So the MFY are playing the Rays tonight, leading to a bizarro situation wherein I'm rooting for the Skanks.

It feels weird.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 6:59 PM

I feel lost without my site right now. :((

I'll be back. Need to feed the fat kid in the house.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:09 PM

Another day, another line-up. . . .

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:11 PM

SoxPhan:

Instead, you should root for a 37-inning game that causes them to use so many pitchers that they're both wrecked for the rest of the series (and the month). . . .

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:11 PM

Hey guys, just one thing to say:

Lets go Yankees!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:12 PM

KK Lester!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:12 PM

Nice 1st inning!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:14 PM

Hi all! Nice 1st inning for Lester.

Go Blue Jays. (Cannot bring myself to root for the Yankees, even though I hate Tampa more.)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:14 PM

Nice inning, Jonny!

I'm hoping that each of the Yanks/Rays games goes for about 40 innings.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:14 PM

Yep, I'm pulling for New York tonight too. Feels weird.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:14 PM

Annnndddd the Rays have, of course, supplied their fans with thousands of cowbells (I'm watching both the Sox and Yankee game).

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:15 PM

Pedie in the cleanup spot again!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:15 PM

Jessi - Those cowbells may be one of the most annoying things I've ever heard.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:16 PM

Jesus, we need guys to stop getting hurt.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:17 PM

Hey y'all!

While I can't really say, "Go Yankees!" I hope they do win. In many, many extra innings in each game. Yep, that would work.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:18 PM

Papi!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:19 PM

Mac - Same here, those cowbells need to die. I don't understand how the Rays own players can listen to them.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:21 PM

Do the cowbells serve any purpose other than to make everybody deaf?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:23 PM

Jessi - Me neither. Those things just need to go away.

[ Danielle ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:24 PM

Hey everyone!

My guess is the cowbells are supposed to make up for how few people actually show up to the Trop

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:24 PM

As do these injuries. I arrived late to the game (and the lineup card) and just now became aware of Youk's injury. Ugh.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:24 PM

It's so bizarre, Danielle...with TB's record, you'd think the fans would come out in droves.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:26 PM

If Millar leans over the plate any further, he's gonna tip over.

[ Danielle ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:27 PM

Florida is not a regular season baseball place for a home team at least. In Orlando, everyone is like me - a transplant from up north that likes teams outside FL and if they're from around here, then they prefer NCAA football and Nascar

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:29 PM

True, Danielle, and of course, the FL teams are comparatively new so haven't had time to build up multiple generations of fans like the Sox and NYY.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:30 PM

Great throw Jacoby! Good D, Tek!

wooohoooo!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:30 PM

YAY!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:30 PM

TEK!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:30 PM

Awesome!!! Tek and Ells rock!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:30 PM

Loved the look on Tek's face as he went back to the dugout...and the runner is still arguing. HA!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:30 PM

Nice throw Jacoby!! And great job, Tek!!

[ Danielle ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:31 PM

Exactly. Thank goodness for the DP. I'll be back - have to get ready for a long day of class and meetings on campus tomorrow.

Go Sox!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:32 PM

Wow, we got very luckyyy on that call.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:33 PM

Well, we *did* catch a break there. Good blocking by Tek ;-)

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:34 PM

Wow Upton just made one of the greatest catches I've ever seen to take extra bases from Arod.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:34 PM

As the announcers say, it was "framed" perfectly to look like an out--even though it was a run.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:34 PM

Tek!

LOVE that he's hitting again.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:34 PM

Wow...we definitely caught a break with that call.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:35 PM

Tek!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:35 PM

Tek!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:37 PM

Finally here. Have been cleaning up flooded friend's condo caused by ac unit. Then there was a snake outside my door. Terrified of snakes.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:40 PM

That doesn't sound like much fun, Karen.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:42 PM

Very nice DP!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:42 PM

Nice DP!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:44 PM

Horrible baserunning by our old pal Hinske that cost the Rays a run. 3B coach held up the runner at third, and then Hinske proceeded to run to third (instead of stopping at 2B).

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:44 PM

I hate to say it but Ellsbury doesn't have the greatest arm. That was Damon 15 hopper to the plate.

But good job by Tek to block the umpires view

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:45 PM

Karen, you'll love this story:

(yeah for turning the DP)

My daughter was in love with snakes and worked hard to save up for one when she was five years old (by working hard, I mean setting the table, etc.).

After we had Snakey for a couple months, she graduate to eating baby mice. We were told that snakes like to eat around dusk, so I put the dinner on my daughter's dresser (in a cardboard box) and put my daughter in the bathtub.

I got her out of tub in time to see a black fuzzy thing running down the hall! The mouse ate its way out of the box! I had a wet, naked girl screaming while I tried to capture the mouse. Hysterical!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:45 PM

Am I hallucinating or did that last panoramic shot of Fenway show it as being DARK out? Already?

:::damn, summer really is over:::

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:46 PM

Not a hallucination, ecl. (At least it's not mid-December, when sunset is like 4:00!)

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:46 PM

Eww!

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:48 PM

Lester...strikes!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:48 PM

Hullo, friends.

Ells does not have the greatest arm, but I appreciate that his throw was accurate!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:48 PM

it's already dark out up here.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:49 PM

C'mon, Jonny. Please get the out.

[ Adam ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:49 PM

The Ellsbury assist was probably the greatest outfield assist I've ever seen in my life

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:49 PM

It's still sunny here.

(couldn't resist)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:50 PM

It's still light here. Granted, it won't be for much longer. But because we're farther south and a LOT farther west, sunset is much later here. On the other hand, you guys have ridiculously early sunrises up there, at least in the spring. I remember that from my last trip to New York. I was really puzzled to see the sun UP in the sky at 5:30 in the morning! Yeah, I remember those 4-something sunsets in upstate NY, though!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:50 PM

It's still sunny where I am, too.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:52 PM

It's dark where I am.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:53 PM

Jules and Mac, brag, brag, brag! :::giggles::: Just you wait a few hours, your turn will come.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:53 PM

6:21 AM Sunrise tomorrow 7:21 PM sunset

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:54 PM

Yay for Coco bunting!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:56 PM

7:03 AM and 7:55 PM here, Ian. So we actually have less daylight but it's rotated considerably.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:56 PM

Coco being Jacoby!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:57 PM

Hmm--Jacoby and Coco on the bases together. Mayhem ensues?

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:57 PM

C'mon, Jeddy, like the games of old ...

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:58 PM

6:48 AM and 7:57 PM here.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:58 PM

jenny: old = "a month ago?"

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 7:59 PM

Now I'm curious. ;D 6:17, 7:22

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:00 PM

Cathy, where are you?

Yeah, bases loaded!!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:00 PM

Woot bases loaded!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:00 PM

lone1c - Exactly. ;D

Uh oh, huddle, must be trouble!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:00 PM

Woohoo! Bases loaded!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:01 PM

I'm in Blackville, New Brunswick, ecl.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:01 PM

Hmm--I'm at (6:33, 7:19) over here.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:01 PM

7:02am, 7:41pm

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:02 PM

come on, Papi!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:02 PM

PAPI

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:03 PM

yeah!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:03 PM

PAPI!!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:03 PM

PAPI!!!!!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:03 PM

PAPI!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:03 PM

Yeah PAPI!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:03 PM

Woohoo!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:04 PM

Woot for Big Papi!

But how the heck did Lowrie catch up to Ellsbury?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:04 PM

You can tell who has the delay when a good play happens.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:04 PM

Pedie!! (that was a great catch though)

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:05 PM

Lowrie read the ball as a hit the whole way while Ellsbury had to wait on the runner in front of him.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:05 PM

Yeah, Pedey! (A run is a run. . . .)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:05 PM

Damn. That was a nice catch. At least we got a run in.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:06 PM

Kotsay!!!!!!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:06 PM

KOTS!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:06 PM

new new new guy!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:06 PM

KOTSAY!!!!!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:06 PM

NEW NEW NEW GUY!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:07 PM

NEW NEW GUY!

Does he have a hit that isn't a double?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:07 PM

New New New Guy!!!

And so nice to see Papi running!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:07 PM

I hope there is some quality teasing happening between Ells and Lowrie about that ...

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:08 PM

Luckily, even though their names are similar, Kotsay's speed is not the same as Casey's. . . .

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:09 PM

jessi: Kotsay has had six hits for us. Five of them have been doubles.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:11 PM

Mmm, crooked number hung on the board.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:14 PM

People who go to games and talk on cell phones are annoying.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:14 PM

So Cathy, I had to Google your location because it was unfamiliar to me (the town, not the province). Looks like it's quite remote!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:14 PM

That guy behind Heidi Wantme should have given her rabbit ears or something.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:15 PM

It is very remote, ecl. There isn't a lot to do here.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:15 PM

Blackville is considered the Salmon Capital of the Miramichi

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:16 PM

well at least you get internet in your remote part of the world. I'll bet it's real WARM there during the winter.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:17 PM

nice catch tacoby

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:17 PM

JACOBY!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:18 PM

Ellsbury!!!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:18 PM

Jacoby! VERY NICE CATCH!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:18 PM

"Anonymous" obviously looked on Wikipedia, as did I. I hope you like salmon!

And yeah, no doubt it's...uh...real warm there around January. Poor you, Cathy. Although Wiki does talk about some decent restaurants.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:19 PM

Was fixing supper and missed the catch -- just saw the replay. Good thing there was no chain link fence this time!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:20 PM

The internet connection is really spotty here. My house can get it, but not the people down the street from me.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:20 PM

C'mon, Jonny. Please get the outs.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:20 PM

Faith - AMEN. ;D

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:21 PM

C'mon, Jonny, first pitch strikes, just like Beckett taught you.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:21 PM

Lester: Please find the strike zone again.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:22 PM

Little ground ball, kid. Little GIDP.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:22 PM

Hey Jenny, ya think Coco agrees? :::giggles:::

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:23 PM

Lester stikes down in the zone....

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:23 PM

Atta boy, Jonny-KKK.

(Faith - YES. ;D )

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:23 PM

Okay, Jonny, one more...

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

Jonny-KKKK! Nice. V. Nice.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

Yeah Jon!!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

Nice job, Jonny!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

Lester KKKK!

[ Lester ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

KKKK!

Not too bad considering second and third, noboby out.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

Lester: Thanks for the prompt and efficient customer service.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:25 PM

Oof: 77 pitches through four. :P

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:31 PM

Yanks lead 3-1 (thank you fellow Pirate OF - Nady!)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:31 PM

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:32 PM

Brief game update: Skanks-Devils are knotted at 1 in the top of the fourth. Skanks are up 3-1 against the Devils in the top of the fourth.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:32 PM

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:32 PM

Always nice to see the bullpen band. :D

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:32 PM

JACOBY!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:33 PM

We need to get the MDC Band together with the folks from "Stomp." The results will be spectacular.

And yay for run-scoring. . . .

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:33 PM

JACOBY!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:33 PM

And Jed gets his fifth BB of the series. . . .

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:35 PM

[ Jessi ] says:

I'm liking this game.

[ Karen ] says:

[ Mary ] says:

Hi all!

I still can't watch the games because
A: I don't have my TV in my room yet
B: I'm still doing incoming freshman "First Days" hooplah.

So I'm "watching" it on Gameday.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:39 PM

wooohoooooooo!!!!

Great start to the game.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:40 PM

Way to go Pedey.

The Sox are giving me a wonderful birthday present so far!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:41 PM

DUSTIN!!!
Why must you hit homers when I can't cheer and yell about it?
I love you anyway :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:41 PM

P.S. Manny who?

[ jenny again ] says:

on September 2, 2008 8:43 PM

Happy B-day, lone!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:43 PM

Happy Birthday.
Mine's next week. I know a lot of people in September.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:44 PM

Happy birthday, lone1c!

[ Danielle ] says:

I'm back finally. Loving the score right now!

Happy Birthday, lone1c!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:45 PM

Thanks, everybody.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:46 PM

Mine's in three weeks, so you can add me to the September babies list, Karen.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:46 PM

Jacoby!

Great defense tonight!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:46 PM

Seriously, Ells has stepped up his defense lately (and I love it).

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:46 PM

Jacoby!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:46 PM

I think Jacoby needs a raise.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:47 PM

Welcome back, Danielle!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:47 PM

(I don't make a big deal out of it, which is a good thing considering I live in the frakkin' middle of nowhere and have a holiday-weekend birthday, so it usually gets lost in the midst of everything else going on, like travel plans and back-to-school silliness.)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:47 PM

Jacoby! Another very nice catch!

[ EricaC ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:47 PM

Happy Birthday lone1c!!

You can add me as well to the September babies list.... my birthday is 19 days away and counting!!

Erica, our birthdays almost match!

Awww, lone, birthdays are a time to celebrate. So this is officially your chance to make it a BIG DEAL! :::smiles:::

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:49 PM

Jonny-KKKKK. Bwee!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:50 PM

Thanks, EricaC. (That's what, a third of the people in here with September birthdays?)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:50 PM

I lost my mlb.tv connection just as they were showing the replay of that catch, and I *still* haven't been able to get the broadcast back, dammit.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:50 PM

Lester KKKKK

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:52 PM

Yeah! I have jury duty tomorrow!

Well, I get to sleep in AND go to the gym, so I'm happy.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:52 PM

My family and friends are September, January Birthdays. January is the most, almost every day of the month taken.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:52 PM

Happy birthday lone.

my uncle's (mom's bro) is tomorrow. Dad's is the 8th and mom's is the 11th (Both born same year) and grandma's is the 12th.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:52 PM

Battle here, Jonny. C'mon, kid.

[ Danielle ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:53 PM

Thanks, Mac!

lone1c, I totally understand the birthday deal, mine is December 30 so holidays and winter break make it difficult

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:53 PM

C'mon, Jonny. Please get the out.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:53 PM

I'm a January (29th) baby or fat kid depending on how you look at it

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:54 PM

Christ Lester, 95 pitches in less than five innings?

5-1 Yanks!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:54 PM

C'mon, 31. C'mon here.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:55 PM

I love it when DO and Remy get the giggles. That camera would drive me crazy, too.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:55 PM

OK, way to wiggle, Jonny.

Lester being Matsuzaka!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:55 PM

Remy and Orsillo are this close to losing it.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:56 PM

when aren't they lone

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:57 PM

jenny - Lester being Matsuzaka.... There's no better way of describing it.

Love when Don and Remy break and start laughing. It's hilarious.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:58 PM

Maaan, this sucks. I'm having Internet connection problems (checked the connection speed and it's about half what it should be) and I can't even get Gameday Audio to work right now...

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:59 PM

I'm dying! That's hysterical. The producers are having a lot of fun with DO.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 8:59 PM

It's amazing they keep stop laughing enough to do some play by play.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:00 PM

I love it when they can't stop laughing... Poor Don.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:00 PM

Haha I love Remy silently dying of laughter.

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:00 PM

But Remy can't even talk. I couldn't be in the booth with them, I'd be laughing hysterically.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:01 PM

Karen, we are Sept/Jan birthdays too. Husband and I are both Sept 6th. My kids are Jan 26,27,28.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:02 PM

They're usually OK if it's a close game. Something like this, we're lucky if they can tell us who's at the plate.

[ Kim ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:03 PM

Now they are going to play celebrity look alike. they are bored....

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:03 PM

Faith - Sorry for your struggles! You're not missing much more than DO & Rem in hysterics.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:03 PM

My internet crapped out on me for a second. How did Cora get on base?

[ jules ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:03 PM

LOL, William Shatner.

So true, Ione.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:05 PM

Hit to shallow right field, Mac.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:06 PM

Lowrie being Papi?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:06 PM

lone1c - Thanks.

[ EricaC ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:07 PM

That would be beautiful!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:08 PM

LOWRIE BEING PAPI! JENNY BEING PROPHETIC!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:08 PM

Lowrie!

I'm really liking this game!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:08 PM

JED!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:08 PM

JED!!!!!!!!!

Nice call, jenny!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:09 PM

Jed being LowRBI!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:09 PM

Kim, my sister and her husband share a birthday too!

Y'all, if I disappear for awhile it's because I'm about to call my ISP and give them what for. I'm supposed to be on a 5 Mb connection (and they've told me in the past that that means I should be getting at least 4 Mb speed). I've run a speed test about 10 times now and it's come up around 2 Mb each time. No wonder I'm having such a problem. The server has been slow for four days now (and I've run a zillion diagnostics on this computer and it's checked out clear), but this is ridiculous.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:09 PM

DO & Remdawg stole that from me. http://tinyurl.com/5sgk3m

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:10 PM

You totally called it, jenny.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:10 PM

that sucks ECL. I'm waiting for soxanddawgs.com and ianbethune.com domain names to propagate to the new nameserver so I can put SOX & Dawgs back to active status.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:11 PM

And I hate that I missed Jed's RBI, too.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:12 PM

Ian, I didn't know you were having a website issue until you mentioned it at the top of this thread, then I went over and read for myself. Hope you're back in action soon!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:16 PM

my hosting contract was set to expire and I found a good deal at a very reliable hosting company that my dad's company uses. my old host is telling me the cpu exceeded errors are my fault but in actuality it was there database server since the database had been fixed. it's a pain in the ass. if i didn't have advertising i could have gone to wordpress.com. i wanted to move to movable type which is what the great Texy uses here but it's a pain in the ass to transfer a wordpress blog to movable type.

however i get a free domain name to use for the softball site i do so i'm happy. i've been lost all day without doing any bloggin.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:18 PM

Papi is embracing his new cleanup hitter, and it's adorable!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:18 PM

especially when you have another classic sean casey video blog.

http://tinyurl.com/5jm9bs

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:20 PM

Ian - That video is just MADE. OF. WIN.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:21 PM

Manny Del, you can pitch to contact. We have a 10 run lead.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:22 PM

OK, that's more like it.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:22 PM

So Dice-K went out last time and pitched 8 innings of 2-BB ball? And Lester went out today and pitched 5 innings of 4-BB ball?

The world has turned itself upside down, but who cares as long as they win?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:22 PM

I saw it late last night and I wanted to post it or a link to it but i've been backing up the sox and dawgs site plus two other sites for the big move today. now it's just a matter of waiting for the domain names to propagate.

I don't have volume but did they take Lester out because of the lead.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:23 PM

He had thrown 99 pitches, Ian.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:24 PM

Oh btw, Casey's video blog is one of the most entertaining items on the web. God does the dude love wrestling!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:24 PM

Looks like Bethie is getting Hurricane Hannah this weekend and we will be getting the remnants of it up here as well.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:24 PM

jessi: The only explanation is that there's a magic necklace in the Boston dugout--Beckett must have had it last year, then gave it to Lester. And now Matsuzaka must have done a switcheroo. . . .

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:24 PM

Manny DelKarmen.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:24 PM

I find it highly amusing how much Casey loves wrestling.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:25 PM

thanks cathy. i'm watching big brother on the television and sox on the computer.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:25 PM

Good job, MDC.

Jessi - LOVE Casey's video blog. It's seriously one of the best things on the internet.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:27 PM

KOTS.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:28 PM

Are both teams resting their starters now for tomorrow's day game?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:28 PM

Fun stat of the night--with Lowrie's double, every starter in the lineup had a hit tonight!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:28 PM

jenny - Possibly so.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:29 PM

Tek!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:29 PM

Aww, sad to see Teky go.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:30 PM

Lone1c - haha it must be the magic necklace! I've always wondered why so many of our guys wear them...

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:30 PM

Ross: New New New New Guy?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:31 PM

Sorry, I zoned out for a bit there - who's in for Tek?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:32 PM

Mac: No. (If we did that, van Every would be New^4 Guy, and Ross would be New^5 Guy.)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:32 PM

Jessi - David Ross.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:32 PM

David Ross is in for Tek.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:32 PM

lone1c - Wouldn't Van Every be New Call-up Kid?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:32 PM

Thanks Mac! I'm interested to see what this guy does.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:33 PM

van every's already been here once this year. he was there for the traded guy's high five catch in baltimore

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:34 PM

Ian - Right...I forgot that he was called up before in May.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:34 PM

Mac--You're right. Ross is New^4 Guy. I thought they were talking about Ross coming up from Portland.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:38 PM

Hmm--fourth call-up for Smith. Does that mean we can call him Yo-Yo?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:39 PM

lone1c - I think Yo-Yo was Tavarez's nickname.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:40 PM

Smith's part of the PawSox-Red Sox shuttle team like Youk was in 2004.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:40 PM

Hmm Joba appears to be warming up for the Yanks. I am very split on this. On one hand, I want him to go out and give up 5 runs in an inning (for I do hate him dearly). On the other hand, I want Tampa to lose. What to think...

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:40 PM

Looks like Bethie is getting Hurricane Hannah this weekend

Yeppers. Looks like another community pool party this weekend. Oh joy.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:40 PM

Hmm--how about Pogo Smith?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:43 PM

at this point jessi we do need to "root" for the Yanks unfortunately.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:44 PM

Hurricane Hannah is supposed to brush us. I like that. And Ike is headed for us. Then there is Josephine. Gets better by the day.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:45 PM

How about he just walks the bases loaded, takes a ball off the shin that breaks his leg and scores a run, and then somebody else comes in a gets out of it?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:45 PM

Okay, what did I miss? I haven't tried to get back on mlb.com yet. Turns out it's NOT my speed. The guy thinks I may need to get a software tuneup. And he did mention the evils of Vista.

Bethie, did they revise the forecast for Hannah? I thought she was heading further east than us.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:45 PM

CASH MONEY being Papi?

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:47 PM

I wonder how Paps made out with the hurricane.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:47 PM

Jenny being scarily p-sychic!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:48 PM

jenny - You're scaring me a little.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:49 PM

PEDIE!!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:49 PM

Pedroia is simply amazing.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:49 PM

MVPedie!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:49 PM

Yeah, Pedey.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:49 PM

PEDIE!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:50 PM

I am *finally* able to watch the game, at least. Thankfully. I was feeling mighty deprived.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:51 PM

Wow -- Pedey's BA is up to .329. That IS amazing.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

it's getting ugly up in here.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

Watching Hanna track, now the cone is further west into the east coast of Florida. When you watch hurricane news you will hear my town, vero beach, or they say treasure coast. And Ike most likely will hit Wednesday, my bday. Oh great that's when Jeanne hit in 2004.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

Woot! JVE!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

I'm STILL liking this game! This is lovely.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

This is just a feel-good-game for the Sox.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

Van Every!!!

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:52 PM

Faith, from what I've seen so far, the forecast is to come straight up through the piedmont. Could change thought, never know.

And you know this game is getting weird when Cash is our new DH. WTF?

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:53 PM

or the old people coast in the winter Karen?

[ Jess, ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:53 PM

And here comes JOBA!

It's a 6-2 game, I hope the Yanks win it 6-4.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:54 PM

Hanna projected path

http://tinyurl.com/6897qm

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:55 PM

Hmm Joba throws one pitch and ends the inning - still not sure if I'm happy or annoyed.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:56 PM

we haven't had a hurricane up here since my sophomore year of high school and that was in 1987 or so.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:56 PM

(I'm late here, but is there any pitch Pedey can't hit for extra bases? That thing was a mile up and outside. He's like a smarter Vlad Guerrero.)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:57 PM

Whoever here who is in Hanna's path - I hope you guys stay safe.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:58 PM

Looks like it's projected to track just far enough east that WNC gets no additional drought relief. Bah.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:58 PM

okay it was 1985 and then we had hurricane bob in 1991

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:59 PM

I missed hurricane andrew by a week in 1991 when i went back to school

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 9:59 PM

Yikes, Ian, that's scary. I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near Andrew.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:00 PM

jenny: Pedey can hit just about anything. His hitting philosophy is: "If it's high, let it fly. If it's low, let it fly."

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:00 PM

I would gladly give you some of the drought relief we might get faith, if it would mean no more flooded back yard.

I'm beginning to think I need to start building an ark, just to be safe.

This is such a "nah nah" game. I'm kinda feeling sorry for the Orioles.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:02 PM

Hmm--the only hurricane I've been through was Gloria, way back in the early 80's. . . .

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:04 PM

Bethie, has the water receded yet? We'll gladly take it up here!

lone, I remember Gloria! I was living in upstate NY and we were on the western side of the circulation. I have a vivid memory of standing on a street corner and watching the clouds go very fast in the "wrong direction."

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:05 PM

I cannot believe Jed only has one error in the bigs this season (knock wood). Love it.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:06 PM

I also can't believe that Pedey has more RBI than Papi. I know Papi missed a month, but still.

OK, the guys yelling "Cowboy Up?" That's awesome.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:08 PM

"Cowboy Up." You've gotta love Fenway.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:08 PM

Holy cannoli -- there's a slugfest going on in the NL right now. ATL 14, FLA 13. Wheeeee, bats!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:10 PM

My internet crapped out on me again through the top of the 8th.

jenny, were they really yelling that?

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:10 PM

OK, Coco, keep having fun here!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:11 PM

Your turn, Ells!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:12 PM

Yippee, Coco is 3-5. I love it!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:12 PM

Mac- Yup. Pretty epic.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:13 PM

The water receded in 2 days, Faith. Thank goodness the river was still rushing and just swept it right out.

I can't believe they are still walking Red Sox batters. How fun!!

Me thinks their pitching SUUUUUUCCCKKKKKKSSSS. We will gladly take advantage of it though.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:14 PM

I just can hear that huge sucking sound of receding water, Bethie. Kind of fits with their pitching tonight, eh?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:16 PM

jenny - That's very epic.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:16 PM

I love that our guys never give away at-bats - not even when we're up by 12. Make that 13. ;D

Why, hello again, Pedey.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:17 PM

jenny - 14. :P

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:18 PM

Pedey is a triple shy of the cycle.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:18 PM

Infield hit! he can do it all!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:18 PM

Good grief -- SuperPedey!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:19 PM

Mac - we do have 14 runs, but I was going for the difference. Lester was kind enough to spot the O's 1. ;D

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:19 PM

Pedey.....I just can't form the words to say how awesome you are.

I still wanna put you in my pocket. :)

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:19 PM

Come on guys--let Ross get another shot at getting a hit. (Everybody in our lineup tonight should get one.)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:19 PM

I love the Smug Little Bastard. He is just AWESOME.

[ SoxPhan ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:19 PM

Dustin Pedroia is OUT OF CONTROL and I friggin' love it!!!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:20 PM

Pedey's little mugshot is up on the ESPN MLB scoreboard: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/scoreboard

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:20 PM

Bethie, that is way too funny. I still love the announcer that said he looks like a horse jockey. I like Mighty Mouse better.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:20 PM

anyone on the orioles waving the white flag yet? too bad there's no mercy rule.

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:20 PM

Karen that was Ozzie Guillen who said it.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:20 PM

jenny - Oh. I see. Haha.

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:21 PM

Ladies and gentlemen, Dustin Pedroia is now hitting .330.

:D :D :D

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:23 PM

Shame we don't get to hit anymore tonight. he he he.

Now Pedie needs a graceful, acrobatic, awe inspiring catch to end the night with.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:23 PM

Pedie is 5th in the MLB in average!

[ jenny again ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:23 PM

Oof, Bailey just bailed Jed out there. Teamwork!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:23 PM

.330? Pedie RULES.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:23 PM

I love how his BA continues to climb, and climb, and climb...

[ Ian ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:24 PM

but most importantly cathy, he's leading the AL

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:24 PM

Bailey, nice work helping out Jed there.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:25 PM

Geez Pauley is gonna owe Lowrie some drinks after this game.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:25 PM

I thought that was the case, Ian...with my slow loading pages I didn't want to open another one to see. Way to go Pedey!

[ cathy ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:26 PM

Pedie is also 1st in the AL in stolen base percentage at 94.4%

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:26 PM

Jockey still beats rat boy.

Can I say again that it blows my mind it's September already.....and we only have a month (and hopefully a little more) of baseball left???

I don't like it one bit. Makes me sad.

I was just thinking that earlier today Bethie. I really don't know what I'm gonna do w/o my games.

I switch to Pats, after Sox season ends, I am sad too. I prefer Sox.

I know, Bethie. It just flew by. Wasn't it just last week that we were sitting with our coffee at 6:00 a.m. watching Tokyo baseball?

[ Bethie ] says:

Then it will be back to waiting on spring training.

Ugh.

[ Cathy ] says:

I love September. it's where the most intense baseball is played, and football starts! And then hockey and basketball aren't far away.

Fortunately, there are enough of us here who keep in touch regularly that we can talk baseball all winter as well, but it's more fun to share the games as they happen, of course.

[ Karen ] says:

I don't like the "hockey" look to Rosss' catching gear.

[ SoxPhan ] says:

Yeah, try as I may, I'm just not a football person. Half of my family is from Pittsburgh, so things are a bit awkward at Thanksgiving dinner.

[ Ian ] says:

I go into full UConn Huskies mode along with the Patriots plus follow the offseason moves for the Red Sox.

Thank god this one is over.

[ lone1c ] says:

Please to be having more of the same from the Sox tomorrow?

[ ecl1958 ] says:

For me it's pretty much baseball or nothing, Cathy. I don't like football. I have no desire to watch hockey. I only like basketball during March Madness...so I'm outta luck, pretty much.

Great win, you guys!

[ Mac ] says:

Nice win!

[ Jessin ] says:

WIN

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:31 PM

Faith, you guys better be around to talk baseball with me, or I'm gonna go nuts!

WOO HOOO SOX WIN!!!

Btw, how bad have I got it?? I'm giving away concert tickets to see ZZ top on Friday so that I don't miss the Beckett/Milwood match up. I've already laughed at myself.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:31 PM

Unfortunately, I'll be at work tomorrow so can only peek in now and then.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:31 PM

Good game. Hopefully tomorrow will be good too. I will be here in between taking care of ac. Going to watch hurricane.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:32 PM

Oh, Bethie, that is EPIC. Missing ZZ Top for Beckett! Someone's in loooove!

And of course we'll be around to talk baseball. What else is LJ for?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:33 PM

Bethie, I was just thinking the same thing recently. I'll probably try to watch hockey once the season's over, but I know I won't love the sport as much as I love baseball.

[ SoxPhan ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:33 PM

YAY! Sox win!

...and...holding my nose as I say this...

YAY! MFY beat the Rays!

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:33 PM

It's not just Beckett.

Okay, it's mostly Beckett. But....I do miss watching Kevin pitch, and to get 2 for the price of 1??

Priceless.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:34 PM

I'm not familiar with Millwood, really. Guess I will be this Friday.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:34 PM

Same here Mac. It's gonna be a long lonely winter.

But luckily for now we still have baseball. And we want it well into October!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:35 PM

All the way THROUGH October. Heck...bring on November!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:37 PM

Bethie - *sigh* Yup. It does seem like it's gonna be a long winter. But it would be FANTASTIC if we make it into the post-season.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 2, 2008 10:40 PM

Oh we will Mac.

I have faith. :)

Night everyone!
