Hi all!
EEE I'm so excited Beckett's back!!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:42 PM

Did anyone catch that analysis of Dustin's swing?
I've always wondered how he did that....
So much love for Pleats :)

[ jules ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:48 PM

Hey everyone!

TGIF!

Beckett is back! awesome...can't wait.

Go Blue Jays!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:50 PM

I am so looking forward to this. Missed Beckett so much. I was really bored last night without a game, not looking forward to off season.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:53 PM

Hi all! So ready to watch the Sox and Beckett tonight. I watched the A's-Royals game last night and I realized how sick I am of watching the A's trying to be the worst AAAA team.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:53 PM

Hey all!!

BECKETT IS BACK!!!!!! BECKETT IS BACK!!!!

Okay, I think I'm done. So excited about this game!!!

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:54 PM

I'm ready to watch Beckett. My dad's going to the record breaking Monday night game- I'm so jealous!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 7:58 PM

I am so ready to watch baseball.

[ jules ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:00 PM

Mac, you are spot on regarding the A's. We go to see them when the Sox are in town (that is the ugliest ball park). They often start the year with talented players, but ol' Billy trades them all away. It has to be so frustrating for the players to be on what is essentially a AAAA team, feeding the entire major leagues.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:02 PM

I have looked forward to a game this much since opening day. Mlb stand for cancer is on tv.

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:04 PM

I have missed watching baseball.
I moved into college on Sunday, had "first days" until Wednesday, and was somehow able to commandeer the common room's TV to watch Wednesday's game.
I'm so ready for this game :)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:04 PM

I personally think Stand Up To Cancer should be instead called "Fuck You Cancer" because it meshes so much better. Also I think TWIB already did their own version --

http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200809043420098

:) Enjoy

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:04 PM

Greetings, all! Unfortunately can't stick around for the whole game as the husband and I are off to the West Coast tomorrow, but I can get a little Josh fix. :D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:05 PM

Hey all -- and hey Bethie, I thought you were working tonight!

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:06 PM

Oh no ma'am. Like I would miss tonight's game. :)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:06 PM

jules - Exactly. I enjoyed watching them early this season, despite the Haren, Swish and Kotsay trades, but once Billy dealt Harden and Blanton, I pretty much gave up on the season. (I also go to Oakland when the Sox are in town; it's the closest AL ballpark to where I am).

Also, anyone else having problems with mlb.tv? I can't seem to get the video working.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:07 PM

lets go dusty!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:07 PM

Mac, it just came up for me.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:07 PM

That was silly. I thought he had it at first, but then he let go of the glove! YAY!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:08 PM

Oh man, that was a whoops.
Hehehehe.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:08 PM

That's it, I'm convinced: Pedey is magic. There can be no other explanation.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:08 PM

Pedie!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:09 PM

Tampa losing 4-2, so far good.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:09 PM

The Destroia is unstoppable.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:11 PM

I already miss Nesn.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:14 PM

Me too, Karen.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:14 PM

Karen, I was thinking the same thing...opponent partisan broadcasts suck.

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:14 PM

I just got up and patted my Beckett poster... GO BECKETT!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:15 PM

Josh, Yipee!!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:15 PM

Finally! Got mlb.tv working (turns out it was my internet connection). Did I miss anything significant? Besides Pedie being awesome, apparently...

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:15 PM

Having to rely on WRKO and GameDay for coverage tonight doesn't sound like such a bad thing right now. . . .

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:15 PM

HELLOOOOOOOOO JOSH

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:16 PM

Oh how I have missed seeing BecKett :)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:16 PM

BecKett!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:17 PM

BecKett

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:17 PM

Yeah Joshieee! Aww, did you see that Mikey Lowell smile?

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:17 PM

Oh Joshua Patrick. How I have missed thee.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:18 PM

Josh and Mikey. Good night.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:18 PM

It's so nice to have old friends back! (BecKett and Mikey).

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:19 PM

Absolutely LOVING seeing Josh and Mikey out there again.

I am, however, missing me some Youk. /spoiled whine

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:19 PM

Youk will most likely be back tomorrow.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:20 PM

OH HE DID NOT JUST CALL THE YANKEES A SECOND TIER CONTENDER

(you can only say that if you're a fan)

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

The Yankees are a contender?

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

becKKett!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

It's hard to keep doing my homework with BecKKett being so damned like himself again :)

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

BecKKett!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

Wow, not often you see the number one and two picks in a draft facing each other.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

BecKKett

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

NICE first inning, Joshie!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:21 PM

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:22 PM

My favorite Red Sox Nation commercial. aaahhh

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:22 PM

So good. All I need is Paps and I will be very happy. I was reading about Ashley Papelbon shopping at Pink Taffy Designs for the baby girl coming. Good taste.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:23 PM

fc; The Yankees are contenders in the same sense that Casey is a contender in a 100-m dash contest.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:23 PM

Feels good to have Beckett back. Lets go Jason BAY!

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:24 PM

I miss Casey, he's my favorite. The photo of his little bloop is the background of my computer :)

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:25 PM

At least the Yankees are doing better than the Rangers, which is why I was like WTF when the announcers came out with that.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:25 PM

They're having a baby girl? I bet she will be adorable.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:25 PM

HELLOOOO MIKEY!

[ Mary ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.

Direct quote from me.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

MIKEY!!! So glad to see him back.

[ starr4 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

Yea, Mikey!!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

Mikey!! So awesome.

[ cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

Welcome back, Mikey Lowell!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

MIKEY!!!!!!

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

Welcome back Mike

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:26 PM

Well, that's one way to make a statement in your first at-bat off the DL!!!!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:27 PM

Must be a delay on MLB TV. Crap.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:27 PM

I could heat my home all winter with the radiant energy of one Mike Lowell smile.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:27 PM

So JD will be taking live pitching from Aardsma. Sounds like some kind of joke.

[ jules ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:28 PM

Just back from picking up the kidlet from volleyball practice. Oh, we're up by one and the Jays are up by 2. So far so good.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:28 PM

fc: David who?

(Just kidding.)

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:32 PM

BOARD GAME ALERT

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:33 PM

Trish: Huh??

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:33 PM

lone: Milton Bradley.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:34 PM

Trish...'Splain, please?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:34 PM

Trish - Wha??

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:34 PM

Milton Bradley, a/k/a Board Game (Milton Bradley is the name of the company that makes games like Monopoly and Clue). Didn't know that was an inside joke (is red).

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:34 PM

OH!!!

And he flied out to a breakfast cereal. Imagine that.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:34 PM

Wow, it took me a second but you guys are making me feel smart.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:34 PM

Thanks, fc.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:35 PM

Trish, I *did* know about Bradley, come to think of it. Am just so fried this evening that I didn't make the connection.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:36 PM

ecl - hahaha!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:36 PM

A breakfast cereal who had a lucky at-bat the other day against an ice cream flavor.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:36 PM

I get it now. Hah, that's cute. Dinner time, I'll be back soon ;)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:36 PM

fc -- you're right! And that ice cream flavor is his real name, poor guy!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:37 PM

D'oh! (I should have thought about who just got sent back to the dugout.)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:37 PM

Trish - I knew that Milton Bradley is also board game company, I just didn't figure out the connection until fc explained it. Now I know that, I think I'll be calling him "Board Game" from now on.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:37 PM

Another nice inning, Josh!

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:38 PM

LOL at Josh trying to avoid the foul line.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:39 PM

Board Game is crazy, though.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:39 PM

How about this:
Hey Milton Bradley - Sorry!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:40 PM

fc - Brilliant.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:40 PM

fc--WIN!!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:40 PM

Continuing the trend: if he's not careful when running, he could be playing Operation.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:41 PM

Hey guys! Just got back - how's Josh looking tonight? And Mikey?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:42 PM

Jessi - Josh is looking pretty good tonight. And Mikey hit a homer in his first at-bat.

[ cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:43 PM

Josh looks good, and he's pitching well, too.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:44 PM

Hey everyone. Anyone else see this?

(D:)

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:44 PM

Thanks! Can't believe I missed Mikey's HR. Pretty damn good way to start off.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:44 PM

WRKO: Talk of Pedroia as MVP being heard at other parks, too.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:46 PM

This game is moving too fast.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:47 PM

Liza, yeah it's been all over espn.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:47 PM

See? Don't hit bats. Throw helmets, people. And swear.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:47 PM

Liza, they mentioned it earlier on the mlb.tv broadcast. Not a terribly bright move on Quentin's part.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:48 PM

Never talk about the fast pace of a game, I will blame you if this goes to extra innings! ;)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:48 PM

Yeah I saw that, Liza. That really sucks for them. But it increases Pedie's chances of winning the MVP, and because I'm selfish, I don't feel too bad for him.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:49 PM

BecKKKett.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:49 PM

Another K for Beckett.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:50 PM

I didn't get home until just now, so I didn't see it until just now. Ugh. I love Carlos--but that was not, as Ecl pointed out, a smart move.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:50 PM

BecKKKett

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:51 PM

BecKKKKett

[ cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:51 PM

BecKKKKett!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:51 PM

BecKKKKett tonight? Is filthy.

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:51 PM

BecKKKKett

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:51 PM

BecKKKKet - I have missed you dearly.

(You too Mikey!)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:53 PM

I must admit to a soft spot for Carlos because he looks so much like a former coworker who performed some wonderfully heroic acts after Hurricane Katrina. So I do feel badly for him and the team, but on the other hand, Liza is right about it helping Pedie...

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:53 PM

I'm also watching the Phillies/Mets game - who do you guys root for?

Phillies are probably my top NL team (though I don't know much about the NL except for the "big" players). Cannot stand the Mets, especially Reyes.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:54 PM

Question--why is Pedey batting 2nd instead of cleanup?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:54 PM

Aflac - Tito!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:55 PM

Nice 1st-inning take on Josh's performance at Extra Bases.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:55 PM

Golly, Jessi, I wouldn't know who to root for there. The Mets are a hometown team for me, but the Phillies are very impressive. I always enjoy watching them.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:55 PM

Lone1c - I read a quote from him that he isn't fond of hitting fourth (though his numbers say otherwise).

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:56 PM

Jessi - I root for the Mets, but the Giants are my top NL team. I really have no idea why I root for the Mets, though.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:56 PM

Jessi: I know he's not fond of batting cleanup--but I would think he'd just deal with it and be awesome. (Not that he's not awesome batting 2nd.)

And now what's this--Kotsay has a SINGLE?

Nope, just an E4.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:56 PM

LOLRangers

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:56 PM

Hm I think people consider me in NY territory, but I just cannot stand any of their teams. And also, a guy from my high school got drafted for them.

And that's why you run out groundballs (thanks new NEW guy).

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:57 PM

I don't really have an NL team I root for, I just have specific players I root for.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:57 PM

New Guy!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:57 PM

Go, Beaker!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:57 PM

Jessi, are you telling us that Tito is in a commercial with a duck? Because that would be TV magic.

Hey look, the new guy just hit another double.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:58 PM

Jessi: Kotsay is new new NEW guy, not new new guy (that's Byrd).

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:58 PM

Haha know fc, but that would be epic. I'm watching mlbtv and there was an Aflac trivia question.

What three managers are undefeated in the World Series?

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:58 PM

Tampa Bay is creeping up on Toronto. It's on tv here. 4-3

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:59 PM

**No (not know haha)

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:59 PM

MIKEY!!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 8:59 PM

MIKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:00 PM

Woohoo!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:00 PM

Mikey! :::jumps up and down:::

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:00 PM

MIKEY

Really, you've been pretty awesome.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:00 PM

Mikey being awesome!!

What is in the water at Fenway?

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:01 PM

It's the Dirty Water.

[ Kristin ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:01 PM

Hey all.....it's been a while....we moved down to Jersey this week...it's my first non-nesn game, I miss Don and Remy right now....but Josh looks good, and hey there Mikey Doubles...good to have you back!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:03 PM

Tek!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:03 PM

Okay, c'mon baseball boyfriend...

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:03 PM

Loaded for Crisp? Hmm ...

[ Trish ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:04 PM

Well, all, I have to bow out--catching a VERY early flight tomorrow (if Hanna doesn't mess with it). May report in from San Francisco on Josh's next start.

Oh yeah--GO YANKEES!!! ;)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:04 PM

Tek finding his bat has been awesome.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:04 PM

Let's go Coco!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:04 PM

Bases loaded for Coco **snicker**

(I kid because I love)

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:04 PM

The Sox likey the doubles. The only team that likey more the doubles? Texas.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:05 PM

HAHA that was silly too :)

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:05 PM

COCOCOCOCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:05 PM

COCO!!!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

So so good.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

Coco!!!

LOLRangers Defense

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

COCO!!!!

WOOT for the clutch hitting!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

Somebody really lucked out on that at-bat...

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

Wow, he got pretty lucky there.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

Yeah, I guess the joke was on them.

[ starr4 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:06 PM

Rangers are playing some ugly baseball.

Do you think they were jinxed by the worst fielding percentage in the AL pronouncement at the game start?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:09 PM

starr4: Well, that didn't help matters any. But they know they're screwed, and the Kinsler news probably didn't help, either.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:10 PM

LOL to Remy about a fight in the stands: "It's kind of early in the game. It's the 4th inning, you don't even have a chance to get toasted yet"

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:11 PM

Piney - Hahahaha! That's hilarous.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:11 PM

Ok, never noticed it until Trish mentioned it. What is with Josh skipping over the foul line? Superstitious?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:11 PM

Ah, silly Remy: Assuming the fans aren't already coming in half-toasted to start.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:11 PM

TITO!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:13 PM

Is that an error or a hit?

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:13 PM

Error, I think. Jed's first at short if that's the ruling.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:13 PM

Mac: Scored as a hit.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:14 PM

Okay, never mind, then.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:14 PM

I love a double play that erases a previous mistake.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:15 PM

Ah, Jedders makes up for the bad throw with a DP to Pleats and Kotsay.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:15 PM

Thanks, lone.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:15 PM

I know he's not a Sox, but I do like Josh Hamilton.
Toronto ahead 6-3 now in the 8th.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:16 PM

I'm happy that was ruled a hit, cause it would suck if he had to pulled during a no-hitter.

I read a quote from him after he was asked about Lester's no-hitter. It was something like: "Me? I think I had a no-hitter going once in the second inning. That's about it."

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:19 PM

Josh is near the end of his 50 -60 allotted pitches.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:19 PM

Karen - I like Josh Hamilton, too. He and Ian Kinsler are probably my favorite non-Sox/A's players.

Jessi - I am kinda happy it was ruled as a hit, as well, and for the same reason.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:19 PM

I'm sorry but what was the Kinsler news you were talking about?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:20 PM

Season ending surgery, Jessi.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:21 PM

Jessi - Kinsler's having season-ending surgery on a sports hernia.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:21 PM

Oh wow, that really sucks for him. I feel for the guy.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:21 PM

Jessi: Kinsler is having season-ending hernia surgery.

As for Beckett, he apparently was so nervous that he was almost having kittens during Lester's no-hitter. I don't think he'd be able to survive a no-hitter of his own.

"Zorba the Greek" theme? Really?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:24 PM

Nice night for BecKKKKKett.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:24 PM

BecKKKKKet!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:24 PM

BecKKKKKett!!!!!!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:24 PM

BecKKKKKett

[ starr4 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:25 PM

I heart Josh Hamilton!!!

When he and Beckett, my other BBF, face each other, batter to pitcher, I swoon, figuratively, of course.

[ Kristin ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:26 PM

Do we think Josh will be back out in the 5th?

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:27 PM

Aww that is so sweet.

For NESN viewers, a Ranger fan just proposed to his girlfriend.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:28 PM

Kristin - I don't think he will. He's already thrown 63 pitches.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:28 PM

Kristin: With 63 pitches already, probably not.

[ Kristin ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:30 PM

It would be good to see hime get the win...but I know his health is more important...still wanting to see more Josh!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:30 PM

Josh is back?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:31 PM

He must be feeling really good...

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:31 PM

This is a good sign for Beckett, but I do not want him in the 6th.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:33 PM

Goes to show ya what I know. I guess they weren't ready for MDC to come out yet.

Jessi: agreed.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:33 PM

MDC is up in the pen, so I don't think we'll see Josh past the 5th.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:33 PM

BLUE JAYS WIN!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:34 PM

The Rays just lost.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:34 PM

Jessi - Yay!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:34 PM

Toronto beat Tampa.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:35 PM

OK. I so did NOT need to know that Wakey uses Just for Men.

And woot--TB 4, Toronto 6!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:35 PM

That was a tight spot for the Jays there. 6-4, 9th inning, a man on 2B and 3B, 2 out, 3-2 count. Thankfully the guy struck out.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:36 PM

I was sitting there waiting to post about the Jays winning, but it did take awhile for TB to finally go down. :::whew:::

lone, you haven't heard the Wakey ad before?

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:37 PM

ecl: No, I haven't. I didn't know there was an ad beyond the one-liner the WRKO announcers just delivered. . . .

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:38 PM

That's what keeps him in the game, you know.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:38 PM

That's the one, lone, "the hair color that Tim Wakefield uses," or something like that. Geez, he's not THAT old!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:38 PM

BecKKKKKKKett!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:38 PM

BecKKKKKKKett

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:39 PM

Way to go, Josh!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:39 PM

BecKKKKKKKett!!!!!!!!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:39 PM

My god BecKKKKKKKet, that was amazing. Best we could've hoped for.

7 Ks in 5 innings (against one of the best offensive teams). Hell yes.

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:39 PM

Have I mentioned yet that I'm glad Josh is back? Good job, commander.

Now dearest red sox bullpen. If you implode, I'm kicking all of your asses.

Just saying. No pressure.

[ Kristin ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:40 PM

A nice outing for BecKKKKKKKett!....It's my first mlb.com experience, and while I miss Don and Remy, the Texas announcers appear to have a little man cruch on Josh!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:40 PM

Did you see that tomorrow will be Wakey's 500th game he pitches?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:40 PM

Very nice outing for Beckett tonight.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:40 PM

ecl: Well, he's not old by real-life standards. In baseball terms though he's, like, 85. (Admittedly, even in knuckler years, he's maybe in his mid-50's.)

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:41 PM

On NESN a mom in the stands was performing an autopsy on her daughter's cotton candy.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:42 PM

Yeah, I know, lone. But being in one's 40s does not necessarily translate to needing to color one's hair, that's all!

[ Kristin ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:42 PM

Oh and yay for the Rays loosing....my comments are delayed I know...I'm watching the game on the computer, I'm learning how to multitask

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:43 PM

Geez, another hit for Tek.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:44 PM

Tek!

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:44 PM

WOAH Crisp...

[ starr4 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:44 PM

Coco! Tek! Fun!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:44 PM

Coco!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:44 PM

Are you kidding me? A TRIPLE???

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Woohoo!!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

COCOCOCOCOCOCOCO!!!!!!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Shooting fish in a barrel.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Coco! Again!

I love when the bottom third of the lineup gets hits.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Jacoby!!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

COCO!!!

JACOBY!!!

ecl: Yeah, but knowing the guys in the clubhouse, he probably gets teased less about dyeing his hair than he would if he let it go gray.

[ Jacqueline ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

HUZZAH!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

JACOBY!

[ Bethie ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Coco and Jacoby tag team are at it again!

WOO HOOOOO

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

Jacoco fun!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:45 PM

JACOBY!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:46 PM

Jacoco Crispbury with back to back triples. :D

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:46 PM

Back to back TRIPLES! That's what I love to see!

I don't think I've ever seen that. That is a lot rarer than back to back HRs (I think).

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:46 PM

Wonder if Ellsbury was on the track team? I know he played Basketball, which explains the jumping catches.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:47 PM

I'd love to see the stats about back to back triples (cough cough cough) Jacoco- sounds like something from Dunkin Donuts.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:47 PM

Well, that inning put a goofy smile on my face.

So lone, do you think Wakey is grayer than Mikey?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:48 PM

Karen - I once read he lettered in five sports in high school - basketball, baseball, football, soccer and track.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:48 PM

Karen, apparently Jacoby used to chase deer for fun. And once he actually outran one.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:49 PM

Jessi - I just saw Baltimore give up back to back to back bases loaded walks. I'm not sure what I liked seeing more - that or the back to back triples.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:49 PM

Jessi: Yes, it's rarer than back-to-back HR's, just because it's so hard to hit a triple. (Sox before tonight: 150 HR's, 25 triples.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:50 PM

Mac, I believe I've seen BTBTB bases loaded walks before, but never BTB triples. That was epic.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:50 PM

Ecl, way too funny. I would like video of that.
Sonic, I'm jealous.

[ Liza ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:50 PM

JOCO!

The three most attractive things in baseball, in my opinion: a pretty curveball, flashy defense, and triples. Back-to-back of all of the above makes each even better.

Therefore, back-to-back Joco triples? YESPLZ.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:51 PM

Wouldn't it be great to actually see video of it? Oh well!

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:53 PM

Ok so due to DD's love of the Sox, they should totally establish a drink called the Jacoco (of course with a delightful picture of Coco and Jacoby on the side of the cup).

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:53 PM

Apparently Jacoby and his friend did take pictures with the deer, but Jacoby isn't sure where they are anymore.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:53 PM

Nice inning for MDC

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:54 PM

Oh and I am still waiting for the inevitable inside the park HR from Jacoby.

Nice inning MDC.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:54 PM

By the way, I feel like Manny Delcarmen is never referred to as just Manny or Delcarmen. Its either Manny Delcarmen or MDC. Or maybe I just don't notice... But 11 pitches is fine with me.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:54 PM

ecl: Yes you have seen BTBTB bases loaded walks--the Rox handed us three runs that way in Game 1 of last year's WS.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:55 PM

I would SO love to have one of those hypothetical Jacoco cups, Jessi!

fc, I didn't know that about the deer pictures. That's hilarious.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:55 PM

Know what would be awesome? Coco Crisp on a Wheaties box.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:55 PM

In that case, there is definitely video of it.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:56 PM

ecl - I probably found the BTBTB bases loaded walks a little epic because the A's never score more than 6 runs in a game (they scored 8 runs in one inning; that almost never happens), but the BTB triples was epic as well.

lone - Ah yes. I can't believe I forgot that for a moment.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:56 PM

Yes, that's the game I was thinking of, lone. I couldn't remember exactly which game but knew I had seen it.

fc, I love that idea. Exactly where he belongs!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:58 PM

fc - That would be quite epic.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 9:58 PM

Mac - BOTH occasions were epic. I loved the BTBTB bases loaded walks. I think I was screaming and jumping up and down when that happened.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:00 PM

There's my Snowflake!

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:00 PM

I really, really, really miss NESN.

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:00 PM

Snowflake?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:01 PM

:::cracks up at fc:::

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:02 PM

fc, your Snowflake got on base!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:02 PM

I miss Nesn too. These people are dull. Dodger game starting soon on tv.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:03 PM

I thought Snowflake was JD.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:03 PM

One of my friends from Boston has a dog that looks just like Mikey Lowell. I'll have to find a picture to show you all.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:03 PM

ANOTHER nickname for Jason "Beaker"/"Sunflower of Perfection"/"Narcissistic Manchild" Bay? Gaah!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:03 PM

Ooh, Derek Lowe.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:03 PM

Oh that's right, Karen...the Dodgers are probably on here as well. I'm going to bed early. Maybe that can lull me to sleep.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:04 PM

Avery, now THAT I've gotta see. The dog looks like Mikey?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:05 PM

ecl - I remember when that happened, I was saying to my brother, "Dude, the Rockies are made of fail!"

lone - I think at this point, someone's gotta come up with a list of nicknames.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:06 PM

Avery - A dog that looks like Mikey? I gotta see that.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:07 PM

ecl, you're slightly off. That was Sunflower. On NESN we got a long shot of Snowflake with a discussion of his injury.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:08 PM

Sunflower, Snowflake...kind of hard to keep them all straight, fc! :::grins:::

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:09 PM

So I'm now watching the Dodger/Diamondback game. Believe it or not, my first time watching Manny in blue (live). It's quite a shocking image.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:09 PM

Dogs that look like their Sox pals. (Click on Portfolios->Red Sox Calendar.)

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:10 PM

My first shot of Manny was at the Spanish/English press conference in the beginning. It takes awhile to get used to it. I don't mind it now. Also enjoy watching Lowe.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:10 PM

Really, Jessi? You hadn't taken a peek at Manny in blue prior to now?

For some reason it didn't take me long to get used to it.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:11 PM

I'll go call her to send me a picture. I swear, he does.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:12 PM

First time I saw Manny in Dodger blue was during that press conference as well. I'm still not used to it.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:14 PM

Yea ecl, I was not too fond of Manny, the manner of his departure, and the insane hitting-streak he went on.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:14 PM

I got a picture, but its not very good, I guess he's sick right now. She said she'd look for a better one, but here's the bad one for now.
http://i34.tinypic.com/206bija.jpg

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:15 PM

Avery - he does look like Mikey, even lying down!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:15 PM

fc, that Red Sox Calendar link is adorable...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:17 PM

Avery, yep, salt-and-pepper coloring and all!

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

Avery - Yup. He does look like Mikey!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

Coco is on a bit of an insane hitting streak himself!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

Three hits for Coco? Did he still a necklace from Pedey or something?

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

Aww, they are so cute. Beckett and Varitek with dogs made my day.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

I respectfully submit that that dog, lovely as he is, does not do Mikey justice.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

Is Crisp trying to get the job back from Ells stole from him last year?

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:19 PM

Gabe avec dog is too adorable!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:20 PM

Oh yeah--about that calendar: When was that taken? It's got Kappy and Pedroia, and I didn't think they were on the team at the same time.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:20 PM

My previous comment was for Avery.
Re that calendar: I swear most of those dogs have the same expressions as their human pals in the pictures.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:20 PM

fc, I agree. Mikey is... well wasn't he on the hottest men of the year list in People magazine? Its bed time for me- lets go sox!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:21 PM

My previous comment was for Avery.
Re the calendar: I swear the dogs have the same expressions as their human pals in the pictures.

[ Avery ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:21 PM

Ps... pedroia WOULD have two dogs with him.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:22 PM

Sorry for the double post - it didn't appear the first time.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:22 PM

Haha horrible baserunning by Manny. Reaches first on a throwing error, then made a wide turn to 2B, tried to get back to 1B and got tagged out.

So that was my Manny debut in blue.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:23 PM

Aw, Papi isn't happy.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:23 PM

Awww, poor Papi! :::frowns:::

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:23 PM

Is the Rangers' announcer sucking on a losenge?

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:24 PM

lone - In the picture with Don and the dog, the scoreboard says it's September 8, 2006.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:25 PM

Yup, 2006: Beardless Youk, Gabe, Baby Pedey...

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:26 PM

Cathy, I think so, or eating some ice cream.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:27 PM

Right, I lost track of Kappy's timeline: he managed for Greenville last year, not two years ago.

That makes sense. And those are definitely great pics.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:29 PM

Thank you for pointing out those pictures to me. Much appreciated. Also Josh Beckett can't hold a dog for shit. I loved how well behaved and photogenic Mark Loretta's dog buddy was. And I loved the Manny Del one too.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:29 PM

And on NESN we were just treated to a shot of Josh resting his head on the railing of the dugout looking positively angelic.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:32 PM

What do we think is up with Masterson?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:32 PM

fc, awww, he's probably really happy with the way things have gone tonight. Content and at peace.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:32 PM

C'mon, Justin! Get the out!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:33 PM

Piney, you're right, the one of MDC was a really nice one.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:34 PM

Strikes, Justin, strikes.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:35 PM

Justin...execute the pitches!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:35 PM

Thank you, Justin.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:36 PM

Ok one inning, no hits, no runs. I'll take it.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:36 PM

ecl, he did look content but I couldn't bring myself to use the word. A content Josh? Does not compute.

Nice defense getting Justin out of a jam.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:39 PM

fc: A sated Josh Beckett, perhaps?

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:42 PM

MIKEY!

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:42 PM

lone, I love it: sated, after slaughtering and consuming his prey.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:42 PM

Dr. Doubles!!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:42 PM

Mikey is on fire tonight!

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:43 PM

I miss Nesn. These people don't show shots of Sox.

[ Jessi ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:43 PM

MIKEY - 4 RBI first game back, not bad at all.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:43 PM

Mikey is having himself quite a night.

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:44 PM

Stands: empty, empty,Sox shirt, Sox shirt, Sox shirt, empty, empty, empty, Sox...

[ fc ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:45 PM

It was so nice of Texas to throw batting practice for us.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:46 PM

fc: Red Sox batters feast on tasty Texas pitching.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:47 PM

fc - Don't the Rangers always throw BP for us?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:50 PM

Awww, I was hoping Coco would add to his RBI total there...but I'll take an 8-0 lead!

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:52 PM

Okie-Dokie time. . . .

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:58 PM

:: watches tumbleweed blow past in the thread ::

[ Karen ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:58 PM

Okie, makes me nervous.

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:59 PM

Double play, please.

[ lone1c ] says:
on September 5, 2008 10:59 PM

Not a double play. but we'll take a K.

[ Cathy ] says:
on September 5, 2008 11:00 PM

Come on, Oki!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on September 5, 2008 11:00 PM

lone...you say tumbleweeds, I say crickets. :::giggles:::

[ Mac ] says:
on September 5, 2008 11:00 PM

Another K would be good right now.

[ Karen ] says:

C'mon, Oki! Get the out!

Please.

Damn, a shut-out would've been very nice.

So much for the shutout. :::sigh:::

Okajima. I already have a headache. You're not helping.

[ Liza ] says:

Thank you--much better.

[ Jessi ] says:

Win!

Amusing--I can't tell whether the crowd is trying to say "Let's Go, Rangers" or "Let's go, RED SOX."

Yes!

2.5 Back!!!

[ Mac ] says:

Not a shutout, but a win is a win. Even better because the Rays lost today.

[ Karen ] says:

Finally. Good. See you all tomorrow night. Like the 8:05pm start. I don't have to fly home from church as usual.

[ Jessi ] says:

Only 2.5 games back from the Rays!

[ fc ] says:

Wow, a game so calm, kitty sat with me through most of it. (I usually scare her away at some point.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:

lone, yes, there's that extra little nice thing, the 2.5 back thing. I love it!

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Awww, fc, give kitty a head scratch for me. I love the little critters and can't be around them because I'm allergic.

[ fc ] says:

A teeny, tiny 2.5 games - nice.
Now Josh, put that arm on ice.

And head scratch delivered, ecl. purrr
