Hi all! So ready to watch the Sox and Beckett tonight. I watched the A's-Royals game last night and I realized how sick I am of watching the A's trying to be the worst AAAA team.
Mac, you are spot on regarding the A's. We go to see them when the Sox are in town (that is the ugliest ball park). They often start the year with talented players, but ol' Billy trades them all away. It has to be so frustrating for the players to be on what is essentially a AAAA team, feeding the entire major leagues.
I have missed watching baseball.
I moved into college on Sunday, had "first days" until Wednesday, and was somehow able to commandeer the common room's TV to watch Wednesday's game.
I'm so ready for this game :)
I personally think Stand Up To Cancer should be instead called "Fuck You Cancer" because it meshes so much better. Also I think TWIB already did their own version --
Greetings, all! Unfortunately can't stick around for the whole game as the husband and I are off to the West Coast tomorrow, but I can get a little Josh fix. :D
jules - Exactly. I enjoyed watching them early this season, despite the Haren, Swish and Kotsay trades, but once Billy dealt Harden and Blanton, I pretty much gave up on the season. (I also go to Oakland when the Sox are in town; it's the closest AL ballpark to where I am).
Also, anyone else having problems with mlb.tv? I can't seem to get the video working.
So good. All I need is Paps and I will be very happy. I was reading about Ashley Papelbon shopping at Pink Taffy Designs for the baby girl coming. Good taste.
Milton Bradley, a/k/a Board Game (Milton Bradley is the name of the company that makes games like Monopoly and Clue). Didn't know that was an inside joke (is red).
Trish - I knew that Milton Bradley is also board game company, I just didn't figure out the connection until fc explained it. Now I know that, I think I'll be calling him "Board Game" from now on.
Yeah I saw that, Liza. That really sucks for them. But it increases Pedie's chances of winning the MVP, and because I'm selfish, I don't feel too bad for him.
I must admit to a soft spot for Carlos because he looks so much like a former coworker who performed some wonderfully heroic acts after Hurricane Katrina. So I do feel badly for him and the team, but on the other hand, Liza is right about it helping Pedie...
Golly, Jessi, I wouldn't know who to root for there. The Mets are a hometown team for me, but the Phillies are very impressive. I always enjoy watching them.
Hey all.....it's been a while....we moved down to Jersey this week...it's my first non-nesn game, I miss Don and Remy right now....but Josh looks good, and hey there Mikey Doubles...good to have you back!
Well, all, I have to bow out--catching a VERY early flight tomorrow (if Hanna doesn't mess with it). May report in from San Francisco on Josh's next start.
I'm happy that was ruled a hit, cause it would suck if he had to pulled during a no-hitter.
I read a quote from him after he was asked about Lester's no-hitter. It was something like: "Me? I think I had a no-hitter going once in the second inning. That's about it."
Jessi: Kinsler is having season-ending hernia surgery.
As for Beckett, he apparently was so nervous that he was almost having kittens during Lester's no-hitter. I don't think he'd be able to survive a no-hitter of his own.
A nice outing for BecKKKKKKKett!....It's my first mlb.com experience, and while I miss Don and Remy, the Texas announcers appear to have a little man cruch on Josh!
ecl: Well, he's not old by real-life standards. In baseball terms though he's, like, 85. (Admittedly, even in knuckler years, he's maybe in his mid-50's.)
Jessi - I just saw Baltimore give up back to back to back bases loaded walks. I'm not sure what I liked seeing more - that or the back to back triples.
The three most attractive things in baseball, in my opinion: a pretty curveball, flashy defense, and triples. Back-to-back of all of the above makes each even better.
Ok so due to DD's love of the Sox, they should totally establish a drink called the Jacoco (of course with a delightful picture of Coco and Jacoby on the side of the cup).
By the way, I feel like Manny Delcarmen is never referred to as just Manny or Delcarmen. Its either Manny Delcarmen or MDC. Or maybe I just don't notice... But 11 pitches is fine with me.
ecl - I probably found the BTBTB bases loaded walks a little epic because the A's never score more than 6 runs in a game (they scored 8 runs in one inning; that almost never happens), but the BTB triples was epic as well.
lone - Ah yes. I can't believe I forgot that for a moment.
My first shot of Manny was at the Spanish/English press conference in the beginning. It takes awhile to get used to it. I don't mind it now. Also enjoy watching Lowe.
I got a picture, but its not very good, I guess he's sick right now. She said she'd look for a better one, but here's the bad one for now. http://i34.tinypic.com/206bija.jpg
Thank you for pointing out those pictures to me. Much appreciated. Also Josh Beckett can't hold a dog for shit. I loved how well behaved and photogenic Mark Loretta's dog buddy was. And I loved the Manny Del one too.
