency to look like a stoned gopher.

Disclaimer: I'm only this mean to very few ballplayers. And most of them are named Johnny Damon or Alex Rodriguez.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:26 PM

Did anyone watch the Yankees game last night, and after?

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:26 PM

Liza that is funny. I'm mean to Damon and A-Rod as well. Not to sure which one I hate more.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:27 PM

I was switching between that and football.

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:28 PM

I watched the Emmys and was very happy that Mad Men won Best Drama.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:28 PM

Liza - Hehe. I think I'll be thinking of Grady as a "stoned fishy gopher" from now on.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:31 PM

I actually watched part of the game, but I turned it off after they shoved Michael Kay in the booth along with Morgan and Miller.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:31 PM

At the beginning of the Yankees game there were so many fans yelling Damons' name he did some kind of elvis like dance in the field, it was so bad. I tuned out after the parade around the field post game, tears and collecting dirt.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:31 PM

Ryan Garko, Jed Lowrie, and Chris Carter were teammates at Stanford together. Carlos Quentin was there at the same time as well.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:32 PM

Saturday's game time has been moved from 7:05 to 3:55 and will now be broadcast on FOX.

Dammit, don't they know I'm busy!?!? I've GOT to get my dining room done.

I was about to bake some quad-chocolate chip cookies, had everything ready to go and found out I didn't have enough flour. ugh.

Beckett? WTH?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:32 PM

Let's play some beanball

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:32 PM

Come on Josh.

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:32 PM

Cut the crap Beckett!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:33 PM

Beckett: Please get your crap together.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:33 PM

Karen, as a native New Yorker and ex-NYY fan, in the interest of baseball history and etc., I felt compelled to watch everything that transpired last night, starting with the pregame. I'm exhausted today, as you may imagine.

I was distracted for a few here and missed the good view of Beckett. Maybe they'll do it again?

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:33 PM

Get out. now.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:33 PM

Cut the shit, Beckett. EXECUTE THE PITCHES. THROW STRIKES.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:34 PM

Hi everyone. Good luck with you dining room jules. Painting's a bitch. I hate it

What the hell Beckett?

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:34 PM

He doesn't have it tonight. He's missing a lot of pitches.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:34 PM

What the hell is going on?

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:34 PM

WTF?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:34 PM

What.
The.
Fuck.
Is.
Going.
On.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:34 PM

where the fuck was that pitch mr ump

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

Karen, ESPN cut away to SportsCenter right around the time you stopped watching the postgame.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

WTF Beckett?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

Awww SHIT.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

dammit, Beckett!

Thanks, Angie. I'm doing venetian plaster and it'll take at least four coats. I've got one done. I'm going to be so busy. I'm ready to be done with the house projects. Really.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

Well this sucks.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

WTG Josh. Dumbass.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:35 PM

Joshua Patrick Beckett, THROW FUCKING STRIKES, AND EXECUTE FUCKING PITCHES!

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:36 PM

FISHY FISHY STONED FISHY... make an out please.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:36 PM

Joshua Patrick,

WTH is wrong with you?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:38 PM

BecKKett

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:38 PM

It's 56 degrees at game time for those asking about the cold.

Here's some in between innings entertainment for y'all with my sincerest apologies to our host.

http://tinyurl.com/42vnlw

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:38 PM

WHEW! That could've been a lot worse.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:38 PM

HA -- no more Fishy!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:39 PM

BecKKett, freakin' finally.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:39 PM

It's about time BecKKett got with the program. . . . He's not supposed to be doing that to us. (But better now than next week, I guess.)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:39 PM

I don't think calling a pitcher a "dumbass" for missing his location is the proper response. It's not like he's stupid and intentionally threw the pitch wrong.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:40 PM

THANK YOU Ian!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:41 PM

Okay Jedster, get things rolling here!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:41 PM

Ian: I guess NESN should have used "Wild Thing" for their montage instead, huh?

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:41 PM

Thanks, Ian!

On the first montage, who is butchering Skynyrd?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:41 PM

I *know* that made Bethie happy! Trish too, among others.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:42 PM

I must say, Jackson has a really cool delivery.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:43 PM

Nice try, Kotsay.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:43 PM

that was way too quick.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:44 PM

Grr I don't like flyballs.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:44 PM

Beckett musical montages for the mother fucking win.

Especially loved the *bad words* moment at the end of the second one. I heart intense, pissed off Beckett.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:44 PM

It seemed to me (operative word is "seemed") that he was trying to get Garcko off the plate. When you're not locating your pitches to begin with that's not a wise thing to do.

(shrugs) He's come back from bad innings, I'm just concerned about the pitch count.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:45 PM

And thanks for the montages, Ian. (saves, loves on Firefox)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:45 PM

Totally unrelated to baseball: Is anyone else out there dealing with severe gas shortages since Ike? I kid you not, around here there are gas lines, cops to keep control, and the local newspaper is posting lists of which stations actually have gas. There's also been a lot of gouging, as you may imagine.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:46 PM

Okay, I'm officially miffed.

My internet was out for about 5 minutes and I missed Garko getting hit by a pitch.

Dammit.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:46 PM

ohhhhhhhhhhh...WANT the seats. WANT, WANT, WANT.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:46 PM

Oh, those seats are lovely.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:46 PM

ecl, we don't have any of those issues out here.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:47 PM

BecKKKett!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:48 PM

BecKKKett.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:48 PM

Aren't those seats cool? I could put them in the guest/game room...if I had the money. ha.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:48 PM

My husband said our usual gas station was out but he found some easily enough. There was a price spike too.

BecKKKett, good.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:51 PM

Y'all are welcome.

Jules, I can't find anyone who covers the song. They have done a version of it with Kid Rock.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:52 PM

When leaving St. Petersburg Thursday, I had to drive an hr to find gas. However, it was still .30 cheaper than where I live.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:52 PM

It seems to be mainly a problem in the Southeast, Jules. I was just reading about similar issues in Atlanta. I'm starting to get worried about how I'm going to fill my tank later this week.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:52 PM

Thanks, Ian. I'm a big Skynyrd fan (listened to them all day at work today) and that was just wrong.

Much better, BecKKKett!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:53 PM

Karen, last I checked my area is about .40 over the state average.

Nice work, Josh. Give us a few more just like that!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:53 PM

Gas is good around here and its price has dropped a good amount over the last few weeks. Now it's around $3.40.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:54 PM

Sorry to hear that, ecl. There's no change out here (other than the ridiculous prices).

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:54 PM

Phew, he seems to have settled down.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:55 PM

We had dropped into the 3.70 to 3.80 range before Ike. Now it's more like 4.10, 4.20 when you can find it.

On a baseball note, I'm laughing at the Cleveland roster pics on Gameday. What a bunch of funny looking guys.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:55 PM

Well, think about it this way: you could be like my parents in Houston who are STILL without power. And have no idea when they'll be getting it back.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:56 PM

Our gas is still about 3.60-3.80 here depending on where you go. I go to the grocery store and use my card to save 45 cents a gallon. Of course my Jeep only gets filled up once a month.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:57 PM

Texy, that's horrible! Did they have any property damage or other troubles? I hope they're OK.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:57 PM

But I'm sure your parents could go to the Orange Juice Park or Reliant Stadium and have power.

There's something seriously wrong about that. The good thing is your parents made it through the awfulness that is Ike

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:57 PM

Oh, Ells. I heart you.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:57 PM

Ells!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:58 PM

Texy, I remember the no power for a month, it is hard. I hope it returns soon.
I happy if gas is less than 4.15

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:58 PM

TG, Sorry about your parents. I hope they're okay even without the power?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:58 PM

I'm feeling a SB here...

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 7:58 PM

Jacoby's speed changes games.

And, in other breaking news, dog bites man.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:00 PM

Christ, I'm annoyed when gas spikes over $3.70 here.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:00 PM

Ian, thanks for the montages. Finally got a chance to watch it last commercial.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:00 PM

The big huge oak tree that was outside my bedroom window got uprooted out of the ground in one piece, and tossed onto the next door neighbor's house -- shearing it in half.

So my parents count themselves lucky with no power, no phone, broken glass, shingle damage, and tons of downed trees .

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:01 PM

Golly, Texy, that's a shame about your folks and their power. Are they in Houston itself, or southeast? I'm pretty sure all of my family there has their power back (all in various parts of the city).

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:02 PM

Geez Texy that sounds awful. I hope they are okay.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:02 PM

Texy, do they have access to cell phones yet? Last week my cousin said that his service was very dicey.

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:02 PM

That is amazing, Texy. I can't imagine. I'm glad they're safe, tho.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:03 PM

Ian: Just realized I forgot to say thanks for the video. . . .

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:03 PM

Ditto from me, Ian. I always enjoy the montages because otherwise I wouldn't get to see them at all. :::kicks mlb.tv in the shins:::

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

Youk!

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

YOUKKK

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

How about some RBIs Youk?

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

Yes!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

YOUK!!!

on September 22, 2008 8:04 PM

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:05 PM

Hurricanes are nothing to screw around with. Richmond's literally about seventy miles from the coast and it got messed up when Isabel came through in '03--and that was a Category 1 and a weak one at that. Glad you and yours are okay, TG.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:05 PM

Oh now I feel a little dumb/psychic.

Stupid mlb.tv delay

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:05 PM

If you haven't, you might want to check both pitchers' lines out of Baltimore through four.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:06 PM

Liza, oh trust me, I have been keeping tabs on that game since it started. Other than a few walks...

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:07 PM

Two for Price and one for Bass. This should be interesting.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:09 PM

Make that two for Bass.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:09 PM

Liza: Wow. That's kinda creepy, actually.

(What's the protocol on this sort of situation when it's not your team? Does it make a difference whether it's the team you're playing or if it's another game altogether?)

[ jules ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:10 PM

BecKKKKett!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:10 PM

sit down in your seat pronk

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:11 PM

BecKKKKett!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:11 PM

BecKKKKett's got his groove back.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:11 PM

I'm wondering if the usual protocol might hold just because of a certain team that's involved???

BecKKKKett!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:13 PM

Pronk, Ian?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:14 PM

that's hafner's nickname.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:14 PM

I was just wondering the same thing.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:15 PM

Bass's control has gone AWOL and he just walked two more. Bases loaded for Tampa now.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:15 PM

Anytime I see Kelly Shoppach now, I'm only going to be able to think: SPREAD KILLER.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:16 PM

Hafner was given the nickname "Pronk" by former teammate Bill Selby during spring training when people would sometimes refer to him as "The Project" and other times "Donkey" for the way he looked when running the bases.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:16 PM

Ha. They took him out.

Anyway, back in Boston now.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:17 PM

He must have been thinking about the spread right there.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:17 PM

That was hilarious. I love Sean Casey.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:17 PM

Everyone calls Travis Hafner "Pronk".

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:17 PM

Ooh. This is good. BecKKKKKett is PISSED.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:18 PM

BecKKKKKett

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:19 PM

I can't believe the TB game is not on here. I have 2 Fl sports channels.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:20 PM

Karen, Tampa just got 2 runs on a bases loaded Iwamura single.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:21 PM

that was a nasty curveball from Jackson

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:25 PM

A few people were saying today that if MLB had been smart they would have closed down Yankee Stadium with the Sox series. The last game against our biggest rivals ... that would have been awesome.

SPREAD KILLER ALERT

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:25 PM

Jackson has good stuff, I must say.

Also, Longoria just E5'd.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:26 PM

But how do you have good stuff with an ERA of 6+?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:27 PM

Yay a hit for the Orioles!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:27 PM

Yeah, I don't understand why they DIDN'T end the season with Sox at NYY. That would have been quite a show.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:28 PM

Jacoby being Jacoby!

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:29 PM

Who is this guy in the booth?

I looked up from TB/O's Gameday and this guy's talking about alcohol and drugs.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:29 PM

Oops. Not so much Jacoby being Jacoby, I guess. (Stupid MLB.tv!)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:30 PM

Beckett, stop that!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:31 PM

Ughhh how is Beckett being outpiched by Jackson?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:31 PM

If "this guy" doesn't shut up, I'm going to go postal.

Thankfully, he's done. I'm an old hippie and I despise that kind of talk.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:32 PM

Sorry, didn't mean to get political.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:32 PM

Ugh not cool.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:32 PM

Nice save by Lowrie. That could've been bad.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:33 PM

Dude, my dad ate dinner at home with us every night and I STILL smoked pot, so STFU.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:33 PM

Ugh. Beckett, you are making me very sad right now. Please cut it out.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:33 PM

sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:33 PM

Ughhhh

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:33 PM

Me too, Trish. :::my blood pressure will return to normal after awhile, don't worry:::

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:34 PM

Dammit.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:34 PM

At least the birds tied up the game.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:34 PM

Again: NOT COOL.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:35 PM

Ugh. That guy was so annoying. I am glad that he left.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:35 PM

Let's go Birds!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:35 PM

To quote a friend of mine, JOSHUA PATRICK BECKETT YOU START THROWING STRIKES THIS INSTANT OR I WILL KICK YOUR ASS.

/not really but still

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:38 PM

Awww, shit. What in blazes is going on here?

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:38 PM

GAAAAAH

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:38 PM

Gameday is ahead of mlb.tv...DAMMIT, MFSOB!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:38 PM

Oh man, someone make this better soon.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:39 PM

Beckett isn't looking so hot tonight.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:39 PM

Just remember ladies & gentlemen... one sox win or one yankees loss..... 7 games to go..... that is all that we need.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:39 PM

Beckett! What the HELL are you doing?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:39 PM

Someone please stop the pain...

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:41 PM

Problem is Yanks are off tonight.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:41 PM

The bleeding stops, thank God.

Time to get to work, guys.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:42 PM

Finally the inning is over. Please offense...

[ Erin ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:44 PM

Cliff Lee is pitching tomorrow night right?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:44 PM

The answer to the AFLAC trivia question is Grady Sizemore and Cliff Lee.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:45 PM

That would be correct Erin

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:45 PM

Okay, time for Papi to save some kittens.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:47 PM

WTG BIG PAPI!!!!!!!!!

[ starr4 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:47 PM

Woohoo!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:47 PM

PAPI!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:47 PM

Yes!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:47 PM

PAPI! The sun is out and the little kittens are dancing!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:48 PM

THE KITTENS LIVE!!!!!!

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:48 PM

PAPI!! How many kittens does he save when he homers?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:49 PM

Angie, I bet he saves his weight in kittens, at least! :::grinning from ear to ear:::

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:50 PM

That's a WHOLE lotta kittens.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:50 PM

I should say so, Trish!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:51 PM

Not only does he save his weight in kittens, but he also cures 20 kids of cancer.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:51 PM

Ecl: HAHAHA. The kitten orphanages are getting empty.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:52 PM

It's SUPERPAPI!!! Bringing the sunshine, saving kittens, and curing cancer with one mighty swing!

:::golly, I love our big guy:::

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:53 PM

Angie, when he's done shutting down the kitten orphanages he can get started on the puppies.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:53 PM

BecKKKKKKett strikes out the Spread Killer again!

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:55 PM

And after that he'll solve global warming.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:56 PM

But...but...in order to help put a stop to global warming he'd have to extinguish his great big smile. Can't have that.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:57 PM

I lost internet access from the 3rd inning to now. What did I miss?

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:58 PM

Well, then, the mortgage crisis.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:58 PM

True...then I'd rather have global warming than live without his smile. More beaches for us!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:58 PM

HAHA Trish.

:::is brain dead, someone else can get Mac caught up:::

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 8:59 PM

Preferably tropical beaches, in honor of Papi's Dominican heritage.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:00 PM

C'mon BATS!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:01 PM

A Papi homer, Mac.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:02 PM

Phew... 2 kids in bed. 1 to go. then I can enjoy the game, some tea & cheesy nachos in peace.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:02 PM

OMG, It's Brendan Donnelly. What are the odds he's going to hit somebody?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:03 PM

Thanks, Cathy.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:09 PM

FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. I don't know who to blame there.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:09 PM

WTF was that?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:09 PM

UGH

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:10 PM

Something from little league?

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:10 PM

That was so fucking ugly!!!!!!!!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:10 PM

Tito looked like he was in shock there.

Dammit. :::kicks nearest inanimate object:::

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:10 PM

BAY! What were you thinking?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:11 PM

Tito was totally not amused with that.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:11 PM

Aaaaand, TB has pulled ahead 3-2.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:11 PM

And now the Rays are up 3-2.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:12 PM

Plays like that are the very reason I need to keep alcohol in the house. :(

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:13 PM

I blame DeMarlo Hale after rewatching that.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:13 PM

As Josh leaves, so do I. See y'all on Saturday.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:18 PM

And Trish heads for the dark side. :::wink:::

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:18 PM

*crickets*

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:20 PM

Okay, I demand runs be scored.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:20 PM

nice job justin.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:20 PM

Scratch that. Somehow, the comments before mine didn't show up when I refreshed the page.

Nice DP!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:20 PM

What would we do w/o Masterson?

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:20 PM

Good Justin.

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:21 PM

Nice, J Mast. Yay for double plays.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:25 PM

Ells!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:25 PM

Jacoby!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:26 PM

Pedie!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:26 PM

:::begging and pleading:::

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:27 PM

I want kittens to be saved!

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:28 PM

I'm trying to think of a way to combine Pedie and Jacoby's name but I can't think of anything.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:28 PM

He may have saved a few there, Jessi. It's a start, anyway.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:30 PM

Jacodria

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:30 PM

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:31 PM

Dustoby

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:31 PM

Or Pedroby?

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:31 PM

Uhh...Jacedie? Duscoby? Ellsdroia?

Yeah, it just doesn't work.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:31 PM

YOUK!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:32 PM

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:32 PM

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:32 PM

Yes!

[ Liza ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:32 PM

I just instinctively did the Fisk "STAY FAIR" arm motion thing and yelled a lot. Now my dog is giving me a really weird look.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:32 PM

Is everyone on mlb.tv? How come I didn't get a "spoiler" for that one?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:33 PM

I'm on mlbtv

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:33 PM

make'em pay jeb

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:34 PM

Jennie, we were still racking our brains about combining Pedie and Jacoby.

Okay Jed...your LLBB is on base...c'mon now...

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:34 PM

straight up NESN here

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:34 PM

YOUKK! Yeah they're both unusual names so it's hard. Pedroby isn't bad.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:35 PM

Jactin

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:35 PM

I'm watching on MLB.tv .

[ Kim ] says:

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:37 PM

Breathe in.
Breathe out.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:37 PM

Oh Jed. :(

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:37 PM

Fuckin' spoiler. :(

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:39 PM

Kotsay needs outta this slump.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:39 PM

I was in Bermuda this weekend. I couldn't get any Red Sox updates until ESPN ran the scores at night. It sucked.

[ cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:40 PM

Okay, it's now a 1 run game, with 2 innings to go. We can so win this!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:40 PM

Shit.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:40 PM

Ugh!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:40 PM

That was made of epic suck.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:40 PM

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:41 PM

:::KICKS INANIMATE OBJECT AGAIN:::

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:41 PM

Well, Kim...at least you were in Bermuda!

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:41 PM

Fuckkk! Have I mentioned that I hate fly balls??

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:42 PM

Yeah, something about the Bermuda part of that story made me a lot less sympathetic.

I just thought it was my pissy mood.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:45 PM

Oh, I was referring to Bermuda in bright and shiny (and a tad jealous!) tones when I said that, Jennie.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:46 PM

Yeah, I'm not very bright and shiny right now, my apologies.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:47 PM

Did I mention how much I love J-Mast?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:47 PM

Nice 1-2-3 inning, Justin!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:47 PM

Please Sox hit something.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:47 PM

Good job, guys. Now, once we get back to the top of the lineup...

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:48 PM

Justin Masterson found his command, I see.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:48 PM

Jennie, I'm about to drop from exhaustion myself. I was doing the glass half full thing as best I could.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:49 PM

I'm in a "glass half poison" mood, but mostly due to a crappy few weeks at work.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:50 PM

Heyy everyone. I was gone for a week and I see that Javy and Justin are growing facial hair now? Did I miss something? Did Papelbon beat them in a bet or something?

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:51 PM

It was my first vacation (sans kids) in 10 years... and it was only 48 hrs in Bermuda, but yes Bermuda non the less. Sorry for making your crappy mood worse Jennie.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:51 PM

Papelbon had a bit of facial hair himself the other night. I thought it looked good on him. Just a bit of scruff. :)

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:52 PM

Kim, I was on a cruise all of last week. So now Sox! You dont understand how sad I was! And then yesterday on the airplane coming home the game was on! I literally screamed on the airplane and my mom freaked out because she thought something bad happened!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:52 PM

Jennie, things at my job have been so ridiculous lately that it's reached the point of shrugging and laughing because sometimes that's all that can be done.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:52 PM

Oh, I was just teasing in a pissy way, Kim.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:52 PM

They're trying the playoff beard a week early?

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:53 PM

Woops, that should say "no Sox"

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:53 PM

Is it sad that I on vacation in a nice place and I was pissed that I couldn't watch baseball. What does that say about me?

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:53 PM

So what is Tek now? 4 for his last 36??

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:53 PM

I know Jennie... but I'm still sorry. :-)

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:54 PM

Crap tek. Crap.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:54 PM

Kim, I was in Bahamas, Puerto Rico + St. Thomas and I was also still pissed that I couldnt watch baseball!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:54 PM

Casey!

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:55 PM

Casey gets it started....

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:55 PM

Looks like Coco has a cold. His nose is all red.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:55 PM

Kim, I remember at one of my family reunions a few years ago I was simply ecstatic when my cousins and I found a Yankees/Sox game on TV! And this was at a lovely resort in the San Diego area. We were glued to the TV!

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:55 PM

And they pull the slow white guy.....

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:55 PM

Come on Jake!

Fresh new kicks Coco!

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:55 PM

Might I suggest a vacation during the off season? :)

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

nice job by the mayor of spreads

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

"the slow white guy" haha

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

We checked in and the first thing that I did was look for NESN. We were after all not that far from Boston.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

And I didn't know he's been dealing with a sore foot as well. Poor Covelli... :::gives him a big hug:::

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

LOL Jennie. Can you come clean the mountain dew off my screen.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

Come on my little Navajo!

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:56 PM

Or an iPhone - at least you can follow the game, although the international charges would kill you.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:57 PM

It was for our 15th anniversary..... It's hard to move the anniversary.....

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:57 PM

C'mon, time for some Jacoco power!

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:57 PM

Sighhh

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:57 PM

Jacoby, that was NOT helpful!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:58 PM

DAMMIT!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:58 PM

no bueno jacoby no bueno

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:58 PM

I had my blackberry but data rates were international (so huge) so I was good and didn't turn the data on.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:58 PM

Ugh.

[ Kim ] says:

Sigh

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:58 PM

I would be upset with Jake, but he's scored 2 or the 3 runs that we have...so I'll give him a break

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:59 PM

No Jacoco love tonight... :::waaahh:::

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:59 PM

I guess I'm spoiled. My SO has a laptop with an air card so when the baseball is on, we are watching, whever we are.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:59 PM

bottom of the 9th...last chance for the o's to come back. Rays up 4-2

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 9:59 PM

I hate the Bob's Discount Furniture ads.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:00 PM

My husband refused to bring his laptop because it was "vacation" not work. Sigh.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:00 PM

Not a fraction as much as I hate these "Change your TV, Change your life" commercials.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:01 PM

We have an unhealthy addiction. :)

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:01 PM

Okey Dokey let's have a 1-2-3 inning.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:01 PM

My husband has the unhealthy addiction too. I think that he thought we'd have more TV channels at the hotel. :-)

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:02 PM

Nice pick by Kotsay.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:02 PM

I'd be in a rehab hospital were it not for mlb.tv, I swear!

[ Kim ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:03 PM

Maybe you just need to move back to where you can get NESN.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:03 PM

y'all need to move up here so you can just have NESN all the time.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:04 PM

Move back to where you can get NESN and make sure the zip code indicates an address in California, so you get the "on the go" games.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:06 PM

I can't afford to relocate. Wish I could. There are so many places I'd rather be other than North Carolina. Someday...

[ Ian ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:06 PM

When i first moved to west haven, we didn't have NESN. I had to rely on the radio, national tv games and the Yankees. I almost moved back towards where I grew up just to get it. Then one day it just magically appeared on the channels.

Now if fucking comcast would add ESPNU i'd be all set. I live in CT but i get the damn Big Ten Network. I don't like any teams in teh Big Ten.

Nice job okie dokie. Come on boys, let's get Ian a vulture win and celebrate hard.

[ Jennie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:06 PM

Wow - Oki!!!

[ Kim ] says:

[ Kim ] says:

[ Angie ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:07 PM

To have NESN is one of my many dreams. I'll move someday.

Nice Okie Dokie.

[ Mac ] says:

[ Avery ] says:

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:15 PM

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 22, 2008 10:17 PM

At least I'm tired enough that I'll sleep off the sad, maybe a little bit, anyway.
